Teething Problems (Open RP)

Mugholia

((I'm new to this place, so I figured what's a better way to learn about how everyone RPs here than to get people to RP with me. So please, if you feel the inclination to, jump in! I'll much appreciate it.))

The Sultanate of Mugholia had now been ruling with an iron fist for a year without any mishaps, but this was not to last. Despite the oppressive and intrusive military police that Narjiki ran, crime was still an occurance. It seemed that the disgruntled populace, unhappy with their oppressive rulers, are expressing their distaste for it through crime. Not only did this crime include theft, violence and vandalism, but political statements too. As the year went by, the latter became more and more prominent. Scrawled in Arabic across countless building walls in large letters proclaimed:

YAMAPUTISAN HARNASIRIDIYA ENSLAVES US ALL

These guerilla political attacks were all that could be made, as riots were put down mercilessly. Sultan Yama knew that something had to be done, however, or he would find a revolution on his hands. He ordered Narjiki to increase the grip of the Council for Law, Order & Defense upon the people. A curfew was set and both public and private congregations of the lower classes were abolished. This was the last push that sent the stressed public over the edge. On the eve of Christmas a revolution erupted in the city of Harjim and quickly spread across the nation. By dusk of Christmas day only three of the thirteen Mugholian cities were not cast into chaos. Sultan Yama took quick and decisive action, rallying an army of loyalists he prepared to march on the city that began the revolution, Harjim.

Meanwhile, the rebels issued their demands to the Sultan:

1. A maximum work day of 10 hours be introduced.
2. Minimum wage of 4 lamprins an hour.
3. Public access to education.
4. Access to free hospitals.
5. Subsidies for the poor.

The Sultan immediately rejected these demands and set out to march on the city. He would stamp out this rebellion if it was the last thing he did.

((Great idea Jerusalem. :)))

Moments before Sultan Yama set out his sister Narjiki approached with urgent news;

"Brother, my men have uncovered the leaders of this filthy slur against your good name. They are but three;

Harimi Pultok is the ring leader, the one who began the rebellion in Harjim. He is a disaffected arms manufacturer.

Mahummud Al'Sapayrista is fueling the fires from the city of Kismet. This man and his family should be dealt with most harshly, my lord, for they are lesser nobles rising against your authority, hoping to sieze power for themselves.

Finally, Yarissa Shi'hamin is leading the rebels from Barjet. She is a mine worker of no repute."

Sultan Yama turned, replied with an irritated nod, then continued onwards to lead his armies towards the rebels.

Rouge Jiggady
11-11-2004, 07:53
The group of four were technically Rouge Jiggady citizens, though they wore that distinction with little pride or care. Having to live there was just a bump in the road to them until they could return home and ply their old trade. They had long since left RJ for other 'waters' needing to get out of the region in order to clear their heads so that they could regroup, reorganize and return to rebuild the anti Jiggady coallition.

Nathaniel Bly, Francis DuBios, Abdulkareem Hakef, and Rasha Hakef; all ordered another round of coffee as they continued their argument. While they all supported the government of Rouge Jiggady, they didnt feel that it was doing enough to try and take its rightfull control over the nation of Jiggady. They all supported Chief of State Xander with their lives but they quickly realized that they would have to take things into their own hands if they would ever be able to return home to Jiggady. This was nothing new to any of them, they all were founding members of the AJC and they had all been at Caira during the massacre by the Jiggadyn army. Now turning over the government wasnt their only goal; revenge for the friends they had lost and returning home was the key.

Home for the past few years had been an isolated, in their opinion, nation far from the waters of the FKC; and while they really didnt like living here it was far from anywhere that the JDA would have looked for them. Mugholia was supposed to only be a stopover for them, however they settled here to save on the expenses of constantly traveling from country to country, and work needed to be done here. Rasha had quickly befriended many of the local workers, setting up jobs for them in the corners of the nation; seperate from each other as to not draw suspicion. They were able to get together and have little biweekly conferences on their plans for getting home, and also for what they were getting involved in here.

Abdulkareem and Francis had both gotten jobs at arms plants in Harjim, and Nathaniel and Rasha got work in a mining organization. Their work to get back home had become sidetracked when they began to see the discord amongst the population of the nation living under a tyrantical ruler, and they knew that they must get to work here to help 'liberate' the people. ...

ooc: Tired, more tomorrow... These are minor characters that I created awhile back and hadnt used in awhile. The setting suits what I had done with them.. Dissenters from Jiggady who organized violent rebellions against the ruler of Jiggady ending up in the need to flee the nation.

OOC: This looks like exactly the sort of thing that the Emperor would be interested in. Has the Sultan made any sort of international announcement about the situation? If not, how likely is it that Ghout might find out about it anyway?

IC (If some such announcement was made):

Transmission from Ghout to Mugholia
Sultan Yama of Mugholia:
I hear you are having a bit of trouble with rebels challenging your rule. It is always alarming to hear about such scum acting against the rightful leader of a nation, especially one as respectable as yours. If you wish, I will send part of the Glorious Army to assist you in your valiant struggle to preserve your noble rule. Give the word, and my forces shall move that very day.
Good luck to you,
-Charjiil, Emperor of Ghout

IC:

Once Sultan Yama had left, Narjiki immediately set about dealing with her duties. She did not have to be told, she knew that firstly she had to request aid from any sympathetic ears, and secondly to create a public face for the rest of the world to view Mugholia's actions by. The former was the far less complicated task, and so she sent off telegrams to the other conservative, extreme right wing, imperialist governments, pleading Mugholia's case of having to deal with a severe treachery that threatened to rob the Harnasiridiya family of its right to rule. Once done, she set about the second task. This one took time, money and a little bit of tact. She began rounding up the government owned media group and set to work.

----------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile on the battlefront...
----------------------------------------------------------------

Sultan Yama led his army straight into Harjim with monumentous speed. He was an avid historian, and as such always seeked to use the greatest tactics of the greatest minds; today he chose Julius Caesar's tactic: the deathly surprise of speed. Taking to with the armoured warfare unit, the Sultan and his four divisions of tanks arrived hours before the main army. They engaged the peasant rabble, which outnumbered them vastly, with great success. The rebels had not planned for such a swift response, and they did not have time to man the heavy weaponry which could repel the armoured vehicles. The rebels were routed and they scattered to the four corners of the city. The Sultan ordered his men to only kill when neccessary, but otherwise to simply chase or capture the rebels.

When the rest of the army arrived they marched through the city capturing who they could. Casualties on both sides were minimal, but the core of the rebel forces managed to flee in the time between Sultan Yama's arrival and the infantry's arrival. Of course, the Sultan had expected this, and he continued on without skipping a beat. Before moving to the next city, Harjim had to be dealt with. He ordered the troops to enforce a military lock down and set up a base of operations in the centre of the city. As he did, he received a transmission from his sister with the response sent to him by the Emperor of Ghout. A smug smile crept upon Sultan Yama's face, if only for an instant, then dissapeared as he dictated his reply to an officer:

Transmission from Mugholia to Ghout:

Emperor Charjiil of Ghout,

I am most pleased that you have taken an interest in my unfortunate situation. It is an insult to all legitimate rulers, as you and I. As to your offer of aid, I would most gratefully accept an attachment to aid my own army. Nothing overly large shall be necessary, I shall be able to handle the situation. If you wish to send an emissary as a go between with the troops I shall provide gracious hospitality.

Again, I most sincerely thank you for your kind offer.

Graciously yours,
Sultan Yamaputisan Harnasiridiya

Back in Delidia...
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Narjiki had just finished the composition of a global news broadcast and ordered it to air immediately. It took eight hours to produce; it was not easy to stage a fake bombing. The segment went as follows:

On Christmas Night, when all should be celebrating and sharing presents, Mugholia is struck by infamous terrorists.

<Cut to scene of the bombing.>

Earlier this evening a radical group, known only as the Mugholian Communist Organisation, bombed a factory full of innocent workers. The arms factory in Harjim contained over 500 personnel, so far the casualties stand at 387 dead, 64 injured and over 50 unaccounted for.

<Cut to overflowing hospital.>

Following this tragic event, leaders of the terrorist group divided and travelled to ten Mugholian cities, inciting riots and violence.

<Cut to scenes of violent protest.>

The terrorists have issued demands to the Mugholian government, stating that if they do not stand down, hand over the Harnasiridiya family, and allow the people to form a Communist government, there will be no cease to the riots and more people will be harmed.

Inside the nation, walking calmly through streets beset by unconcealed anger and hatred, Abel-182 watched with interest. It was a simple matter to avoid arrest by the military, when a vehicle or troops came past he simply slid into an alley, or pretended to be one of the terrified downtrodden who had not taken part in the riot. Either way, the man whose passport proclaimed him "Matthew Anyn" was here for a simple reason. Religion.

Abel had been sent by the usual discreet means used by the Offico Spiritus Sancti to examine this troubled nation and come to a conclusion. If their religion was deemed appropriate, his masters would intervene. If it was deemed too heretical for the Hierarchy, he would be given further instructions.

[[OOC: What religion is your nation? Abel's been snooping around trying to find out the religious system and how fervant people are about it. Look forward to the RP.

Having a lot of fun so far. :)

Isam: Given its location, in between real world India and China, the people would have a mix of Hindi, Buddhist, Taoist, Christian and Muslim beliefs. However, the state religion is banned all together, and there is persecution against religious practices. So there's no temples and no organised worship, but it doesn't stop everyone; the police force isn't quite as effective as Sultan Yama would like. ;)

[[OOC: thanks]]

Abel spent some time speaking with superiors, then headed deeper into the city.

He mused on his orders, based upon what he had discovered. As usual, he agreed with the gameplan of the Hierarchy. A nation where religion was banned...it was hard for Abel to even conceive how a government could do such a thing to its people - in Isam, religion permeated every aspect of life.

So now he was working his way through dingy alleys and trawling for information in bars. He was looking one person in particular. The head of what little Christian faith existed in this country.

Scar: The more opposition, the better! Can't make a newly formed dictatorship easy now, can we? :D

Isam: The preacher has no official training, he is just the most devout and knowledgeable in the area. The Christian population would be pretty small, so everyone here is probably a large portion of the community in Harjim, and the preacher would be the closest thing to a leader.

IC:

With the city of Harjim in such chaos, the daily order was disrupted. One of the bars that Abel stumbled into happened to have somewhat of a sermon occuring. Some people clutched at makeshift crosses that they had seemingly just made from whatever material they could find, and a preacher stood atop the bar, reading from an Arabic bible. When Abel entered, the entire group jumped and shrieked, quickly stashing whatever religious related materials that they held. When they realised it was not an army officer, they relaxed and the preacher continued his sermon. They finished it rapidly, the preacher handed his bible to a young boy and it was rushed off into a back room, while the others quickly dismantled their crosses. The group mutter quietly while they eye Abel suspiciously. The preacher approaches cautiously and, speaking in disjointed English, introduces himself as Marturias Hasapina. He inquires as to Abel's reasons for being here.

"Excellent." The Emperor smiled as he swiftly read the message, then turned to the nearest convenient servant.
"Fetch Commander Corcyn immediately. I have a job for him..."

As the servant hurried out, Charjiil turned back to the musicians playing for the pair of Blade Dancers in the courtyard. The performers were very skilled, but his mind was not on the entertainment.

Rebellion has a way spreading if not checked; there is no time to waste in dealing with this situation. This may well prove beneficial, however. What better chance could there be to begin relations with another nation than aiding its leader in putting down a revolt? This Sultan Harnasiridiya seems a smart man; polite and well cultured, as well. It should be pleasant getting to know him, and allies are always useful...

At this moment, the servant returned with Corcyn.
"Ah, good to see you, Commander. You, servant- get Minister Goret next. I shall wish to speak with him after this meeting."
The servant walked quickly away, knowing that the Minister of Diplomacy would be easy to find.

"I am ever yours to command, Great One. What has attracted your notice? Did some fool declare war on the world again?"

"Far more important, Corcyn. Those lunatics never pose any serious threat; they are merely a nuisance and an insult. The Sultanante of Mugholia, a noble nation with a strong leader, is beset by vile rebels. You know as well as I the effect such events can have on the world, and even my own loyal citizens. Also, I think that we may come to have excellent relations with the Sultan and his land.
I want you to ready a force to aid him in restoring order to his country. Prepare a fleet capable of transporting up to ten Legions as soon as possible, and arrange anything else you think might be needed. There will certainly be street fighting, and probably open ground battles. You know what to expect better than I do. Work quickly; we have no time to lose!"

"It shall be as you say, Emperor."
The Commander bowed, then strode out of the room, muttering about supply convoys and fortified camps. As he stepped through the door, Churyl Goret arrived.

Kneeling before Charjiil, he said "How may I be of service, Emperor?"

"I am sending military aid to the Sultanate of Mugholia, which is dealing with a rebellion. I also wish to send an ambassador, someone who can represent the Glorious Empire suitably in a respectable country, and who has enough experience with the military to serve as a go-between for our forces. A high ranking noble would be best, to show our respect for the Sultan."

"I know just the man, Great One. I shall begin arranging the matter immediately."
As the Minister of Diplomacy departed, Emperor Charjiil began dictating a response to one of his secretaries. In the courtyard, the Blade Dancers continued their intricate performance.

Transmission from Ghout to Mugholia:

Honored Sultan Yamaputisan Harnasiridiya,

I am glad that I can be of assistance in your time of trouble. All legitimate rulers must stand together when one is threatened by revolt. My forces are mobilizing even as I write this. I would be happy to send you a legion of 10,000 skilled soldiers, or up to ten legions if you wish. I am also sending an emissary to aid in relations between our forces. I would be honored of you would accept such a representative after this current conflict is resolved.

May good fortune go with you,
-Emperor Charjiil of Ghout

OOC:
Clever wording! The Emperor would have been happy to send a much larger force than that, but they might have proven difficult to get rid of after the war... [evil laugh].
As I said, I'm very impressed with your work; I hope our nations will continue to interact.
By the way, does Mugholia have a coastline? If so, what's it like? Ghout traditionally uses the sea for military transport as much as possible, except for very short distances.

"Yes sir, the news agencies have been confirmed by surveillance. Almost the entire country is, to some extent, actively engaged in civil war."

On the far wall, a woman appeared: though she spoke, no sound was heard. It was a feed taken from one of the countless news organizations; in the bottom-right corner the words "War Erupts in Mugholia" were emblazoned in red and yellow.

"As of now, the government - a dictatorial regime headed by a man named Yamaputisan Harnasiridiya - has begun a counteroffensive against the revolutionaries with relative success."

"The revolt appears to stem from the generally oppressive rule of the Sultan, which has denied the general populace basic democratic rights and freedoms. Their military strength is currently unknown, although we estimate it be between 40-100,000 soldiers, of varying training and assorted armament."

Admiral Drees leaned against the table as he mulled over the briefing. After a moment, he returned to his usual stance, just a few degrees below full attention. "Take the base to standby alert, and have the 1st Division on hand. Relay this information to the Consul for further instruction: in the meantime, step up our aerial surveillance over Mugholia."

---

Less than two hours after first becoming aware of the civil war in Mugholia, a private communique was dispatched from the Office of the Consul, to the Sultanate of Mugholia.

"The intelligence community of the Eredron government has raised concerns of a revolution that has spread through all of Mugholia, possibly linked to the Sultan's refusal to allow democracy to take hold in the country.

The Eredron Republic urges democratic reform, and for the government of Mugholia to negotiate a cessation of hostilities and address the lack of rights and freedoms offered to the Mugholi people.

I urge the Sultan not to escalate this conflict, nor provoke further loss of life.

Awaiting cordially,

Narjiki was busily administrating further media propoganda when she received two transmissions within close space of one another. The first, from Ghout, she smiled at and forwarded onto the Sultan. The second, from Eredron, brought a scowl to her face. She would not waste the Sultan's time with liberal fools like this, she would handle it herself. Composing herself, clearing her head and thinking diplomatically, she typed a reply:

Transmission from Mugholia to Eredron

Consul Hill of Eredron,

Sir, you are apparently mistaken. While it is no secret that our country does not entertain such liberal and democratic ruling methods as the more Westernly located nations of this world, there are some such elements present. We have a council formed from the thirteen tribes, a council of the people. It is representative of their democratic needs and social rights, and it achieves this end just as effeciently as your more liberal methods do. The Sultan values the Mugholian people as much as his own family, and would never seek to harm them. The strict discipline that our country practices is part of our heritage and our culture, it raises a people that respect their Sultan, and it creates disciplined, honest, hard working and moralistic people - what any nation should hope for its people.

As for the Council of Law, Order and Defense, which I head myself, we are not oppressive as many have labelled us. For such liberal societies as yours, my men may seem to intrude upon basic civil rights, but it is not so. The Council and its forces are strict and intrusive for one purpose: protection of the people. Our land is far more turbulent than yours, and as such requires far greater measures to keep it safe. Would you have me recall my men and allow unchecked crime and chaos to roam the streets of Mugholia? The uprising which you speak of is by a radical terrorist group known as the Mugholian Communist Organisation. They do not demand civil liberties, they demand that the Sultan, myself and our entire family surrender to them, to what end only Allah knows, and to allow them to establish a Communist government. Surely you can not condone terrorists, nor Communist governments? Do they not go against your Democratic principles?

I urge you not to interfere, wise Consul. My brother and I have the situation under control, and we are dealing with the rebels with minimal brutality. They are, after all, our people led astray by radicals. We do not seek to harm them, simply to help them, for their own safety. If you like, I will keep you informed on the situation.

Honourably yours,
Narjiki Harnasiridiya

Back on the frontline...
------------------------------------------------------

Harjim had been secured and a small detatchment left to keep the peace. The infantry were on the march again, while the armoured units remained behind to wait for the mobile base to pack up. Sultan Yama received the forwarded message from Narjiki, along with a quick note that a democratic nation was attempting to intervene, but she was handling it, as the base was being dismantled around him. He quickly dictated a reply to an officer:

Transmission from Mugholia to Ghout:

Emperor Charjiil,

At this point in time 10,000 men will be more than sufficient, thank you. I shall await news of their arrival. I must apologise for the briefness of this reply, but my forces are in transition. I shall reply at greater length once we establish a base of operations at the next city.

Graciously yours,
Sultan Yamaputisan Harnasiridiya
Sultanate of Mugholia

The transmission was made and the dismantling of the base completed. Sultan Yama climbed aboard his armoured command vehicle and the armoured units rolled out after the infantry. The closest two cities were Ambasi to the North and Onami to the North West. Ambasi was not in revolt, though fleeing rebels had headed in that direction. Still, the Sultan decided it was more important to tackle the active threats than the idle - the army continued onwards to Onami.

OOC:

Ghout: Thanks for the compliments!

Mugholia is land locked, but is not too far from the coast of India/Indo-China. India is neutral in the conflict, but Mugholia has trading links with them, so unless I'm breaking any protocols here, I'd say that they would not interfere with any aid crossing through their country to get there.

P.S. to get an exact location of where they are, I took the disputed territories of Kashmir, directly between India and China, on the eastern side, as the inspiration for my nation.

Onami was a normal looking town. No great defences but not easy to move in either. Sergeant Mattius took this all in with his practised eye even as the helicopter flew towards the town. The helicopter landed about three kilometres out of the town and the four man team immediatly disembarked and set up a small covered communications base. The team then split in two, two of the soldiers started up the global communications system and connected to the military net. The other two put small radios in their ears and, after dressing in rags so they would fit in, hid a couple of small weapons under their clothes and set off to set up a observation point in the city.

OOC- What do you think so far? The team is based around the SAS style four man/two man teams. The ones in the city are going to cause problems for the invading forces. Think explosives and sniper fire. This team is going to be supported by a full military regiment. The elite of my army. Para type troops. Any problems/suggestions?

Abel shrugged off his pack and gently held the preacher's shoulders and placed a kiss on his forehead before speaking.

"Marturias, I am Matthew, and my reasons are simple. I am here to bring the words of the Holy Christian Empire, in the name of the Lord our God.
"While you do what you can, your Sultan has spurned God, and turned from his love. For this heresy, he shall be punished, but other heresies dwell in this place, and we shall return your poor nation to the arms of the Lord"

Whether or not Abel is who he claims to be, he exudes a sense of confidence and trust, as if he is so certain of what he is doing that there could be no doubt that it is correct.

His clothes are dusty, but appear well made, the same with his hiker's backpack that now rests against a table. He appears to be unarmed, but is also obviously in shape and probably perfectly capable of taking of himself.

In Harjim...
-------------------------------

Marturias, the preacher, nodded to Abel and motioned to two stools, taking one of them himself. When the two were seated he explained that there was nothing that could be done without bloodshed. The people were not willing to take up arms; at least not the ones in this room, though he does not deny that some were participating in the uprising. He inquires as to whether or not you have a plan.

-------------------------------
In Delidia...
-------------------------------

Narjiki had just completed an update on the revolution and ordered its global broadcast:

The Mugholian revolution is on the backfoot as Sultan Yama and his brave loyalists bring the fight back to the terrorists. Only hour previously the Royal Mugholian Army scattered the rebel forces in Harjim, the source of the disturbance, and restored peace to the city. The streets are full of celebration at a return to order.

<Cut to scenes of rejoicing Mugholians>

There were minimal casualties suffered, and the Royal Army was ordered to capture, not attack, dissenters. The Sultan is rehabilitating those who have come under the influence of this radical sect rather than persecuting, and already a centre for such has been established in Harjim. The Sultan and his Royal Army continue onwards to subdue the rest of the nation. It is predicted that this upsurgence shall not last more than two days.

-------------------------------
On the frontline...
-------------------------------

Sultan Yama and the army reached the city of Onami at 0457 hours. The sun was just beginning to peer across the horizon, and the animals of the moutainsides were stirring. The army halted, an officer approached and requested orders. The Sultan stared at the city and brooded upon his next move for a moment; Onami was nestled within a rocky crag, it was small and desolate, the only notable aspect of the city was its thriving mining industry. It had a low population, but it also had a very small perimeter. Dwellings were built upwards, not outwards, due to lack of space, and the narrow streets would not make an invasion easy. Any of the larger and less mobile armoured units would be utterly useless here, and he was positive the rebels accounted for that. Still, they were just peasants, how prepared could they be?

"Commander!" barked the Sultan, "I want the artillery deployed around the city, and the armoured units on perimeter patrol. Send two commando teams, one in from the north and the other from the south, and I want the air cavalry to take off from Delidia immediately and support the teams."

The commander nodded and rushed off to convey the orders. It only took thirty minutes before the sounds of helicopters could be heard coming from the west. The commando teams entered the city just as the air cavalry arrived.

OOC:

Scar: A little information on why they are intervening would be nice, but otherwise great.

Isam: Not quite sure how you're planning on taking this, so to give you a little more freedom I'll give you control of Marturias. I'll slap you on the wrist if you do anything naughty. :p

Ghout: That's fine, weekends are busy for us all. I'm unsure if anyone claims the region either.

"In every corner of Mugholia, a civil war is being fought, waged against the dictatorial government by those seeking democracy in that small Asian country. The Republic of Eredron urges all the civilized world not to allow this bloodshed to go by unnoticed, as has oft happened in the past.

I urge the Sultanate to move immediately to halt military offensives and attempt a peaceful negotiation to end this civil war. I urge the Sultanate to allow Eredronian peacekeepers to establish a humanitarian effort in the wartorn country of Mugholia."

In a move of caution and preparedness, from the Eredronian naval base on the pacific island of Naori was sent the Naval Force Ardent, assigned the task of monitoring the situation from the coast of India.

Meanwhile, Eredronian diplomats had begun meeting with the Indian government to create a temporary right of passage for Eredronian aircraft.

Narjiki's face went bright red and she went off into an angry stream of cussing and slurs against "meddling liberal fools". Her men were used to her temper, and as such remained steadfast, but the media people were not so accustomed and shied away in fear. Slowly she composed herself, smoothed down her hair, and with a scowl typed a message to Eredron:

Transmission from Mugholia to Eredron:

Consul Hill of Eredron,

I have warned you to be wise and to not intervene in this matter. If you long to preserve the peace that you so desire, then do not cross the borders of Mugholia. I will state this clearly and plainly: should you enter the Sultanate of Mugholia with any armed troops, or with a non-diplomatic force of any kind, then you will be responsible for precipitating war between our two nations. Just as we would have no mind to meddle in the affairs of your state, I would beg of you to reciprocate.

Once again, I reiterate, any forces that you send will be deemed an act of aggression and will precipitate war. The Sultan shall not desist from disabling this illegal and unconstitutional uprising. Do not take my words lightly Consul, Mugholia will not stand for foreign intervention.

Narjiki Harnasiridiya
Marharaja of Delidia
Sultante of Mugholia

After this she transmitted a message to the Sultan, and then began both international brodcasts and private transmissions appealing for help. The global transmissions were as follows:

Monarchs and other legitimate rulers of the world,

Our nation of Mugholia is beset by a terrible uprising that threatens to deprive my family of its legitimate right to rule. Even more distressing is the threat that foreign, liberal powers, with no right to meddle in our affairs, are making. They are also attempting to deprive us of our right to rule and to tell us in which way we should govern our country. I urge you to support us in any way possible so that these unrighteous and unlawful actions may be put to an end! I await your response eagerly.

Faithfully yours,
Narjiki Harnasiridiya
Marharaja of Delidia
Sultanate of Mugholia

The Sultan received the transmission from his sister from an officer that ran up flailing his arms and calling out to him urgently. He read it and his face quickly turned red. He called to an officer and barked out a message:

Transmission from Mugholia to Ghout:

I beseech you, send additional troops to guard the border as well as a naval and air guard to protect against their incursion. We legitimate rulers must stand strong in the face of liberal terrorism! If we allow them to succeed here, then where shall they succeed next?

Lieutenant Colonel Yassaf Karaigha led his ten man team southwards over the rocky outcroppings near Onami. A squadron of helicopters roared overhead and began hovering above the city; it was time to move. Yassaf signalled and single file his team moved swiftly and silently across the rocks until they reached the outskirts of the city. Already the sound of gun fire could be heard as the rebels shot at the air cavalry with their heavy machine guns.

Four guns, town square, neutralise them or we're useless!

It was the air cavalry squadron leader. The helicopters roared back out of the city and began circling the perimeter. Yassaf nodded and made some hand signals to his men. They quickly entered the town and made their way to the centre. Along the way some resistance was met, but only one shot was fired, and there were no fatalities, they simply knocked the rebels unconcious and bound them, then dragged them into nearby, unoccupied buildings. When they reached the town square, they chose one of the residential buildings and entered. They ascended swiftly and took up a position on the roof. One man unslung his back pack, then three helped him empty its contents and assemble the sniper rifle within. Once it was assembled, he moved quietly to the skirting wall around the roof, set the gun to rest against it and put his eye to the sight. He breathed deeply, held the gun steady, then with a loud bang one of the gunners fell dead. The sniper immediately lined up his next target and repeated, felling the second.

The rebels in the centre broke into commotion, shouting "Sniper! Sniper!" and spraying fire at the roofs of all the buildings surrounding the town centre. The sniper cursed, pulled his gun down, and ducked behind the skirting wall. The rest of Yassaf's team followed suit as the ping of bullets and the crumbling sound of concrete being destroyed began to sound far too close for comfort. As they did so, another shot was heard, accompanied by a scream and the silencing of another heavy gun. The sniper took his chance, bringing the gun back up and let off another shot in short notice, taking out the forth gunner. A man below made a run for one of the guns, but the sniper took him out before he made it. Yassaf pressed a button on his wrist and spoke into the mic next to his mouth, "Threats neutralised, get in here! We need to scare them out of the town centre."

The air cavalry returned and the rebels began to scatter. Yassaf turned made a signal, and the gun was dismantled, then they descended the stairs again. When they were about half way down a loud explosion shook the building and shattered the windows. After regaining their footing the team rushed downstairs, sparing silence, and burst out into the town square, guns at the ready. Lying in the centre of town was a helicopter, aflame, the rest of the air cavalry had scattered once again.

"Shit!" Yassaf swore, "one of the bastards has a STA!"

OOC: Just to clarify, in case you don't know, STA stands for Surface to Air.

OOC- My characters are freelancers and fight because they can. A bit weird but they try to help anybody against dictators and similar. They are all ex-military and well trained. They have come to support the rebels becasue their old town was taken over by a cruel and tyrannical dictator. Cliched I know but it works. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. The rebels don't know about us yet so whoever is in charge of the rebels in Onami please contact them.

The two man team that were hiding in the middle of Onami watched as the rebels in the centre of the town were engaged by a sniper. After they looked around the roofs they had narrowed it down to two buildings. One that was one storey shorter than the one they were in at the moment and the big building opposite. Sergeant Mattius unpacked his Barrett 50 cal sniper rifle and set it up on a window opening onto a balcony so that no one below them could see the barrel. Then with Corporal Vivat watching his back with his SA-80 pointed at the door, Mattius started to scan the roofs for the enemy sniper.

OOC: I can't really reply to that Scar. I'm trying to leave it a little open for you to intervene, but you'll have to be a bit more liberal and take things into your own hands. I don't mind you saying that you pick off a troop or two, just solong as you don't go so far as to say you wipe out my whole army, or the likes. :p

OOC:Thanks for the freedom. Now for some fun ;)

IC: The two soldiers left in the communication base outside the town were surprised when the a tank pulled up just behind their hidden tent. The crew hatch popped open and one of the soldiers got out. He went over to one of the trees nearby and unziped his trousers. Corporal Kerins pulled out his silenced pistol and lined up the shot. Perfect. He fired and the soldier slumped forward. The other corporal, Franik, pulled out a grenade and climbed onto the top of the tank.
"Fire in the hole." He muttered as he popped the pin and dropped the grenade inside the tank. THUD. The grenade rocked the tank and sprayed blood and gore out of the top hatch and the open vision slits.
"Right. Good work but it is time for us to get out of here. Franik pack the kit up we will RV with the rest of the squad in the city." Kerins said as he calmily pulled out his rifle and started to keep watch for any incoming enemies. As soon as the two of them packed up they set off for the city.

Reports of guerilla tactics were coming in from both the commando teams, reporting some casualties from snipers, and the armoured unit on perimeter patrol. The core of the rebel defense had been shattered, and the rebels were taking to the streets, so the Sultan decided to strike. However, he also decided it was time to turn up the heat for the rebels.

"Onami is small and cramped, we can't make use of the armoured units, and sending in all our infantry will only increase casualties for us. We don't want to follow in the footsteps of the Germans crossing the Netherlands," said Sultan Yama, "the reports of the uprising at Peruthi have been nothing more than violent protestations, no heavy weaponry. Send six armoured units to lock the city down, it's small and isolated, it shouldn't be a problem. Send three quarters of the infantry along with three armoured units to Laynah. The rest of the infantry is to storm Onami immediately, taking prisoners as much as possible, I don't want casualties! The final armoured unit is to remain at a safe distance from the city outskirts to catch any fleeing rebels."

The generals who were in his command tent nodded in approval and rushed off to convey his orders. The army divided up into its respective groups, some heading South West towards Peruthi, some heading Westwards for Laynah, and the remainder marching on Onami. As they marched through the narrow streets men announced from loud speakers that if the rebels did not disperse then the Royal army's artillery would level the city. It was an idle threat, mostly, but it had the affect upon the undisciplined rebel peasantry that the generals had desired. It caused a panic, and thusly made the rebels easier to disable. Most of the rebels could be ordered to put down their weapons, and were then arrested, but some put up a resistance and had to be shot at. The army was highly disciplined, and managed to aim for legs, arms and other less than fatal areas most of the time.

The more disciplined, core of the rebel insurgance was not so panicked, and fled for the mountains rather than straight into the arms of the army. When inquired by rebel sympathisers, the rebels fleeing the the mountains were travelling a long way westwards to meet up with the main rebel forces who were preparing for a final stand in Kismet, should all other cities fall into the Sultan's hands. The royal army was now about half way through the town and beginning to see the end of the resistance.

OOC: Got to keep the story rolling. Giving you another chance to mess with the army again if you want Scar, or you can move on. My plan is to brush over all the cities quickly, then draw out the final conflict at Kismet. Unless something else prevents me...

Mattius was scanning the streets for any movement when he heard somebody moving around on the floor below. Quickly he moved to the window and pulled his silenced pistol out of its holster. Beneath him he could hear the soldiers talking.
“The colonel says that this will be the command centre for the garrison. Get the communication equipment set up. The first message will be sent by the Colonel sending the password to the central communications hub at the capitol. Get this floor cleared and set the stuff up.”
“Yes Sir.”
“Does anyone know what happened to that damned sniper?”
“No sir.”
“If you find him bring him to me.”
“Yes Sir. I don’t think we have found any evidence of him yet.”
“Ok get on with it then soldier. I’m going upstairs to find a toilet.”
“Yes Sir.”
There was a thump as a door was opened and the stairs creaked as he climbed them. Suddenly there was a massive crack that echoed around the house and small courtyard outside. The officer started to run up the stairs and opened the door to the room Mattius was in. He gasped in shock as he saw Mattius and started to raise his submachine gun. Another loud crack and the officer fell, half his head blasted off, blood and brains dribbling down his uniform.
“Good shooting. Who was that?” He asked over the short range throat-mike.
“Corporal Franik. The other two finally got here.” Corporal Stapleton said.
“Right stay there. I’m coming to meet you. This building is the command centre for this area; we are going to leave this city after we take out the colonel. That is, if nothing else interesting comes up.

Abel made absolutely no reaction to increased noise of the army in the city, ignoring it as he has ignored it before.

He continued talking to the preacher, outlining the basic idea that Isam was ready to intervene if the Hierarchy decided that there was a need for it, and that the decision was all but made. The only thing that the Hierarchy required was someone willing to take on the responsibilities of office once the task was completed, and the reassurance that the monotheistic folk of Mugholia would support a regime put in place by the Holy Christian Empire.

The general principle behind the possible involvement of the Christian state was theological rather than economic, and Abel made sure that Marturias was aware of this - the Sultanate had very little that Isam wanted, save perhaps a launch-point for troops if it became necessary (although Abel made the point that this was unlikely).

A great convoy cut swiftly across the waves- troop carriers, supply ships, and escort craft, all flying the Sun and Stars of the Ghouti Empire. Aboard the flagship, Fang of the Sea, Lord Tarchyl Vurgan poured over his notes in his stateroom. He would be representing the Empire, once the force arrived in Mugholia. Mordra Tondrath, one of the few noblewomen in the military and the only one wh had earned Commander Corcyn's respect, looked back and forth between the best maps they had been able to acquire and a detailed list of the forces currently under her control.

8 standard battalions, each containing 90 squads of infantry and 10 of Bladeslingers ((the Ghouti special forces)).
1 Level 3 battalion, containing 60 squads of heavy infantry and 40 of elite Bladeslingers.
1 guardian battalion, containing 40 squads infantry, 40 squads heavy infantry, and 20 squads of Bladeslingers.

She carefully wrote out a set of plans, taking into account every possibility she could think of. Mordra rarely lost a battle; this careful planning was one of the biggest reasons for her success.

Transmission from Ghout to Eredron:

Consul Hill of Eredron:

Feel free to say what you wish, of course, but do not aid the terrorists in their attack on the Sultan of Mugholia. If you intervene in this matter, you will be interfering with national sovereignty, acting against a legitimate leader, and attacking an ally of the Ghouti Empire. I would, of course, be forced to fight against any such illegal invasion of a friendly nation. There are literaly countless dictators in this world, and you cannot possibly get rid of all of them. Do not start a war between two countries of over two billion citizens because you dislike the ruler of one fairly minor Asian nation.

The carrier force Ardent, cruising at a slow, almost leisurely speed, held a relatively steady position in the Bay of Bengal, 100 miles south of the Asian coastline. In what the Navy was calling a "prescheduled naval war exercise", the fleet was carrying out mock air campaigns in international waters, whose main purpose served to distract from the detachment of Ohio and Virginia submarines that had broken from the fleet and moved northeast, closer to the continent of Asia.

Meanwhile, the Consul had given the go-ahead on the classified Operation Safeguard, in which a team of ten operatives from the NID were to filter into the country of Mugholia from India, establishing contacts with the insurgent leaders.

Lieutenant Colonel Yassaf wove through the streets with his team, aiding in the lock down of the city when suddenly he dropped dead with a bang and a splat. The team halted, took cover, and attempted to discern the direction with which the shot had come from. They knew that it was a professional who did that, no peasants could handle a long range sniper shot like that, and so by the time they had figured out what building it had come from they knew whoever did it would be long gone. Still, having worked it out, they ran for the building and checked all floors - to no avail, they had gone without a trace.

The infantry had reached the far end of the city now and the gun fire had finally ceased. They occasionally saw a running figure scrambling over the rocky mountain, but their orders were not to persue, and not to kill, so there was nothing they could do. Onami was locked down very quickly due to its small size and so they packed up in less than an hour and were rolling out once more towards Delidia, with only a small garrison to keep control.

-------------------------------
At Peruthi...
-------------------------------

Dispersing the rebels was a piddling task for tank Commander Garheesh Parsi. Six units had been more than enough to frighten the rebels into submission with nothing more than a few gun sprays. Once the rebels realised small arms could not dint tank armour they capitulated quickly when a threat was announce that if they did not disarm they would be shot at. The small force of rebels were quickly disarmed and thrown in jail. Just two tanks were left behind to ensure they remained in jail, then the rest of the force continued onwards to Delidia where they were to regroup with the rest of the army.

-------------------------------
At Laynah...
-------------------------------

The resistance had been rather strong here, but was overcome with minimal casualties eventually. Laynah was a reasonably large, sprawling town on a flat plain between the two great mountain ranges of Mugholia. Using the armoured units to spearhead the assault, the rebels were broken up and the infantry followed in its traditional sweep and lock down strategy. There were reported sixty two casualties here, the highest yet, as the rebels here seemed more disciplined and less willing to put down their guns. It was almost as if with every city that the Sultan regained, the rebels became more desperate. Once the city was locked down the forces moved onwards to regroup at Delidia.

-------------------------------
In Harjim...
-------------------------------

Marturias shook his head slowly as he listened to Abel, "Stranger, we not know of your land, your people, your way. The people will not listen to other government."

He cleared his throat and continued, "Why trade one master for other? We not like the Sultan Yama, but we want our Sultan. All we ask is for more freedom, better treatment - we want other Sultan, not other government. Of course, I want the lord to have a place in Mugholia, and to be allowed to worship him, but what you suggest? No, that is not what we want."

-------------------------------
Back in Delidia...
-------------------------------

The three portions met at the royal academy in Delidia, worn out and exhausted. It was now midday of the day after Christmas and the hot, opressive Mugholian sun was beating down upon them. A moderate wind kicked up dust, caking the city in an irritant fog that left a horrid taste in your mouth. Sultan Yama considered his options carefully; he could rest, allow his troops to recuperate, but give the rebels a chance to do so as well, or he could push on, chancing high casualties and simple errors due to fatigue. He also had to do something about the looming threat of liberal intervention, as while he had Ghout's support, it was possible he would have to rely on his own forces before they arrived.

Soon he came to a decision; he ordered the troops to encamp at the royal academy and ordered the reserves to be mobilised and ready. He would await the first arrival of Ghout's forces to join his own before he moved into the Western half of Mugholia. With the East under lock down, he at least only had one front to face now. Soon this rebellion would be over, and there would never be another to face him after that.

Mugholian Forces
Main & Reserve Army (360000 men each):

32 Rahajiis (10000 men each)
40 Mahajiis (100 T-62 tanks each, 5 men per tank)
20 Karistos (100 AN-32 jets each)
40 Lampedes (40 MI-24 helicopters each, 5 men per helicoptor)
10000 auxilaries i.e. medics, engineers etc.

Special Forces (2000 men):

10 Mahaghazi (100 elite royal guards each)
50 Commando teams (10 men each)
25 Demolition teams (20 men each)

OOC:
Scar, I let the colonel die so I could move the story along, hope that fits in with your RP.

Ghout, I understand, your logistics make sense. It may seem like my troops are moving fast, but Mugholia is quite a small expanse, it would only take the better part of a day of unhindered travelling to cross it.

I chose to work out the amount of men I would have by taking 6% of my population. I chose that number because of the compulsary military service and high military spending of the nation, which would make for a larger force.

Also, Delidia is geographically in the rough centre of Mugholia. All the towns the Sultan attacked were on the east side of Delidia, so now all that's left are the western ones.

The look of enthusiasm in Abel's eyes dropped to one of supreme disappointment as he rose.

"As you wish, although you do not seem to have realised what I meant. Your ruler would be one of yours. Your government would be one of yours. The only difference is that it would be our blood on the streets, and our forces that fought for the Lord.
"As it is, it seems that you are happy to be slaughtered by your heretic sultan, to have your rights stolen by his blaspheming warriors and your souls torn into Hell by your lack of dedication. The Lord is everything, and nothing is too much to give if it brings even a single soul into His arms. You do not love Him - to you, He is your comfort and that is all. To us, He is everything, and I would gladly die in his service. You hide the symbols of your faith, I am proud to bear mine."

Abel turned and strode toward the door, after Maturias's refusal he already knew what the Hierarchy would wish done.

"Consul, what do you have to say regarding reports that you are planning military action in Asia?"

"As always, in any situation, a military response would be a last resort; I can tell you that we are trying at the present to reach a peaceful accord with Mugholia that will ensure democracy and freedom is allowed the Mugholian people, while not risking further loss of life. Of course, we are keeping all venues open."

"Can you confirm the presence of an Eredronian carrier group in that area? If so, what is their purpose?"

"Yes, a task force is engaged in prescheduled naval exercises off the coast of India. Should we receive the request, the task force would take primary charge of any humanitarian peacekeeping operation."

Narjiki had just finished wrapping up a press conference across the border in India, in counter to Eredron's, and was heading back to Delidia. She knew that denying rumours of brutality and opression was not going to deter liberal interventionists, but it was still her job to attempt to make a presentable public face for Mugholia. She stared out the plane's window at the twilight desert below; she would be back soon enough, just in time to see the Sultan put the rebels in checkmate.
