Starblaydia U21WC7 Squad Announced
Dwarves brought in for first time ever

With Dwarves Khim Azanulbizarn and Hurin Menegroth, Starblaydia's multi-species society is certainly beginning to integrate as far as Sports go.

Other notables include the fact that only Defenders Rigoberto and Koentas and Midfielders Montefalcon and Evans have ever put the ball in the net for their country. This will make high-scoring matches involving Starblaydia quite unlikely, according to the bookmakers.

Starters in bold and purple.

Sanctaphrax for the first time are entering a world competition and are hoping to do well, and gain experience. The team are headed up by River-Rise Rovers Midfielder and son of the prominent general Ms Varis Lodd, Andrius Lodd. Other players worthy of note include Lake Landing United goalkeeper Jerimus Scalous, who has let in only 32 goals in the last 60 league and cup matches and striker Jon Falious who has scored 27 goals in 39 matches and is the all-time topscorer in Sanctaphrax. Here is the entire line up and subs.

Jerimus Scalous (G)

Selitus Dragus(DL)
Ralis Grenix(DC)
Lexix Cranis(DC)
Callius Menius(DC)
Endrix Soffix(DR)

Maserrat To Field 'New Squad'

After the success of the Dynamos in the Baptism Of Fire Cup, Maserrat have suddenly been propelled into a somewhat different light in the eyes of many. No longer whipping boys, they look like a prominent team in the world of NS football. This is apparent no more than in the U21 world, where they are ranked in the top ten. However, the departure of Ferevarco Ferenitzin and Qostaze Ubuloy into the full team has left Slobodan Gresko with a little problem: how does the team progress without them? The two seasons between U21WC6 and this tournament has been a godsend for Gresko, as players from two teams in particular - Politehnica Galati and Militaritzin Corbaz - have become big names in the Maserrat Tordeliga, and a few have been called up for the U21 team. There are several new faces in the squad, and indeed, Gresko is confident that the team can finally progress in this tournament.

"There are not many teams better than us on paper, and I think we have as good a chance as any other team of progressing to the quarters, if not winning the whole thing. We can only do our best here, and that is what we intend to give."

Here is the full squad:

Coach Terry Mangione announced the roster for the third U21 competition for the Sarzonian Junior Stars:

ROSTER (starters in BOLD)

GOALKEEPERS:
18 Horace Sandt (Crow College, Portland): This 20 year old took over as the starting goalkeeper during World Cup 6 and led the team to the final. He will be the unquestioned starter in this World Cup.
30 Brian Tawes (Burlington Braves - minor league): This 19 year old bypassed college to sign with the Braves and has earned the starting job with the team. He'll have to sit and watch as this World Cup gets under way, however.

DEFENDERS:
3 Mark Clark (Syosset University): Just 19 years old, he earned a starting job at left back as a freshman for his football savvy and earned a high school diploma at 16 because of his off-field smarts.
13 David Trautwig (Bausch State College): The brother of former U21 defender Daniel Trautwig, David quickly earned a reputation as one of the best right halfbacks in college football after his brother graduated (19 years of age).
14 George Baylor (Benatar University): Has become known as a steady defender who can shut down the opponent's best strikers. Plays a physical style that often draws cautions and suspensions. 20 years old.
15 Mike Tippett (New Bolash State College): Noted for his exploits as a right fullback and can play sweeper if the Junior Stars shift to a 3-5-2. At 18 years old, his future with the senior team seems to be all but guaranteed.
4 Kevin Spacek (Portland City College): Known as a great offensive defender, he often goes in to play halfback if the team is trailing and they need an offensive spark. At 18 years old, he plays like an older player.
6 Harvey Benedict (Woodstock Wild): A seldom-used reserve on the defending champions, he will likely get playing time for the Junior Stars. Just turned 19.

MIDFIELDERS
8 Barry Conley (Randolph Reavers - minor league): A distant cousin of defender Mike Conley, this 19 year old shares his relative's speed but also his propensity to get out of position.
9 Valentin Kienzl (Tyrol Tigers - minor league): He just turned 19, but played a vital role in the Junior Stars' success in their first-ever U21 competition with his dangerous left side free kicks.
11 Chris Dunham (Stephen Stills High School, Woodstock): Surprisingly physical for a 17 year old who consistently plays with older players, he easily won the starting job as a defensive midfielder.
19 Karey Lewis (St. George Saints - minor league): Has a striker's knack for scoring, particularly with headers off corners, but plays defense too well to be put up front. He turned 18 last week and can play attacking midfielder if Kienzl struggles.
24 Edward Manley (Woodstock Wild): The 17 year old is a natural on the right flank of midfield. His speed gives defenses fits though he tends to overrun the ball from time to time.
20 Pedro Alomades (St. George): Seemed to be born with a football at his feet. He has ballskills that veteran SFC players envy, but could use a lot of seasoning with a minor league team or the Junior Stars. At 16 years old, by far the youngest player on the team.

FORWARDS:
25 Wilton James (New Daurmont Nighthawks - minor league): This 20 year old plays withdrawn forward for the Nighthawks but can play striker when the need calls for it.
26 John Clinton (Lorber State University): Clinton set a school record with 22 goals his freshman season. At 19 years old, has potential to be a dangerous forward for years to come.
17 Carter Buck (Woodstock): Rarely gets on the pitch for his club's senior side, but plays extensively on the reserve team. At just 18 years old, Buck is on the verge of getting some playing time with the traditional powers of the SFC. Is known for his dangerous first touch.
22 Liam Dudley (Cooke State University): Known for a nose for the goal, but needs great service from midfield to be effective.

TEN Tryouts Nearly Complete

With the U21 coming around again, it is time to try to mangle their way into a semblance of a youth team. this is important as the youth in teh Nest is not performing like their older counterparts, and many of them are getting a bit older.

Tryouts should be finished tomorrow wwith a full posting of teh team to follow.......hopefully before they have to play their first game, they will know they are playing.

Oddslavo dumberfounded as Insanicians trash them totally and utterly

TnUI showed real power, the kind that has placed them in the top 3 in the world. A pretty mean feat in a world of well over 100,000 nations. Moving away from the defensive 5-3-2 that kept the Insanicians in the 20s and 30s of yesteryear. The full power of the this squad of youngsters, labelled generation Xcellent by the press, was focused by the manager into a goal scoring machine. At the end of the first half Oddslavo were already 5-0 down, had had hardly any possession and were totally demoralised. It's reported the LEian manager of the team threatened to torture the team if they didn't score. The Insanician manager got wind of this and told his team to give them a soft goal. That didn't stop them scoring 2 more in the second half. It finished Total n Utter Insanity 7 Oddslavo 1.

Starblaydia Start with Three Points
Good so far... Let's hope there are no penalties

Starblaydia's Young'uns kicked off their Fourth Under-21 Championship with a win today as they beat Regional Rivals Oceaice 2-1 in Group G. Though the other result in the Group is unknown at present, Starblaydia will at least be in the top two, perhaps even at the top depending on the Druida/Kylaai result.

Marco Del Blanco and Stefanos Stantzos both scored their first ever goals for Starblaydia in international competition while the defence held pretty well, but for a single goal conceded towards the end of the first half.

Starblaydia are looking quite good so far, some neat plays and the good-old 4-4-2 diamond worked just fine, thankyou.

Starblaydia 2 - 1 Oceaice

The Squires are determine to win this U-21 after losing to Bedistan in the quarterfinals of VI who eventually won the that championship. With the success of the World Cup XVIII, they is not shortage of motivation to win and win well. The final team roster is still in limbo due to the usual problem with teams wanting to keep their players for domestic games.

Reporters from around Fmjphoenix and other various countries were crammed around the press table of the Vikings for the announcement of their U21WC7 squad. It was expected to be nearly the same team that was in WC18, but it would be seen that Coaches Wash, Pulmore and Accrew had gone through the pool of players in Fmjphoenix and made a few changes.

"We have made a few changes to our team. A few people are no longer here, but we are glad that they were here to help and make our team better. The one loss that hit hard was the retirement of Mariano Rodriquez. He will be missed and we have already offered him a staffing position to help coach and continue to influence this team" Coach Wash told reporters befor they announced the team roster.

Gresko 'Pleased' With Group Draw

U21 coach Slobodan Gresko has stated that he is 'pleased' with how the group draw has gone for his team (Gresko being as conservative as ever!). The draw has pitted Maserrat against Bedistan, second seeds in the tournament. Maserrat played the team in their first ever U21 tournament and lost 3-1 - hopefully things will be a little tighter this time. The other two teams in the group - Legalese and The Lowland Clans - are unseeded for this tournament, which leads us to believe that Maserrat will (finally) progress into the latter stages of the cup. It's been a long hard slog for the Dynamos, but surely they are now in a position where they can finish above third in the group. If they don't, it won't be pretty in Maserrat!

Group Predictions

Bedistan
Hmmm, will Bedistan progress from the group stage? What do you think!?! One of the best in the world, anybody betting against them winning the group is a complete idiot. Prediction - 1st.

Legalese
VERY promising. Could end up being one of the best, but should not trouble the seeded teams too much at the moment. Expect them to do great things eventually though. Prediction - 3rd.

Maserrat
Have to progress this time - simply HAVE TO! The only obvious sticking point will be Bedistan, but then again, they're sticking points for everybody! Are expected to make the quarters, and perhaps even further...Prediction - 2nd.

The Lowland Clans
Their first entry into the U21 tournament, and although they're amongst the best in the world in the full squads, they're starting at ground zero here. Shouldn't qualify, and it should be a race for third with Legalese. Prediction - 4th.

So there we have it! It should be an interesting tournament to say the least, and hopefully one that ends well for Maserrat.

President Smith: "These are great times to be Druidan, our full team have made the World Cup finals, and now we've got an Under-21s tournament to play."

Unnamed helper: "Have they announced the squad yet?"

President Smith: "No, the manager hasn't picked it yet."

Unnamed helper: "Who is the manager? You sacked the last one."

President Smith: "Um... er... it's..."

Unnamed helper: "You didn't, did you?"

President Smith: "Didn't what?"

Unnamed helper: "You did."

President Smith: "I did what?"

Unnamed helper: "You've forgotten to appoint a new coach, haven't you!"

President Smith: "I... er... welll... yes."

Unnamed helper: "So there's been no squad announcement because there's no-one to announce it."

President Smith: "I... er... guess so."

Unnamed helper: "Well, what are you going to do about it?"

President Smith: "What do you mean, "What am I going to do about it?"?"

Unnamed helper: "Well, you got us into this mess!"

President Smith: "But you're my helper. That's what you do. When I'm in trouble, you help."

Unnamed helper: "You mean..."

President Smith: "I mean, I want you to go and pick the squad."

Unnamed helper: "But I don't know anything about football."

President Smith: "Well that didn't stop the last fella. Anyway, you can ask Trevor Kallins, the coach of the full squad. He'll know more about it."

Unnamed helper: "Well, uh, OK. But don't go blaming me when we go out in the first round."

President Smith: "Don't worry, it'll all be fine..."

Legalese 0-1 Maserrat

Maserrat kicked off their fourth U21 Championship with a 1-0 win over an inexperienced Leagalese team. It was expected that Maserrat would walk this game, but indeed they found it a little difficult. The Legalese defence was strong, and it was hard to point out any decent chances in the first half. However, Maserrat upped their performance a few gears after the break, and it was soon apparent that it would be merely a matter of time before the breakthrough was made. It came on 64 minutes, when a goalmouth scramble resulted in a toe poking the ball into the net. Recordings cannot see whose toe it was, but whoever's it was, it was golden. Not the best of goals, but a vital one nonetheless. It was enough to win the game and put Maserrat second in the group.

The other game in the group produced a shock, as unseeded Lowland Clans beat second-seeds and cup-holders Bedistan 1-0. This put the new boys top of the group after one match, and it will not be easy for anybody to qualify now (except maybe The Lowland Clans), as Bedistan need to win both their remaining games against Legalese and Maserrat. Already it looks like Maserrat may not progress despite being ninth seeds - it's just not fair really!

Junior Stars look very senior in 4-0 win

The Sarzonian Under 21 national team began the first matchday of World Cup 7 looking very different from the team that lost in the championship match in World Cup 6. Besides the usual replacement of players who reached their 21st birthday, the team unveiled a new, less attacking offense that is intended to improve the team's previously shaky defensive status.

Raptor Claw might dispute how "defensive" the new style of play is. The Junior Stars played a dominant match, getting a hat trick from forward John Clinton and a goal from midfielder Valentin Kienzl and rolling to a 4-0 win.

"We're starting to get all facets of our game put together," Coach Terry Mangione said. "We're paying more attention to our defense, but we've wanted to make sure we're not ignoring our offensive talents. It looks like we were able to accomplish those things in this match."

With the change in defensive philosophy, one thing that didn't change was the coach patrolling the Junior Stars sidelines. After intense pressure from the Incorporated Football Federation, the coach saved his job with a knockout stages run that included a trip to the finals and two clean sheets for goalkeeper Horace Sandt. Mangione started Sandt again and he made a case for a position on the senior national team by making four saves, including a difficult, point blank attempt.

"Sandt has steadied himself since the first World Cup," Mangione said. "He's now a reliable goalkeeper and that will bode well if he should be picked by [first team Coach Dave Wilson] or [second team coach David Bostwick] for senior play."

"I can't worry about the future, unless you're talking about the next match," Sandt said. "I can't worry about what happened in the past. We've got a football tournament to win."

The Junior Stars said they expected a tough next couple of matches, including a tilt against Liverpool England, a team that had enormous senior national team success.

"Many of the other teams in this tournament have long-standing traditions of football power," midfielder Valentin Kienzl said. "We're still working to establish ourselves on the international level. But things are looking up for us, definitely."

If the Junior Stars play like they did in the match against Raptor Claw, they might be looking at a championship to add to the senior team's Baptism of Fire Cup.

Unamed Helper 'Sir Trefor Sinclair' horrified as Starblaydia Romp Home

... ahem. Apologies for the title, but there's something to be said about 80s computer piss-takes.

The 4-1 demolition of Bekkside neighbouts and NEWI Cefn Druid breakaways Druida was overshadowed by the serious injury to Vengelis Koentas. Koentas, 20, had to be stretchered off after what was described by medical staff on the spot as 'a serious neck injury'. The Left-Back injured himself whilst scoring Starblaydia's third goal.

Though Julio Matis and Marco Del Blanco had stormed through the Spectrum 2.0 defence in the first half to give Starblaydia a quick and easy 2-0 lead. The Druidans were still putting up a fight so Starblaydia attempted to kill off the game by throwing more men forward in the second half. Koentas was injured as he headed the ball home at the far post from a corner. As Trefor Evans' attemped punch went wayward, Koentas arrived, at speed, at the back post with a powerful header. He momentum carried him into the post at an awkward angle. Both sets of players immediately called for the physios as the crowd's celebrations were dimmed.

A brief 'thumbs-up' to the crowd earned Vengelis a standing ovation and dwarf Khim Azanulbizarn came on to take his place at left-back. Azanulbizarn, the first Dwarf to be capped for Starblaydia U21s, is rather lanky for a Dwarf at 5'2", plus he's bean-pole thin according to their standards, though his figure makes the average Defensive Lineman look like a trim and toned athlete.

Unsettled by the injury to Koentas, Starblaydia looked a little shaky and Trefor Williams nipped in to pull one back. Though this was put right by a fabulous deflected free-kick from Geriant Evans, the Half-Druidish player dedicating his goal to the stricked Koentas.

Starblaydia now sit top of Group G and are near-guaranteed to progress to the Second Round. Thankfully they haven't slipped up at this stage, let's hope the continue to progress in this compeition, and that Vengelis recovers from his injury.

U21 Coach Not Worried After Slip-up
Bedistan 0-1 The Lowland Clans

TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY -- No, the Cubs certainly weren't expected to lose to the Lowland Clans, who are fielding their first ever under-21 side despite being regular participants in the main World Cup. But despite the loss, Cubs coach Henry Thoreau has stated that he is not worried about his team's chances of making the knockout stages.

"Sure, I'm disappointed," he said. "But just think about last time, why don't you. You may recall that we played the worst game of football ever seen in Bedistan short of the World Cup 8 final and crashed four-nil to Jeruselem. And how did we recover from that? By winnin' the bloody Cup, that's how! If anything, I'd say this is a good sign, because we're starting off like last time."

Team members refused to comment.

This is the SNBC reporting on a promising start to Sanctaphrax's international U21 football side. Yes, they lost 1-0 to The Eagles Nest but that was not at all bad for their first ever match on the international stage. The Eagles Nest fielded a stronger team on the day and walked away 1-0 winners, through a 37th minute goal. The goal came from a corner, which was headed clear by Lexix Cranis, only as far as an Eagle Nest players foot. The ball looked completely covered by Jerimus Scalous until it deflected off Callius Menius and sent the ball into the opposite corner. Jerimus could only watch as it sailed past him. There were a few good chances by both sides, including one where lead striker Jon Falious was clearly fouled inside the area, instead of the penalty, he got given a yellow card for "diving". We caught up with Jon earlier, and here was what he had to say.

"Obviously, i'm disappointed, we didn't come here to lose, but i'm sure that they didn't either. I'm very disappointed with the referee's decision not to give the penalty, but at the end of the day its his choice and I respect that. We created a few good chances and unfortunately, made a few mistakes at the back. The goal was... completely out of the blue, no-one could have seen it coming. It was a brilliant shot, and an unlucky deflection off our defender and what can I say? I wish we could have won, we played just as well as them, but at the end of the day, they got the points. Thats the way it goes"

Young Streeters Win Six-Nil
Probably Would Have Beaten the Altos

In the direst moment of Streetian football history, the Apprentices proved their worth in their two first Under-21 World Cup games in Total n Utter Insanity. In their first game, the Apprentices had the fortune of meeting a vastly understrength Big Pimento, who again succumbed to the Streetians - who all grew up watching the Street losing 1-2 to the senior side six years ago. This time, it was a total rout. Led by Phil McLavish on the right-wing - the best thing since Harald Axewielder - the Apprentices scored four goals in the space of twenty frantic first-half minutes, and just controlled it from there.

With the emergence of this huge talent, both Phil and his brother Niall was called up for the international team for the Cup of Harmony - leaving the Under-21 short of midfielders to play in their 3-5-2 tactic. Carl Goatridge, an 18-year-old from Chesham, was called up for their next match against a 7JM side already infamous for their basketball godmod Jamee (or Jamie?) Gray. Another Jamee Gray, aged 14, had scored their first goal against Jeruselem, only for the team to lose 1-2 later on.

Luckily for the Street, the ball rolled their way despite the loss of McLavish and McLavish, with Cawdron taking the brunt of the workload in their absence. She crossed the ball for Alan Canning's first goal of the game after 19 minutes, which was taken well down on the chest before it was half-volleyed past the 7JM keeper. Despite a good fight from the 14-year-old Gray in particular, the team was overpowered on physique and size and when substitute Jonny Trobdon made it 2-0 with ten minutes to go, qualification was all but decided. Despite a late consolation goal (and another goal from Bitton in the 89th), the Streeters have qualified with two victories (unless Big Pimento beat Jeruselem by a lot of goals), and now face Jeruselem for the right to play-off against the second-placed in Group C, which looks to be Turori at the moment.

Lovisa 2 - 2 Tadjikistan

Total n Utter Insanity - In their first match the young Tadjik Tigers met Lovisa, a though opponent. But the Tigers got the help of Ter Gasparian, the young star from Regar who always played in the Qualification matches of the regular National team of Tadjikistan. Gasparian made the opening goal of the match and showed the crowd that he belongs at the top. The Lovisans were not discouraged and came back, scoring 2 goals they took the lead. But the young Tadjiks refused to give up so easily and Sergi Purkeav saved the day for the Tadjiks when he placed Gasparians assist in the Lovisan box. Maybe for the first time the young Tigers will get beyond the group stage, its definitly possible with players like Gasparian. We'll be watching this team in its next match.

Squires with slow start but Cockbill dent Pimento's egos

Jeruselem won it's first U21 game for championship VII. It was less than inspiring 2-1 win, but then the current U21 team are really mostly the U-19 team with some of last years U-21 team. 7JM were an unknown quantity and the coach was happy for a first up win. The team needs improve it's finishing if it is to mix with Bedistan and company. However, as they say "A win is win".

Cockbill Street make Big Pimento look small with a 6-0 thrashing. Jeruselem coach said he watched a replay of the game "It was scary. BG played badly, but Cockbill looked invincible and made BG look worse than they played. I'm sure everyone will be concerned with they continue this form"

Young Falcons Start Off Strong
Hold favored Vilita to a draw

Well, it wasn't pretty, but Aquiliana was able to hold on and get a point in their first match of the U21 tournament by playing solid defense and only allowing high-powered Vilita to score once after Coria Iussa's nice goal in the first half.. The draw was more than acceptable, as the team is looking to improve upon the dismal showing in the 6th Cup.

The team will play Esth tomorrow night; look for 15-year-old Damián D'Alessandro to have a huge match against the same type of opponent he faces when he starts for the top club in the nation.

--------------Vilitan National Goalkeeper Jimmy Kater will be warming up for his World Cup Finals campaign in the Under-21 Groupstage as the only named keeper for the young Kitties. Other than Kater, Vilita has fielded one of the most inexperienced Under-21 sides in it's history, with only appearances in Regional and Friendly matches as experience, with the exception of 19 year old captain Emarka Laniora. New additions to the lineup include, On Defense 17 year old Tanner Lembi, Strike's breakthrough at the back, and budding lower-league prospect Julio Matengu. At forward, Another lower league prospect, Alioum Konadu of Vilisorma Locals, has been given a chance to shine on the world stage. He will have to out work 15 year old Marine Coast United starlet Riccardo Appolloni, but the Crosaibi based player's inexperience may keep him on the bench. However, the most Visible addition to the squad is none other than 15 year old Attacking Midfielder Inaki Soler. Strike FC's Soler, who made headlines in the Vilitan Cup final against Yeaddin, by flurrying 8 shots on the Owls net, will have to settle in a rotation, with 6 other midfielders fighting for a spot in the lineup. However, when he does play, all eyes will be focused on him.

Yes, you heard that right. 8-5. But which team produced more goals, Liverpool England or Oddslavo? Well, Dance 2 Revolution can answer that. Despite scoring 4 of the 5 goals scored by opponents, they fell to Oddslavo 6-4 in a ten-gaol thriller, with two seperate hat-tricks by John Majowski and Tim Johnson in the first and second halves respectively. Liverpool England scraped through their meeting with Sarzonia, 2-1, with goals from 16-year-old Jimmie Trevor, who's half-Druid, and 18-year-old Abel Turran.

"Obviously I was pleased with the result, but the worrying thing for me is that this group has suddenly become a three-way race, with The Lowland Clans having put themselves in a pretty good position to progress. All they need to do is beat Legalese and they're through. We, on the other hand, have to win against either Bedistan or The Lowland Clans to go through, and we all know now that this may not be as easy as first thought. Yesterday was good, but it could have been a lot better - we could have scored a lot more goals and topped this group after day one. If we are to have any hope of doing well in this tournament, we need to 'up the ante' considerably. Our next match, whoever it is against, needs to be our best match ever. I cannot see Bedistan losing two in a row, and I also cannot see The Lowland Clans losing both their remaining games. My lads need to prove me wrong on at least one of those. They have the talent to do it, but, as we all know, sometimes that just isn't enough."

So what are our predictions for the group based on yesterday's performances? Well, TLC have certainly gone up in our expectations. They'll be challenging for the top two now we think. Bedistan have something to prove now, and we wouldn't put it past them to qualify by winning their remaining games. Unfortunately, we cannot give Legalese much chance now - they're already too far behind in our eyes, although they could help others considerably by holding TLC. Here's our predictions:

Legalese vs. Maserrat - 0:1
Bedistan vs. TLC - 0:1

Maserrat vs. TLC - Draw
Bedistan vs. Legalese - Bed. Win

Bedistan vs. Maserrat - Bed. Win
Legalese vs. TLC - Leg. Win

Predicted group table:

1. Bedistan 6
2. Maserrat 4
3. TLC 4
4. Legalese 3

I'm hoping that we'll have a better goal difference, although thinking about it, this is rather unlikely. I'm usually wrong with predictions anyway, so it really doesn't matter to me.

U21s blown away by FMJ

FMJphoenix gave the Audioslavia Child Labourers a quick smacking 3-0 with three first half goals. Falton Flan hit the first past Graveson after just nine minutes after being played through by Alex Rivera. Rivera grabbed number two just eight minutes later with a header from a Zeus cross.

Audioslavia's 'mare of a game was complete, forty-five minutes early, when Mike Nolan beat William Howells down the wing and squared the ball back for Rivera to get his second.

The Child Labourers team have now not won a U21 tournament game for eight years after going 0-1-2 in U21WC6.

GRAHAM CITY SUN - U-21 Stars stun group favorites and essentially clinch place in the finals

TOTAL 'n UTTER INSANITY - The Junior Stars beat the Bedistani Cbus yesterday to essentially seal their spot in the next round of competition. With this team being the first one the Allied States have fielded internationally, and the expectations were rather low. Being one of the most respected full sides around, the JStars knew that they probably would be at the bottom of the pile. Not so this time around apparently, and we're all glad it.

The game began with the Cubs coming out with their expected dominance of the Allied States. The Bedistanis had some excellent chances on keeper Norman Hitt, but he turned them away with frightening speed. The tides began to slowly turn after the initial burst of offence from the Cubs, and the Stars began to adapt their play to compensate for the experience and prowess of the Cubs. The Stars began to equalize the pressure, and soon gained an advantage by the end of the half.

Now, to the Cubs credit, this game we should not have won, but Margaret seemed to favor us for some inescapable reason. The goal came on a corner kick, when Roy Hendrick played the ball beautifully into a crowd. The players in the box converged on the ball, and almost everyone lost sight of it. Outside the pack, lay Greg Palmer, who saw the ball squirt out on the right side. He charged and let loose his amazing cannon foot and put one into the net. The Stars celebrated wildly, and the legions of football fans who couldn't make the trip to Bedistan for the World Cup erupted into a glorious fountain of happiness. The Bedistanis were deflated majorly after that goal, and lost their hearts after it. Their half-hearted attempts to score were easily repulsed by the JStars defenders, who when the whistle sounded, lifted Palmer on their shoulders to signify their first international victory.

TEN Gets Win In U21
New Star Fredrico Grania Scores Only Goal

The U21 Strike Birds were able to see a flash of brillinace asn striker Fredrico Grania and Keeper Progeny Belorna Boyd combined with their teammates to gain a 1-0 win in MatchDay 1 in U21 Group Play. A second win in the group play can get the Nest to The Round of 16, where they traditionally lose If they make it that far.

The Nest FA is quite pleased with this years team, and do plan to release a full roster shortly. The Nest FA had treaditionally not released names due to the fact that well, the U21 team usually played like crap. This team has some potential and may be able to progress in this year's tournament.

Don: and now we turn back home for a moment, to LSPN reporter Max Rickles, for a breaking story out of Legalese City. Max?

Max: Don, we have big news out of the capital, from the Legalese Supreme Court. They have just ruled that the Legal Eagles may now travel again, the result of negotiations with the head of the supporters, who goes by the the alias Robbie Rapture.
The full agreement was not available at press time, but the concessions included:

-the Eagles registering with the LAFC, becoming the official supporters club of all Legalese National Soccer Teams, including the u21s currently in Total n Utter Insanity.
-The Legal Eagles will also register upon traveling to a country for any competition. Any problems like the “Legally Orange-Blue” incident in Rejistania will result in a revocation of the passports of anyone from the Eagles involved.
-The Legalese government will support the Legal Eagles in their efforts to support the Black and Red on the road. It is anticipated that the proceeds from this financial package, which is expected to pass through the Legalese Parliament tomorrow, will go towards both travel costs, as well as to hire someone to make up some “cool chants” for the supporters.
-Lastly, the name for the Supporters’ head, Robbie Rapture, would become his real name- sort of. To show his sincerity in making a deal, Rapture legally changed his name to Margaret R. Rapture. When asked about this portion of the deal, Rapture responded, “Hey, it worked for Druidia.”
That’s the story from Legalese City. Back to you, Don.

Don: Thank you Max. With two matchdays to go, Legalese faces an important match with Bedistan. With both teams currently winless after matchday one, a win would ensure the hopes of the other, while a loss would make it nearly, if at all, impossible for the team to advance. Meanwhile, on the other side of the group, Maserrat and The Lowland Clans will face off for the chance to advance. What do you think about this, Jim?

Jim: There is no underscoring the importance of this match for the Black and Red. Bedistan has a strong side, and their loss to The Lowland Clans was shocking. Thankfully, this does show that they are vulnerable. I’m going out on a limb, and hoping that with the power of Margaret, Legalese will pull off a victory here, coupled with a draw between Maserrat and The Lowland Clans, which will allow Legalese to control their own destiny on the final day.

Don: The power of Margaret? I didn’t know you practiced.

Jim: Oh, I was just talking about Margaret Rapture…

Junior Stars slump in loss

The Sarzonian Under 21 national team found the going much tougher in its second match of the group stage against Liverpool England. The new, more defense-oriented style of the Junior Stars led to an easy win in the first match, but the offensive firepower wasn't there in a 2-1 loss that forces the Stars to win their last match or be eliminated from the World Cup.

"We just didn't get the offense working the way we had it in the past," Coach Terry Mangione said. "We've got to make sure we win this next match or it's all over for us."

Liverpool England's Abel Turran opened the scoring for Liverpool England when he faked goalkeeper Horace Sandt out with a double-move and tapped a shot behind Sandt for a 1-0 lead 28 minutes into the match.

"I just committed too early," Sandt said. "That's a mistake I never should have made."

Liverpool England's 16-year-old phenom Jimmie Trevor made it 2-0 in the second minute of stoppage time before halftime when he dribbled into the Sarzonian 18 yard box and fired a shot off the right woodwork and into the net past a diving Sandt.

The Junior Stars got one back in the 55th minute from the spot when Trevor fouled midfielder Valentin Kienzl just outside the 6 yard box and forward John Clinton converted the penalty.

"We weren't able to generate anything in the run of play. Our only chance came from a dead ball situation," Mangione said. "We must do better when we don't have set pieces or it's going to be all over for us."

Good evening, and welcome to SNBC Sportstime.
Our top story, as Sanctaphrax U21 get their first point in the tournament, but it wasn't enough to see them through. The 4-4 draw almost puts Sanctaphrax out of the running, 3 points behind FmjPhoenix. Fmj have a +3 goal difference, Sanctaphrax a -1. Still, Sanctaphrax's remaining game is against Audioslavia, the seeds but they have been slightly out of form lately. The goal scoring went like this.
7, Eftilix Granilius, a great shot on his U21 debut. The ball was crossed in, and he met it with a beautiful diving header.
30, Fmj, a good strike by their winger, who cut in and shot from just outside the area, the strike was punched away Jerimous Scalious but only as far as the penalty spot, where their striker was waiting to tap the ball in unopposed.
39, Fmj, a blunder by Ralis Grenix inside the area cost him both a yellow card, and a penalty. The penalty was converted with ease, even though a player of Fmj was injured in the foul leading up to it.
45+, Fmj, Ralis was nervous, and slipped, letting the opposing player get into a one-on-one situation with Jerimous, in which he had no chance.

Half-Time
subs,
Herus Derilix on
Ralis Grenix off

57, Jon Falious, a scrap inside the penalty area, somehow Jon's foot connected to the ball to poke it past the keeper.
68, Fmj, their last goal of the evening, Jerimous Scalous recieved a poor pass back, which an fmj player intercepted. He went around the keeper and scored in an open net.
75, a punch up outside the fmj area started by fmj led into a full 10-10 brawl. In total, one red was given to each side, including one for Draius Anix, for punching a player.
75, Jon Falious, A great strike from the free-kick curled past the keeper, who never even saw it.
90+, Jerimous Scalious a last gasp corner, and a last gasp effort to save his team, Jerimous Scalious went up. The corner came in and Jerimous was easily taller than anyone there. The ball glanced in off his head to earn them a small glimmer of hope.

Overall, well played Sanctaphrax, and better luck next time. We'll bring you replays of the last match tomorrow, on SNBC sportstime.

Third Time Unlucky but Starblaydia Still through
Kylaai loss gives Starblaydia imperfect Record, still look the best team in the Tournament so far

Starblaydia have finished Top of Group G and will now face the Second-Placed team in Group E. We know the scoreline in the Druida/Oceaice match was 2-1, but there are confused reports as to which team won. Either way, Starblaydia finish 1st in Group G and move on.

Marco Del Blanco scored his third goal in three games and Iskara Daii team-mate Jaime Majeed chipped in with another, but ultimately Starblaydia lost 3-2.

Group E looks like a real mystery ans any one of The Lowland Clans, Bedistan or Maserrat could easily progress in any other group, though one must fall at this stage. At the moment, with just two games played, Bedistan are the most likely opponent, though things may easily change. Starblaydia were knocked out at the Quarter-Final stage by Bedistan in the 6th Under-21 World Cup as penalties decided the Semi-Finalist on that occasion.

Group G Table

Druida 2 1 0 1 5 4 1 3

Maserrat 0-3 Bedistan

It was as we had feared. A Bedistan side embarrassed by their opening day defeat came to Maserrat rejuvenated and out to prove a point. They did so in style, beating the Dynamos 3-0. What with The Lowland Clans beating Legalese, putting them through, it is now a race for second place between Bedistan and Maserrat, with Bedistan the favourites to come out on top. Maserrat must beat The Lowland Clans and hope that Legalese can get something against Bedistan. If Maserrat do worse than or get the same result as Bedistan, the Dynamos will finish third for the fourth tournament in a row, despite being tenth seeds. Once again, it seems that the Dynamos have been cheated by other results not going their way.

"I really can't believe it. [said Gresko after the match] Once again Bedistan have seemingly dumped us out of this cup. Most teams would surely have qualified for the latter stages after four attempts. It just seems to be our extremely bad luck, and I don't see why this black cloud has decided to settle over us. If it does not leave soon and settle over somebody else, I think I may just have to get the lawyers out to make sure there's no conspiracy going on around here!"

It seems that Gresko is not best pleased by results so far, and it is seemingly understandable. In the past two tournaments, both tenth seeds (Krytenia and Crystilakere) have made it through, and whilst this is no guarantee that Maserrat would have made it through, it seems very unlikely that they wouldn't have. After four tournaments, and what looks like four third-place finishes, the conspiracy theories will be flying, and whilst no-one is quite sure what is going on, there is no doubt that the team and the staff are by no means to blame for how things keep turning out. Whilst tomorrow could still provide some surprises, Maserrat fans should prepare for the worst (once again).

The "Lucky Sevens", as the press have deemed to nickname the Under 21 Insanician Team, managed an easy 4-0 victory over flailing D2R. This added with their 7-1 and 7-2 victories puts them well into the second round with a GD of 15 from only 3 games. Critics of the team, though few and far between, have commented on the weakness of the teams played so far. The defences of the 3 weak teams played so far offered little resistance to this new style of play. However I highly doubt this system would work against the ultra-defensive and god awfully boring Rejistanians. The optimistic and heavily drunk fans beg to differ.

Reporter: Hejida Jetta'he!

Jisu Jetta: Hejida!

Reporter: Do you think the young Orange-Blues succeeded until now?

Jisu Jetta: This is again a new team... we do not have too much experience internationally despite that, we are 2-1-0 in the group, most likely through, that means. This is a great success, it always is.

Reporter: What is your prediction for the rest of the cup?

JJ: I have no problems with predictions unless the future is concerned.

Reporter: That means you will not predict anything?

JJ: I predict that anything can happen... You know, I experienced how predictions can be a curse.

Reporter: Jentu Minikse is one of the more controversal players in the team, according to outsiders, is that right?

JJ: Jentu Minikse? I think his problem is merely all the dirt, reporters dig up about him. He had some private problems and the media only increased them.

Reporter: I will respect that and not ask further.

JJ: That is what I wanted you to do.

Reporter: The tactic against the Tadjiks was highly defensive and led to a scoreless draw, would you in review say it was a right decision?

JJ: International Rejistanian soccer is highly defensive, you know that, but despite that very successfull. I think it is a success not to have lost.

Reporter: No loss is also a win?

JJ: Exactly.

Reporter: Another question: You are coaching the respective young Orange-Blues for 28 years. Do you think of retiring?

JJ: Why should I?

Reporter: Maybe due to high age? Only as an example...

JJ: I might remind you that I was coach of a 4th league club in Giant Zucchini...

Reporter: And you still have water from the land of Zucchinis?

JJ: I will not tell you (he smiles)

Reporter: Okay, I will assume on my own...

JJ: That is your job and now excuse me, I have to get back to the team.

How Low can you go?
Legalese falls 2-0 to The Lowland Clans; needs very specific, highly unlikely circumstances to advance.

Legalese’s chances of advancing in the u21 World Cup have hit the barely nil point, as the Black and Red fell to the Lowland Clans by a 2-0 result. Christopher Wiley and Gary Goodson recorded the tallies for Lowland.

The result, coupled with a 3-0 victory for Bedistan over Maserrat, results in The Lowland Clans nabbing one of the two spots out of Group E. Bedistan and Maserrat are now tied for the second spot with three points apiece, with Bedistan up by 4 goals in differential. Legalese sits with no points, and -3 in differential, 5 goals less than Bedistan.

In other words, Legalese’s only chance to advance is through the following scenario: Legalese defeats Bedistan by three goals, while The Lowland Clans comes through with a perfect record in group play, by defeating Maserrat. The end result would be a three-way tie for the last spot into the next round, with Legalese nabbing it on Goal Differential. Other than that, any other situation (excepting a nuclear apocalypse during the TLC-Maserrat match) will send the Black and Red youth home.

Arizmendi gives Kitties Hope

--------------Last minute squad addition Tulio Arizmendi, the 18 year old Utility Defender from Strike FC lifted the Vilita Jungle Kitties to a late 4-3 victory over rivals Crystilakere in the third and final match of their Group Stage. The Jungle Kitties now await the result of the Aquiliana-Esth matchup, with any result for Aquiliana seeing Vilita through to the next round. Vilita's victory over Crystilakere sees the Crystils out at the first hurdle for the first time in a while, and restores a shred of decency from the recent Vilitan shortcomings against their once laughable Eastern Neighbors.

The Jungle Kitties were previously held to a 1-0 defeat by Esth, which has placed them in this precarious position. It is the first time that a Vilitan side has faced Esth, and they vow to retake their position as Under-21 Stronghorses, despite never being able to emulate the success of the original unranked Vilitan Success in the 3rd Under 21 Championships. This of course, dependant on a favorable result in the match between Aquiliana and Esth.

18 Year Old Tulio Arizmendi was called into the squad prior to the Crystilakere match after the flu bug ripped through the locker room. Having never seen a game for his club side, some were skeptical on the selection of the Powerful youth, but he has quickly dampened the cries of his critics with his showing against the arch Rivals.

It is also believed that Arizmendi is still available for a free transfer from Strike FC, although they may be requesting a sell-on clause for the now international defender.

Nana Rej came back from school, which again was terribly slani. When she did, her Mum was in a bad mood. That was nothing new, since her husband Siki disappeared, her mood often is bad. Nana again decided to get away from this slani, but she did not want to risk another confrontation with Mum. Due to this, she climbed up the attic and wanted to crawl over the roof to the neighbors. It is not that Haki, the neighbors' daughter minds, in contrary: she uses the same method to escape family trouble, only crawls in the other direction. Due to Nana's anger, one of the boxes in the attic recieved a hard kick. In the moment when Nana kicked it, she started to shout, first because she forgot that she did not wear shoes and then in surprise because the box crashs open and huge amounts of paper are seen. Nana examines them, but can't make head or tails of it, then she saw the header of every page: "HEXATUX 2"

"Errr. Hexatux 2 is in the cellar of the ASR"

"Exactly."

TLC A 'Must Win'

Once again, Maserrat has found itself in a situation they did not expect to find themselves in. Condemned to a dog-fight with a stronger team because of one match that didn't even involve them, they must win and hope today or face up to another third-place finish.

"The pressure is mounting. Our fate is in one of our hands, but the other does not belong to us. We know that we have to do better than Bedistan to progress, and this means that Legalese have to do us a massive favour today. I, however, cannot see Bedistan not winning. Nevertheless, we must do ourselves proud by winning against TLC - it is our only chance of going through. Never before has one match not involving us mattered so much to the people of Maserrat. I beg them to keep an ear to the ground, and encourage us when things are going our way. We're going to need our twelth man if we are to get through this day unscathed - let's hope he's there in full force."

Maserrat have been in this situation before. In U21WC5 they finished third in their group on goal difference only, and whilst the situation has subtle differences this time, the fundamentals are still the same: win and pray.

Jeruselem beat big-egoed Big Pimento 2-0 to be undefeated with Cockbill Street while the other two teams have no points. The U-21 team which was really the U-19 team, showed their youth was no hinderance to progressing to the next round. "We are inspired by the World Cup team, we want to be be the best U21 team here" a team member said.

The big game which determines two will be first is Jeruselem vs Cockbill Street while the other teams are playing a dead game as it has no effect on the top two. Jeruselem has a good history in U21 making the finals except for two championships with two finals appearances.

This, is SNBC sportstime, good afternoon Rob, what are the main headlines?

Yes, good afternoon, Sanctaphrax U21 have bowed out of the world cup, the team played well against Audioslavia, but were unlucky to pick up only one point.
The first half was largely uneventful, with only one shot by Jon Falious hitting the post, but the rebound by Andrius Lodd went sailing over the bar.

Sanctaphrax came out of the dressing room rejuvenated, and almost instantly a header from a corner went just over the bar. They almost scored again several minutes later but the shot by Jon Falious was punched over the bar by the Audioslavia keeper.

Audioslavia counter-attacked and Sanctaphrax were left with only 2 players and the keeper. Some slick passing out to the wing and the ball was crossed in by the winger. The ball missed both of the Sanctaphrax players and the keeper and fell to the Audioslavia player, who tapped it in with ease. He was then ruled to be offside and the goal was disallowed.

Sanctaphrax took heart from this and broke away, the ball was laid back to captain Andrius Lodd, who smashed it ruthlessly into the top corner.

Sanctaphrax were looking certain to win, until news came of the other final score. Fmj had drawn, and Sanctaphrax were out. Audioslavia took advantage of the Sanctaphrax loss of heart and scored again, this time though, it stood.
Bad luck and better luck next time boys. Thank you for following this World Cup, with the Sanctaphrax News Broadcasting Co and we'll see you next time.

Thank you Rob, and bad luck Sanctaphrax.

Aquiliana Advances For The First Time!
Convincingly defeat Esth, 3-1

All they needed was a point, so they decided to pick up 3.

The Falcons just came out and crushed Esth Sunday night, with Damián D'Alessandro scoring an early goal off a rebound and Noria following up with 2 more to seal the victory early in the second half. Aquiliana was dominant not only throughout the match, but the entire group stage, picking up 7 of a possible 9 points to win the group.

In the second round, Aquiliana will face Turori, unranked in this tournament. Howver, Aquiliana is ranked near the bottom, so you never know which team will be able to pull this one out.

Don: Welcome to Soccer Night in Legalese. Don Donaldson here with my colleague, Jim Jameson. Sadly, this will be the last soccer night from Total n Utter Insanity, as the Black and Red fell to Bedistan by a 2-0 result, as you just saw here on LSPN.

Jim: That's right, Don. It was an utter trouncing for the Legalites. They were unable to score a goal throughout the entire group phase, leading to their demise.

Don: Now, we can take a look at the Second Round draw, set to take place after the TnUI ministers get settled in their new home. Let's take a look at the draw. Who do you like, Jim?

Jim: Well, I would take the favorites, Rejistania, but that side of the bracket looks especially difficult. A win over a young Fmjphoenix squad, already experienced from their dual role as the Senior National Team in both the Baptism of Fire Cup, as well as in the World Cup Qualifying, would have to be followed by a battle in the quarterfinals against the Bedistanis, who came in with a surprising loss in group E, but came out strong, winning the group. The winner of that eventual semi-final matchup looks to be favored to win the u21 title.

Don: I can't disagree with you there. Well, I could, but I won't.
Now, as for the other side of the bracket, we have a few interesting matchups. What should be interesting is the battle between the hosts, ranked 7th in the world, and 6th-ranked Vilita, in the round of 16. That's what we would call an "Anne Heche" match, as it could swing either way.

Jim: Indeed, Don. But if you think about it, all of these matches are going to be close, most likely. That said, I'm looking at Sarzonia to be in a good position, if they can make it past the Streetians. It'll be up to see how strong Cockbill is.

Don: and with that, we'll take a break. Coming up: An intereview with Margaret Rapture... was the name change worth it?

Stars win 2-0, return to knockout stage

The Sarzonian Under 21 national team was facing a do-or-die match for the right to advance to the knockout stages once again. The team has faced that situation in three of their first four appearances in the Under 21 World Cup and advanced in each of the previous two times.

The Junior Stars continued that streak with a 2-0 win over Kaze Progressa in a match Coach Terry Mangione called "an important one for our program."

Forward John Clinton scored both Stars goals, with the first coming from the spot in the 28th minute after a Progressan defender fouled midfielder Valentin Kienzl in the box.

"That was a tough foul call," Clinton said. "It could have gone either way, but I'm glad it went our way."

Clinton and Kienzl would figure in the second Junior Stars goal when Kienzl won a corner kick in the 67th minute and sent it toward Clinton. The ball almost seemed to be magnetically attracted to Clinton, and he skied for a header that effectively put the match out of reach for Kaze Progressa with the sterling play of goalkeeper Horace Sandt.

Sandt notched four saves, only one of them even moderately difficult, for his fourth shutout all time and his second of this tournament.

"Sandt's tough to beat," Kienzl said. "He's going to be a tougher nut to crack when we start tightening up on defense."

The Junior Stars face Cockbill Street in the second round, with the team calling that match "brutal."

"It's not going to be a cakewalk for our guys," Mangione said. "They scored 10 goals in three matches. Our defense is going to have to shut down their attack and we're going to have to get our attack going to get the result."

Vilitan Joy at Kylaai Win

--------------As the final whistle blew on the Jungle Kitties hard-faught 4-3 victory over Crystilakere, which saw them through along with Aquiliana in an Atlantian Oceania rout of the group, Vilitan fans had more than one reason to celebrate.

As the score came in from the Starblaydia-Kylaai matchup, The Cup of Harmony holders upset the highly ranked Bladei Under-21 side. This result prevented the less than spectacular, certainly not the best team in the tournament Starblaydia from carrying an undeserved unbeaten record into the second round. Starblaydia has had a history of success in the Under-21's, well, at least when compared to the Vilitan History.

Since being an unranked finalist in World Cup Under 21 Championships III, The top 6 ranked Vilita have failed to make even the Semi Finals, but can only take pride in watching their rivals fail. They got a welcome triple helping on Matchday 3, with results going against Crystilakere and Starblaydia, as well as puppet rivals Oddslavo.

Vilita now face off against hosts Total n Utter Insanity, in a repeat of the last time Vilita progressed past the second round, however, confidence is low and many expect this to be another year of failure for the Jungle Kitties.

Allied States Stand in the Way
Second-Round Bogey Team for Starblaydi U21s?

As we correctly predicted, Starblaydia progressed to the Second Round of the 7th Under-21 World Cup for the fourth time in five tournaments. Though they blotted their copy-book (and enthralled Vilitans) by losing 3-2 against Kylaai, Starblaydia may have taken some of the pressure off themselves. Seeded third in the Championship, Starblaydia are out to prove themselves worth of a title at this level.

In their way lie The Lowland Clans, who insist on calling themselves The Allied States for some reason, who Starblaydia have never beaten, let alone scored a goal against, in three attempts.

World Cup 15 Cup of Harmony:
The Lowland Clans 3-0 Starblaydia

International Recreation Cup:
Starblaydia 0-2 The Lowland Clans

World Cup 17 Finals, Group F:
Starblaydia 0-1 The Lowland Clans

By this sequence of results, a 0-0 draw would be in order. Results, however, rarely form any kind of a sequence on a graph. Execpt those three, of course.

Apologies for not RPing yet, my internet was down the entier weekend and I am typing this from school.

Fmjphoenix goes 1-2-0 in three games in U21WC7, prepares to face #1 ranked Rejistania in 2nd round

With a unexpected win against Audioslavia and a draw against both Sanctaphrax and The Eagles Nest, Fmjphoenix found themselves in second place in Group H with 5 total points and a modest 1-2-0 record for the first round. Now comes the tough challenge of facing the #1 ranked Rejistania team.

If the team wants to win, it will have to keep the ball in Rejistania territory for as long as possible. Look for the the green-orange colors to be flying all over trying to keep it close to move on further in the knockout stage.

TLC 1-3 Maserrat

This article could probably have been called 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly'. The Good, the Dynamos convincing 3-1 win over TLC (already qualified), proving that they had what it took for them to qualify for the second round. The Bad, Bedistan's victory over Legalese that led to Maserrat being dumped out of the tournament prematurely. The Ugly, Slobodan Gresko as he spoke to the press after the match:

" We should have qualified. Six points would have been enough for any other team in any other group in this tournament. In the end, our fate was out of our hands, through no fault of our own, as we waited for the Bedistan score. Once again, they have, this time indirectly, knocked us out of this tournament. Our performance today was good, very good. I cannot fault the players under the circumstances. Everybody is naturally devastated that, because of one result on Matchday 1, we have not progressed."

Conspiracy theorists have pounced on Bedistan, who they believe to have fixed the match against TLC to ensure that both of them got through at the expense of Maserrat. Of course, nobody listens to them, and everybody will just be rueing the team's bad luck in this competition. Next time they must surely qualify for the next round. They are pretty much guaranteed to be seeded in the top eight (currently they are seeded second in the world), which would mean being favourites in whatever group they are in. No doubt, we will try to stay as high up that table as possible, although we will be at a slight/large disadvantage, in that everybody else who could be there has qualified for the next round, giving them more opportunity to get points. We said this at the end of the last tournament, but surely there is NO WAY the team can't do better next time. SURELY!

Hat-trick hero destroys Cockbill Street

U21 and U19 Midfielder Al Fadar is unknown all in Jeruselem until today. Playing for the Beersheba United U21s and now the Jeruselem U21s, he hasn't done much to attract attention. In a game against Cockbill Street who managed 6-0 win earlier, the game would be close. Not according to Fadar, we scored his first hat trick ever to nail Cockbill street 3-1 and give Jeruselem 1st position in Group D. Cockbill was 2nd and progressed as well.

Fadar could not be contacted for an interview as he is camera shy. Instead his Mom talked to us "He is good boy and God blessed him today. He play super game and score tree goals for our nation. I hope play next game too.".

4th seeded Jeruselem meet 13th seed Kaze Progressa in the next round. If Jeruselem had lost, they would have played the stars, Sarzonia, who Cockbill are playing instead.

TnUI meet Vilita in a game to watch. DotF will cover this game on the soccer channels as well the Jeruselem game. Jeruselem meet the winner of this game if it wins and has a good record against Vilita compared to TnUI.

Sarzonia not expecting easy 'Street'

The Sarzonian Under 21 national team began the final stages of preparation for their second round match against Cockbill Street with a challenge. They had no tapes of 11th seeded Cockbill Street's prior matches in the 'Cup.

"We don't know the names of the players or their style of football," Coach Terry Mangione said. "Right now, our advanced scout on Cockbill Street is our VCR. It's making it very difficult to mimic their style in scrimmages."

Some pundits argue that the Junior Stars shouldn't worry. They are the fifth seed in this tournament and have possible dates with unseeded Turori or 15th seeded Aquiliana in the quarterfinals, with the highest possible seed in their bracket being fourth seeded Jeruselem. But don't tell that to the Junior Stars.

"They've scored 10 goals in three matches," goalkeeper Horace Sandt said. "Our defense is going to have to step it up to make sure we're not one of their victims."

Sandt has registered two clean sheets in this World Cup and has all four of the Junior Stars' shutouts in World Cup play. After a disasterous first World Cup appearance in World Cup 4, Sandt has steadied himself and the rest of the team after winning the job from Brian Tawes.

"Horace has played like an experienced keeper," senior national team Coach Dave Wilson said. "He and ["B" national team goalkeeper John] Bartlett have really created a logjam situation behind [starting goalkeeper Troy] Perkins. It's great to see."

The Junior Stars will look to get the combination of midfielder Valentin Kienzl and forward John Clinton working again like they did against Kaze Progressa in the team's 2-0 win that clinched the Group B championship and the date with Cockbill Street for Sarzonia. They'll also look to lower Sandt's 0.67 goals against average and continue to play the solid defense that marked group play in this tournament.

"We've played well defensively and we're making progress offensively," Mangione said. "We still need to take that next step to make sure we play world class football now that the knockout stages are here."

The Nest has been amazing this campaign making the U21 round of 16 for the first time in 3 tries. The nest has never made it past the round of 8, winning in the Round of 16 only once out of 3 tries.

The team seems focused and prepared, their first match against Finrods, a surprise qualifier to the Knockout rounds. If they win they should play Starblaydia, a team that the National Team tied today in World Cup action.

'Street' a dead end for Sarzonia

The Sarzonian Under 21 national team came into the seventh World Cup with hopes of winning a championship with a more defensive-oriented style of play and outstanding play from goalkeeper Horace Sandt. They were expecting a good test from Cockbill Street and clear sailing to the final.

However, Cockbill Street put a serious dent into the Stars' celebration plans and three goals behind a stunned Sandt and defeated Sarzonia 3-1 to knock the team out of the tournament in the second round for the third time in four appearances.

"There's no way to describe this, except to say it was a bitter pill to swallow," Coach Terry Mangione said. "We thought we were past our inability to advance in this tournament and we suddenly got an education tonight."

The Stars' defense, which earned two clean sheets in the group stages, betrayed Sandt as Cockbill Street fired 25 shots, including 11 on goal. Sandt made several acrobatic stops and essentially kept the team in the match singlehandedly.

"We just didn't give Horace enough support," midfielder Valentin Kienzl said. "We failed in all phases of the game except for the goalkeeper."

"I'd have liked to have had all three goals back," a despondent Sandt said. "I take the blame for all of them."

The only highlight for the Stars was forward John Clinton's goal from the spot that cut Cockbill Street's lead to 2-1 just before first half injury time ended. Before then, the defense played as if it were a pre-teen side instead of an Under 21 national team that was expected to do great things.

Mangione said he would put the team's original attacking offense back in for the next World Cup, pronouncing the team's efforts to play more conservatively "a bitter failure.

"We're going to have to go back to the drawing board," Mangione said.

Allied States no Match for Azanulbizarn-inspired Starblaydia U21s

As Starblaydia's young-un's took their foot off the pedal their Second-Round match with The Allied States, a curious chant echoed around the Isanician stadium, which went a little something like this:

His name is Khi-im,
He isn't Sli-im,
His beard is in need of a tri-im,
He's four feet se-ven,
He comes from hea-ven...

This, seemingly, is the first chant about a Dwarven player ever in the history of Starblaydi Football. Khim has also become the first Dwarf to score for Starblaydia, as he bagged the second goal of the game just before half-time.

Marco Del Blanco also kept up his more-than impressive record of a goal a game with his fourth of the tournament. Onward, Starblaydia!

Luck runs out for the Lucky Sevens

The critics were proved right as the Insanicians faced their toughest defence to date playing against the Villians in the second round. The Villlians managed to dominate much of the early play, taking advantage of a spate of gaps at the back going up 3-0 in the first 30 minutes. Things went from bad to worse as a midfield brawl broke out reducing both teams by 3 men just shy of halftime. The Insanicians had no choice but to change their formation, not that it had been working so well against the Villians organized defence. Both teams managed to grab a goal in the second half to leave the deficit at 3 and the Villians going through.

Phoenix falling

The young Orange-Blues defeated the upstarts from FMJPhoenix by a lucky 2:0. The Phoenices were dominating the match for large parts of the match, but the Orange-Blue defense handled all chances, they had. Coach Jisu Jetta and co-coach Hexatux 2 (or maybe it was the otherway around) decided for a System Jesejil (5-4-1), while the Phoenices play an attacking 4-3-3. The first chance in the match was for the Phoenices was in the 5th minute. Trinidad Nmeno managed to outsmart Xykianaran player Jare Kedi and was in good position, Manu Tesde managed to clear to a corner kick with a lot of luck and Carlos Santos's corner kick was headed out of the fighting zone by Nena Su. In the 36th minute, after some other chances of the Phoenices, Jentu Minikse exploited a misunderstanding in the FMJPhoenix defense and shot, only hit the crossbar, but the ball bounced into play and was reflected at the back of Bobby Bash into the goal. the rest of the match saw an Orange-Blue team concentrating on defending the lead. In the 85th minute, however, Jentu Minikse had another good chance in a counter attack, and this time, the former national player could shoot past goalkeeper Powell Lamar and extend the lead to 2:0, which also was the final score.

The result:
Rejistania 2 (Bash 37th(og), Minikse)

*The Druida Under-21 team have arrived back home after their disaster at the U21 World Cup. Their now sacked coach, who is an unnamed helper of President Margaret Smith, is back doing his normal job.*

Unnamed helper: "So have you got us a new manager, then?"

President Smith: "I most certainly do!"

Unnamed helper: "So who is it then?"

President Smith: "Well, I was going to leave the appointment to Trevor Kallins, but then I thought of a better idea."

Unnamed helper: "Go on."

President Smith: "Well, you know we got those two big vegetable type things... what are they called?"

Unnamed helper: "Giant Zucchinis."

President Smith: "That's them. Well, we got them because their nation had vanished."

Unnamed helper: "Oh, no. I think I know what's coming."

President Smith: "What?"

Unnamed helper: "You've gone and adopted Mr. Hurr, haven't you?"

President Smith: "What? No, no. What I've done is gone and got another player from a former nation to help us."

Unnamed helper: "Oh yes? And who have you managed to get?"

President Smith: "I got this Brazillican called Guy Santos. Great reputation, cheap as chips. I really don't know how I find these bargains, I really don't."

Unnamed helper: "Er, sir... there's a slight problem with that."

President Smith: "There is?"

Unnamed helper: "Um, I don't know how to say this, but Guy Santos won't be coming here."

President Smith: "Well, why not? I've already paid his agent a shedload of cash for him."

Unnamed helper: "Sir, Guy Santos was killed in a car crash in Melmond a few years ago. That's why he won't be coming."

President Smith: "Oh."

Unnamed helper: "So what are you going to do now?"

President Smith: "Well, I hear Halfassedstates isn't there anymore, we could plunder someone from there."

Unnamed helper: "Or you could actually stop stealing everyone else's characters and make someone up yourself!"

President Smith: "Excuse me?"

Unnamed helper: "Oooh, sorry sir. Just got you mixed up with someone else."

President Smith: "Oh. Perhaps I should leave the decision to Kallins."

Unnamed helper: "That would be a wise choice, sir."

Jeruselem into the U21 quarter finals again

Jeruselem beat Kaze Progressa 1-0 to progress into the U21 World Cup / Championship VII quarterfinals. The game was not be prettiest nor most skillful but the Squires narrow win continued Jeruselem's good form despite fielding a new team for the U21s. The winning goal was scored by 17 year old striker Dooney Goods.

Jeruselem meet Vilita or, God forbid, Total n Utter Insanity in the quarter final. Whoever it meets, it will not be an easy game. Jeruselem prefer Vilita.

Falcons Advance In a "Turoriable" Match
Newspaper Editor Reportedly Fired

In a match filled with seemingly millions of fouls and cards, Aquiliana proved to be just a little tougher than Turori, and were able to outlast their regional rivals, 1-0. Both teams earned a red card, with Aquiliana's representative being forward Coria Iussa.

However, Gemis Micolus, who substituted in for Daliandus Prutonis midway through the second half, took advantage of the fact that Turori had shifted a defender forward for offense and used his speed to break through the diminished defense and score the game's only goal.

Aquiliana will face Cockbill Street in the quarterfinals, both teams looking to bring their U21 teams up to the level of their national squads. Should be yet another great matchup.

Bedistan Cleared By Courts

Despite many people trying very, very hard to ignore the conspiracy theorists, it seemed that the only way to get them to shut up was to take Bedistan to court. Bedistan has, of course, been made a scapegoat for Maserrat's early exit after they lost 1-0 to TLC on the opening matchday, effectively condemning the Dynamos to third place. Bedistan, completely unaware of the charges brought against them by the conspiracy theorists, sent no representatives to Maserrat for the trial, bout in the end this made no difference to the result. With very little incriminating evidence, the judge threw the case out of court, and Bedistan were cleared of any charges. Whether the theorists will appeal against the result is as yet unknown, but one would hope they did not, so as to not risk any further embarrassment for the nation. Slobodan Gresko, a vital witness at the hearing, had this to say:

"I'm glad this mess has finally been sorted out. I did not believe for one second that it was anybody's fault that we went out - it just happens sometimes. Hopefully we can now put this behind us, and start preparing for the next tournament."

Maserrat will hopefully have broken through into the top eight of the world after this tournament, meaning they would secure a group of their own next time. Whether this helps them or not is still to be seen, but as we have witnessed in this tournament, a good ranking never guarantees success.

Fmjphoenix loss hits hard

Fmjphoenix played a tough game, but could not overcome an unlucky play that saw Bobby Bash's back gave Rejistania a 1-0 lead before the end of the half. The Vikings came back out strong, but just could not get anything going as the Rejistania defense was playing to frevorishly. Jentu Minikse ended all hopes of a comeback by putting one just past Powel Lamar to give Rejistania a 2-0 victory to send Fmjphoenix back home in its first outing in the U21WC.

Eagles cut down by Soaring Starblaydia
Chance for Semi-Final Vengance from last time

As Starblaydia eased their way into the Semi-Finals for the second time in five attempts, they knew they would be facing one of the only two teams in the Competition seeded higher than themselves.

Either defending Champions and best-in-the-world at Senior and Under-21 level Rejistania, or the second-seeded team that knocked Starblaydia out at the Quarter-Final stage on Penalties four years ago. That match ended Starblaydi hopes of a second consecutive Semi-Final appearance with a dreaded Penalty Shootout, which Starblaydia appear to be awful at, if their training sessions are anything to go by.

Two Notable Notes in today's game were that Marco Del Blanco netted for the fifth straight game and must surely be in line for the Golden Boot. Young Nick Matranga, sixteen year-old son of former Starblaydia Captain Aiden, also scored his first ever international goal, which makes it Five for the Matranga Family.

Cubs strong in U21 championship
A Bedistani football team makes the semis for the umpteenth time

TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY (SR) - After Bedistan's somewhat disheartening 1-0 loss to the Lowland Clans, akin to U21WC6's opening 4-0 loss to Jeruselem, the Cubs bounced back as expected by nearly everyone. They started off by showing the Maserratian team who was boss in a 3-0 victory, and then cruised to a 2-0 win over Legalese to secure a spot in the second round.

"Sure we got off to a shaky start," said U21 coach Henry Thoreau, "but just like last time, we proved that we still had our stuff."

For a couple weeks, there was some suspicion, mainly propagated by the Maserratian press, that the FAs of Bedistan and the Lowland Clans had conspired to have the Cubs lose their first match to TLC in order to mutually prevent Maserrat from progressing to the second round. In a press conference, BFA president Johnny Lewis vehemently denied such "dastardly scheming" and assured the world that the BFA would never use these "questionable tactics" for either the benefit of their own teams or the downfall of other teams. When questioned as to why he was at that moment wearing a small flag of the Lowland Clans on his left breast, Lewis quickly dismissed the question and concluded the conference.

After this came the real meat of the competition, the knockout rounds. Bedistan's first opponent was Oceaice, and for this match Thoreau chose to slant his starting lineup slightly forward to press for more attacks. This approach would ultimately be successful as the Cubs scored four goals, allowing only two for Oceaice.

A total of three yellow cards awarded to Bedistani players in that match meant that the Cubs would need to be careful in the quarterfinals. But that wasn't really a concern, as their opponent would be none other than Rejistania. Rejistania, of course, has arguably the best football program in the world, and they are world-renowned for their defensive style of football, known as System Karela after the club from which it originated, Karela lines. And indeed Karela would make itself known during the match, as Bedistan could not mount any significant attacks on the Rejistanian goal due to there simply being nowhere to go. The Rejistanians were content to remain in their half of the pitch and did not pursue many attacks of their own, with the few that existed being quickly shot down by Norm Reagan, hailed by some as the best Bedistani goalkeeper since Olivia Bream. At full time, the score was nil-all, and the half hour of extra time would not change this as the Bedistani offense was now quite tired after ninety minutes of fruitless play. The match would end up going to a penalty shootout. Bedistani teams have been historically excellent at penalty shootouts; in fact, this reporter cannot recall a Bedistani team losing a single penalty shootout ever, and they've been in probably about half a dozen. As such, supporters were shocked when the Cubs missed their first shot, allowing the young Orange-Blues to take a 1-0 lead. But like that fluke match against TLC, the Cubs proved that opening penalty shot miss to be just as much of a fluke, and they would ultimately come away with a 3-2 victory.

"It is not easy to defeat Rejistania, on any level," said an ecstatic Thoreau after the match. "This win will do wonders for our morale and could possibly give us the boost we need to be the first ever back-to-back winners of the Under-21 World Cup."

The Cubs' next opponent is Starblaydia, whom we eliminated in the quarterfinals last time. Starblaydia will want revenge, but the Cubs are on a roll and not likely to stop any time soon.

In the first match quickly rising stars Aquiliana take on perennial underachievers Cockbill Street in what is sure to be an exciting and interesting match. The second match pits the dirty Villians against the lazy Jeruselemites. Whoever wins expect the Villians to pick up at least 3 cards. The bottom two matches have already been played with Bedistan grinding out a 0-0 draw with the Rejistanians unmovable defence, eventually winning on penalties and Starblaydia cruising to a 2-1 victory over TEN.

Never be trashed*
(rather lose by the smallest possible margin)

The your Orange-Blues were eliminated in the quarterfinal in penalty kicks. Co-coach Jisu Jetta blamed the Hexatux 2 for its highly defensive tactic. The Hexatux 2 commented: "Hexatux 2.0.3.beta, match data available: 128 matches" and apparently forgot to tell that most of these were Karela Lines matches.

The young Orange-Blues played during the regular time highly defensively even for their standards. An anonymous fan said: "We need the Hexatux 2 in Karela, we would end with 68 points and a goal difference of 0!" The cubs had no good chance to score in the entire match, the rejistanians had one single chance, which could be handled by the bedistani goalie Norm Reagan. As you might have imagined, the score after extra time was nil-nil Unfortunately, the tactic of not scoring in order not to concede can not help in penalty kicks. Xatiheriikosolanatedi Minkusyarusalyjihu was the first one to score. The Bedistani missed to make the score 1:0 for Rejistania. Unfortunately, Xkeliko Iti~n missed while the Bedistani equalised. Y Su and his Bedistani counterpart both scored. four penalty shots went wide and it came to the deciding 5th penalty kick. Jare Kedi was the one to shoot for the young Orange-Blues, but the Bedistani goalie could parry the shot. Unfortunately Minik Hisda couldn't do the same. He said later to reporters: "No comment! Time to get drunk on cheap abysmali booze!" Jare Kedi asnd many other rejistanis did the same.

Jungle cats roar to make U21 semis

Vilita beat Jeruselem 3-1 to win their U21 championship VII quarter final. Last years winner beat Jeruselem in a quarter final as well who happened to be Bedistan. Vilita showed why their thrashed TnUI 4-1 in the previous round and now look the favourite to win this U21 championship.

Despite the scoreline, Jeruselem did not play badly but the Vilita keeper frustrated the team all night. Vilita's attack as also sharp and on target with 3 goals and a warning to their next opponents Aquiliana (15) or Cockbill Street (11). With TnUI and Jeruselem out of way, 6th seeded Vilita look dangerous and ready to rock the tournament.

However, Bedistan and Starblaydia are the highest seeds left with Jeruselem out. Most predict Vilita vs Bedistan or Vilita vs Starblaydia final, but never write off any team who make the quarter finals.

Three-One Magic
First Godmods, Then Jers, Then Stars, Then Falcons

With four three-one results in the last possible matches, the Apprentices in Total n Utter Insanity are beginning to wonder when the tide will turn. Being on the wrong end of a 1-3 loss to al-Fadar of Jeruselem, who made a hat-trick, the Streetians have since overcome relatively light opposition in Sarzonia and Aquiliana by the 3-1 scoreline.

The Apprentices completely dominated the attacking part of the game - a relief to see given the dire efforts of the national team lately - and had an amazing 25 shots on goal during the match with Sarzonia, although the shooting mostly went awry. Three of them went in though - a beautiful long-range effort from 25 metres after a free-kick from Rhianna Peters, Har'dah'bath's soon-to-be-polished gem, Niall McLavish's dribble through the Sarzonian defence (or should that be defense there?) which ended in a shot that Sandt somehow fumbled into his own net for 2-0, and then the 3-1 goal which came after a corner - a complete mess in the box as none of the Sarzonian defenders managed to clear the ball off the line and Orpiment eventually got a toe on the ball to send it across the line.

The match against the Aquiliana Falcons was expected to be more even - the Falcons having a strong side dominated by young talent from Nidola and Nova Malta. Damián D'Allesandro, the 15-year-old defender with a lot of talent but less defensive skill, was the main danger, along with 20-year-old midfield star Noria.

Luckily for the Apprentices, they got off to a fabulous start. Attacking from the outset as usual, they got the first goal after only three minutes as Niall McLavish crossed to brother Phil, who headed the ball in for 1-0. After that early shock, Aquiliana never really fully recovered, and the Apprentices parked in their half for the next thirty minutes. Rhianna Peters really should have upped her goal-tally for the championship to five when she was clean through on goal after a pass from Galena, but her shot went into the post, and a free-kick from Alan Canning went just over the bar after forty-one minutes. However, in the last minute of the half Aquiliana got a counter-attack after Bitton gave a poor pass in his own half, Noria passed it forward long to Coria Iussa, who chested it down well and slotted it past Hidrich for 1-1. Unfair as though it seemed, the Streetians had to regroup.

They did so reasonably well - though Aquiliana were boosted by their early goal and could easily have scored 2-1 after seven minutes of the second half, but Thor Hammerhock came in with a saving tackle at the last minute. Instead, the Streeters again took control of the match, and it was only fair when a corner kick eventually ended up at twenty metres where Danny Carston loaded the cannon and blasted the ball into the top corner. 2-1 and the Apprentices were well on their way to the semi-finals. With nine minutes to go, Rhianna Peters finally scored her fifth goal of the tournament, as she was appointed to take the penalty when Alan Canning was fouled clean through on goal. Now, the young Jungle Cats awaits in the semi-final after they beat Jeruselem by (you guessed it) three-one, and the Apprentices can look forward to their toughest charge since the System Karela-and-Siki Rej-induced failure in U21WC5.

Cubs knock out Starblaydia Again
No Vengance for Starblaydis, except perhaps for those with longer memories

Though Marco Del Blanco confirmed his increasing reputation by scoring for the sixth match out of six in these Championships, two goals from George Washburn and Tim Veller sealed the victory for the Bedistanis in the Semi-Final of the 7th Under-21 World Cup. This is now the second time in two Cups that Bedistan's Cubs have dumped Starblaydia out of the knock-out stages.

Starblaydia have, like in the 5th Cup, been placed into the 3rd-Placed-Playoff match for the second time. Last time a lacklustre match saw Starblaydia win After Extra Time to take the Third Place. Anyone remember the team that put Starblaydia into the 3PPO in number 5? Well, for those of you who don't remember, it was Cockbill Street.

Anyone guess who we're playing in the 3PPO? That's right: Cockbill Street. Now where did I put my axe...?

Henry Thoreau, coach: "All right, all right, calm down. Good show out there today against Starblaydia, and good to see that you guys are in just as good form as your predecessors four years ago."

Washburn: "Come on, man, lighten up. It's not time for a lecture, it's time to freakin' CELEBRATE!"

[The players as a whole give a cheer.]

Thoreau: "Celebration is fine, but I am still obliged to remind you that we have one more match to go. The opponent is Vilita, one of the strongest footballing nations out there. Do not expect it to be an easy match, and do expect to have to do a pretty significant amount of training beforehand. I want--"

Kelly Bowden, midfielder: "Yes, Coach, we know all this. But if we work too much, we're not gonna be in good shape for the Vilita match because we'll all be too tired. And then we'll lose 9-0."

Thoreau: "You're not listening."

Tim Veller, striker: "You're not listening, either. Of course we'll do training. But for the sake of whatever deity you worship, loosen up a bit."

Thoreau: "I don't worship a deity."

Veller: "Point still stands."

Thoreau: "Like I was saying, meet me on the practice field at--"

Vengance for Starblaydis over Rivals Cockbill Street

Three goals to one flattered the Streeters as Starblaydia changed up a gear into cruise control. A Hammer from Captain Jerome Montefalcon and a record-equalling goal from Marco Del Blanco in the first half seemed to have put Cockbill Street to the sword.

Niall McLavish had other ideas in the second half, however, pulling one back for the Street. Starblaydia's win was rounded off by Dwarven left-back Khim Azanulbizarn, scoring against his race's ancient ancestral home.

Starblaydia have once more made the Third-Place of the Under-21 World Cup their home, living up to their seeding for once. Though the backbone of this team will have moved on when this competition comes around again in two years time, many of this team will still be available, ready to take on the world's best youngsters once again.

Vilita 0-0 Bedistan(FT)

--------------After 90 Minutes of Play in the Seventh World Cup Under 21 Championship Final, the teams were deadlocked at zero. Bedistan, a former winner of the Cup, and Vilita, runners up of the Third showing, but never making it as far as the Semi-Finals since, finally living up to their reputation. The match would go into extra time. The Jungle Kitties had already used all three of their substitutions, with Inaki Soler being removed at half time, replaced by Vilisorma Locals forward Alioum Konadu, with the Jungle Kitties taking a step forward into a 3-4-3 Attacking formation. Defensive-Minded midfielder Michele Mariano also made way on the hour mark for 16 year old Mauro Capuano of Turoki Isle. Vilita made their final change with 15 minutes remaining in the second half, with Powerful Attacking Midfielder Jacques Vintila making his final Under 21 appearance, receiving a round of applause before Marine Coast Uniteds "Star of the Future", 17 year old Maurizio Sala looked to make an impact in the closing stages of the matchup.

Apprentices Back On Track
Now We Even Lose To Starblaydia

After the Apprentices hit front-page headlines through a 3-1 defeat of Aquiliana, they crashed out in the semi-finals to the dominant Vilitans. A loss was, after all, expected, but to go down 0-5 to the Jungle Kittens was simply appalling. Complete mind-loss by the whole team led to an embarrassing 0-3 after only 20 minutes had gone, as the Streeters passed away the ball immediately after they won it. It was an appalling playing tactic, and it gave striker Carmine Mbidzo about forty-odd chances to score - as such, he made a proper hat-trick within 19 minutes of the first half, rounding it off with the 4-0 goal in the thirty-first.

Following up, the Streeters thought they had a chance of a medal playing Starblaydia in the third place play-off. But it was not to be. Khim Azanulbizarn, the first dwarf (yes, those dwarfs...the ones who split because of the Anglicisation-name Schism) ever to play for the Starblaydi, starred for the Starblaydis as he made the 3-1 goal just after Niall McLavish had given the Apprentices some hope.

The Streeters, again, will have to rebuild - hopefully some new talent will come out of this, given that the current crop has yet again underperformed badly.

Eels unphased by Early Exit

------------------The Turori Eels Under-21 team were left unphased by their early exit from the Under 21 World Championships. Eels Under-21 head coach Gisterfred Q. Disterfred has stated that he believes his team will be more than prepared to make a serious challenge in the 8th under 21 championships.

------------------"We've got a lot of players who were either too old or too young to compete with us this year. The older players will be moving on to tyrain with Mauritus Banda's National Team, while the younger lads will be well prepared and much better experienced to take a stab at a semi-final appearance the next time we visit Total n Utter Insanity."

------------------When asked who he felt would be the player to watch in Turori's drive for the next Under 21's, Disterfred was quick to single out one name.

------------------"I think Martiia Rawaii is going to be our most important player. He is moving to a new league and a new nation this season and he will be able to bring back that foreign experience and lead our team to what could be a memorable run in the eigth World Cup Under 21 Championships."

Matengu assumes Turori Nationality

------------------Former Vilitan Under-21 International has declared Turorian Nationality after being left out of the Vilitan Championship winning Under-21 Roster, watching "Younger, Inexperienced Player" lift the trophy in front of him. He will not be the first ever player who has chosen Turorian Nationality over Vilitan, Former Striker Mauritus Banda, older brother of Vilitan Legend Callum Banda, was an important part of the Eels rise from nothing to stardom in their early years. Banda led the team to the Baptism of Fire Cup championship as a player, and has since taken over the reigns as head coach of the National Team.

------------------Matengu will be hoping to make a similar impact, starting with Under-21 World Cup Nine, then hopefully into Banda's senior squad for the World Cup 19 Finals and beyond. The average age in Turori's starting National squad is approaching 30 at the moment and a push for youth throughout the Nation is being encouraged. The news of Matengu's nationality declaration will certainly be a boost to the program.

Rawaii off to Legalese

Leglaese Soccer Championships will open League Play after WC XVIII, sign Turorian Striker

Francis Town, Legalese

The Legalese Soccer House is abuzz, as the domestic club portion of the Legalese Association Football Confederation now has a new body to govern. The Legalese Soccer Championships, the first professional soccer league in Legalese, will begin play following the Cup of Harmony. Kyle Marsh, the former commissioner of Legalese Baseball, made the announcement, as the new Commissioner of the LSC.

"Soccer in Legalese is at the point where pro clubs will be supported by the populace" said Marsh. "We hope to have a successful run here, as the premier sporting spectacle in Legalese."

The initial format will call for eight teams to play a 28-match season, playing each team twice at home, as well as twice at home. The winner of the regular season will become the holders of the Shield of Justice. Meanwhile, a cup competition will also take place. The Confederation Cup will allow entries from amateur/semi-pro teams in the initial rounds, leading into a round of 16 with the LSC competitiors. Play will begin for the LSC teams after Matchday 6, with each subsequent round 6 matchdays later.

The stunning news turned out to be in the league's first player. Legalese City, named the first of the LSC Clubs, announced that they had agreed to terms with Turorian striker Martiia Rawaii. Rawaii, the 18-year old phenom, just completed a run with the Turori u21 National Team, and is expected to join Legalese City for training shortly.

Eels held by Eystrck Force

------------------The Turori Under-21 side travelled to Eystrck for an exhibition matchup against the Eystrck Force. The Force made an impact in the 3rd Eagles Cup after earning the Pre-WC17 Baptism of Fire Cup Trophy. Eystrck did not send a team to the Seventh Under-21 Championships, But arranged a friendly with the neighbors Turori following their early exit from the competition in hopes to keep their match fitness in tact. The match started off very fast paced with both sides getting clear chances on goal. Martiia Rawaii looked dangerous for Turori, and opened the scoring 15 minutes in on a close range header after a Maratima Tareak free kick. Rawaii doubled the Eels advantage 5 minutes later with a blistering 25 yard strike. However, Eystrck fought back to go into the half knotted at 2-2 after goals from Ettle Ramos and Turon Simone.

------------------The second half saw many substitutions and the pace of the game slowed considerably. However, Istro Vanning managed to put the Force ahead midway through the half to the delight of the small local crowd. However, the Eels fought back, and it was Debutant Julio Matengu who provided the equalizer off another Maratima Tareak free kick. The match ended after 80 minutes due to darkness at the non-lit stadium in small Eystrck.

Third Time Not So Much of a Charm
Cubs can't quite defend title in extra time

TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY -- After ninety minutes, the score was nil-all. Surely an under-21 championship final to be remembered as the Bedistan Cubs and the Vilita Jungle Kitties were fighting to the bitter end, the Cubs to defend their title and become the first team ever to win three U21 Cups, and the Kitties to take it from them.

Kelly Bowden was certainly the woman of the extra time period for Bedistan, as she made six crucial passes to the front line. Tim Veller and George Washburn were unable to make anything out of this, though. Every attack was thwarted by goalkeeper Jimmy Kater. It looked like the match would end up having to be decided by penalty kicks, which would've been good for the Cubs, as Bedistan has historically been excellent in penalty shootouts. It wouldn't quite get there, though. Just as the fourth official was signaling for three minutes of injury time, Vilitan striker Carmine Mbidzo took a random shot that he really didn't expect to be worth anything. Goalkeeper Nick Reagan parried the shot, but Mauro Baraza was right there, and he made use of his reflexes to send the ball in for 1-0. After this, there simply wasn't enough time for the Cubs to successfully retaliate, and the whistle would blow to make Vilita the new under-21 world champions.

"Hey, it was a great run," commented Reagan afterward. "We may not officially be reigning champions anymore, but by gosh we proved that we're right up there at the top. That's something to be proud of."
