Hrm ... tips ....

Read the stickies is a good one to start with. There's a lot of info scattered throughout. Hop on IRC if yer up to it - lots o' folks in several different channels to interact with and get help one on one or in a group setting.

Read bits that interest you, see where you want to go with your nation, and start in at whatever pace suits you. Find rp's that appeal, and see if you can join up - a good way to get involved, that, though at first, I'd avoid war ones unless it's something you've arranged, only on account of how hairy they can get.

The biggest deal is have fun, seriously. You will get as many different answers on what ought and ought not be allowed for size, pop, econ, etc as people you ask ... differing opinions on tech levels, and other developments, styles of diplomacy, etc, etc, etc ... got to go with what moves you.

Understand that the choices you make can and will affect the circles of folks you play with on here or in other forums. Similar tends to gravitate to similar as far as tolerance levels and the like. What might be thought acceptable by some will be called blatant godmodding by others. Don't worry too much about it - we all have opinions, and most have no qualms about expressing them. You won't please everyone, so don't try - game for yourself and your own enjoyment.

If you have questions, ask. There's other forums for that too, or tg's or as I mentioned, IRC and what not - folks are generally helpful with the usual exceptions that you can just dismiss out of hand.

But um ... yeah. Biggest thing: Have fun, enjoy yourself, and find what niche you feel most comfy in, and go for it. Best of luck, hope you enjoy playing here as much as I have. :)

Fun? THERE WILL BE NO FUN! This is serious, life threatening work here! Fun is for the weak! *Shivers with angsty rage and all that happy crappy* BLEARGHLE!

Heh heh. Seriously, though. What she said. And be certain to look at the different styles of RP. Always good to know what you're getting into before you SELL YOUR SOOOOUUUUUL!
