Ex-Nuclear Wastelan Recolonizationn (open rp idea thread)

So I was thinking - say some place got nuked, and a few thousand years later, the borderlands are losing their radioactivity (maybe with help from some kind of technology) so several nations decide to send teams in to see if the country is inhabitable. There they encounter all sorts of mutated weird stuff, and probably have confrontations with each other over right of claim and whatnot, and maybe some kind of mind-affecting gas, details to be worked out later.

By necessity this occurrs even further into the future than most future-tech nations, so it won't affect your country or any of your other rps - this is a one off, just for fun. Imagine what your nation will be like in a few thousand years.

Because it's so far into the future, any nation that likes the idea but can't be bothered with character rps (and has interesting geography) may volunteer their nation as the nuclear-wasteland-to-be and dictate the exact parameters of mutation (what's your national animal turned into?) and effects on the landscape (mountains with big chunks out and that sort of thing) - see that crater? That used to be the city of *insertnamehere*. You can still find bits of *insertsomethinginterestinghere* if you dig. And I suppose it can be haunted if you really want, but I was thinking more sciffy than supernatural.

So how about it? Anyone interested?

oh yeah deffinetly.... or you could simply have this all take place in a made up nation that was attacked in the past and is now being settled and each of us is sending in our teams

Yes, alright, replies, w00t!

I simply thought it might be interesting for someone who doesn't like character rp's to rp the actiual nation itself, and whatever weird stuff we find there - it would give us a solid base and we wouldn't have paradox's like one team saying the mutant species is harmless like a possum and the other saying they are sentient (although we could attribute that to human error).

owever that would only work in a future setting, if we do have it as now I suggest we use a real world nation, because at least we wont have arguments over geography.

Ruskkia has just the place you're looking for right in its very own back yard.

The Southern Wastes!

A large desert on our southern border, seperated by a river from the great plains of southern Ruskkia. Coastline on the western edge with the southern end of the Dragonspine Mountians to the far east. Far as we're aware its reach deep into the south, but we don't know where.

It has been noted that there is alot of ruins in the south, with the wreckage of airships in the north.

There is two towns in the wastes, Port Rye on the coast and Keep Out, a wild west style mining town, some miles inland.

Giant sand worms or 'Graboids' have been recorded from time to time with the rare sithings of Dragon like creatures in the far east.

Will supply map if requested.

That sounds good, Russkia, only it's not radioactive, is it? But yes, if no alternative presents itself, it sounds good - why don't you wait a little while to see if any other ideas are put forward and then provide a map and an official request in an IC thread (link to it here) for international scientists/explorers to join the exploration party.

At this point, anyone who wants can send in a couple the following (see what hasn't been taken):

Scientist (specialty in: new species research/anthropology/biology/geography/other fitting to situation)
Medic (depending how many scientists n people, I'd say a couple trained in everything (broken bones, bites and stings, etc) maybe a specialist in strange new diseases/rashes/allergies and a trainee or two.
Ranger/explorer type people (again, depending how large the party is we might need between one and five of them, and at least one will be Russkian IF we go with the southern Wastes idea)
Cartographer (only one, unless someone has a valid reason for more)
Combat/defense/strategy type person (not too many of these, remember we don't really think we'll need them *cough*)

Are we going by land rover or pack mule? If the former we'll need a mechanic, if the latter a vet/hostler.

I'm thinking of sending in a medic and a scientist, or two scientists, depending on what other people want.

Are we having an Official team leader? If so, is it one of the Rangers or a random government official (Russkian if we're going thataway, mine if we're doing an RL country or an old NS country that's no longer played by anyone)?

Also, depending how many nations want in on this, we might not have room for everyone, so if someone wants to "secretly" mount their own expedition which may or may not clash with the official one, that's also fine.

I will bring in a ranger/explorer type person, one of my nations most vaunted explorers.

I may also have a scientist under my other nation of Rouge Jiggady, they have an established secret society of researchers and they tend to pop up all over the place. It would add some tension to the group, or I might just have them as another team that goes in on their own. whatever

Radioactive? We're not totally sure on that front, but it has been noted the persons who have travelled to the south of our borders and have actually come back, alive, have tended to fall ill with what could be classed as 'mild' radiation sickness.

Plus there is the fact that the wastes are seperated from the rest of Ruskkia by a river, this may not seem important but the north side of the river is more or less green grassland but scrubland near the river.

Oh and Ruskkia is a steamtech nation.

Transportion, its kinda a mixture of horse drawn carts, steam powered trucks and a number of internal combustion (motor) vechicals.

Oh and the Ruskkie offical we're sending, the infamous Ruskkie explorer and cartographer George Whittleton.

Okay, seems we're going with Russkia by popular opinion and for lack of any other ideas, when I said radiation what I really meant was are there any mutated animals or creepy "haunted" things.

I'll wait for a few other people to say who they'll rp and then write them all up and see what we're missing.

Okay, so we have so far:

Explorer/cartographer: 2
Scientist: 2
Soldier: 1
Medic: 0

I'll keep a running tally of that as more people join (come on people!) So what we need is a few medics and another scientist, really, and one more soldier wouldn't go amiss.

I'll provide a medic, actually, and a team leader cus anarchy is disorganised n stuff, and if no-one else joins I'll fill in what's left.

If it would be preferred, the Chaplain could playing the part of a medic rather than a scientist.

Umm... no, leave the scientist, because science is the main aim of the expedition - there's no point hacving more doctors if we have no scientists.

I'll just reiterate our assets and deficiencies:

We have to public knowledge:

Team Leader: John Berrek, Resquiden Captain fresh from Command School, with five-man defensive squad.

Doctor Luke Garden, Fellow of the Theo-Scientific College of Tol Matthew
Tall, pale brown hair, average build. Skilled at most firearms and unarmed combat. Also talented at his particular field of science.
(un-known to team: Chaplain-Sergeant of Isam)

Equipment:
Geiger counters and other measuring devices
Several strange objects that are used in his science
Two pistols hidden in his gear
Communications devices.

Miscellaneous scientist (Jiggady - name his/her specialty or is it general?)

Western Australia: Miscellaneous scientists (to be updated)

The infamous Ruskkie explorer and cartographer George Whittleton. (second in command)

Jiggadian ranger/explorer (name, specs?)

Robert Fortier, former Marine, ICI and INSA operative, First Speaker of Imitora, and now just a thrill seeker. Note: please do not kill.

Jack the Rabbit: mercenary out of the Federation of Hellspawned Angels. Initial training comes from his compulsory service period in Angels' military, and five additional years on contract. Six years out of military.

Weaponry: customised Razor Angel (rl Galil ARM assault rifle), a Spitfire Angels (rl Micro UZI), a grenade belt, and a pack of specialty explosives, and several progressive knives hidden on his person. Computer armband and HUD goggles

kevin carter: 32 year old ex-infantryman, now works primarily as a bodyguard for notable dignitaries within the Random Goldfish. Intelligent but quiet, proficient in the use of several forms of conventional weaponry but dislikes unnesecary violence. Has contacts in the random goldfish government from being a bodyguard to a high level politician

Resquiden Dr. Hannah Veddele, former army doctor, and her student.

Georgiana Blaze: Euroslavia. treatment for small wounds, such as broken bones, minor sicknesses, etc, specialty: radiation treatment. and diseases n viruses

That seems sufficient, please send specs if you have't. Anyone else joining, no more soldiers please.

Jack the Rabbit is a mercenary out of the Federation of Hellspawned Angels. His initial training comes from his compulsory service period in Angels' military, and five additional years on contract. He's now six years out of the military, and has spent thay time roving the world under a Hellspawned Angels government mercenary passport.

His carried armoury consists of a customised Razor Angel (rl Galil (http://www.imi.co.il/imi/doa_iis.dll/Serve/item/English/1.1.2.12.2.2.html) ARM assault rifle), a Spitfire Angels (rl Micro UZI (http://www.imi.co.il/imi/doa_iis.dll/Serve/item/English/1.1.2.12.2.1.html)), a grenade belt, and a pack of specialty explosives, and several progressive knives hidden on his person. In addition to explosives, his pack als holds field rations, spare ammunition, and a military sleeping bag.

Finally, he wears the computer armband and HUD goggles that distinguish Hellspawned Angels soldiers and mercenaries.

I'll post a description of his appearance and such as part of the IC, later.

we could send a scientist or two.
Euroslavia
11-11-2004, 18:38
I can send a medic into the group.

Georgiana Blaze
Her medical skills exceed majority of those within Euroslavia. She has been known to bandage wounds/cure sickness/etc. faster than most. She knows practically everything about diseases and viruses that are known to man, and a few more that aren't exactly known. Her specialty has always been radiation treatment. She even developed a special antidote a few years back, to help lessen the effects of radiation treatment for cancer subjects, by giving the white/red blood cells some sort of temporary immunity to the blast of radiation, however, side effects have been noted, and it is only a temporary solution. She is currently working on ways to expand the time of the dosage for the antidote.

Georgiana knows all of the basics for the treatment for small wounds, such as broken bones, minor sicknesses, etc, and would be a great asset to the team.

kevin carter
a 32 year old ex-infantryman, now works primarily as a bodyguard for notable dignitaries within the random goldfish. an intelligent but quiet person, he is also a very serious man, and something of a perfectionist. despite his army and bodyguarding experiences, he does not like violence, preferring other solutions where possible. however, he is capable of violence when it becomes necessary, being proficient in the use of several forms of conventional weaponry. has contacts in the random goldfish government from being a bodyguard to a high level politician

Just a question, why does it have to be so far in the future? Doesn't post-nuclear weapon radiation drop to relatively safe levels after about 80-100 years? I mean, there are still people living in Hiroshimi and Nagasaki. Likewise, the Bikini Islands could support life now...even though the US vaporized a solid chunk of it with a 20 megaton thermonuclear warhead. There's even talk of letting some of the islander return in a few decades.
The ecological devastation of a full nuclear war would be much longer lasting than the radiation, granted, but a few thousand years would be enough for things to return to relatively normal...though you won't see a whole lot in the way of large land animals.

Anyway, just making the point.
Hellspawned Angels

Aye, but we -want- the presence of those large animals :P

And anyway, a thousand years is quite some time, considering the rate at which technology develops. Go look up some modern tech; you'll be surprised how far RL tech is already. Just recently, a working biological computer was developed.
