In 1968 director George A. Romero released Night of the Living Dead, then about ten years later Romero released a film that would help spawn dozens of movies, games, and comic books. Dawn of the Dead was released in 1978 and people loved both of his films. A mixed bag for many of us horror fans out there, no sooner had Dawn went into theaters, a busload of rip-offs and other zombie films began to appear. There have been respectable zombie films like ZOMBIE from 1979, to the down right horrible like House of the Dead from 2003. At any rate, we can all say there have been good zombie films, mediocre zombie films, and films you just want to bury in the dirt and forget you ever saw them.

If you haven’t guessed already, I’m planning a zombie RP. At the moment it is titled CITY OF THE DEAD and could change, though that is unlikely. I’ll give more info about the story, characters allowed, and of course the zombies later on. Unlike my first RP AVP which was more action, this RP will be somewhat like Romero’s films in the sense of the collapse of structured society and can it survive. I’ll give more info in my later post about this tidbit.

I’m saving spots for a few people whom I’ve TGed and IMed about this. So if you’re a zombie fan, think about it and sign-up. Depending if I get more people than I want, which is about 7-9, I’ll have to make a few cuts. Otherwise I ask everyone that signs up to be a human, and don’t sign-up as a zombie. I’ll talk about them in my next post and what they’ll be like.

WARNING: This RP will not be given any rating, unlike some which the person might give thier Rps a PG-13 or R, this RP will be not rated for reasons that some people might find it’s gore and language content shocking. But there is no explicit sex in this RP.

Here is the info about the zombies.

In cinema there are three major categories (there might be more, but these are the three I've seen the most) you might say for making a zombie, radiation, voodoo, or viruses. The latter seems to be more popular nowadays and most noticeable with the video game series Resident Evil and the two movies based off the games. Romero took radiation to make his zombies, while Fulci (director of ZOMBIE) and most zombie films before Night have used voodoo as their way of making the hungry dead. Right now I want to look at Romero’s films.

All his zombies bear a common trait, besides they like to eat warm human flesh, is that they are slow and kinda clumsy. The remake of Dawn had zombies who could run quiet fast and easily catch up to thier meal. I wish to go back to Romero's idea of zombies, slow, ugly, and rotting away.

The zombies in this RP, like Romero's films and every other zombie flick you'll see can only be killed by putting a bullet in the head, cutting off the head, or bashing thier skulls in. If any of you have seen ZOMBIE the humans use molotov cocktails against the creatures, fire can also kill them, after a while.

I don't need to go over the zombie bite, we all know a few hours later the poor devil turns into one. The zombies here are not intelligent enough to use tools, so there are no Bub like zombies in this RP. And there are no zombie dogs.

There are a few things about the zombies in this RP which I'm keep under wraps till it begins. If you have any questions, put them here or TG me.

I'll do the basic human story in my next "big" post later down the road. But I would prefer that the humans start off in the base and be civilian or military. And I ask again, please don't sign up to RP a zombie.

I've Rped or currently Rping with some of you, so you know who you are; people I haven't Rped with, please TG me an RP you have been in so I can check out your work.

In this post I'm gonna kill two birds with one stone, the story, and player "classes". I think it is needed to have them all in one post so you don't have to go looking for each post. Some elements of the story I'll reveal little by little during the RP.

Story

Humans are now confined to forts, most are outside of major cities like LA, Dallas, Richmond, etc. The story takes place in the Washington DC fort, where many of the survivors from Washington, Maryland, and Virginia have come. The compound is located a safe distance from DC and people go back to DC and the surrounding cities on supply runs or when distress signals come in.

The few members of the current administration urge the President to use nuclear weapons to destroy the creatures, he refuses. The suit case that would allow him to do that is not with him, it is in the hands of someone he trust; who he thinks is safely away from DC.

On a foggy night in Boston a small plane just escapes the zombies, it heads south and crashes into DC. A garbled transmission is received from inside the city and a team (lead by my character) is sent out to find the survivors of the crash.

They are soon stranded, and with nerves shot and the army of the dead closing in, their only hope to get out alive might be an experiment going on at the far end of the fort; where strange noises come from.

Character Class
Now comes time for me to lay down my main ground rule for characters. I want regular humans, no powers, and special abilities like healing faster or see into the future. Just your run of the mill guy or girl caught in a situation no one can explain. These are the two groups that I would like people to look when thinking of a character.

Military- Self explanatory, the team is mostly made up of soldiers who head into Washington to search for the origin of the signal.

Civilians- There are a large amount of civilians inside the fort doing different things from guarding the wall to cooking. If you want to be a civilian and come on the mission that is fine, many of the men are trained as a kind of militia if the stuff hits the fan.

I also want all the humans inside the fort when the RP starts.

I'd be quite interested in joining this. I'd probably choose to be a military-man myself.

May I ask, is there any proposed starting date for this RP?

Possible starting date is unknown. Once everyone puts in their character ideas and I okay them, I would need to do one or two more things before it starts. No one rush on thier characters please, think them over.

I forgot to mention that the few remaining people of the US gov't are only in a tiny supporting role and are just in the first part of the RP. It is okay if you think of a political figure, but remember he won't have much of a role in the main story.

Name: Liadan Mac Donaill

Family: Liadan has five older brothers. She shares a deep bond with one of them. They would do anything for each other.

Liadan was born in Kerry, Ireland, but moved to the United States with her family at the age of 14 after her mother died. She became a U.S. citizen at the age of 18, and was accepted into the Coast Guard Academy. This is ideal for her, as she has always had a deep love for and connection with the sea. She is very strong willed and determined, and she usually manages to get what she wants.

The single biggest influence in Liadan's life to date has been her mother, Deirdre. Deirdre raised her five sons and only daughter alone; their father died just after Liadan was born. She raised them in what has traditionally been called the "old ways"; the old Irish religion of mysticism and folklore. Liadan holds onto these beliefs. She reveres nature, especially the sea and the forest. She does not eat meat, and she dislikes the use of firearms, although she can and will use a gun if neccessary.

In America, Liadan watched as her older brothers left behind the old faith. They drifted apart to their seperate lives. All but Ciaran. He alone out of all the brothers held on to the old faith. He moved back to Ireland. This was especially hard on Liadan, as she and Ciaran had always shared a special bond. Even as children, they could always sense each other. If one were hurt, afraid, or in some kind of danger, the other would know immediately. Neither of them knew how they did it, but they always had. Should Liadan find herself in trouble, Ciaran would certianly come to her rescue...

I will be a civilian... adept with weapons yet not of any military background. I'll think of something remotely interesting soon...

Nathan's mother died when Nathan was born. Nathan's father, filled with anguish and sorrow, killed himself a month later, a shotgun to the face at point-blank range. Nathan was found a day later in his house. He went to an orphanage, and lived there for most of his life.

Nathan was unusually bright. He always succeeded in life, and got alot of qualifications. But Nathan was also a very nice person, always there to help out when needed, and always the one to look on the bright side of things.

Even though Nathan had a big choice of jobs, he felt he could make a difference in the Military more than anywhere else. He quickly rose to the rank of Lt., and became very proficient with weapons, particularly close range weaponry, and heavy weaponry. He also learnt how to be a medic at an intermediate level (he can give first aid, and even do some field operations, but nothing too big).

While Nathan wanted to get far, he didn't want to command teams of people, and so, he denied promotions, and stayed on station at Washington D.C., even until the 'outbreak'. He's been at the fort ever since, helping out where possible.

Also worthy of note, Nathan has a photographic memory.

Right, first thing is first. To make sure no one is thinking of using characters from thier NS nation let me say this:

City of the Dead is takes place in the Real World. So, if you're thinking of putting someone from your nation into the Rp, I'm sorry to say, start from scratch or modify them.

Val, there is a world-wide infection, how can he not believe in the existance of zombies, considering there are a few thousand a couple miles away? I don't want another crazy Doc Adams or a Doc Logan. You can put your ideas here or via tg.

Because of the need of having a stream-line Rp without being bogged down with a lot of characters, I'm sorry to say I'm going to have to make a few cuts. I should have a final list later tonight or tommorow morning.

Born into a Marine Corps family where his father and two brothers were jarheads themselves, Andrew McGreggor naturally became interested in the prospects of becoming a career Corpsman. The only "genius" in his family, father Daniel McGreggor tried to talk his young son out of joining the armed forces and become a doctor or lawyer. Though he never gave in to his father's wishes, Robert opted to apply to the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated at the top 10th percentile of his class. Excelling in battlefield tactics, the top brass decided to keep him out of the battlefield for his skills as a mastermind tactician--a decision he decided to contest by sleeping with a General's daughter. Reprimanded for "undignified" behavior, Andrew was to be banished from the military for his actions only to be saved by his own father, who pleaded for him to be transferred to another unit.

And transferred he was. The young officer was bumped down to the level of a grunt (figuratively, of course...he was allowed to keep his 2nd Lt. rank in the Marine Corps) and thrown into the war-torn streets of Kosovo and Afghanistan's mountainous terrain. Through acts of bravery and leadership, Andrew literally leapt from one rank to the next, finally becoming a major in a short span of six years.

When the epidemic struck the United States, his unit was one of the first called in to defend D.C. from the first wave of walking corpses. Within hours, the city fell to the undead, leaving only a scant number of survivors to escape via chopper to Fort Meade--the only haven for the still breathing.

In order to keep a more streamline Rp, I had to cut some people from the list of Rpers. I hope no one feels angry by me not choosing them for this Rp.

Rikan "Viper" Tansho was only a child when her parents were brutally murdered in cold blood by ruthless killers. She herself escaped and was soon taken in by a mercenary group and trained to be a fighter. She was fast and deadly in her strikes, thus earning herself the name of "Viper" with much respect. Her skills propelled her to the highest rank in the mercenary group and she turned her skills to hunting down any and all creatures that dared to strike the helpless.

Never once did she look back as she pursued her quest to avenge her parents death, and continue the only life she ever knew since then...

She fled her country to the United States, hoping that at least here, the zombie population wouldn't be as out of control as back home.

Biography:

Ruben Halifax is a cold hearted killer. There is no denying such, even he will tell you so. What makes this man different from your normal homicidal maniac is that Ruben is not insane, nor does he derive some sick pleasure from end the life of others. He is a man of goals and believes any means will justify his ends.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, Ruben ended up in jail within the United States, although the charge had been reduced to manslaughter, it was jail time nonetheless. Ruben had quickly portrayed himself as a man that would retaliate with extreme violence if provoked, resulting in the severe injuries of another inmate.

After the zombie incident, Ruben had taken advantage of the situation and made his escape. He had no trouble posing as an average citizen and is now within the safety of a military fort.

Skilled in close combat, Ruben is most deadly with blades yet he is reasonably adept with guns but prefers a bow if he must use projectile weapons. Ruben has no real interest in the zombies, save that he wants them gone. They are preventing his goals from becoming reality and so he shall rid the nation of them by any means...

(OOC: Just a little side note guys...I think GS wants our characters based on the current RL boundaries, thus none of us can actually RP an avatar that comes from our respective nation. Assington--I don't think we're in GS...more like RL U.S. The RP's starting at a fort outside of D.C...seeing as a quick hit on Google resulted with hitting up Fort Meade as an operational military base near that area, I assume it's the unnamed fort he's chosen to have the characters to start from. As for Tarlachia...I'm not too sure about yours as it comes straight from your country.

I understand what you're saying, but I talk to GS on a regular basis. Also, I'd like to point out that having zombies is still fictional, and thus having a character that's dealt with other fictional beings is perfectly legal, especially since she's just a regular human that just happens to fight very well...

Thanks Androtia, saved me a lot of time by mentioning that. But, you're wrong in your guess, Fort Meade is not where much of the first part of CITY takes place. My own fort of my imagination is where much of it takes place. You guys will see it when I start the Rp.

Yes, I know zombies are fictional, but this Rp kinda takes place during Romero's films. I've placed CITY after the events in DAY, but this is kinda before LAND. This Rp mentions some events in the Romero's three films (and maybe a vague mention to the one he is making) to kind of tie it in.

Since the military has been fighting most of the creatures, they have more experiance against them. So, having a military man who has been fighting the creatures since they were disovered in Penn. would be fine.

Even tempered, he is well liked by many of the soldiers and militia in the base. Though he has exploded into rages about various things. Is strongly disliked by the remaining of the administration for his refusal to endorse thier idea of using nukes.

Is personally chosen to lead a team into Washington to find the survivors of the mysterious crash.

Merrin is in the Army, but do to the infection the services work together. Since your guy is the second highest ranking officer so far, you will be second in command of the team. Army or Marines, they are human and work together.

Yo GS, and everyone. Thing is, I subscribe to this thing, and yet I never get the email notifications :(

Anyways, GS, what I want to have is have my scientist, who I will elucidate on below, to still disbelieve that they are zombies, and say that they are just people suffering from a new strain of the Bubonic Plague released by a foriegn power, like North Korea. He will also say that part of the whole zombie thing is just Mass Hysteria, caused by media.

What do you think? If not, he can just be a normal doctor :P

Biography:

As a biological scientist for the CIA based out of NYC, Carrington has spent years in the genetic warfare lab, researching the newest in living organisms and their relationship to their environment. As a microbiologist (the study of microscopic organisms), he has researched to advance knowledge of living organisms, including viruses, bacteria, and other infectious agents.

He has held the record for the amount of Smallpox strains ever created in a controlled environment (72), and at all tmes, carries vaccines and treatments that has not been DEA and FDA approved, and yet can cure nearly all airborne viruses. Carrington has never faced a problem that he could not solve without science.

And yet, this current "Zombie" crisis has him befuddled. Not the zombies themselves. No, that was because there were no zombies. Zombies were the fiction of media and Hollywood alike. The "living dead" were really those afflicted with a new, more benign variant strain of the Bubonic Plague. The rest was simply a matter of Mass Hysteria.

Unfortunately, his wife, Kara, and son, Garret, were also afflicted with the disease. A challenge to be sure...

Val, I like your guy. He is going to have one hell of a shock when he sees a dead man rise and try to eat someone. Should make things even more interesting since the phenomenon can not be explained by science. But, I don't want another insane Doctor Adams on my hands; I also don't want a Doctor Logan. Just thought I should say this now, and not spend time during the Rp talking about this.

By the way, when you say his wife and son are infected. Where are they when they get bitten or are they already zombies?

I think it is a good time for me to list the two main settings of the Rp. As I have
stated it takes place around Washington DC. These are the two main settings where the Rp takes place.

USF 001- I'll explain the rest about this place in the into post, but basically it used to be an old underground Cold War bunker system. Its purpose was to provide a safe haven for the President and the members of Congress if a Soviet nuclear attack appeared imitate. When the first reports of the creatures began to come from Pennsylvania, the underground complex was expanded and a high concrete wall built. The construction was barely finished with the infection spread out of Pennsylvania.

National Air and Space Museum- I except for some of you to read that are thinking "What is he smoking?". I had gone through several ideas for a setting, the White House, the Capitol Building, and finally decided on the NASM. This is the place where most of the Rp is going to take place, the humans inside with the army of the dead on the outside.

I just wanted to say another thing. I don't want the word zombie to be used when our characters are talking to each other. Any other vile and disgusting word you can conjure up is fine with me.

Val, just posted the settings. I did try to instal MSN, but for some reason it froze my computer and I had to uninstal it. All I got is AOL. You can still TG me though.

Bio: D-Money came onto the gang scene several months before the actual outbreak of the zombie event. After springing a local crime boss from a police car, D-Money fell in with that particular gang, rising to the top of the inter-gang fighting circuit, through which all turf & property disputes where settled. Using a combination of kickboxing, streetfighting, and a blend of professional/technical wrestling, he remained the top-ranked fighter up to the outbreak of the zombie event. Since then, he has migrated from New York to several different places across the east coast, his ride finally breaking down in outside of Fort Meade, where he has sought asylm for a few days until he can steal a new ride...

The RP's turning out nicely GS. I like what we've got so far. However, I hope you have some plans for what to do inside the NASM, otherwise, things are gonna stalemate. I'd advise against that. Perhaps have the generator blow up or something? Something that might compromise the entire security?
