Stargate discovered on New Haven

"Why do they want a weather observation post here? Why not in town?" A construction worker asked his supervisor, digging into the ground with a shovel. The electric bulldozers, dump trucks, and other mechanized equipment were off helping to construct the base for the space elevator, which would soon connect the colony to space.

"The buildings near downtown are getting up to ten stories already, it would screw up the wind pattern," The Supervisor said as he ate a sandwich. The worker kept digging with his buddies until there was a loud bang. "What the bloody hell made that sound?" An unusual piece of metal was partially buried in the ground, two symbols cut into an inner part that were unfamiliar to the workers.

"Think it could be alien ruins?" Another worker said to one of his collegues.

"That'd be a stroke of bad luck," said another worker. "We'd have to close off the construction site and let archeologists poke around. They would take ages to unearth whatever this thing is, let alone everything else!" The workers began to dig around the object, using their shovels to find the outlines of the object. "It's hollow in the center! Watch out lads, it might be a tunnel of some kind! Dig around the edges first! We don't want this thing collapsing in on us." The workers dug on, finally unearthing the giant ring.

"Oh shit, I've read about these things before, back when I was in the Aerospace Force!" The Supervisor called out as he looked down on the device. "That's a bloody stargate!"

"A star-what?" A worker asked back.

"It's a bloody wormhole maker, you dumbass!" The Supervisor called back. "I gotta call the ISASF, they're going to want to know about this!"

(5 Months Later; 500 miles from New Freeport)

ISASF scientists and officers recovered the gate from the Earth and hastily built a base far from New Freeport, to make sure that any problems would not effect the fledgling colony. An entire underground facility had been built around the stargate, containing a barraks, research facility, mess hall, gate room, quarantine chamber, gate control room (overlooking the gate room), and a massive fusion generator.

In a conference room, Island States officers and other USR military personnel gathered to discuss the implications of their discovery.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen," Colonel Parsons addressed the gathered officers and personnel. "Today is a momentous occassion for the United Socialist Republic! We have successfully recovered and reactivated a stargate, the first one discovered by our peoples ever by all accounts provided to me. Traders, galactic explorers from The Island States, and other accounts pointed to the existance of these gates, but we had no idea one was here, until just a few short months ago."

"We are here to begin attempts to access other gates, and contact other civilizations to acquire technologies and alliances that would prove beneficial to the USR. Any questions?"

With a grinding sound, the inner ring of the naquadah, carved with the angular symbols of the constellations as seen from earth, began to shake. As was often the case with a ‘gate that hadn’t been used in an age, the ground nearby began to shake as though a moderate earthquake was happening nearby. The glasses on the table in the conference room shuddered, ripples criss-crossing their surface as the desk beneath them shook.

Forming in the toridal ring of stone, a shining pool of something that seemed to be water appeared, gushing out with a blast of uncontrolled energy that fell back in on itself, forming a rippling wall of water that was, amazingly, staying within the ring. The stargate stopped shaking, and from the surface of the water, an orb fell, clattering onto the floor, it rolled a little way and stopped. A beam of light, like a laser, but forming a sheet, and obviously harmless, swept out of it, toward the roof, and then quickly down, onto the floor. With that, the ball stopped, doing all of this and nothing more, seemingly dead or otherwise useless.

Convinient timing...

"I have a question, sir!" Asked a young lieutenant. "What the hell was THAT?"

"You're asking the wrong person, Lieutenant," Colonel Parsons replied. He tapped his headset. "Control, what the hell was that?"

"We have no idea, and the computers are trying to identify where the object came from," a technician radioed back. "Seems that the object that came through is now inert, but I really suggest that we put it in a bomb-proof container and transport it off site for analysis."

"Roger that, send in an unmanned vehicle to pick it up and carry it out of the base," Parsons replied before turning back to the group. "It's obvious that we don't have to look far for another gate user. Let's get ready to send through an unmanned vehicle, take a quick peek."

With a clomp of booted feet, a figure stepped from the wall of water. He was tall, and armoured, plates of heavy metal covering strategic locations over a chain mail tunic. Above his shoulders rose a high helm, made of the same armour material, showing nothing of the figures head. The helmet was styled after a falcon’s head, glowing red eyes set into it. It looked at the unmanned vehicle and gripped the staff a little tighter in its gloved hand, stepping away from the portal to let two more of its kind step through, in a tide that wouldn’t stop until half a dozen were sent through the gate.

The officers walked into the control room, a flurry of soldiers pouring into the tunnel beneath them and breaking into a defensive formation. Colonel Parsons looked through the glass, picked up the microphone, and boomed into the gateroom.

"Welcome to New Haven, our otherwordly comrades!" Parsons said over the loudspeakers. "What brings you here to this planet? A bottle of Red Star Vodka, perhaps? An interest in the glorious communism my people live under?"

Senior Commisar Nikita Feduleyev strode into the command room, looking quite irate at having been roused from his nap by being flung onto the floor by what seemed like an earthquake.

He walked up behind Colonel Parsons and looked down towards the gate. Sighting the several figures, he raised his eyebrows and said.

"Colonel, who the hell are they? Looks like some pictures out of a damn schoobook."

Parsons turned off the intercom into the gate room. "I don't know who the hell they are, but I hope they're just here for the vodka and the Karl Marx convention."

Surprisingly enough, before Lord Atum’s abrupt departure from this life, and on to wherever he’d actually gone, he had managed to get some basic facts about the modern world instilled in his underlings. A brief conception of some heresies was part of this. The Christian heresy, which preached forgiveness and tolerance of all things, for example, or the Communist Travesty, denial of the existence of the goa’uld. The hawk head looked at the man curiously for a minute, and he brought the staff to rest in a more horizontal position facing through the window, the end crackling with fire as it was activated. His electronically altered voice barked, “Communism is heresy! Kneel before your masters!”

"Now we're in deep trouble," Parsons said to his Hattian counterpart. "Everyone, back away from the windows!" He tapped his headset. "Marines, if they open fire, blow them away."

The marines pulled back the bolts on their M4 Pulse Rifles...

Feduleyev backed up and drew his pistol. He adjusted his radio and began speaking, "Marines, assemble in the Gate Room!"

A few seconds after he spoke, seven Marines filed quickly into the room behind the Islander troops.

"Marines, fix bayonets!"

The men fixed their long bayonets on the front of their rifles.

"Marines, present!"

The Marines leveled their rifles at the armored figures. They were larger than the weapons carried by the Islanders, firing large 30.06 rounds that would at least knock the enemy around, if not punch a hole in their armor. If that didn't work, a few grenades probably would...

Feduleyev walked back up to the window and turned on the intercom,

"I do not wish to speak for my Islander comrades, but Hattians bow to no one!"

The CM Gate Command heard of the news and came up with a list of all the known gates and a list of gates that had been explored before except they received a no-go signal from the probe. They cmplied another list of gates with an unknown destintion and an origin similar to that of where The Island States was. We finally narrowed the list down to three and dialed the first. The probe went in, but life was inhospitable at that place. We dialed the second and got a busy signal...
"We'll try that again later." General Hamm said
