Military

The New Imperial Rome maintains a large and well-equipped national defence force. The High Minister of Military
Affairs acts as the chief of staff of the defence forces(HMM is always a general-ranked officer), while the Emperor
is the Commander-in-Chief. There is a compulsory four-year arms service that is usually served between ages of 20-24.
Conscripts can serve either in one of the three branches of the military, or para-military provincial prefectures or
border guard corps. It is many young boy's dream to become an officer with the Imperial Armed Forces, but relatively
few will qualify for officer academy. Soldiers have good pay and are highly respected in the New Imperial Roman soci-
ety.

Army
The Imperial Army is responsible for defending the Empire's ground borders. It is well-equipped and numerous. Peace-
time Imperial forces compose of 18 bridgades and one regiment, which are half strenght at peacetime:

In addition there are seven praetorian guard regiments. The praetorians are elite professional soldiers that act
as imperial family's bodyguards. The praetorian guards are also elite combat troops that spearhead imperial
combat efforts and execute any special missions wanted by the emperor. The praetorian guards are under direct
command of the emperor and praetorian regiment commanders are appointed by the emperor.

four reserve mountaineer bridgades and two reserve marine regiments.

The AR-24 "Warspear" is standard issue weapon of Imperial Army combat troops, Imperial Navy Security Forces, Imperial Air Force Security Forces and Prefecture Special Intervention units.

NAVY
The New Imperial Rome is an island nation, and as such, it needs strong and capable navy. The islands and shallow waters
on the coast and in southeast, particularly the Unaffiliated Lands, set special requirements for navy ships and coastal
defense. Howewer, the navy still needs to maintain a "blue-water" capability, and for that purpose, it has efficient
cruiser and destroyer fleet. The Imperial Navy is divided into three operational commands:the Western Naval Command's
(NAVCOMWEST) area comprises southern coast of the Core Provinces area and western coasts of Avalonia and Midgård, The Eastern
Naval Command(NAVCOMEAST)is responsible for southern coasts of Bacana and Tokagawa, and eastern coast of Tokagawa, Northern
Naval Command(NAVCOMNORTH)is responsible for northern coasts of Midgård, Bacana and Tokagawa.
A prefix "IWS" meaning "Imperial WarShip" is used in names of Imperial Navy combat vessels. In resupply and other auxiliary
ships, prefix "INAS" is used, meaning "Imperial Navy Auxiliary Ship".
The registering practice of Imperial Navy is simple. First number means the ship's type, while other numbers
indicate the ship's individual number. As an example, cruiser IWS Aquila's registry number is IN(Imperial Navy) 315.
