Point of Transience : Space RP

*OOC note... the vagueness of the science in this post... frankly, scares me... however, in the interest of not having a generic FTL drive im sacrificing some facts to the higher good of drama, :P

Orbital Platform 'Turas' – high orbit – earth

The 'Pathbreaker' detached from the larger structure of the tarran base, built on the old NWA phase gate, ironically one of the technologies that was being used in this test. On board the bridge Isthus Treeson stood in the control systems interface – new design incorporating holographic projections. In the air above the small bridge a hologram of the gravity flux around earth. The ships location was marked.
“Gravamatrics, do we have the location of the transience point?”
“Theoretically.. we will need to get closer to pinpoint it”
Isthus 'touched' several symbols on the holographic display surrounding him, “Stormcaller, we are moving to first point of transience. Drive systems, charge for immersion, begin phase one.”

High chrono-stationary orbit sol side Martian equator

In high orbit around mars the Stormcaller moved around a seemingly unimportant area of space, only detailed scans would show that the area had an unusually high gravity pull, the combination of the Martian gravity field and the slight pull from distant Jupiter.

Steersman Sihlbhar Treeborn-Ennis stood on the bridge of Stormcaller, they had arrived earlier that afternoon, setting up there strange orbit, any queries as to there mission were met with a simple return transmission “Stormcaller, SFN, WTE, Friend.” any people who had perused the matter were told by Sihlbhar himself that the ship was their conducting research, which was... mostly true.
“check the gravity flux reeding's please”
“sir, thats the 9th time, we are in the right place” Sihlbhar grimaced, he had been waiting all day for someone to challenge him this way.
“yes...however, did you stop to consider that if we are zero point a whole hive of zeros one percent off, the remains of the Pathbreaker are going to be spread evenly between FPGT-1 and here?... perhaps you are volentearing to write the letters back to there loved ones.” the ensign fell silent and buissied himself taking the readings for the ninth time.
“this waiting is going to bring dishonor on me.”

'First point of gravimetric transience' sol – earth – lunar

The holographic displays around Isthus turned from green to white, sensors reported they had arrived, the Pathbreaker now sat in space, opposite the earth and the sun, away form the moon, here the gravity pull form all three planets was it its strongest. Isthus moved his hands through the holograms around him, ordering the ship to stop and transfer motion to the thrusters.
“This is it Lady's, point of transience. Cycle and polarize the phase generators, bring the immersion drive up”
the lights in the bridge dimmed briefly as power was fed to the unusually shaped on board phase gate housed in a ring around the ship.
“systems ready seanadóir”
“yes, I know,” retorted Isthus, surrounded in a halo of white symbols reporting the readiness of the drive engines. “Yagamead, Stormcaller we are ready to go here. We need the councils blessing and the exit coordinates for Mars”
“Seanadóir Treeson, you have our approval, best of luck.”
“Stormcaller is transmitting the beacon sir”
Isthus looked at the displayed floating in the air around him, and beyond to the faces of the other crew members on the ship, he set the Pathbreakers computer to work on figuring out the complex logarithmic mathematics required to successfully operate the drive.
“Tarrans.... Brake phase... were going to Mars... really quickley... Nemh onóir”

As if the last words were some sort of incantation, the dance of white symbols vanished, and were quickly replaced by a sea of green and red shapes. Outside the ship the two phase coils started work, one in the ring around the vessel, with its emmiters facing outward, one along a hollow tube through the center of the ship, its emmiters facing inward.

the phase envelope in the ring has two choices.... bridge the entire universe to connect with itself, or link with the phase envelope being generate in the pipe through the center of the ship... it dosent have the energy to bridge the whole universe...

a flickering golden light seemed to leap from the ring, one, seeming to come from the fore and aft of the ship, they met half way, encapsulating the Pathbreaker in a strange golden yellow light.
“Setting EM distortion... closing all non biological electronics”
Deep in the core of the ship, two electromagnets began switching polarities, at first slowly, then gradually faster, the Electromagnetic distortions passed throughout the ship.

as the oscillation of the EM field within the ship moves faster, the other weaker forces begin to distort also, with ought a correcting time reference from the rest of the universe, now separated from the ship by the phase filed, time inside the envelope stars to drift, not much, but a little bit

“EMD is stable at 3.267x10-33 Hz sir, all systems are normal”
“Deactivate the phase gate all crew brace, brace, brace”
The golden filed around the ship turned into a maelstrom of blew and white, cutting the bow of the ship as if it were passing at great speed through a nebula. Then the ship vanished with a bright flash, leaving 4 little neon blew lines which faded nearly instantaneously

The ship emerges into rail space again, but it dose so 3.267x10-33 seconds slower then it should, it exists in its space be afore it is supposed to...
Every 1.32x10-33 seconds the universe is destroyed and created, this theory is the crux of the phase gate technology, particles can only travel so far in this time.... but what of waves? What of gravity. It is lifted and set through 'phase space' as far at its wave cycle can take it in the time allotted, these 'waves of gravity' travel as fast as light. But they build up in moats, 'fields' of resonance around stars, dust falls into these moats gradually creating the planets, which generate there own gravity, there own resonance points. When two of these resonance fields meet, gravity is in a standing wave, space time is bent, more then usual, given the right provocation, say, some fool forced an object to exist where its not meant to, an object would 'surf' the gravity wave , traveling huge distances in the timeless space between the destruction of the universe and its re-establishment.

High chrono-stationary orbit sol side Martian equator

Pathbreaker emerged from its immersion in a time and space that could not exist. The rear of the ship had been seriously damaged by the force of its transfer
“this is deputy steersman Lorric, Isthus was injured during the transfer, 2 crewmen are dead, other systems are functional. Requesting assistance.”

[OOC: Simple note to my Sisgardian friend. Due to the fact that TFU is rather ignored by my nation, I deem that any interaction between him and you as well as you and me might become quite confusing and ambiguous.]

TSF Expeditionary Force,
Battlegroup Flagship "Viuga",
High Orbit over Mars.

It was all going quite routinely in Martian orbit. The TSF ships in orbit finished wiping out the 'insane' DA ships and were now assisting as best as they could with the repairs of damaged 'sane' DA assets. Commander Beyvsehgadov of the 8th Battlegroup thought he could allow himself an hour of rest when the gentle synthetic voice of the ship's BSI woke him up from his slumber.

"Sir, we have a Tarran ship requesting assistance."

"What? Tarrans?"

"As in SFN allies, Sir."

"*untranslatable Russian folklore*"

The officer rubbed his eyes and stretched, quickly putting on his uniform and rushing off to the command bridge. Since his apartments were on the adjascent deck, it was quite a short trip.

"Offer all immediate assistance. And ask them how the hell did they get here and what the hell happened."

"Yes, Sir."

>>Attention Pathbreaker and Stormcaller, this is TSF Battlegroup Flagship 'Viuga' of the TSF Expeditionary Force on Mars. We are ready to provice any assistance needed.

Fellow Sisgardians, its good to hear from you, we figured there would be some activity round mars byt we didnt think we would need assistance. Dealing with those injured is our priority. If you have medical facilities on any of your ships we would be most greatful. Brakes and blood mostley, but there are a few criticles currentally onbord the Pathbreaker.

As the Constellation loomed a few hundred Kilometers away humming a bit as it slowly makes its way closer.

Captain Julio McCray said quietly “Ops open up a hailing frequency to those ships “.
The ops officer nodded a bit pressing a few buttons a small beeping sound singled the channel was open.
The captain uhemd a bit and started talking “This is the federal ship UFS Constellation ... we noticed you over mars do you need assistance of any sort? “ the ship approached cautiously

>> Pathbreaker and Stormcaller, you will be assisted by the cruisers 'Vera'(Faith) and 'Vozdukh'(Air). They have everything required on board. The information you have transmitted has been wired off to the specified channels.

Just as the BSI finished the broadcast, two Emerald Spire cruisers detached from the main formation and set course towards the two Tarran ships. They arrived there quite soon, due to certain particularities of the Martian orbit and proceeded to offering the requested aid. Shuttles left the docking bays to retrieve the wounded while repair drones were deployed to aid in the repair efforts.

The 'Viuga' in the meanwhile broadcasted the received information on the SFN channels, its BSI wondering how many will receive it, due to certain current particularities of the Sisgardian region.

Sihlbhar stood looking over the bridge at the images of the two approaching ships.
Faith and Air. those are good omens boath.... did the Taraskovyans plann that or is it just the nature of the ancients
he focused on the higher level display contining the conditions of the ships. Other lights... the proximity alarms form the approaching shuttles, the status reedouts from the critically injured tarrans onbord the Pathbreaker, structural damage reports from the ships. Sihlbhar hoped that the Taraskovyan ships, Isthus had been mooved onbord the Stormcaller. His condition warrented more care.

"sir, we have recieved active offeres of assistance from another ship"
Sihlbhar didnt register this for a moment... after a while he clicked back "hum, well tel lthem we already have other assistance"
"yes sir... but" he indicated the main screen and an image of the other ship appeared
"waho... its, very pritty." this sentiment was echoed arround the bridge
"ill speek to them"

>transmit.
"Thank you for your kind offer, as you can see we already have allies helping with the injured... May i enquire whom i have the honour of adressing?"
>transmit end

"whats our defence condition... Just... curious"
"three effectoral cores are online and transmitting. All wepons are stoed and locked down as the council orderd"
Sihlbhar looked concerned, the Tarran Xenophobia showing clearley
"bring the remaining cores online, have them help shift the debris. Command crew could you please join with Morrigan?"

Seven Tarrans left there stations and took seets in the center of the bridge, arranged in a circle. One by one they each entered the trance required to merge there mental functions with the central AI core, improving the 'reaction time' of the ship significantally in piecetime or wartime. After a moment a strangley unisonic, sexless voice, with metallic overtones spoke through the ships internal speaker systems.
>we have activated all effectoral cores, our consenses is one of flight. we have already downlloaded the core memories of Pathbreaker to ourselves. if anyone is hostile towards us, we can flee.

Sihlbhar looked again atthe pritty ship. now he looked with a "clear" mind it did look like a ship of war, the hull was heavily reinforced. the habitat sections were somewhat squat and compressed, and it was unusual. Tarrans feered that which they did not recognise.

The ops officer opened another channel nodding to the captain a few feet away this time it was on screen the captain .uhemd and said it’s a pleasure to meet you this is captain Julio McCray we come in peace we wish to open up a dialogue if at all possible ? “.

Space near Mars

A small transport convoy consisting of only two ships and an escort were on their way to Earth, coming from the shipyard on Nénar. Everything went pretty much as normal, just an uneventfull voyage from one planet to another. Only this time something did happen. The convoy received a distress call from a pair of Tarran vessels.
On the bridge of the lead vessel the captain looked over a map of the area to see it wouldn't take them to far off course to go to the assistence of the Tarran vessels.

>> Stormcaller, this is the 25th Taurórë transport convoy. Are you in any need of assistence?
Bryn Shander

Border of Bryn Shander space, Mars

Cruising through space, the crimson ship went about it's business as usual. Like the other days of the week, the PNS Usagi patrolled the outskirts of Bryn Shander's territorial space. The new vessel, designed to replace the aging Chivvay and Zanzibar class cruisers, was the first of it's kind, designed and built at the shipyards in the asteroid Mathilde, which loomed off in the distance.

Every day, numerous ships around Mars get into trouble. Usually, it's nothing out of the ordinary. Once and a while, ships will collide or be hit by a micro meteor storm, requiring assistance from any of the nations that control orbital space, but it's rarely more serious than that. Today was no different.

"Captain, the ship that just appeared out of nowhere is sending a distress signal."
"How far are they from here?"
"Sensors show her at 30,000km from our current position."
"Set a course and hail them."
"Frequency open."

The 600m ship slowly began to turn, accelerating towards the planet.

>>"Unidentified ship, this is Captain Alaron Cawthorne of the PNS Usagi. We're receiving a distress signal, do you require assistance?"

a few hours earlier

Sihlbhar stood in the docking area of the #stormcaller helping the last of the injured off one of the tarran shuttles, a light chiming noise indicated that there was a message... she accepted it.

“its Lorric sir, Lorric. You wanted me to call you when i got to the bridge”
“yes, report please.”
“Isthus is on board Stormcaller with the other stable Tarrans and the injured crew from Pathbreaker, Five of out number are still critical and in the care of the Taraskovyans on board 'Vera' and 'Vozdukh', Stormcaller has been assigned the command crew and a skeleton support crew, the others await your orders.”
“good work ensign. You have Stormcaller, make course for home at all speed, inform the council of the condition... I will stay aboard Pathbreaker with the rest of my staff and effect what repairs we can.”
“I understand. on my honor relief will be sent quickly sir.”
“thank you, Lorric.”

The Stormcaller moved away from the broken looking ship and turned its heading towards earth, a small shuttle flew from it toward the Pathbreaker. An oval of visual distortion appeared in front of the ship as its great engines made use of the older... more power consuming FTL technology installed by there allies long ago. The ship passed slowly through the gate and was gone, along with all evidence of the immense forces that now carried it back to earth.

On board Pathbreaker Sihlbhar reached the bridge... it wasn't as bad as he had thought, some of the systems looked quite fried, but some of his technicalness were making repairs on the essential up links. Amazingly, the holographic interface device was still functioning and intact. Sihlbhar cursed under his breath, he had only had limited training in its use, and had never got the hang of its endless menus and alert status warnings, not to mention the strict movements required to piolet the ship.
“sir we have multiple incoming messages...”
“yes, thank you, this holographic nightmare is making me well aware of that, how is communications?”
“fine sir”
Sihlbhar sighed, “fine then, make up some eronious problem, i will send text responses to these requests, i have had enough with dealing with outsiders today”

>> To TFU
With regret, we are in poor shape to be starting diplomatic duologue at this time. . Embedded with this message are the prerequisites frequencies and message header protocols to contact my superiors.
We thank you for your offer of assistance.
In honor

“what of the Taurenorian Ships? Thy have offered assistance also. It seems they are headed to earth...”
“sir we do have the debris...”
“I am NOT getting ELVS to take garbage back to Earth”
“it dose have some strange and... specific, radiological anomalies.”
“ahh... that i can work with”

>> To Taurenorian vessels.
We than you for your offer, and if you are headed to earth may we ask whether you have space, and are equipped to carry class 2 listed materials for reaserch? We would also ask for a tow, but I have no wish to impede your journey to Earth.
In honor and Piece.

“another transmission sir, it appears to be from a harmbringer.” the operator brought a holographic display of the Usagi.
“do not judge books by there gun placements. and besides, harmbringer or not, they have offered aid, the LEAST we can be is polite”

>>To Usagi
This is Steersman Sihlbhar Treeborn-Ennis of Cairn Tarra.
Thank you for your reply. We knew there was life on mars but we never imagined there was so much life Around mars! The distress call you received has since been stepped down, we are in a stable, if somewhat damaged condition, our sister ship has returned for parts and our allies are helping with the remainder of our injured.

"Captain, incoming message."
"Patch it through."
"Patching now."

Captain Cawthorne read over the message a few times, thinking.

"Launch a Sparrow to scout and continue on course."

In fighter bay one, Lt. Kaorin Izumi quickly suited up. Zipping up the back, she raced towards her fighter, grabbing her helmet.

She was one of the first people from Bryn Shander to enter the Mars system, and the first to step foot on Mars herself. Shortly after the Kaolla Su arrived as the advance ship of the fleet escorting Mathilde, she was granted shore leave. Like many in Sol, her first thought on where to go was Menelmacari. A few weeks ago, the Kaolla Su was retired from service and became a monument in the Martian colony's capital of Elysium. Shortly therafter, she was transferred to the Usagi.

With a slight hop, Kaorin jumped into the open cockpit. Strapping herself into the seat, she hit the buttons that closed the canopy. As soon as the canopy closed, a worker pushed the fighter onto the catpult and attatched a block to the launching sled, ensuring that the wheel would be caught and the craft would be shot into space.

"Kaorin, launching!"

The sled, and fighter, shot foreward at incredible speed. In less than a second, the ship was behind her. Kaorin adjusted her course and sat back.

“ok, what is a class 2 tactical proximity alert”
“the harm bringer must have fired.. or launched... or something”

Verta>Vozdukh>> Stand on alert.

Vera>Fleet>> Request possible cover.

Viuga>Vera|Vozdukh>> You have the entire fleet as cover... not that we are all that busy with something else.

Vera>Fleet>> Point made.]

The two cruisers, or their BSI's to be precise, 'talked' silently between themselves and the fleet as the crew attended the Tarran ship. With Stormcaller gone, Vera and Vozdukh were left to cater over the 'small' Tarran ship that was about their size. And with all the increasing activity around Mars... but then again, the 6th to 8th Battlegroups were not far away...

The small black craft sped through space, doing an occational barrel roll here and there. Within twenty minutes, the small group of ships was visible, a tiny sillouette against the Martian surface. Correcting her course to come in with Sol at her tail, Kaorin flipped a switch on the dash, activating a camera.

As the minutes passed, the ships became larger and larger. Before long, she could make out the colors of the ships. Just to make things interesting for the poor saps stuck on the bridge watching the live feed, Kaorin pushed the Sparrow to full speed, closing on the ships quickly.

Vozdukh>Fleet>> Understood.

The crews of the TSF ships did not react. However, on surface of the Vozdukh's hull a hatch opened and a turret popped up, pointing its cannons somewhere into the depthness of space. Or, more specifically, on something fast and small within that depth.

Near Mars

>> To Pathbreaker: We are able to tug your vessel, though we lack any tugging cable or cable of sufficient strength. If you have one we can tug you back to earth. We are also capable of transporting class 2 listed materials. Our transport vessels will move closer and then you will transport the materials to them. If not capable of transporting them yourself we wont be able to take them, for lack of having any shuttle capable of transporting such materials.

A few seconds after the reply was send on the bridge of the destroyer suddenly red lights came on and an alarm was sounding until the captain pressed the cancel button. “Report.” He said looking over to his sensor operator.
“We have an unidentified fighter coming in on an attack vector sir.”
“Aim the guns at the fighter. You have orders to return fire.” He said and turn to his communications officer. “Contact the unidentified fighter. Tell himto identify himself and break off.”

Thank you for your kind offer, unfortunately we have no such cable no locking technology. However, this is academic as Stormcaller will return in less then a week with spares and materials to allow us to effect repairs to our gate drive system and return home under our own power. The priority is getting these new debris back to Yggdrasil before their gamma decay signatures become unreadable. We must study those parts in detail in order to proceed with the reaserch.
With honour, depest thanks and greatest respect.

Sihlbhar typed up the end of the message. “comms if you can transmit that”
“yes sir... wait a moment... wait...... yes. Comms reports the Approaching Taurenorian transports have painted your 'sensor malfunction' as a fighter, its coming in at attack speed with the sun behind it.”
“I hate it when your right. Prepare a long range pulse broadcast. Target Yggdrasil, DONT TRANSMIT UNTIL WE ARE FIRED UPON”
“sir... what of our escort”
“I hope they will refrain from firing until the fighter makes an offensive gesture, i cant contact them, it would be in breach of honor and impolite to tell them what they can and cannot fire at.. charge the engins, prepair to make evasive manouvers”

Sadly, Kaorin did not receive the broadcast. Her radio was set to an encrypted military frequency. The ship accelerated even more, coming close to it's safe limits. Kaorin glanced around the cockpit one more time to make sure that every thing was green. It was.

As Kaorin approached, a horrible vision of the future flashed into her mind, with her floating dead through space, her fighter in pieces around her. In a fraction of a second, she could see every shot from the two cruisers, most ripping into the Sparrow. For the first time in her career, she was scared. There wasn't enough time to pull out of her run.

Kaorin closed her eyes and let her fear and instincts take over. She thought about the trajectory that each shot would have, and calculated the best course to take. Subconsciously, she deactivated the safety measured built into the ship. The Sparrow would be pushed past it's designed limits, perhaps even fail catastrophically, but that's better than the alternative.

As the Sparrow got close, the first shots were fired, followed by many more. Kaorin, still acting by instinct alone, dodged and rolled, maneuvering faster than any craft should. The craft began to emit a bright blue-white glow, weaving faster than the eye can see, each turn leaving an afterimage of the Sparrow.

In less than a second, Kaorin was passed the ships, traveling at more than 1km/s. Slowly, the glow faded, and the craft began to slow to a normal speed. By the time Kaorin regained consciousness, over a minute had passed. Her body ached all over, the most intense pain coming from her head. She plotted a course for the Usagi, and began to head home.

Well, she would have headed home, except that her engines and computers were dead. The Sparrow was pretty much drifting through space.

“By the seven circles! They have locked us into Stones Gambit...”
Sihlbhar's expression was one of unshakable disbelief and shock, he was not a religious man by any extension, but this was more serious now, he barely whispered, “we took no damage?”
“none sir, the ship didn't fire”
“and it made no communications?”
“none sir”
“bring the engines on line. thrusters, matter ejection... loherell start burning crew members if you have to”
“we wont catch them on time.”
“a shuttle will... move the Pathbreaker between the Taraskovyans... between anything attempting to fire on that ship.... if anyone asks whats going on... *sigh* tell them.... or lie well.”
“Nemh onóir? Sir”
“Nemh onóir, con gach, ull ne an onóir”

Sihlbhar left the bridge, running down the corridors,
Pathbreaker started moving, its one remaining PIPD straining under the pressure of attempting to move the bulk of the entire ship, emergency thrusters, docking aids, the ship even jettisoned spare parts and waste to get momentum, to bring it between the other ships and the wounded sparrow.
Sihlbhar barreled down the corridor into the ships small docking bay. Pathbreaker has two small shuttles capable of carrying 5 people, at a squeeze, but with a PPDP* and PIPD** it was incredibly fast and manuivrable. He jumped into the ship and took it out of the hanger, canceling the various warnings concerning speed and the absence of anything resembling a pre-flight check.

Pathbreaker closed the angles between the other vessels and the Sparrow, taking several bouts of weapons fire before the other ships realized what was happening and shut off there weapons. From the underside of the tarran ship the shuttle flew out, its 'solar sail' unfolding from its 'stored' position wrapped round the ship. It shot out towards the sparrow.

ooc:
PPDP - Phased Photon Decay Prosessor - 'solar sail' with rather advanced opower generation capibilities
PIPD - Phased Ion Pulse Drive - Sub light, low efficancy, rather poo drive system
yea... most of my tech begins with 'phased' cus its such a cool word :P

One of the particle beams hit home on the front hull of the Pathbreaker, they reached deep inside the superstructure of the vessel. Most of the ships bio-polymer based systems went into shock, the internal hull plating around the damaged areas doubled its wet mass in less then 30 seconds, plugging most of the major 'leeks'. Still the damage was extensive, several of the labs and workshops fell in the path of the beem and would never be used again. Sensor clusters, synapse nodes, the front of the ship was now all but usless.

Sihlbhar fought the controls of the small shuttle as he approached the sparrow, he very genteelly edged the shuttle next to the small fighter, then in front of it, then, he started to cut the speed.
