Big Pimento
20-10-2004, 18:36
The Commonwealth of Big Pimento invite the entire world to partake in the inaugural Nationstates X Games. The X Games will feature 15 extreme sports to challenge the young, young at heart and those equally possessing a death wish. Most events will be played out in the city of Calista and the surrounding area. Each country will be permitted to send two riders per event.

Scoring will be done using an Excel spreadsheet, with factors determining the scores being a random number generator and the countries’ strength in that event. Participating countries will receive a telegram prior to competition to give them a set number of points to distribute between the respective events. The total of points to be distributed is yet to be determined and the telegrams will be sent in two weeks time – when the sign-ups for the X Games will officially close.

The sign-up sheet is below and remember, you don’t have to participate in every event and it’s a maximum of two riders per event. Here’s a sample sign-up sheet for the delegation Big Pimento will be sending over. Just copy and paste this list and remove the names for sign-ups.

Sign-Ups have been updated. I didn't expect this much of a reaction early on.

Women are involved in sports and we will drop out if they are not accepted as an equal athelete. Which will doubt will happen.

Of course, women will be permitted to participate in the X Games and be treated as equal athletes (OOC-A female athlete will mathematically have the same chance of winning as a male athlete)

IberiaLustinia will partisapate! :gundge:

That's great. We'll just need the names of the participating athletes to finalize registration.

It will happen, but likely not on the scale I had hoped since interest really dipped down after the first day of sign-ups. As I said in the opening message, sign-ups will be open for two weeks, so expect them to go underway on November 3rd.

(OOC - Sorry for not getting this started earlier, I've been really busy with RL the past few days and haven't had any time at all to be on the computer.)

The Nationstates X Games will follow the schedule of X Games 10, which is posted here (http://expn.go.com/expn/summerx/2004/story?pageName=summerx_results_main). Also -- all nations which did not respond with a telegram will be given 5 points per event until a TG distributing points to the different events is recieved. Prelims will be bypassed, since there's no point in trimming a maximum of 14 athletes per event down to a final total of 12. Therefore, we'll go straight to the finals in all events.

CALISTA, 9 Nov 2004 - Colin Gewers came up big with a solid performance to win the gold. Mark Jeffries took the silver to complete a 1-2 for Kelssek in the skateboard street event, in the first day of X Games competition in Calista, Big Pimento which saw Kelssek win 4 medals.

Also winning gold was moto X legend Peter Mendu, who took the best trick with an amazing clean 360 for a score of 95.82, well ahead of Orion 999's Iovinius Antoninius Perella who won the silver with 89.24. Andrew Sallon was disappointed with a fourth place finish a quarter of a point behind Kelly Mikcel.

Said Mendu, "It was amazing, it feels great, no one's ever done that in competiton before, no, it has, but it's always ended up kind of sketchy but I was just going, "land it clean, land it clean" and I did, and it's just a huge feeling, the gold is just secondary to that rush you get when you've just landed a huge trick and got that whole crowd screaming their lungs out."

A flawless performance in his runs, capped off by a half-cab down the 8-set, won Colin Gewers the gold in the street competition, but he came up just short in the vert ramp with a silver.

"It was great on the street course, I was practically playing SKATE with myself, okay I did this, let's see if I can do something else, and I just kept building up I didn't even realise I'd landed that 8-set right at the end, I was just rolling and the horn went off and then I realised, hey! I didn't fall down! I landed it!, you know, then I realised I was going to win this thing."

Speaking about his silver in the vert ramp, Colin said, "Carlos [Enstrom] deserved to win, he was just untouchable out there, pulling stuff I'd never have tried, and he had the home crowd going nuts, but the silver's good too."

It was an understatement because in fact, it was a lot closer than that. Gewers scored only 1.38 points less than the Pimentoan, and the two seemed to playing a game of one-upmanship with their runs. Pierre Fournier finished sixth after bailing on a switch heelflip in his second run.

"That one really hurt me, but I was having fun, it's cool." he said, "I actually thought I'd smashed my ankle but it was just sprained."

It wasn't a wonderful day for Squornshelous as the X games began. After day 1, we have no medals, but do have one fourth place finisher. Chad Inman just missed out on a medal in the skateboard street competition. Chad wasn't quite able to pull even with Big Pimento's Mike Miller. "Fourth place is the worst feeling in the world," said Inman after the competition. I was goin for a huge score on my last two runs, but I bailed on my handstand each time. I shoulda had that medal but I just let it get away." Fellow Squornshelan Danny Varrel finished 8th in the same competition, and 10th in the skateboard vert comp. Tim Laws placed 7th. The Moto X best trick didn't bring any better luck to Squornshelous, with Karl Sanders placing 6th and Zane Jackson taking 9th. However, our best events are still to come and we expect to bring home at least 5 medals.

CALISTA, 10 Nov 2004 - Ryan Angler outjumped Rocco Tutto to win the Moto X Step Up gold at the X Games in Big Pimento, making the jump of 32.5 ft (9.9m) on his first try while Tutto just couldn't get over the bar.

"I just knew I was going to do it", Angler told reporters, "my main goal was to get it on the first try so Tutto wouldn't make it and then leave me desperate to do the same. But looks like it worked out the other way round."

Meanwhile, fresh off his victory in street, Colin Gewers couldn't find enough speed for the downhill skateboarding event and was knocked out at the semi-finals 3 seconds behind James Walls.

Looking ahead, Frank Archer and Bryan Andrews are both gunning for the gold in tomorrow's wakeboard event and surfer Marc-Andre Carriere will be looking to improve on his win at last month's Willsden Beach Open, leading his rival Simon Havanov to laugh off Carriere's claim.

Joked Havanov, who is also in the surfing event, "He only won cause I wasn't there."

Squornshelous fares well in days 2 and 3

Squornshelous goes into day four with 6 medals, in a variety of events. To start off day two, James Walls placed 3rd in the downhill skateboarding comp, with Liz Daniels missing out on semifinal qualification by 2.24 seconds. Squornshelous and Over Burn dominated the inline street competition, taking first through fourth place with the closest competitor being 2.37 points out. Squornshelans Nate Farely and Peter Jensen took 2nd and 3rd respectively, behind Over Burn's Gregorio Lopez. The Bike vert competition saw Squornshelous' Sandy Perez take Gold, our first of the games, by 2.1 points, while Rebecca Zill missed out on the bronze by just 2.33 points.
On day three, Stan Brak and Peter Green both finished fourth in their surfing heats, but Nate Farely brought home his second medal, this one silver, in the inline vert competition. Jack Norton finished 8th. In wakeboarding, Geogre Contra took 5th place, while Tracy Vasquez ended up in 9th. Sandy Perez added another gold medal, bringing her total to 2. This one was in Bike Stunt Park, where Jeff North finished 5th.
We anticipate good results in day four's Bike Stunt Dirt Finals, and hope to also sneak away with another medal in skateboard big air, which would leave us with 9.

On Fire In The Water

Mazinaw Journal, 11 Nov 2004

CALISTA - 17-year old wakeboarder Bryan Andrews took the competition by the neck and blew it away to win Kelssek's fifth gold at the X Games in Big Pimento, after surfer Marc-Andre Carriere won gold on the beaches. Kelssek now is the leader in the X Games medal tally with 5 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze - a counterpoint to the "conventional" atheletes' somewhat disappointing performance in the Kaza Olympics.

But no one cared about the failings of the swimmers or the nail-biting tension ahead in the Olympic campaign when Frank Archer, who won the bronze, picked up the kid he taught to wakeboard off the podium, tossed him into the water, then jumped in after him with a bottle of champagne.

Said Archer, "I'm really excited about Bryan. He's the future of this sport. It's great to see the kid who kept wiping out grow up to beat the world."

Meanwhile on the waves, Marc-Andre Carriere took the gold with 0.25 of a point better than Victor Caracas and Simon Havanov placed fourth in the final. On the land, Michael Barry took 7th place in the bike stunt park event, while Luc Deschamps and Robin Nakata found themselves outclassed on the inline vert ramp.

"The level of competition here is on a much higher level," said Robin, who won this year's Inline National Open in Mazinaw, "We're competing on a lower league. Inline isn't as big as skateboarding or other X Games things in Kelssek, so the results were predictable. We gave it our best and our best sucks", he laughed. Robin finished last in his event.
