NationStates Cricket

Cockbill Street
20-10-2004, 15:26
In a meeting today at Marylebone Road in Vimesbairn, figures high up in the Cockbill Street Department of Sports decided, along with several prominent foreign guests, to start a council to promote the sport of cricket in the NationStates community. This has been tried, with various success, several times, but the goal of the newly founded InterNationStates Cricket Council, or INSCC for short, is to "establish a stable framework for the development of the sport of cricket within NationStates, and to organise cricket tournaments for interested nations around all globes." The meeting was concluded by issuing the following invitation to all nations to come in and join the INSCC World Cup, a one-day tournament to be hosted by Cockbill Street. Recognising that cricket is a small, but hopefully growing, sport in the NationStates community, the INSCC aims to admit eight nations to the first World Cup.

Sign-up

A nation signs up by posting a squad of at least eleven players in this thread. The squad must include one wicketkeeper, at least five bowling options (bowlers, bowling all-rounders or batting all-rounders), and two opening batsmen. Each player may be classed in one of the following six categories: opener, specialist batsman, batting all-rounder, wicketkeeper, bowling all-rounder, specialist bowler. Similarly, each all-rounder or bowler must be classified as either fast bowler, medium-pace bowler or spin bowler. And also, three players in the team may be designated as "star" players - these players will have boosted performances. A sample sign-up post is shown at the very end of the thread.

Competition Details

An 8-nation World Cup is likely to start on Saturday - depending on whether eight nations have signed up. If not, then the start of the Cup will be postponed until enough nations have signed up. If the Cup starts on Saturday, it will be organised as four groups of two, with one match every second day. The top two in each group proceed to the semi-finals, which will be played on Friday 28th, and then the final will be played on Sunday the 30th. Results will be telegrammed from the semi-final onwards, otherwise posted in a separate RP thread for the World Cup.

Future Tournaments

The INSCC aims for one World Cup every two RL months, and this may be assumed to be equivalent to four NS years. In between Cups, each nation is obliged to invite another INSCC nation to a home Test series. A nation does not only have to arrange one Test series - more are encouraged, along with ODI and Twenty20 matches. If a nation fails to do so or ceases between Cups, it will be deemed inactive and not invited to the next Cup. Invitations for the next Cup will be sent out to active INSCC nations (i.e. those who have challenged others) around ten days before the Cup starts, but hosting bids may be accepted now. Hosts for the next Cup will have to generate scores using a program called Virtual Cricket 4 which the INSCC will distribute to the hosts, along with database files.

Invitations

An invitation to a tour should be sent by TG to the invited nation, and a copy should be sent by TG to the INSCC headquarters, c/c Cockbill Street's TG inbox. Such an invitation should include details of how many Test, ODI and Twenty20 matches are planned. The invited nation has a week to respond to the invitation, or the nation will be deemed inactive. Any nation can only play one match at a time, and can only be touring one nation at a time (though two or more nations may tour the same nation in ODI tournaments, for example). The results will be generated by the INSCC and TGed to the involved parties. In a Test-series, there will be one Test simmed every two days, and for ODIs and Twenty20 matches, there will be one match every day.

Role-Playing (RPing)

This is encouraged, and will give a small bonus through the tournaments and series. There will be a separate thread for the World Cup RPing, and for convenience to those who wish to read the RPs, the RPs for the national tours should be in the same thread (i.e. don't start a new thread for each Test series).

The Starblaydi Cricket Board has now found where we left our pads, and is signing a team up properly.

Starblaydia (who have purple caps with a wicket-bails-bat-ball motif overlaid on the golden eagle, or play in crazy purple PJs for the one-day affairs) draw their team from various Cricket Clubs around the nation, but I'm not telling you which ones until i make it up.

Given that it looks like the World Cup will be delayed for a while (3 sign-ups in two days doesn't bode well), there has been some 40-over warm-up matches for the teams already lodged in Cockbill Street. Despite the matches being warm-ups, the first elevens graced the grounds, to several thousand interested fans.

You put in tags (code) and (/code) on each side except you use square brackets ("[" and "]") instead of normal brackets ("(" and ")"). For an example, quote my post above (can't show it here because then it'd actually be coded...

For naming your team: Use notepad to compose it, then click reply to thread, then post it. That should help.

Statistics from the warm-up matches will be available on demand.

The Cup will be played on the following four stadiums:

Vimesbairn Cricket Ground, Vimesbairn

Age: 122 years
Cricket Club: CSCT County Cricket Club
Capacity: 84,000

http://www.geocities.com/versionizer/vimesbairn-cricket.jpg

A ground that hosted the Football World Cup twenty years ago, it has now reverted to its true cause - international cricket. It will host the final, one semi-final, and Group A matches involving Cockbill Street, who will be drawn into Group A automatically.

Northset County Cricket Ground, Chesham

http://www.geocities.com/versionizer/northset.jpg

Age: 38 years
Cricket Club: Northset County Cricket Club
Capacity: 62,000

A ground in the warm, desert-like north that has hosted several one-day cup finals, and recently could boast the first Streetian Twenty20 Cup final - which drew crowds of well over 40,000 - between Northset and Jeershire. Hardly any matches are rained out here, and Northset have drawn only four of their last one hundred Championship matches - while only one Test played here has been drawn. Several Group B matches will be played here.

Grubton Cricket Ground, Jorvik

Age: 54 years
Cricket Club: Grubton Cricket Club, Glitshire County Cricket Club
Capacity: 25,000

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/middle_america/antigua_barbuda/saint_john_recreation.jpg

A quaint stadium in a city with lots of wind. Could turn interesting if it blows from the sea, as it usually does, as there is no stand there and hence the wind has a tendency to blow balls pitched on leg stump to a wide outside off. Just a warning note for players. Group A matches not involving Cockbill Street will be played here.

Samandar County Cricket Ground, Byndham

Age: 69 years
Cricket Club: Samandar County Cricket Club, Gudswich Cricket Club
Capacity: 24,000

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_menu/tournaments/thumbnails/cricket_world_cup_2003/benoni.jpg

Samandar County houses many important football cities, such as Swyton and Roegrow, and they have drawn attention from cricket in many areas. However, it is hoped by the CSCB and the SCCC alike that the World Cup will rekindle interest in the sport here at Samandar. Group B matches will be hosted here.

And that is eight! Meaning that the draw will take place tomorrow (hopefully in the morning GMT), along with the first round of matches.

Note that the first XIs will be used, but there will be injuries, which means the player most alike to the player injured will enter the team (i.e. a specialist batsman gets injured, most likely a specialist batsman, an opening batsman or a batting all-rounder, in order of preference, will be called up). Sunny weather is likely for the Street all over the next month, so matches will likely not be called off for rain - or a reserve day will be used (don't worry, that doesn't mean the match will be finished the next day!)

The final list:

Cockbill Street
Starblaydia
NEWI Cefn Druids
Legalese
Austro-Arabia
Kaze Progressa
Vilita
Audioslavia

Good luck to all teams involved, and let's hope for a cracking tournament!

Cricketers Beaten Again By Chuckers
Bottom Of The World With Druids

VCG, VIMESBAIRN————With the Streetian captain and best batsman Leonard Midwarnock out through a serious injury, Cockbill Street's cricketers struggle to find their initially dismal World Cup effort. With Stewart and Franklin - supposedly the Streetians' strongest cards in bowling - straying more wayward than a broody deer, and reserve captain Ed Blain inexplicably choosing to bowl Stronginthearm for only seven overs, the Streetians let the Legalese 'Chuckers' gain a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Vizcain and Otake did the brunt of the damage, both smacking quickfire fifties under the fielding restrictions in the first fifteen overs and leading Legalese to 110 for 2 at the end of them. With Franklin actually managing to bowl somewhat of a line in first two overs, along with some serious piece of luck and a beautiful piece of fielding as Otake looked to straight drive him for six, the Street looked as though they might find a way to turn the tide - but the former baseballers found hitting at ease at the fast outfield in Vimesbairn. A seventh-wicket partnership between Glaub and McDougal for 117 runs settled the matter, as the Street were left to chase 300 to win.

Credit where credit's due - they did try. Legalese bowling mainly being on the stumps with exact length, to contain, Jenkins, Utheim and Walwich tried their best to hit out at it, and Utheim's 78 almost earned him Man of the Match honours. But with a sluggish Ivar Stonelover coming in at No. 4 at a well-positioned 77 for 2 after 14 overs. The Streeters, however, were left to rue his total lack of aggression, running, and power to hit boundaries. The only good thing he did was preserve his wicket - no, wait, that wasn't good, because even Harald Stronginthearm would have hit out better than that. He finished with 58 off 109 balls, and with that Cockbill Street finished 57 runs short. Stonelover moved to the top of the series batting averages, though, scoring 107 runs for once out.

DRUIDS SUCK AT CRICKET
Trefor Naylor on Druidish Cricket

OK, I know NEWI Cefn Druids aren't exactly Druida's favourite nation, so it makes it all the funnier when we see one of their teams getting repetitively thrashed! Currently, it is their cricket team that has been given the bashings.

After a convincing win in their first ever test match, Druidish cricket has been on the slide. They didn't win another test in the series, and, in their opening game of a triangular series against Krytenia and Starblaydia, they were comprehensively beaten again by Krytenia. Only Jan Ulrich Tete has put in any kind of consistant performance, but on the whole, it has been poor.

OOC: Thanks for the effort, but this was cancelled due to lack of RPing. If you want to get your own simulator and start something simpler, go right ahead...I know I can't keep up with this anymore...

Wow, how you guys manage all these? I'm seeing familiar names here, like Vilita, Legalese, Starblaydia, all from the Football World Cup. Now also in the cricket?
Football is enough for me.
