Descent Into Darkness-OOC Interest Thread

The Resurgent Dream
15-10-2004, 08:13
I'm going to be starting a thread featuring the Samhain festivities of the Empire very soon. This thread is to lay out background and groundrules, check the interest, and generally set up the thread. This thread is strictly OOC.

Any nation is welcome to show up. However, special attention goes to Endenia, Vastiva, Dragonsreach, Excalbia, Weyr, Esth. Akaton, Iansisle, Androtia, the Dominion, the Latin Union, and Lictoria.

Hey, I would have, but there was no special attention to me. ;)

Well, I love your threads, but our nations have never had any actual ic contact before so my government has no ic reason to give you special attention. You can have ooc attention though. ;)

1. No one's character dies, gets abducted, or anything similar without the player's permission. Handle this by telegram so people don't know what's coming in the thread. Please send a telegram to me as well as to the other nation involved.

2. I'm not looking for a war rp at this time. If the death of your character would result in a war, don't give permission for them to die. If someone asks for a character to be killed off, I will take that as an ooc indication that such a death would not result in war. If any declarations of war result later, I will likely ignore them.

3. Be reasonably patient with people who cannot post office.

4. In character, this thread starts at sunset October 31st and ends at sunrise November 1st. However, the real time that we will be playing will certainly start before then and will likely continue afterwards.

As a fantasy nation, the Resurgent Dream has certain magical characteristics specific to Samhain.

1. Anyone within the borders of the Resurgent Dream, during Samhain, forgets nearly everything that happens when the sunrises the next morning. A few fragments and dreamlike images remain. Said images are always those that help the person no themselves and their path better, rather than more practical details.

2. All fae enter their Unseelie (darker) personalities for the course of Samhain.

3. The dead walk among the living on Samahain. This does not merely refer to wraiths and ghosts but also to those who have truly passed on or those who currently walk the road between worlds.

4. All records (written, electronic, or otherwise) made on Samhain, fade from existence in the morning. This includes fingerprints and genetic material.

5. The physical results of actions taken on Samhain do remain. If you go to bed with someone embarassing, they're lying there in the morning. If you kill someone, the body remains as do most clues, excluding fingerprints and DNA evidence.

Diplomat makes the most sense. The invitation would be coming via your State Department, Foreign Ministry, or other equivalent government office.

So if I understand part two, correctly during the Samhain the darkside of one personality (which is normally supressed) become the dominate force in their personality.

I haven't done much fanatsy, but this does sound rather interesting. I'm just having a bit of a problem coming up with a character.

1. The government of the Resurgent Dream takes absolutely no responsibility for anything happening within its borders on Samhain.

2. All foreign visitors during Samhain must sign a statement indicating their understanding of rule 1.

3. The High Queen does not hold power on Samhain. The High Throne is held for one night by a Shadow monarch whose identity is only revealed at the beginning of Samhain and is forgotten afterwards.

4. The Shadow monarch is a mockery of nobility and rule. However, it is a ritualized, formal mockery that often demands the same rigid adherence as a normal imperial court.
The Resurgent Dream
15-10-2004, 09:21
Number 2 only applies to the fae of my nation or other nations that take a lot of their fantasy material from White Wolf's Changeling: The Dreaming. It doesn't directly effect others or even the humans of the Resurgent Dream. However, it should be noted that about half of fae are ruled by the darker side all the time. However, these far normally hold power only in Wintermore, one of the Resurgent Dreams six kingdoms.

The celebration itself will be a masque in the Imperial Palace. Ettiquette and formality are out the window but elegance and grace, albeit of a dark sort, are still expected. The danger is generally considered nil. No one has ever died at the Imperial Samhain Masque before, though Samhain marks a peek in murders everywhere else. Normal Samhain ettiquette is to dress in a way that pointedly defies the kind of person one normally is. For example, a warrior might wear an excessively foppish outfit, while a scholar might don armor for the first time.

Interesting ... just barely saw this. *grins* Any further info on how the atmosphere might have an effect on horribly mundane outsiders, or is this just open to interpretation and such - go with the spirit of things?

I can see some really cool opportunities here ... IF I can get motivated and posting like I should. Curse my lack of inspiration lately. (And I'll be out of town til later Sunday, but other than that ... no prob.)

It sounds like a dangerous but terribly intriguing thing, especially for my main character, who's been packed in cotton as best security could manage since that lil coup attempt. I'm trying to balance out other factors of what's going on ic'ly, but ... meh. It still sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

If I do send Nathi, I'd really, really rather she didn't get killed, though I'm not opposed to Bad Things™ short of that happening. No risk, no fun really, no?

Anyways, just some thoughts there while I mull this over. I appreciate the invite.

ps - what weapons, guards, and such are allowed, and how best to arrive? Spots for a small shuttle available?

Thank you. You should join in one sometime. I am definitely interested. I am a fantasy writer myself. My character will be a diplomat. If that be alright by you.
The Resurgent Dream
16-10-2004, 01:38
Nathi: Like I said, no one gets killed if their player isn't cool with that happening. I honestly doubt anyone will die in this thread (except one of mine, but that's a surprise). I just posted about it to cover all bases. Weapons and guards are allowed. You could find somewhere to park a shuttle but it might be a walk from the palace. There's no other overt magical effects but as to your state of mind...just remember that the no memory thing means Nathi or whoever you send can follow just about any whim with essentially no consequences cause no one will remember. Granted, Weyr did find a way to get around that if they really needed to but still...

Menelmacar: Would love to have you.

Amanda: I know. I saw your post. I like your diplomat already.

The Resurgent Dream

Cool, cool. By the way, there's no rule against bringing a car but the streets really aren't made for them, there won't be any gas stations, and there's a few people who might be offended. You wouldn't be able to rent or hire one here unless it's from a foreign embassy,
The Resurgent Dream
17-10-2004, 08:48
Feel free to mingle with any character described so far. It's what they're there for. Everyone will probably get a lot more personal attention now that I've done most of the set up stuff, for a good while anyway.

I think I'll send Lord Draconis. Since he is married to Aiwyn, and she is already back in Resurgent Dream, I'll just assume Draconis is already there. For those who don't know who he is, here's a little information.

Name: Lord Phaeton Draconis (he rarely uses his first name)
Gender: Male
Race/Species: Akatani High Elf
Age: 425 years (looks like 35)
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 180 lbs
Eye Color: Bright blue
Hair Color: Mostly black with silver streaks (Akatani elves tend to have rather unusually colored hair)
Occupation: Emperor of Akaton

As Draconis is an elf, what sort of effect would the Samhain have on him?
The Resurgent Dream
17-10-2004, 17:54
Same as on any other non-fae.

The Resurgent Dream

Zynopha: What are you doing? First of all, the event is only 24 hours. Second of all, see the OOC rules about killing. I haven't seen any telegrams from you about such plans. Please read the rules at the beginning of this thread before posting further in the other.

I'd love to help, but Draconis is married. Then again, he isn't human at all, so...
The Resurgent Dream
21-10-2004, 06:01
You wouldn't have to order her to do anything dirty. You could just make her fetch you drinks, grovel, etc. Contrary to bad internet erotica, most servitude does not involve any sex.
Akaton
21-10-2004, 06:07
Quite true, but I assume Draconis will be getting his own unusual order from the Shadow Queen shortly anyway.
Dread Lady Nathicana
21-10-2004, 06:11
A'ight then. May as well clarify, for those not familiar. I'm up for whatever that way. All sorts of ways to handle things, after all. No one's gonna remember, and well ... Nathi has always been one to do what she wants. Anything short of death, dismemberment, or pleaselordnoawful disfigurement and the like ... well yeah. I'm willing to play along to a large extent really.

Rather, I'd prefer not to lose this character if at all possible, as I've still got some things to wrap up there, but ... yeah. Anyways, rambling. Again. Long day. Bwaha.

As was pointed out - servitude != sex slave, for those concerned, nor am I looking for some hot cyb0r action and such that way - not the purpose for joining in the thread. Not opposed to it either. Just looked like fun, and was happy to be invited. Figure that clarifies ... yes?
The Resurgent Dream
21-10-2004, 06:18
Yes'm. And no killing in this thread without permission, both from the victim's player and myself. I know I've said that several times but..bears repeating.

Now that I have my character dancing, like RD's Queen wanted her, what is next for her? No one is talking to her and her personality is directive, but this is out of her league, especially her outfit. Do you think I should have her interrupt people's conversation or just wait?
The Resurgent Dream
21-10-2004, 19:20
There's a number of other people not engaged in conversation right now. Victoria, Vor, Pedro, Nianki, Vicotira, Aiwyn, Agwene, Danwyth, Corrina plus all the miscellaneus party goers. Go up to any of those and ask them to dance or just talk.

22-10-2004, 00:01
Thought I might as well post some preliminary character profiles here for you peeps:

President Pedro Marquez of the Latin Union
Age: 36
Height: 5' 9"
Frame: Not pudgy, moderately muscular, probably average male frame for his age.
General Appearance: Very dark brown hair, done short in a swept-back style, simple, thick mustache, brown eyes, darker skin. His age shows because of his job, but he bears it very well and is handsome in his own way. He carries himself in a dignified manner, but when in a less formal setting walks a little more carelessly, resembling a university student.

First Lady Victoria Marquez of the Latin Union
Age: 34
Height: 5' 7"
Frame: Thin and athletic.
General Appearance: Black hair worn long, very attractive face, chocolate brown eyes, modestly-sized bust, long legs, darkly-tanned skin. She is currently a Captain of Artillery in the Latin Army, and the training has made her carry herself like a soldier in threatening or uncomfortable situations, but in all other settings she bears a feminine grace that is one of combined maturity and youth.
Picture here. (https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/michelas/www/young%20victoria%20marquez.jpg)
(Note: This was a fashion photo Mrs. Marquez took before she joined the Army, as she was trying to pay for her university education, a year or two before she met Pedro. She looks pretty much the same today, just a bit older.)

Gah - getting too poetic for an OOC thread.

OOC: Trust me. I know how to rp, and i was serious. Too bad... I'll ignore both of you and i'll be on my way... I hope you two expire.
Right. You're the one who demands money from nations in threads that don't have anything to do with war in the first place? Sure......Anyway. I never said I'm ignoring you. If you want, we'll start a separate thread and Weyr will protect its ally and unhappily turn your nation into a toxic waste dump.
The Resurgent Dream
23-10-2004, 00:51
I'm not going to comment on how seriously I take randomly threatening countries 30 times your size. Thread rules are a different matter. If you'd read the OOC thread or telegrammed politely, as courtesy requires when you're looking to start a war, you'd have realized that isn't what this thread is for. Besides which, if you'd read the thread and knew how to rp, you'd see that sending such a message on Samhain would be utterly pointless. No one will remember it and its contents will fade.

Well. Mephet hasn't had one, but he is trying to avoid such things really.
