A New Home in the Stars

A few months after the asteroid Mathilde entered a stable Martian orbit, the asteroid Ida and it’s small satellite, Dactyl, arrived in the Earth system. The thermonuclear pulse engines had maneuvered the giant rock to L5, where it would orbit the dimple in Earth’s gravity well directly opposite the asteroid fortress Solomon.

For many months the rock was honeycombed with tunnels while minerals were excavated. The extracted materials were refined, and manufactured into pieces for the 32km long Island Three colonies designed by Dr. Gerard O’Neil in 1974 CE. It would take years for each colony to be completed, and the first had just been completed enough for colonization.

Eight years since the rock arrived, and ten since TAR was driven from Liebermonk, the first colonists could move into their new home, safe from invasion by most aggressors. The group of colonies that would be constructed would be close enough to Solomon to be defended quickly, and Bryn Shander had donated twelve mothballed Musai Class cruisers and the mobile suits for each to Liebermonk for defense. Pilots and crews had been trained for the twelve cruisers and the thirty six suits. Hopefully, in time, Liebermonk could defend it’s self.

With wonderous joy the last of the selection processes have finished. It was made certain who and when would be traveling to the colony on Dactyl. The first to go would be a combination of military personell in the newly created Liebermonkian Air Force and Liebermonk's greatest scientists. After ensuring that no sabatoge would be attempted, the military personell would give the all clear for the scientists to travel up. After these few have assessed the safest and most efficient placements for the buildings, a team of architects would be sent up to begin the construction of the public works and other necessary buildings. Citizens would not be sent up until the near completion of the construction. Once all is safe the masses of people would be sent up. 95% of the citizens are willingly leaving, the remaining 5% is the elven population. They have agreed to remain in their own lands, and use the rest of the Liebermonk countryside for farming to be used to feed the Liebermonk population. The President of Liebermonk thanked the elves for their kindness and hopes for a future of closer relatoins between the two. In the past, especially during the occupation of Liebermonk, the LieberElves remained particularly distant for their own saftey. Now, Queen Lerathen of the LieberElves has radically changed her stance so that all Liebermonkians can look forward to a brighter future. Queen Learathen and the President would also like to thank Bryn Shander many many times for its kindness to other nations.
