Food exports recalled! Pouliot's agriculture in trouble!

In a statement today, The Pouliotan government, declared that the country would not be able to fulfill most orders of fruit, vegetable, beef, barley, corn and wheat.Due to a booming population and a recent drought, this year's yield has dropped to an abysmal, all-time record low.
This will probably heavely impact the Pouliotan economy, considering it's low level of industrialisation.
The Pouliotan government has already taken measures to keep food shipments within it's borders and redirected them for domestic use.

Here's a graph more accurately showing the present agricultural situation in Pouliot at the moment.

OOC : Pouliot and Mauricie were trading food in exchange for manufactured products. Without the food from Pouliot the maurician population will see it's food variety plunge down to nothing and there won't be much of that low diversity. The maurician agriculture is specialized in wheat and corn and most of it already went to domestic comsumption. In answer to this, the output of the maurician factories will be slowly be diverted from Pouliot toward other clients that will supply my country with food. As a good part of my factories were producing for Pouliot, it will take a long time before more food will come to Mauricie. Mauricie's production plans are somewhat rigid and cause that slow time of reaction.

Official statement

In response to the stopped exports of food to Mauricie, the maurician council has decided to only complete the current orders of machine parts, automotive products (including agricultural machinery), basic electronics and other manufactured products and then stop their export to Pouliot. They will be traded to other nations for foodstuffs. We are sorry to make that commercial move, but we have to think of Mauricie first.

Following the news of near food shortages, shipyards are ordered to rush the production of small fishing ships and to slow or hold indefinately other projects like military ships or cargos. older ships that were going to be sold for scrap metal are going to be fitted with fishing equipement.

The council think that all these ships will provide some food from the meager ressources the seas around Mauricie provides.

Being a short-term and temporary solution, the council hope that the fish population can support the extra fishing until food from trades can come in.

This is PNN, the most trusted name in news!

A news anchor, visibly a bit sleepy, starts to read from the cue cards.

''Good morning Pouliot! This is PNN, giving you your daily recommended dose of news!''

''The trade balance is worrying economists more and more.
Since most of it's exports stopped and considering the imports are still pretty much the same, experts say we are in a vulnerable position right now. Leading economists of Pouliot suggest that we decrease imports as fast as possible. They say it is the only short-term solution we have, by the time we'll have to worry about long-term the next crops will be in, anyway. Also..... studies have proven that....... a commercial.......''

The anchor's head slams into his desk, immediately followed by a loud snore and an awkward silence.

Then a voice spoke from behind the camera.

''Can I poke him?''

A major corporation in Mauricie has begun using all it's controlled medias to despise and mock Pouliot. The corporation being the first food chain in the country, ( among others things ) the sudden stop of food supplies are making it lose most if not all of their profits. They might even go in the red. The stocks of the corporation has already dropped 50% and are not looking to rise back up anytime soon.

The secret media campaign against Pouliot is starting slow and will hurt the reputation of Pouliot in Mauricie. It will have little to no effect at first, but may have bigger effect if the campaign is slowly scaled up. The campaign is run with no goal in mind other then hurt Pouliot reputation. After all, the medias had spots to fill in their airwaves/pages. (no widespread television in Mauricie yet)

OOC : no TNNN yet?, good ;)

Some factories that had not found new clients have been nationalized and used to produce new military equipement. They will be producing anti-aircraft, anti-tank guns/cannons and trucks to move them. These will equip coastal brigades with new dedicated unit inside the brigade. The old multi-purpose artillery will still be used as coastal guns.

This investment will hopefully prevent a recession in Mauricie. The economy has already begun to cool down from the lack of food imports and product exports.

Good quantities of fish are being shipped to food outlets daily. *mocking tone* The Green party seems to be outraged that mauricians need to eat to live. Some factories have found new clients for export and are shipping to them from the overstocked warehouses.

*Dark and serious tone* With enough time and work, Mauricie will recover from the economic blow Pouliot has given us.

That was the evening news from MMCRS 101,3.

Good night Mauricie.

This is PNN, the most trusted name in news!

A news anchor sits down, he looks fine but his nose his pretty red.

Images of waiting lines, construction sites and army bases fill the screen.

'Everywhere in Pouliot, recruiting offices are full! People are pushed into joining the army by closing businesses, prices hikes and even hunger.
Recruiting Officers are working around the clock to take care of the onslaught of new recruits.'

'However, the army is doing surprisingly well acommodating the new recruits. Decomissioned bases are in the proccess of being reopened, and few of them are even being built from scract in various parts of Pouliot.'

The news reporter starts talking in a joyful voice.

'Let's look at what the newspaper can offer us today.'

http://img14.exs.cx/img14/6234/news8.jpg

'To explain this to us, we have a guest this morning, he teaches economics at PIE (Pouliot's Institute of Economy). Hi Rob.'

'Hi Jeremy.'

'Tell us, what's going wrong with the economy?'

'Well Jeremy, I could ramble about that for hours longs but i'll keep it short.'

'We only have 3 minutes.'

'Erm, well, there is less and less things to buy and way too much money going around. Goods are starting to cost more because imported goods stopped coming in but everyone still wants them. We're going to fall terribly short of various essential items'

'So, you're telling us we're screwed right?'

'Yep.'

We thank you for your generous offer. We gladly accept it. The port of Brimol is currently getting ready for the arrival of your goods. A logistic chain is being set up to distribute the aid to where it is needed.
Rest assured that we will remember your help and we will do our best to repay you when things get better. Hopefully next year, after the harvest season.

Once again, thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

-Tolore Army Base, deep in the central forests of Pouliot.

"Run you scumbags! Run"

A platoon of men, the younger being 18 and the older 42, were running on a dirt road, circling the camp, a seargent running beside them.

"My mother runs faster than you guys!"

The old base was reopened, the barracks had been recently cleaned, but still smelled funny. The whole base looked old and smelled funny.

The platoon of men slowly jogged down a slope, toward their barrack, oblivious to the coming hard times.
They were soldiers now, part of the glorious fourth division. The Black Shadows.

"I hope you guys enjoy your comfy beds tonight. You might not see them in a while."

Field exercises were getting more and more frequent, everything was done to get the new recruits trained as fast as possible.

"I want you guys to take live ammo tommorow, we are going to check if any of you can hit the side of a barn."

Soldiers were surprised, they used some real ammo at basic firearms training , but they usually used blanks when going on field exercises.

A soldier whispered....

"Only time will tell."

TO: The Honored minister of Agriculture, Jeremy Smith.

As of 1:00 P.M ST (Shu Time) The Beef and cheese exports have started.
Once again I apologize for the small quantity but hope it will alleviate some discomfort to your citizens.

Minister Smith, I hope I am not over stepping my bounds here, but being a nation of arbitrators, Relegious groups (of all relegions), and Scientist we realize that in these trying times even the best citizens may become "unruly".
If I may be so Bold....Our "Sister Nation" has an Arms manufacturing plant and I may be able to talk them into a Donation for your soon to be overtaxed Police forces.
The Peoples Republic of Shu_B would also like to set up Red Cross stations to help distribute food and medicines.. (And provide any Relegious guidance).

Respectfully yours,

The two young soldiers were man-handling a brand new krupt 37mm anti-tank cannon into a small concrete gunpit.

''Why do we have to do all the pushing around here?''

Another soldier, wearing a combat engineer badge was sitting in the shade of a tree watching both Gus and Alec get the cannon into place.

''Because while you two were at the practice range having fun with all sorts of big toys, i was here doing the construction work. I freaking dug that hole, just to fill it with concrete and make sure it was up to ''military standards''

''So what?'' responded Gus, ''I bet we carried more weight in ammo then you carried in earth anyway.''

Tristan got up slowly, stretched, and said ''Guess what, because i fell nice, i'll help you guys with the ammo, we got two more caches to do before the weekend.''

''What?, we already have four caches, each with plenty of rounds, why do we need two more?''

''I don't know, and i don't care, HQ will have to stop sending us stuff somehow. The whole brigade has work for at least one month with all the new toys they sent us.''

''Bah.''

The two privates finished bolting the cannon into the pit and started splashing crude camo painting on it. Corporal Tristan went to the front of the cannon and with chalk wrote ''Small Bertha''. The two privates stared at him but then rolled their eyes.

''What?, i always wanted a big gun, but i'll settle for this one.''

At noon, they went into a small casemate with a ventilator and ate some ''PPM''(pre-packed-meals). They went about moving boxes of ap and he ammo to separate close locations the rest of the day.

Part of a MMCRS 101,3 newsreport.

''Small riots broke out today in downtown St-Louis after a severe food shortage struck more and more food outlets.

These shortages are due to a major gridlock on interstate 85 caused many trucks to be stuck in traffic and unable to deliver the much needed food in St-Louis.

St-Louis's police forces managed to contain the riots to a retail district and limit the damages to the minimum possible. Estimated two hundred has been arrested under various charges of looting, arson, vandalism, assault and resistance to arrest. Police reported around 45 wounded but no deaths.''

We currently have an overstock of non-perishable goods (including vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains, and drinks) that we would be glad to share for a small price. Our researchers have learned of a possible deposit of a rare element, tritium, located in the suburbs of your capital city. In exchange for a vast amount of aid we ask only for research and mining rights in this area. Please know that if we are allowed to mine the tritium in that location, the mining will only take about five years (5 RL days) to complete with minimal impact on the surroundings.

Radio message to UDA Administration :

''We accept your deal. However, we would like to have a small quantity of this ''tritium'' to perform scientific research on it. We also would like to send geologists and mining engineers to observe so we can mine this material ourselves if another source is located in the future.

We thank you for your generosity with the large amounts of food. Docks and other transports are ready to unload it and ship it to distribution stations around the country.''

We thank you for the offer, we will let you set up stations around the western islands, the most hardly hit part of the country.

However, you need to know a few things...

Christians are the most numerous group, most other religions are a minority.
Even if the government respect the right that every citizen have to religion, I'd be careful about providing 'religious guidance'.

Since times going up to the middle ages, the population of Pouliot reacts very swiftly against anyone trying to spread hate.

Also, there is no threat to security right now. There has been a few(mostly peaceful) riots here and there, but nothing serious. We once again thank you for your kindness. May God/Allah/Buddha/Whatever be with you.

-21h34, Icedanc naval base.

The naval yards were filled with activity, never seen by most workers. Several half-built ships could be seen in drydocks. Most of them were passager ferries along with a few destroyers, all of moderate size.

One ship, however, stood out. The PS Leadbow, 750 feet long, was destined to be the future flagship of Pouliot's Navy. It sported 6, 14 inch cannons, 4 on the on the front and 2 on the back. To support those huge cannons(who were pretty long to reload) it had 12, 4,5 inch guns, 2 on the back, 6 on the sides and 4 on the front. Various anti-aircraft cannons of lesser caliber were scattered around the ship.

The ship and it's numerous crew(105 officers and 1,800 enlisted) were the new pride of the nation's navy.

The ship was scheduled to be completed within 2 months.

Here's a picture of the ship, earlier in the construction stages.

Forgive me! Perhaps you misunderstood "relegious Guidance".
Our Nation Supports and is ruled by Only the most Loving and Tolerant Relegions. Christianity is definately one of these. So Our Christian Compatriots are as of now assembling the necessary components to set up shelters and food distribution centers and Locations that you deem necessary.

We are pleased that no threats to security have manifested and hopefully never will.

One Point though Minister, If you Please, Your "War" efforts (i.e. the most impressive PS Leadbow) have caused concern. The Peoples Republic of Shu_B Respectfully asks that any aid received by us, NOT be used by your Military if Aggressive action toward another nation (or Civilians in your own nation) is being carried forth.

Yours respectfully,

Secret IC :

The little boat accosted the old and smelly cargo ship. It was undetected due to the night and the noise the cargo made. A man on the boat threw a matted hook that caught the ship's balustrade. The passagers of the boat quickly climbed on the ship with the rope that was attached to the hook. Dressed in black from toe to cap and armed with submachine guns they were a fearsome bunch to see. They easily cleared the ship from it's civilian crew. They then launched a bright white flare in the air to order another ship to come board the cargo. It carried sailors that knew how to operate the lifting equipment from the old cargo. They transfered specific boxes from the cargo to the newly arrived ship. Mostly sensitive machine parts and spare parts. After the deed was done, they stuck explosives on the cargo, set a very long fuse and left on the other ship. Twenty mimutes later, the explosives blew up and the cargo broke in two and sank quickly.

Two days later

The T.M.S Tour was assigned on patrolling duty, ''Again'' it's captain thought, some civilian vessel didn't made it to destination and he had to find it.

''How much is the pot at again?'' asked the captain to his second.

''One thousand four hundred bucks, with bets ranging from five to seventy-five kilometers drift.'' replied the second

He never won any of these frequent betting pools his crew were making up, but always participated anyway to keep more contact with his crew.

He made another sweep with his binoculars, but this time something got his attention, the sea of debris from the cargo.

''Better call the bets off, everybody loses.''
