The Resurgent Dream

Margaret Campbell knelt before King Gregory, offering her sword. The human woman was in her finest gown of deepest purple with genuine gold lining woven in. The gown was a ridiculously complicated affair, with ornate patterns of frills and slashes. The woman was pretty enough for a woman of her age, 42. She had golden blond hair and deep blue eyes. Her skin was smooth and fair with only a few faint lines. Still, compared to the sidhe filling to audience chamber, her beauty was nothing. She knew most of them viewed her as no different from the servants flitting about in the halls. She saw the resentment in their eyes, the anger. She knew that not one noble in all the realm supported the king's decision. Still...
Margaret was shocked out of her revelry when Gregory stood, taking the offerred sword. He lightly tapped her on each shoulder. "Margaret Campbell, we name you Lady Margaret, knight of our court, and grant to you the position of Chancellor of the royal household, Lady Chancellor of Holista."
