“What can be said that hasn’t already been said? Well a lot seeing nothing has been said, but that’s beside the point, if there is a point and if it’s beside the point maybe I can find the point, by finding out what has been said.” -Manager Dan Waffler.
“We were unlucky, to say the least, the ref made a few bad calls, infact more than a few, he was bloody bias. I’m not normally one to point the finger, but he was corrupt, the Krytenians must have been paying him, I know we were. Mustn’t have been enough though.” -Centreforward Ernie Fulbackenmackenlackener.

Coach Terry Mangione announced the roster for the third U21 competition for the Sarzonian Junior Stars:
ROSTER (starters in BOLD)
GOALKEEPERS:
30 Brian Tawes (Burlington Braves - minor league): This 18 year old bypassed college to sign with the Braves and has earned the starting job with the team. With former starter Mark Tanner now competing for a spot on the senior national team, the job is his to lose.
18 Horace Sandt (Crow College, Portland): This 19 year old had a dismal experience at his first Under 21 Cup, but he will be counted on to provide more experience now that the team has its legs under them.
DEFENDERS:
3 Mark Clark (Syosset University): Just 18 years old, he earned a starting job as a freshman for his football savvy and earned a high school diploma at 16 because of his off-field smarts.
12 Landon George (University of New Isselmere): This 20 year old plays like a cagey veteran, even compared to senior national teamers, and is expected to challenge for a spot on a very crowded backline. Unfortunately, much of that savvy comes from a lack of speed. He'll play sweeper in a 3-5-2 alignment.
13 Daniel Trautwig (Bausch State College): Transferred to BSC after the destruction of his university in a nuclear strike, Trautwig quickly earned a starting job as a right halfback despite his relative youth (19 years of age).
14 Russ Cochrane (Benatar University): Caught the eye of Knights management during his senior season of high school, but this 20 year old signed on to play college ball because he didn't feel ready for the rigors of SFC competition.
27 Trevor Bonstock (Randolph): Plays more effectively as defender or defensive midfielder so he'll come in to allow Conley to play attacking mid if necessary. Turned 20 last week.
MIDFIELDERS
8 Barry Conley (Randolph Reavers - minor league): A distant cousin of defender Mike Conley, this 19 year old shares his relative's speed but also his propensity to get out of position.
9 Valentin Kienzl (Tyrol Tigers - minor league): He just turned 18, but played a vital role in the Junior Stars' success in their first-ever U21 competition with his dangerous left side free kicks. Is currently competing with the senior team in the AOCAF tournament.
10 Bryon Crosson (Woodstock City College): A dangerous central midfielder at 20, helped the Woodstock City College team to a number one ranking during the season.
18 Fred Bartylak (St. George Saints - minor league): Just turned 20, he can play either defensive or attacking midfielder, but struggles on the flanks. As a result, will play attacking midfielder to allow Conley to play defensive mid.
24 Dustin Manley (Woodstock Wild): A reserve on the three time SFC championship team, this 20 year old has a potentially lethal free kick from the right side.
20 Carlos Gonzales (St. George): Emigrated to Sarzonia when he was 4, this 20 year old brings a lot of football savvy to the national U21 team.
FORWARDS:
25 Wilton James (New Daurmont Nighthawks - minor league): This 19 year old plays withdrawn forward for the Nighthawks but can play striker when the need calls for it.
26 John Clinton (Lorber State University): Clinton set a school record with 22 goals his freshman season. At 18 years old, has potential to be a dangerous forward for years to come.
17 Carter Buck (Woodstock): Rarely gets on the pitch for his club's senior side, but plays extensively on the reserve team. At just 17 years old, Buck is on the verge of getting some playing time with the traditional powers of the SFC. Is known for his dangerous first touch.

Junior Stars have senior position in Group
The Sarzonian U21 national team opened the first match of its post-Kenny Cooper era by putting on a clinc of Cooperesque proportions, and the Junior Stars opened their third appearance in the Under 21 World Cup with an impressive 5-2 win over Kaze Progressa.
Forward John Clinton scored two goals and assisted on one other to lead the way, and Coach Terry Mangione joked, "Kenny who," when asked about the team's first World Cup appearance without the team's all-time leading goalscorer.
"Kenny did a great job for us," Mangione said. "He's doing a wonderful job in the AOCAF tournament for the senior team. But players get older and you have to show that you can plug in a new generation of footballers and still win."
Goalkeeper Brian Tawes won his first start as the number one netminder for the Junior Stars after former starter Mark Tanner reached his 21st birthday. He won a competition with former national team reserve keeper Horace Sandt for the starting job, but Mangione said "we'll need both guys.
"Brian's in there because he has more experience," Mangione said. "But don't count Horace out if he can get his game behind him."
The Junior Stars (1-0-0) are currently in first place in Group C, with Audioslavia and regional rivals Crystilakere drawing 3-3 in the other Group C matchup. The Junior Stars won their only previous meeting with Kaze Progressa, 5-3 in the first round of the fourth U21 championship, which saw the Stars advance to the quarterfinal round before losing.
"It's definitely too early for anyone to make plans for the next round," midfielder Valentin Kienzl (three assists) said. "But we can celebrate this win tonight but we'll have to be right back out there tomorrow."

Under-21s Line-Up for Title Attempt
Team Look to Better Third Place
After a dramatic performance in the last tournament that saw Starblaydia's Under-21s make it all the way to 3rd Place, the team, now seeded Second in the world, will be looking to go all the way this time. Having bagged twenty goals on they way to that third place, insiders hope that the 5-4-1 system with Wing-Backs will give them the perfect balance between attack and defence.
Some of these players are already first-team choices in the Alpha Division, while many others are being groomed for greatness in a few years time. The squad is as follows:
Starblaydia U21 Roster and selected Biographies (Staring XI in bold)
1. Gavin Thornley, Goalkeeper, 19, Jinal Cove (Vilitan Stellar)
Discovered at Top Vilitan side Jinal Cove, Thornley's first aim will be to perform well in this tournament, before taking the title of 'Starblaydia's best young 'keeper' from Markus Cragg.
2. Rigoberto, Right Wing-Back, 16, Jhanna United (Beta Division)
Part of the young and sturdy United defence, Rigoberto would be classed as an out-and-out right winger were it not for his tackling ability.
3. Paulo Bachchan, Centre/Left-Back, 16, Jhanna City (Beta Division)
One of the young players trying to drag the ageing City team away from a relegation battle, Paulo is the classier of the two centre-backs.
4. Jerome Montefalcon, Defending/Centre-Midfielder, 17, Hersch Albion (Gamma Division)
One of the few bright-sparks at the Albion, Jerome's game is said to be suffering at the hands of poorer players. A transfer to a higher division may help his career no end.
5.Tommas Piper, Centre-Back, 17, Hallad Reavers (Alpha Division)
Just like all the Reavers players, Tommas is big, strong and fierce. He'll throw himself in front of anything if it helps the cause of his team.
6. Jean-Pierre Durand, Sweeper, 20, Iskara Daii (Alpha Division)
Already the rock at the heart of the Daii's defence, big-lean-giant Jean is a shoe-in for the middle of any defence.
7. Tetsuo Naoki, Centre/Attacking-Midfielder, 17, Vecchio Victors (Alpha Division)
This little product of the Vic's Youth academy is about ready to make his debut for the full side. Pace and positioning are his main weapons. HAd a brilliant AOCAF3 by any standards
8. Geraint Evans, Right-Midfielder, 16, Hallad Reavers (Alpha Division)
Seemingly the only non-psychopath in the Reavers side, half-Druidish Evans is a classy right-midfielder
9. Jakkinho, Striker, 19, Vecchio Victors (Alpha Division)
The best young Striker in the nation, Jakkinho wil spearhead the Starblaydi attack this time around
10. Marco Del Blanco, Attacking-Midfielder/Centre-Foward, 15, Iskara Daii (Alpha Division)
Only on the bench for tactical and formation reasons, Marco will be sure to prove his worth whenever he comes on the pitch.
11. Jose Tirado, Left-Midfielder, 15, Internashionale (Alpha Division)
Having cleaned Stefan Haldorsson's boots at inter, Jose is hoping to fill in for him in the future.
12. Fernando De Marco, Goalkeeper, 16, Corinthian Spirits (Alpha Division)
Anyone who's touted as the club successor to record international cap holder Boaz Myhill is worthy of respect, and Fernando will certainly be keeping his fair share of clean sheets.
13. Jamie Majeed, Centre-Back, 16, Iskara Daii (Alpha Division)
14. Vengelis Koentas, Left-Back, 17, Hecia (Gamma Division)
This Big, strong defender should look more at home in the centre, but with his speed and delivery down the left-hand side, he's perfect for a left-back.
15. Elroy Velasquez, Midfielder, 15, Hallad Reavers (Alpha Division)
16. Fernando Branco, Defending-Midfielder, 15, Basian Valley (Beta Division)
17. Julio Matis, Forward, 15, Penningworth United (Beta Division)
18. Kurt Recinos, Forward, 14, Hersch Albion (Gamma Division)
19. Cody Joachim, Goalkeeper, 12, Montepool Waves (Beta Division)
20. Giorgos Kasiouras, Centre-Back, 16, Veles (Gamma Division)
21. Stelios Doukas, Midfielder, 15, Tournetas (Gamma Division)
22. Stefanos Stantzos, Midfielder, 14, Tournetas (Gamma Division)
23. Ilias Provatidis, Forward, 13, Hecia (Gamma Division)
Team Formation:
De Marco
Durand
Bachchan Piper
Rigoberto Koentas
Montefalcon
Evans Tirado

Your Starter for Four
Starblaydi Under-21s get a winning beginning in Group of Pestilence. Death was already taken, you see.
Tetsuo Naoki and Jakkinho continued their fine vein of scoring as they bagged three of Starblaydia's four goals, with Naoki getting a brace. The opposition, Kirata, were no match for the fine defending and pinpoint striking of the young Starblaydis.
"Our young Tetsuo kid is doing great," says random passer by Billy-Joe Potemkin, "that's his eighth goal for his country in all competitions. What a talent."
Forward-minded Right-Wing-Back Rigoberto was also on the scoresheet as Starblaydia dominated from start to finish. This is exactly the type of performance that Starblaydia needed to settle them down before the other matches, against Regional Neighbours Aquiliana, who are just a stone's throw away form Starblaydia across the sea. Of course, stone- or any other type of missile- throwing is not condoned by the Starblaydi Football Association. The other side in Group H are Maserrat, downed 4-1 today by the Aqulianans.
Final Score:
Starblayda 4 - 0 Kirata
(Naoki 18 & 36, Jakkinho 27, Rigoberto 58) - (None)

The Bedistan Sports Digest
What the Hell Just Happened?
FA disgraced by U21 loss
TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY -- That's the name of the nation where the match was played, but it's also a pretty apt description of the result. The Bedistani goalkeeper, as yet unnamed (the FA was unusually secretive about the side this year), let five Jeruselem goals into the net (though one didn't count due to an offside violation), with his apparently slumbering offense completely unable to reply.
"This is an absolute disgrace," remarked new BFA president Johnny Lewis. "I have never seen a worse performance from a Bedistani national team in fifty years! If this is the best youth talent we have, we might as well not even bother entering World Cups 19 or 20."
Prior to the match, the players were very unhappy about their names being unknown to the world at large, but this reporter imagines they are quite relieved about that now. It'll save them the embarrassment.
Final score:
Jeruselem 4
Bedistan 0
Some people are less unhappy, though, mainly those who went for the 75-1 official odds on that result. Bedistani bookmakers did make a very large overall profit, though, to the tune of about þ16 billion.

5-2? We won right?
No, we lost.
5-2 loss? to Oaker?
Oaker.
*panic starts to go around in the FA office of The Eagle's Nest*
There's no way. What happened?
I don't know. Something about 2 red cards in teh second half put us two men down.
2 RED CARDS? ON WHO?
I don't know...the newswire isn't saying. wait, 3 Red Cards. Oaker got a yellow in the incident.
3 RED CARDS?!?! *A chair goes flying.* Who's coaching this team?
Um....you never hired a coach for the U21 team. So the Captain is.
He's coaching from the pitch? DEAR LORD. we're screwed this cup around aren't we?
Possibly. Maybe we'll do better in our next two matches. TnUI lost as well. And they are accusing Krytenia of beng corrupt and buying the refs.
Would that help us...if we sent a check....
stop it.
but..but...we have to do good. this affects our main team's ranking.
stop it.
but but....I mean, HE'LL have our heads. It'll be bad it'll be OH LORD WE'RE GOING TO ......
*a small rubber mallet appears behind him and bops him on the head knocking him out.*
Thanks George. Now hopefully we can do something about our next game.

I just noticed the new formula I copied from the 48 sheet was the old formula, somehow it mustn't have been saved which is annoying, I'll just leave the results as they stand seeing there was nothing wrong with the old formula and change to the new in the 2R+.
Leader of Druida Treovr Smith is talking to Druida under-21s coach Trefor Jones.
"How did it go?"
"I'm not sure, sir."
"What do you mean, you're not sure?"
"Well, I was keeping count of the score, but then when it got to the end, I realised that I had all my fingers up. So there were ten goals, but I don't know who scored how many."
"Well, did they score more than us?"
"Um... I think so."
"Damn."
"But we got two more games left, so you never know."
"Well, it isn't a disaster if we lose them all. As long as we do better than the Druidish team."
"Er, sir, there is no Dridish team."
"There isn't?"
"No."
"I guess that must mean that we're better than them!!! Well done, coach, you've made us a success!"
"Thank you sir!"

U21 Football World Cup,the young Esthian Stars try it again for the 3rd time:
TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY:Third U21 tournament for Esth football team.
After obtaining bad resulta with the senior team during the WC qualification round Esth tries to do good in this tournament "We have learned a lot since the last tournaments,I think we can achieve a great result with this team now.
All of our lads are in great physical form and have played several matches of the first Esthian football league" says team coach Yuri Tanori.
"This reminds me of when we were in Total N' Utter Insanity for the first time, despite being the newest and theoretically the weakest team,we managed to break trough the qualification round and reach the quarter-finals;we shocked everybody that time, shame we got out of the tournament on penalties."
Esthian Minister of Sports comments the 3rd entering of this tournament "They won't let us down, that's for sure" and regarding the bad results in the WC he replies "It was their first time,in a group full of tough team,I'm sure they'll do better next time".
Esthian Players are starting to enjoy playing in Total N' Utter Insanity: "Some cities are really beautiful, wonderful cousine and hot chicks..." says Fabien Castello, goal machine in the last tournament, during an interview at Total N' Utter Insanity national Hotel "I think we should play here more often,it brings us good luck".

Maserrat
28-09-2004, 17:15
Sigh...once again I missed the start of the tournament.
Maserrat Routed...AGAIN!
It seems that the Maserrat U21 team have an aversion to winning games. Since their participation in the tournament began, they have won twice, losing several times and conceded a number of goals. Despite this, and despite never RPing before this match, they were seeded 17th for this tournament, raising the hopes of millions of Maserrat's football fans that they might, finally, get past the group stage. The phrase 'No Such Luck' comes to mind after matchday 1. After being placed in a terrifyingly difficult group, with Starblaydia and Aquiliana, they faced the tantalising prospect of an away tie with Aquiliana. Hopes were high in the Maserrat camp before the game. The players only expected to lose 1-0 or 2-0 - which by the team's standards is a pretty good result. However, manager Slobodan Gresko changed the tactics of a team that has held the same tactics for the past 50 years.
"I thought they were stupid tactics. We were losing 7-0 to teams - we needed to take drastic measures, and I took drastic measures. So sue me!"
The Maserratian FA are to take Gresko to court at the end of the tournament, because the first match of a brand new tournament ended in a 4-1 defeat - Maserrat's second biggest defeat in U21 history. Aquiliana dominated all over the pitch, and gave the Maserrat team, tired after the domestic season which has recently finished, none of the ball. Even the goal they scored was a complete fluke, coming off the backside of half-asleep striker Ubuloy Qostaze (one of the players who helped Rakasta Trespor retain their domestic title) and catching the Aquiliana keeper completely by surprise. Meanwhile Aquiliana pulled out all the stops to get the result, and in the end it was easy for them. Surprisingly the players were fuming about Gresko's change in tactics. Captain Fabien Ferevarco, a member of the team for the past 5 years, had this to say:
"I don't understand why the manager changed the tactics. We aren't used to playing so far up the pitch, and we got caught out by the Aquiliana midfield. We weren't able to adapt to their style of play - we hadn't even adapted to our own!"
There have been calls for Gresko to step down as manager, and also calls for Trespor manager Gustavo Poltzin to take over. Gresko however is adamant that he is thee to stay:
"I have signed a contract keeping me here until 2007. After that, and only after that, will I even consider stepping down. Trust me people, I know what I'm doing. I'll have this team up and running ready for our next game."
However, Maserrat's leading sports psychologist Alfred Tomasoy, disagrees with Gresko:
"I don't think it is possible for the team to come back so soon after such a shock to the system. The players will need time to reflect on what has happened, work on their mistakes and come back even stronger. That'll take at least two days. The team will not be 100% confident about the next game, and if they take another smashing, they may be scarred for life."
Needless to say, these comments have struck fear in the hearts of the Maserrat FA, who need to deliver at least a 2nd round appearance to please football fans. If they don't beat their next opponents things could get very ugly down in the Parliament House of Old Bavahia.

28-09-2004, 17:55
As World Cup 17 looms, the under-21s proved why cynics have little faith in the national team by collapsing 5-2 to Sarzonia.
John Clinton led the way, setting up Wilton James for the first on 14 minutes before James returned the favour with a cheeky chip just three minutes later to leave Clinton a simple volley, if that's no oxymoron, into the net. Conley, Crosson and Clinton again completed the rout, all set up by Kienzl, while Mert Bahaj and Arista Taugiz scored the Progressan consolations. Two scarcely easier sides await in Crystalikere and Audioslavia; most expect two defeats.

Region mates 'Crystilize' rivalry, 2-2
The Sarzonian Under 21 national team played its first match against Atlantian Oceania rivals Crystilakere in the second match of the Sixth Under 21 World Cup championship. Despite that, the Sarzonian football program was very familiar with their southern neighbors, with the senior team having split two matches against the Crystils.
This match did nothing to decide the margin between the rivals, as Crystilakere scored a goal in the dying seconds of injury time to thwart the Junior Stars' efforts to clinch a berth in the knockout stages and draw the match 2-2.
"Our defense betrayed Brian [Tawes, the starting goalkeeper]," Coach Terry Mangione said. "The Crystils are too good a football team to make the kind of lapses we were making out there."
The Junior Stars (1-1-0, four points) remained in first place in Group C, just one point ahead of Kaze Progressa, who evened their record to 1-0-1 by ripping Audioslavia 7-4.
Defender Mark Clark got the offense started for the Junior Stars by stealing the ball from a Crystils forward and dribbling into the area, where he sent a laser shot past the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead 29 minutes in. Forward John Conley added a tally in the 58th minute and it looked like the Junior Stars would cruise.
But the Crystils are nothing if not determined. They scored a goal off a direct free kick in the 61st minute to snap the team out of its doldrums, then set the stage for the late heroics by sending in a forward for a defender. The substitute forward scored the late goal that deflated the Junior Stars and angered Mangione.
"We relaxed a bit out there [after Conley's goal]," midfielder Valentin Kienzl said. "We can't do that."
The Stars play the "Child Labourers" of Audioslavia in the final match of the group stage with Mangione calling an extra practice to work on defensive drills. The Stars would clinch a berth in the knockout rounds with a draw against Audioslavia and a Crystils win by no more than two goals, but Mangione said the team wanted the full three points.
"We can make this tournament as easy or as hard on ourselves as we want to," he said. "We've already made things harder on ourselves than we had to."

The Race For Third
Maserrat's championship is over. Once again, Maserrat fail to make it past the group stage and, once again, it looks like they'll finish in third place. More worryingly, the gap between the top two is a humongous six points. So what does this mean for Maserratian football, a sport that is keenly supported in the country, but as of yet has proved very unsuccessful on the world stage? Manager Slobodan Gresko had this to say:
"This is not the end yet. We still have time for this. I did say that it would be difficult, and indeed it has been. We need time to adjust to the tactics, and obviously our results were going to suffer. What I will say is that this is all an experience. It is only our third tournament, and the learning curve is very steep. I always thought that we wouldn't get past the group stage for our first three tournaments, and indeed we haven't. I do promise that next time we WILL make it past this stage. We will be a better team. I have already set up a number of friendly games to be played to improve ourselves. This tournament should raise our seedings even further, and make it even more likely that we get through, and finally get a reasonably nice group. When we get through, and we will, the world will have a new football team to contend with."
Whilst Gresko is transfixed on the future, the players are focusing on the final group game against last-placed Kirata, the only game it was likely the team would beat at the start.
"This final game is all about pride. We have never failed to score a single point, and we don't intend to do so yet. Kirata haven't scored a goal yet, and hopefully we can keep it that way."
Fans of the team have also pledged their support in the final game. A whopping 84% of people think Maserrat will win the game, whilst 12% think it will be a draw. 4% think Maserratian football has gone totally downhill, and that the team will lose, but this is still a very unsubstantial amount. For the sake of all sanity, let us hope the 84% are right!

One, Two, Three And Easy
Maserrat Routed on Matchday 2
Fresh from a 4-0 thrashing of Kirata, Starblaydia kept their composure and recorded a second win with a nice-looking victory over Maserrat.
The Weimarical Constituency of Maserrat appear to think they can progress their national game by simply competing in the Under-21 tournaments, though where their players go after seems to be a topic of little discussion.
As for Starblaydia's policy, the two leading Starblaydi strikers over the previous three tournaments are now leading the line for the full National team in World Cup Qualification for Kaze Progressa and Vilita. Simeone Di Bradini and Eomer Hall will certainly be facing under-performing Tanah Burung in the Qualification Play-off match to decide which of the teams go to World Cup Seventeen.
You can be certain that more than a few of the players on display today will be in the hunt for World Cup 18, including goalscorers Geraint Evans and young Marco Del Blanco, who put the game seemingly beyond Maserrat. Under-21 Number Nine Jakkinho secured all three points and yet another Under-21 win for Starblaydia with a penalty in a poor-looking mid-way patch in the second half.
Now Starblaydia face Aquiliana, where Starblaydia will want to extert their dominance over an unbeaten side, who neighbour Starblaydia in Atlantian Oceania.
Final Score:
Maserrat 0 - 3 Starblaydia

Mangione 'Labouring' to keep job?
Over the course of the last three Under 21 World Cups, the Sarzonian entry has quickly established its reputation as an attacking side, and one that has advanced to the knockout stages in each of its three appearances. The team that has become the fourth ranked U21 side in the current World Cup after being the seventh ranked team in the previous competition.
However, despite all the success, Coach Terry Mangione may be feeling the heat from Sarzonia's football leadership.
Unnamed sources within the Incorporated Football Federation -- the governing body that oversees the national teams and the professional league -- have suggested that if Mangione's charges do not advance to the knockout stages, "we may look elsewhere to guide our Under 21 program."
"We're glad that we've done so well in the group stages," the source said on condition of anonymity. "But we need to start being able to be a serious factor in the final stages of that competition. Our defense is not world class."
Mangione laughed off speculation about his job security, saying "it all comes with the territory in football." But privately, Mangione told his family, "be ready to pack your bags," according to a longtime family friend.
"Terry won't tell anyone in public that he's worried about his job security," the friend, who asked not to be identiifed, said. "But deep down, he's crushed. He's worked wicked hard to build this program up and to see him not get to finish what he started." The friend never finished the sentence, but the tears welling up in his eyes did for him.
Former U21 striker Kenny Cooper blasted reports of Mangione's job being in jeopardy, saying "it's reactionary. If it weren't for Coach, we wouldn't have a program."
"Coach Mangione is doing the best job he can cobbling together a team," goalkeeper Mark Tanner said. Tanner started for the team in the pipes in the previous two World Cups. "We're still a recent arrival on the world stage, and people seem to forget that."
Speculation on the replacement for Mangione has centered on senior national team assistant coach Barry Owens, who sources said would preach a stingier defensive style. The Junior Stars have allowed four goals in their two matches in group play thus far. They allowed eight in three matches of group play last year, angering observers who disgregarded the team's scoring 21 goals in the same stage.
"The loss to Krytenia really stuck in our craw," another source within the IFF said. "We showed almost no progress from our first World Cup. That needs to change."

Apparently the continued dismal show of the U21 Strike Birds has something to do with the disappearance of TEN FA Deputy head Sonoma Wegersz after the team which he failed to hire a coach got blown out for the second straight match, and can not even get out of 4th place unless they have a massive goal outburst in their third game. "Mr. Lewis?"
"What do you want?" BFA president Johnny Lewis was still fuming over the Cubs' 4-0 loss to Jeruselem on Matchday 1, and Henry Thoreau (no relation to the existentialist guy), the U21 coach, had arrived to bring him what was doubtless more bad news. "How badly did we lose this time?"
"Sir, we didn't lose."
"A draw, then? Well, that's certainly an improvement after the first match--"
"No, we didn't draw either. Yet the scoreline was the same as last time."
"We won four-nil?"
"That's right, sir."
"So you used the second team this time, I take it."
"Nope, same players. Let's just say they were...motivated this time."
"Motivated? By what?"
"I'm not at liberty to discuss that on the grounds that it may or may not have been illegal."
"Illegal? What the slani--" But Thoreau had disappeared in a flash.

Vilitan U-21 Squad Announced
--------------Vilitan National Goalkeeper Jimmy Kater will be warming up for his World Cup Finals campaign in the Under-21 Groupstage as the only named keeper for the young Kitties. Other than Kater, Vilita has fielded one of the most inexperienced Under-21 sides in it's history, with only appearances in Regional and Friendly matches as experience, with the exception of 19 year old captain Emarka Laniora. New additions to the lineup include, On Defense 17 year old Tanner Lembi, Strike's breakthrough at the back, and budding lower-league prospect Julio Matengu. At forward, Another lower league prospect, Alioum Konadu of Vilisorma Locals, has been given a chance to shine on the world stage. He will have to out work 15 year old Marine Coast United starlet Riccardo Appolloni, but the Crosaibi based player's inexperience may keep him on the bench. However, the most Visible addition to the squad is none other than 15 year old Attacking Midfielder Inaki Soler. Strike FC's Soler, who made headlines in the Vilitan Cup final against Yeaddin, by flurrying 8 shots on the Owls net, will have to settle in a rotation, with 6 other midfielders fighting for a spot in the lineup. However, when he does play, all eyes will be focused on him.

REVENGE!
Squires maul Cubs in U-21 World Cup
In the last game of World Cup XVII, the Bedistan Lions mauled the Jeruselem Crusaders to stop them from gaining a playoff spot and Dance 2 Revolution stole 4th place in Group 8 from Jeruselem. The Squires were dismayed when they found out Bedistan was in their Group as well. Old faces Raptor Claw and Tadjikistan were also in Group E.
It was a game for pride, Jeruselem vs Bedistan again. The seniors lost 4-0 and the Cubs were the nemesis. This time it was Bedistan who ran from the field with their tails between their legs. Jeruselem learnt from the seniors game about Bedistan tactics and took revenge. The 4-0 win fired a signal to rivals who would think the Squires will crack under the pressure of playing Bedistan.
Raptor Claw was simply thumped 7-1 by an insane Tadjikistan who wiped them off the planet. Raptor's fans left the game by half-time after Tadjikistan lead easily.

Jeruselem fire warning to rivals!
Tadjikistan who won their last U-21 game 7-1 crashed down to Earth to lose 2-1 to Jeruselem in a clash of the titans. The Squires who expected a tough game shutdown the Tadjikistani attack who flattened the Claw last game. Jeruselem scored a late winner to put them top of Group E and meet poor old Claw last.
Bedistan gave Claw another day to forget, dishing out a less savage 4-0 win and relegating them to prospect of a campaign to forget.

Junior Stars hope to grow up in group finale
Amid a swirling controversy about the status of Coach Terry Mangione, the Sarzonian Under 21 national team is going about its preparations for the final group stage match against Audioslavia.
The Junior Stars beat Kaze Progressa 5-2 and drew 2-2 against regional rivals Crystilakere and sit atop Group C with four points. However, the team is viewing their match against the Crystils as a loss, Mangione said.
"We had the run of play for the bulk of match and we gave away the last goal late," he said. "That's two [standings] points we'll never get back."
Mangione angrily dismissed questions about his job security, saying "that's out of my hands. Let's focus on this match, mmkay?" But team captain Valentin Kienzl directly addressed the issue with reporters.
"It's a distraction," he said. "I think it'd be a terrible move for the [Incorporated Football] Federation to get rid of him." The IFF is the sport's governing body in Sarzonia.
Goalkeeper Brian Tawes refused to answer questions about the coaching controversy, saying "it'll probably never go away unless we win the World Cup this year." But he said the team's mood was somber after the draw against Crystilakere.
"You could see guys with their heads down," he said. "You'd think we lost 8-0."
Audioslavia is last in the group standings, but a win against the Junior Stars could bunch the standings in Group C and possibly leave the Sarzonians out of the knockout stages.
"We have a huge match ahead of us against the Child Labourers," Mangione said. "That is going to be our focus."

Sika Ea was lying on the sofa, covered by a blanket. on the table in front of him were several medicines and a grey book. The TV was on, the international match Wella vs Rejistania was about to start and despite the rather low quality of the programme (he knew that birds decided to sit on the antenna or do somthing else there) and his bad state of health, he listened to the pre-match discussions with interest. If he wasn't ill, he surely would have been there, in Total n Utter Insanity. Slani, slani, slani!
The match eventually started. A very attack-minded 3-4-3, which he never saw in the U21 before by the Orange-Blues met a Wellan System Karela. The Orange-Blues had some good chances, but the destructive System Karela of Wella prevented anything to be capitalised. Suddently, a counter from Wella was successfull, he seemed to see in slow motion how Nivu Sika fails to reach the ball, 0:1 by a player with an unpronouncable name. He cursed in a way, which is only allowed when watching soccer.
The match continued a while when suddently the commentator said something about the score being still 0:0. 'WTSH?' he thought (and a few seconds later: 'I was too much in the IRC lately'). Sika grabbed the remote control and checked the teletext, 0:0. He changed the channel, Esuvortu 1. He checked their teletext. He did remember the Wellan goal, for bleeps sake, why did it say 0:0! Another solid curse was uttered when he saw the live-ticker in the Esuvortu 1 teletext: 0:6! Trailing 0:6, what in the name of the almighty Bob... He switched back to TV-R, which showed the match. the score there said 0:6 too - and the Orange-Blues played really, really abysmal, even Abysmali. A wellan midfielder just increased the score to 0:7 and goalie Miki Haxeri (did he start? was he substituted in? why did he remember Nivu Sika playing in goal?) did not even try to parry the shot. Sika screamed!
"Hey, Sika, wake up!" Sika opened his eyes and looked around, at his mother, who just called him, to the TV, where the Orange-Blues were celebrating their 1:0 victory against Wella. His voice sounded a bit hoarse: "I had a horrible nightmare!"
His mother smiled at him: "It was only a dream... you fell asleep before the match even started."
He felt a bit confused, looked at his book and one thing he suddently knew for sure and surely would never forget: Reading about paralell realities when having 41°C fever is a bad idea.

PROTEST AT CHILD LABOUR SPARKS PROGRESSAN GOAL RUSH
A protest against the use of child labour in many nations around the world proved a dramatic turning point at half-time in a dull game between Audioslavia and Kaze Progressa in the Under-21 Championship. With no goals in the first half, and the adolescent strikers on both teams showing signs of teenage rebellion by shooting at the corner flags instead of the goals, the protest changed everything.
Audioslavia's team are known as the 'Child Labourers' and were attacked as they left the dressing room. Goalkeeper Neil Redbank was badly hurt, could not be replaced as sole replacement James Nieland took an even worse punch to the head, and conceded seven goals in as many minutes. Then the protestors decided that, as the economically richer nation of the two, Kaze Progressa must be using child labourers - when in fact, they are not. The entire team were beaten senseless by protestors, supportive Insanicans and the Audioslavian team themselves. Three men on each side were sent off, the game continued as eight-a-side, and Audioslavia scored four unanswered goals to lose only 7-4.
A Progressan spokesperson for the World Cup Committee said they blamed Margaret, who was recently rumoured to use 12-year-olds of both genders as sex slaves in the Daily Scream.
Edit: The report in a paper for the Lovisan community in Kaze Progressa:

Under-21's start off with a narrow loss
The Halfassed Under-21 side began the 6th junior WC with a defeat against group favorites and fellow FIFAn's Rejistania.
Halfassed had few chances in the game, and they were lucky to be level at the break when Rejistania had a goal disallowed by the referree for a dubious offside decision.
The rear guard action survived until the 67th minute when "7" outjumped Close and headed the ball into the empty net.
Final score:
Halfassed 0 - Rejistania 1

Best ever win for kids
Game two of the under-21 cup was a must win for the Halfassed side. Anything less would see the slim chances of progressing disappear.
The confidence gained from giving Rejistania such a close run clearly boosted the young side, after just 10 mins Nigel scored the first and set Halfassed on there way. By half-time the young Cenataurs striker had completed a hat-trick and Lykaia were beaten.
A mistake by Close, spilling a simple high-ball gifted a goal to Lykaia early in the second -half, but Nigel set-up John for the fourth a few minutes later, and the same player rounded off the scoring with five minutes left.

Stas whip 'Child Labourers' 6-2
The Sarzonian national team played their match against Audioslavia with more on their minds than the group stage finale. They played the match with the pressure of trying to save their coach's job and they came out slugglishly at first, conceding two goals to the 'Child Labourers' before the 10 minute mark.
But after Coach Terry Mangione sent in goalkeeper Horace Sandt to replace a shaky Brian Tawes, the Junior Stars rallied. They got a two goal game from forward John Clinton and four assists from midfielder Valentin Kienzl and sent home six unanswered goals in a span of 45 minutes and throttled Audioslavia, 6-2 to capture Group C.
"We were playing like zombies," Kienzl said after the match. "Putting Horace in woke us up."
And how. Sandt, playing in his second World Cup, played like the assured netminder the team lost when Mark Tanner celebrated his 21st birthday, commanding the area and settling down a shaky defense. His ability to settle the defense led to Clinton's and Kienzl's ability to spark the offense, as the two combined on Clinton's first goal in the 16th minute. Kienzl then found forward Wilton James for the second Sarzonian goal of the match just four minutes later, and it was suddenly Audioslavia who were looking at replacing their keeper.
The halftime score ended up being 4-2 as Kienzl's corner kick found the head of defender Landon George in the 31st minute, then Clinton put one away from the spot in the 42nd minute. The Junior Stars made sure their lead held up and added to it courtesy of goals from midfielder Bryon Crosson and Kienzl.
The Junior Stars get prepared for their next knockout stage match, wondering if they did enough to save their coach's job. But for one day, they made sure Mangione was employed.

'Boring Boring Starblaydia'
1-0 win unfashionable on day of 6-nil wins
That's what you get for having a back-five with a man sitting in midfield, I guess. Still, it worked for Seaman, Winterburn, Adams, Bould and the other one managed to do for years and they won a few trophies.
As Jakkinho popped up with what turned out to be the winner after Half-an-hour, Starblaydia were quite content to soak up the Aqulianan attacks and take potshots of their own from thirty yards. Many of them missed, but some had to be dealt with by the young goalie.
That was about it, really.
Told you it was boring. Six-Two indeed. Bloody Blue-Scouse godmods.

Halfassed progress for first time ever
Fellow FIFAn's win mean point is enough
It was a nerve wrecking few minutes. Wella's late goal helped them claim a point and avoid heading home pointless. It also meant that if Lykaia could claim the win against Rejistania, Halfassed would once again fall at the first hurdle.
News finally filtered through that the orange-blues had walked their game 5-0, and the partying began.
John and Nigel were the goal-scorers once again. John equalised with a powerful drive in the 22nd minute after #7 had opened the scoring for Wella.
On the stroke of half time, John headed Halfassed ahead.
The second half got off to a great start Nigel breaking beyond the Wella defense to score the third. Wella fought back scoring a second after 68 mins. Then came the late leveller that almost cost the youngsters their moment of glory.
But it was not to be, Halfassed progress to the knockouts!
Final Score:
Halfassed 3 (John 22, 44; Nigel 49)
Wella 3 (#7 13; #9 68; #10 86)

No, This Report Isn't From Cloud Seven
In fact, it comes from Total n Utter Insanity, where the Under-21 team has travelled again to repeat their feat from four years ago of gaining a silver medal, much helped by the tactical genius of Hexatux. However, this year, an entirely new team travelled to the Insane nation - and guess what? They've learned to defend!
Grorgrunter, Lanthanate's young keeper-talent who has already established himself, playing a domestic cup final, has kept a clean sheet - a feat he shares with Rejistanian Miki Haxeri, Starblaydi Gavin Thornley and Esthian Andrea Zollino. In all fairness, he hasn't had much to do either. The teams that have played so far have been weak, with little or no chance of qualifying, but we knew that already. A 1-0 win over Qia was followed by a good 3-0 victory over Eystrck, and the Street rounded it off in the final match with Moissanite bagging a hat-trick in a splendid 4-0 win over Lovisa. Still, there is a fair bit of work to be done - le-sur-Mer, the half-Eauzian seems to have communication problems as sweeper, and Fred Stewart isn't playing very well in the centre either - he seems to be missing a lot of the passes. We rejoice, however, in seeing the Lovisans in the bottom of the group, seeing as we don't have to spell their names anymore (and still bear a grudge for knocking us out on goal difference eight years ago).
In the next round the Street U21 will probably play Halfassedstates, a very interesting encounter so early on. Streetbet give offers of 1.83 (5/6) on the Street, 6 (5/1) on a draw, and 2.60 (8/5) on a Halfassedstates surprise victory.

Jeruselem a Fluke After All
MD3 win over Tadjiks put Cubs through
TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY -- In the battle of the "stan"s, Bedistan would be the one to prevail over Tadjikistan. Forward Stefan Sichting bagged the first goal for the Cubs in the 12th minute, but Tadjikistan's Sergi Purkaev successfully equalized before the break. Knowing that a win was almost surely necessary in order to progress to the knockout stages, U21 coach Henry Thoreau gave his team the spirit they needed to finish the job. Thad Linberg and Cole Valin added goals of their own before the final whistle, and the Cubs spent minutes on end celebrating their second place finish after the end of the game.
"Good to see that the Jeruselem match was just a fluke after all," commented BFA president Johnny Lewis. "They apparently wanted revenge after we kicked their tails with our senior squad and kept them from qualifying, and they sure got it. We can always beat them, though."
Final score:
Bedistan 3 (Sichting 12, Linberg 62, Valin 65)
Tadjikistan 1 (Purkaev 42)

Under-21's start off with a narrow loss
The Halfassed Under-21 side began the 6th junior WC with a defeat against group favorites and fellow FIFAn's Rejistania.
Halfassed had few chances in the game, and they were lucky to be level at the break when Rejistania had a goal disallowed by the referree for a dubious offside decision.
The rear guard action survived until the 67th minute when "7" outjumped Close and headed the ball into the empty net.
Final score:
Halfassed 0 - Rejistania 1
I thought it was clear that "7" (rejistanian "sa") would refer to Salakerijasamenatira "Sa" Harakemindanutikejil, especially when mentioning his club...

Oaker Overpowered
In a sheer display of class, the Insanicians dominated the game against Oaker, even though they didn't open their account until the second half. As soon as the ref heard they had opened an account with him he was much more favourable. TnUI won M200.000 Oaker M0.000.
TEN missing one
Is exactly how many they scored, and chances they missed. Again the Insanicians dominated, they don't seem to know how to do anything else. TEN's lacklustre attacking style provided several key defensive frailties, that the Insanicians took full advantage of. It finished TnUI 3 TEN 0.
On the phone with Druida leader Trevor Smith and Druida under-21s coach Trefor Jones:
TS: "Well, coach, how has it gone?"
TJ: "Er, we haven't scored any more goals since you last called, sir. And we let ten in."
TS: "Well, not fantastic, but, just think, it could have been worse..."
TJ: "It could?"
TS: "Well, for starters, we did better than the Druidish team."
TJ: "Er, sir, there was no Druidish team. They didn't enter one."
TS: "Nonsense, they enter teams for everything!"
TJ: "Not for this, sir."
TS: "So we aren't better than them?"
TJ: "Not yet, no. But we might be if we keep going."
TS: "OK. Well, I suppose it was our first time. But how come you didn't score any more goals?"
TJ: "Er... well..."
TS: "I thought you were playing an attacking kind of style."
TJ: "Um..."
TS: "So not only were our attackers useless, but there was no defence to make up for it! Who's crazy decision was that?"
TJ: "Err... that would have been... mine... sir."
TS: "Coach, you're fired, I'm gonna find someone better to do the job."

We like to Lyk it
The young Orange-Blues defeated Lykaia with the high score of 5:0. Normally the Orange-Blues are playing very defensively and win only by small margins, but the Lykaian defense was more leaky than an Abysmali roof and so the goals rained down on them. The Insanician police likes Lykaian fans since they do not drink too much, get into brawls, celebrate until late nights or exist. For the same reason, the Orange-Blue fans were a large majority in the stadium, although there were many neutrals, who simply want to watch international soccer live (or for Progressans: want to see the Insanican stadia).
The Lykaians had a good start, only to worsen minute by minute. Alan Belmore-Oaker had the only good chance for the Lykaians in the 2nd minute, but the defense could clear to a corner kick and Urk-Rikki Y's shot found he head of defender Jese Eti~l. He headed the ball upfields and a counter-attack began. Unfortunately, goalie Likung Belless could parry the shot. He lacked that luck in the 10th minute and in the 19th and in... well, he could not parry anything later on. The referee saved Lykaia when he declared two more goals as scored from offside, otherwise the score would be a disgrace for the Lykaians
The result:
Rejistania 5 ("Sa" 10th 26th 79th, Nxenu 19th, Ahir 56th)

Jeruselem top Group E and Bedistan progress too
Jeruselem topped Group 8 with a tough 4-3 against last place Raptor Claw. Raptor who had been beaten up the other two teams showed some fight and even scored some goals, but their defense failed them again letting in 4 goals. Bedistan pushed aside Tadjikstan 3-1 to take the 2nd position and progress to the 2nd round as well.
Jeruselem meet Magnus Valerius (16th seed) in the 2nd round. Jeruselem have not played MV in the U21s before but the team looks ready to take on MV. Bedistan meet Vilita (6th seed) in a clash to watch as the Lions have picked up form after being decked by Jeruselem in their first game.
Anna Goldstein speaks to Dodgy Dave about the betting in the U-21 VI championships. "Jeruselem is really an outside bet, but some think they can repeat their win for third championship. We say Rejistania and Starblaydia are hot favourites, but Cockbill Street, Krytenia and Sarzonia are also being touted as winners. My bet is Bedistan, but I get these things wrong too."
After the interview, some drunk Bedistan fans shouted "Look at that Jeruselem babe! Wooo wooo" at Anna.

Junior Stars face 'great unknown'
The Sarzonian Under 21 national team began the first stages of preparing for their third second round appearance in three tries, again as a likely favorite to advance to the quarterfinal. However, the players and Coach Terry Mangione are viewing themselves as the decided underdogs.
"We have flamed out the last two round of 16 appearances," Mangione said. "Defensively, we need to tighten things up if we want to hoist a cup."
The team has conceded two goals in each of its three matches in the group stage, causing concern among the Junior Stars camp even though the team won two of its three matches to capture Group C. The only blemish on the team's record came in a 2-2 draw against fellow Atlantian Oceania nation Crystilakere.
Mangione said goalkeeper Horace Sandt would start at goalkeeper for the Junior Stars. Sandt shut down Audioslavia after starter Brian Tawes was yanked following two quick goals. He has looked more comfortable in goal than he was in the fourth Under 21 World Cup.
"He's had experience," Manigone said. "Even though it wasn't a positive one for him, he's at least had a taste of world class competition at this level. That can only help him as he progresses into the professional ranks and possibly toward the senior national team."
Eystrck finished in second place in Group A behind world powerhouse Cockbill Street. Their only loss in three matches came 3-0 to Cockbill Street, but team captain Valentin Kienzl warned the team to play its best football.
"We need to play our brand of football against Eystrck," Kienzl said. "We have to if we want Coach to stay."
The team noted that a roster for Eystrck wasn't available, and Mangione called the team "the great unknown.
"We don't know the names of their players. That makes things a little bit of a challenge."

All's Well That Ends Well
Let's face it, it hasn't been the best of tournament's for Maserrat. After two thrashings from two major players, unrest in the Maserratian FA and Gresko in serious trouble, one could be mistaken for thinking things were going downhill. However, Maserrat's tournament ended in the best possible way, with a 6-2 victory over the fledglings of the group. The Dinamos were on top all over the pitch, making the opposition look very average indeed. The opposition gave them a scare, taking the lead in the first ten minutes, but goals from Ubuloy, Ferevarco and Polinitzin made it 3-1 at half time. The same scoreline was achieved in the second half, with Jarenko scoring twice and Ubuloy getting the sixth five minutes from time. A last minute penalty gave the opposition a further consolation goal, but in the end they ended pointless. This meant that, for the third tournament in a row, Maserrat ended third in their group. However prospects for the next championships are already looking good, with Maserrat set to be provisional ninth seeds, which guarantees them to be second favourites in whatever group they are in. This news was a massive consolation to the citizens of Maserrat, who were rather depressed after their team's early exit.
"Brilliant news - we've got to get through next time, we just have to! This is our best opportunity yet, and we need to take it with both hands!"
The team's seeding could be enough to save Gresko's job, who was under pressure to do well this time round. Whether Maserrat live up to their standings is another matter, but it's one to be discussed later. So Maserrat say farewell for the third time, but next time, don't expect it to be so soon.

Under-21s advance to Quarter Final
Starblaydia Under-21s defeated their unseeded Oddslavo counterparts as Starblaydia conceded their first goal of the tournament, clocking up their eleventh goal in four games as they shot three past the Oddslavo 'keeper.
Left-back Vengelis Koentas scored with a wonderful diving header from the edge of the box after only ten minutes had been played. Jakkinho scored his fourth in four games to extend the lead further, though Oddslavo pulled one back with practically the last kick of the first half.
Nerves were calmed as Marco Del Blanco came on as a substitute to restore the two-goal lead and allow Starblaydia to sit back and soak up any and all pressure that Oddslavo could manage.
Starblaydia now meet 11th-ranked Bedistan in the Quarter-Finals, a place which Starblaydia have been once before and progressed, beating Jerusalem 3-2 in the previous tournament, with young Tetsuo Naoki getting the winner.
Naoki to save Starblaydia Under-21s at the Quarter-Finals for the second time in two tournaments? Don't bet against it.
Final Score:
Starblaydia 3 - 1 Oddslavo
(Koentas 12, Jakkinho 34, Del Blanco 82) - (#16 45)

Third time the charm, 1-0
A Sarzonian Under 21 national team that was beset in controversy after speculation on the job security of Coach Terry Mangione played its match against Eystrck with a sense of purpose that would have honored the senior team and rode an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Horace Sandt to the first shutout in Junior Stars' history, 1-0 against Eystrck.
The high-flying Sarzonian offense was uncharacticstically sluggish against an Eystrck side that conceded six goals in three matches, but the defense was better than its usual form. A Sarzonian offense that scored 13 goals in three previous matches only got one, from forward John Clinton in the 18th minute, but held Eystrck at bay.
On the rare occasions when the Junior Stars defense betrayed it, Sandt was more than up to the task, making spectacular saves including a diving parry of a laser shot by the team's top striker in the 34th minute.
"Horry was a beast out there," Mangione said, with relief on his face after the Incorporated Football Federation, the governing body for Sarzonian football, announced that he would be retained as head coach. "He basically carried us today and our defense was the reason we're moving into the quarterfinals."
The IFF had been non committal about retaining Mangione in spite of the team's ascention to the fourth ranking among Under 21 sides in the world. The IFF's leadership was frustrated with the team's inability to advance past the first knockout stage match in two previous World Cups and was apparently looking to have the team install a more defensive-minded approach. The win against Eystrck put those plans on hold.
"We'll continue to try to tighten things up defensively," midfielder and team captain Valentin Kienzl said. "It's the knockout stages, you have to."
For one match, the Junior Stars did.

The Chemical Engineers ignored this threat, now the government is putting together an ultimatum to the government of the Chemical Engineers, we managed to get hold of a rough draft.
The Chemical Engineers shall;
Clean up all effected beaches.
Collect any drums of toxic waste at the bottom of the ocean.
Put into place harsh laws to prevent this from ever happening again.
Punish those responsible.
Pay compensation to all those effected.
They have 24 hours to reply or they shall be forced to comply. The army and the navy have been mobilised. Cleanup on our own beaches has already begun with hundreds of volunteers and celebrates heading to the beaches. If action is taken against the Engineers the Under 21 World Cup being held in Total n Utter Insanity may have to be postponed or even called off.

Jeruselem win battle of Latin states, Jesus scores a hat-trick!
5th seeded Jeruselem met fellow Latin state Magnus Valerius (16th) in the 2nd round of the U21 championships. Having not played MV before, they did not what would happen but it proved to be easy game. The striker with the strange name Ben Jesus scored three goals for Jeruselem and earned man of the match honours. The inexperienced MV team proved no match for the tough Jeruselem outfit who basically dominated the midfield to allow Jesus and co to attack the MV goal.
Jeruselem meet Esth (7th) or Aquiliana (9th) next. The coach said he was confident Jeruselem would win their quarter final game after this excellent 2nd round win. "It gets tough in the finals, but we are confident about the next game. Our opponents will not be easy but our defense is better than last year and we are scoring goals regularly. Four goal wins aren't easy to achieve at the best of time and we've done it twice already."

Vilita Jungle Kitties Report::The Vilita Jungle Kitties opened up their 5th Under-21 World Cup Championships campaign with high expectations, after under-performing in the previous two cups, getting knocked out in the group stage with just a single point in U21 World Cup IV, then Losing out in the Quarter Finals to Rejistania in the Fifth Under 21 World Cup Championships. While the team was ranked lower than they had been at any time since before their were Runners Up in the Third Under 21 World Cup Championships, a competition that still goes down as the best performance by any Vilitan side, in a history of chronic un-exciting performances.
-----------------Three players started the match as their first ever appearance for the Under-21's. Defenders Julio Matengu and Tanner Lembi, Lembi a highly-rated prospect from the powerful Strike FC, and another highly-rated Strike Prospect, Inaki Soler, who has his 16th birthday coming up soon, Starting on the Right Wing. Soler Opened his international goalscoring account against a strong Starblaydi side in the AOCAF III Quarter Finals. However, It was Magnus Valerius that started this match best, taking the lead 20 minutes in, leaving the Vilitan support to wonder if they would once again falter at the first stage despite their high expectations. As the half time whistle approached, Carmine Mbidzo decided he was not going to let that happen, and notched his first goal of the competition to send the scores level into the half.
-----------------The teams came out of the second half, with one noticable change, Defensive Midfielder Lai Otieno was dropped in favor of more Attacking Midfielder Jeremie Emeka. The Jungle Kitties also looked a bit more up for the match, and pressured Magnus Valerius straight out of the box. Mauro Baraza quickly earned a corner, and Tanner Lembi's delivery was met perfectly by Carmine Mbidzo, emphatically heading home for his second of the match to propel Vilita into the lead. Within ten minutes, Vilita was awarded a penalty kick after Mbidzo was fouled in the area. Mbidzo required treatment, and passed up the opportunity to record his hattrick in favor of the team scoring their third goal. Newly-introduced Jeremie Emeka stepped up and made no mistake. From the resulting kick off, 15 year old Inaki Soler intercepted on the right, and with blistering pace found himself in a race with the last defender, that he easily won, and then cooly finished to end all hope of a Magnus Valerius comeback. Mbidzo would eventually leave the field to hand Riccardo Appolloni an Under-21 debut, and his status for the match against the Weegies was unknown.

Orange-Blues win in a penalty-thriller
The young Orange-Blues advanced to the quarterfinal only by luck, much luck. The match between the Rejistanian Orange-Blues and the Total n Utter Insanity Madmen was only decided by luck and the weather. The wind was blowing strong during the match, and it became stronger and less predictable during the it. The regular time was dominated by a System Karela from both sides. During Extra Time, it became more and more difficult to control the ball. Re-scheduling of the match was not possible due to the tense schedule. In the second half extra time, passing reminded of playing lottery: the chances to be successfull were minimal. The following penalty kicks were as much luck. The ball kept rollong off the spot and the penalty kicks could only be taken because someone had to hold the ball in position*. After 5 penalties, the score still was 0:0. then the wind weakened for a while and the insanician as well as Sijij Ha~e converted. That strange coincidence reapted during the 9th, the 11th and the 14th penalty. The 15th was a miss for the insanican, but Salakerijasamenatira "Sa" Harakemindanutikejil shot in an angle as if wanting to hit the corner flag. The wind intercepted the shot and the ball sailed past the goalkeeper. The Orange-Blues won!

Disappointment at Quater-Final Exit
Lack of f00d blamed for Bedistan loss
"Now look here," said Starblaydi Manager Guylain N'Dumbu-Nsungu, "it just shows you how far we've come as a footballing nation if we can be disappointed at a Quarter-Final exit in this compeition.
"Of course, I'd have said we were one of the title favourites, based on the rankings. I'd also say that Bedistan should be up there too, as they've won this thing more times that we have."
And that's really the crux of the Starblaydi media's drive of 'we want to win something'. They want to emulate the Ice Hockey journalists, or even the short-lived Atlantian Oceania Olympic reporters. They want to stand on the rooftops are scream 'Starblaydia lift a trophy!'
"From Being in a poisition where every win was a gem, we're now getting to the stage of cockiness where every defeat is a crushing blow to the nation's sporting hopes. It just isnt like that in real life.
"We're still progressing up the World rankings like some kind of crazy Kaze-creature. I admit, based on our seeding and 3rd place last time, we should be into the Semis. But that's life, and that's football."
Though Jean-Pierre Durand dragged both Starblaydia's Attack and Defence kicking and screaming into the game with a man-of-the-match performance, it wasn't enough to win the game in normal or extra time. The dreaded penalty kicks followed and Bedistan were deadly-accurate from the spot as they converted every single one of their five penalties, with Geraint Evans' third-kick miss downing Starblaydia after they had only taken four.

Two times is a charm
The young Orange-Blues defeated the Apprendices fromCockbill Street in a rematch of the last final. This time, the match had no scandals, no crashing math-logical coaches, no Siki Rej giving tactical orders, no tricks. However, many fans remember Siki Rej and the Hexatux, to tese Streetian fans, some masqueraded to look like Siki Rej (which means: they looked like rejistani nerds). The rumour exists, that the real Siki Rej was among them.
The Orange-Blues have in certain countries the bad reputation to play System Karela (in some countries, this is considered bad) and in Cockbill Street the rejistani reputation for this tactical system is especially bad. Maybe that was the reason for the young Orange-Blues, to show their attacking qualities and to play in a 4-3-3. Strikers in this formation are "Sa", Ji Y and Duli~n Naneji.
The match saw good chances for both sides, but the Apprendices were better in finishing. A chance of the Apprendices in the 20th minute was used for an orange-blue counter-attack. Ji Y scored his first international goal ever. In the 54th minute, he was able to archieve number 2 too. Darren le-sur-Mer lost the duel against the Matixian striker (a radio-station later said that the half-Eauzian defender 'surrendered') and Y'he was able to shoot past Grorgrunter. The nightmare of the stadium-technicans became true when Salakerijasamenatira Harakemindanutikejilincreased the score to a 3:0 in the 88th minute (after a phase of System Karela). Full effort vs. Halfassedstates
With the Sarzonian Under 21 national team's 1-0 win over Eystrck, the Junior Stars saved Coach Terry Mangione's job. With the pressure off Mangione and the rest of the team, they shook off the nerves they had against Eystrck and played attractive football, getting two goals each from forward John Clinton and midfielder Valentin Kienzl and beating Halfassedstates 5-3.
"We were very sluggish in the match against Eystrck, but we played much sharper offensively in this match," Mangione said. "It was good to see our lads play with the monkey off their backs."
Of some concern for the Junior Stars is a leaky defense that has allowed nine goals in five matches. Except for the clean sheet by goalkeeper Horace Sandt, the team is averaging 2.25 goals against in the other four matches.
"We have to do a better job on the defensive side of the pitch," Kienzl said. "They had too many chances out there and we're going to have to tighten things up against the top team in the world."
The Junior Stars play their first-ever semifinal match in the World Cup, taking on top ranked Rejistania for the right to advance to the World Cup championship match. The Junior Stars lost their previous meeting to Rejistania, 3-2 in the second match of Group E play in the fourth Under 21 World Cup. It was also the second match in the Sarzonian Under 21 national team's history.
"Things are very different now from how they were then," Mangione said. "They're a lot better than they were when we faced them last time. Hopefully, we've gotten a little better since then."
Mangione said the team would place additional emphasis on defending against Rejistania, but added that possession football was going to "take center stage for us."
"We have to stop their most dangerous player, that number seven," goalkeeper Horace Sandt said. When asked to say the player's name, he said "no way in Hell." To a man, the Sarzonians wouldn't even attempt the name Salakerijasamenatira "Sa" Harakemindanutikejil.
"The only good news about that guy," which the Sarzonian team has taken to calling him, "is that he's going to be too old to play the next time there's a World Cup," Mangione said with a chuckle. "Saying that guy's name is too much of a mouthful."

Squires march into U21 semis
Jeruselem made the semi-finals of the 6th U-21 champions/world cup. This is the 3rd time they have made semis of U21. In the last two attempts, they also made the final winning the 3rd championship. Esth were unknown to the Squires and the game proved a wrestle with both defenses beating off any offensive attempts. Striker Ben Jesus earned himself a penalty after being punched in the penalty area by a grumpt defender who didn't seem to like Christians. He converted and Jeruselem are now into the semis.
Ironically, Jeruselem's opponent will be Bedistan who beat last year's Nemisis Starblaydia in extra time 1-1 (5-3). Starblaydia beat Jeruselem 3-2 in quarters in the 5th championship, but this time Bedistan stopped this reunion. It was reported the Jeruselem-Bedistan game is sold out as both teams have a bad habit of bumping to each other in major games.
The other semi-final is Rejistania vs Sarzonia with the top seed against a rising soccer power. Bookies are very happy with 4 of the top 5 U21 ranked nations making the semis this year. Anna Goldstein talks to Dodgy Dave the bookie "I'm still saying Bedistan will win and they will meet Rejistania. However with the class of the top 5 in the semis, I'm not too sure myself". Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem said "Jeruselem will again because God kinda indicated so".

Three players started the match as their first ever appearance for the Under-21's.
The teams came out of the second half, with one noticable change, Defensive Midfielder Lai Otieno was dropped in favor of more Attacking Midfielder Jeremie Emeka.

Cubs defeat Jungle Kitties for quarterfinal slot
TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY -- Now that Vilita has become an estabished footballing power, a win by Bedistan over them is no longer a foregone conclusion, whether the senior squads or the under-21 versions thereof face off. And in TnUI, the U21s did indeed face off in an exciting second-round match. Vilita opened the scoring after a dozen minutes thanks to Malovar Stokks, who blasted one past goalkeeper Henry Carrera from fifteen yards. The Jungle Kitties would hold the lead going into halftime, but after the break the Cubs came out swinging. Vilitan goalkeeper Jimmy Kater was tested as the Cubs' offense made nine shots on target, with Kater managing to handle all of them. The tenth, though, got past him, as Cole Valin successfully leveled the score, causing the match to be undecided at full time.
So the two sides, weary but still strong, got ready for another thirty minutes of action. A scrappy first half didn't produce a goal for either side, but Stefan Sichting managed to pull through just before the match would've gone to penalties with the 2-1 into the top right corner of the Vilitan net.
The Cubs next face Starblaydia in the quarterfinals in what is expected to be "one hell of a match", according to U21 coach Henry Thoreau.
Final score:

[Scene: The living room of a family in Hendersonburg, Bedistan. Taped coverage of the AOCAF quarterfinal between Vilita and Starblaydia on BSI (Bedistan Sports International) has just wrapped up, and the dumbfounded father has just flipped over to BSTV to get an update on another Starblaydia match, this time their U21 quarterfinal against the Cubs.]
Commentator: "Now going into the 118th minute, the match is still tied at one after a pair of second-half goals, one by Stefan Sichting and one by Starblaydia's Jean-Pierre Durand."
Father: "Good grief, what is it with Starblaydia? They seem to be dominating everything all of a sudden!"
Son: "Yeah, that had to be pretty humiliating for Vilita. Odds were what, well over 200-1 on that kind of a loss for them? I figure a lot of people lost a lot of money on that."
Father: "Certainly a good day for the bookmakers there."
Commentator: "And that's the whistle for full time, with the match still tied. That means we're going to the dreaded penalty shootout."
Father: "Ah, penalties. That's a good sign, 'cause we've always been pretty good on penalty shootouts in the past."
Son: "Yep. I looked it up on the Internet, and it said if the match went to penalties the odds were 3-1 against Starblaydia."
Father: "On the Internet? Have you been on the computer without permission?"
Commentator: "Cole Valin now stepping up to take Bedistan's first kick..."
Son: "Computer? What computer?"
Commentator: "And that'll be good for 1-0. Del Blanco approaching the spot for Starblaydia."
Father: "The only one we have, the one in the basement that you'd have to use in order to get on the Internet."
Commentator: "Del Blanco ties it at one. Stefan Sichting will give it a try now..."
Son: "Um, I used my computer..."
Commentator: "Sichting makes his shot, and we now go to Naoki to try to tie it up again."
[The father looks at his son and spots a notebook computer in his lap.]
Father: "WHERE did you get that?"
Commentator: "2-2 now. Thad Linberg to take the next shot."
Son: "You mean I didn't have this before?"
Commentator: "Keeper just barely misses that one, and it's 3-2 Bedistan. Geraint Evans stepping up to the spot for Starblaydia now."
Father: "No. No, you didn't."
Commentator: "Carrera with the save! Bedistan hold the 3-2 lead, and Lesco comes up to try to make it 4-2."
Son: "Oh. Well, you know how I was talking about all those people losing money on the Vilita-Starblaydia match?"
Commentator: "Lesco succeeds, and Montefalcon must make this shot to keep Starblaydia alive."
Father: "Yeah..."
Son: "Well, I took all the money out of my savings account and bet it all on a five-goal win for Starblaydia."
Commentator: "Montefalcon makes the shot, and it's 4-3. If Bedistan's Blaine Bary can make this shot, the Cubs are going to the semifinals..."
Father: "That's twelve hundred bakrani..."
Son: "Yes, it is. And with the 250-1 return on that, that now comes out to around three hundred thousand."
Commentator: "AND IT'S IN!"
Father and Son: "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Son: "We're in the semifinals!"
Father: "Three hundred thousand bucks!"
Mother: "What the devil just happened?"
Father: "Come on! Group hug!"

I'll See Your Revenge
And raise you an U21 final appearance
TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY -- Fans across Bedistan were worried when they saw that Jeruselem would be the Cubs' semifinal opponents. After all, this was the side that had shocked Bedistan four-nil in the group stage opener, presumably as a sign of revenge after losing to Bedistan by the same margin on the final matchday of World Cup 17 qualifying, knocking Jeruselem out. So they'd had their revenge, but now it was time for the Cubs to even the score, so to speak.
It was far from being a clean game. Bedistan did rack up more fouls than their opponents, but only just -- 27-24 overall. The no-nonsense referee was very generous with his yellow cards in the first half, awarding five total. Things looked very bad for Bedistan when defender Dick Richcreek received a red card thanks to a poorly timed tackle on a Jeruselem striker, taking the Cubs down to ten players. Despite this, it could only be divine intervention that prevented Jeruselem from being scored upon in the first half, and the teams went to break at nil-all.
Little changed in the second half, as the fans saw Bedistan's exciting brand of attacking football continue. Ultimately, it would be a mistake similar to Richcreek's that would decide the contest, as striker Cole Valin was taken down by a Jeruselem defender in the box in the 73rd minute. The red card was shown, and Bedistan got a penalty kick. Minh Lesco had no trouble converting it, and the ten-a-side match went on for another twenty minutes with Jeruselem desperately trying for the equalizer, eventually moving everyone but the keeper into an attacking position to try to push for extra time, but it would not come. The Cubs' 1-0 lead would hold, sending Bedistan's U21 team to the final for only the second time. Last time they were here, they won it all. Can it happen again?
Bedistan will face either Rejistania or Sarzonia in the attempt to take their second.

Cubs down Squires amidst controversy
Bedistan progressed into the U-21 final after a rather nasty semi final against Jeruselem, winning 1-0. In a bad tempered game, a penalty goal to Bedistan settled the game after Jeruselem had a penalty saved by the Bedistan keeper.
The Jeruselem coach criticised the referee "Jeruselem-Bedistan games are always physical, but this time went too far. He say a foul in everything which looked remotely suspect. With regard to those send offs, if the same happened in most finals game then most teams would have 5 players on the field and not 10. We don't know why he got selected to referee this match as I've lost count of the number of death threats against him."
The referee refused to speak to the media, but the bodyguards said to the press "I wish I didn't take this job".
Bookie Dodgy dave said "I'm putting my money on Bedistan to win. 1 million shekels ... I'm that confident now." Another bookie said "My money is on Rejistania. They are consistent and don't look like being shaken. Their last opponents were really tough and their defense held firm. Sarzonia deserve to be in the semis, but I'm betting for a 3-1 win to Rejistania in the final".

Stars earn trip to finals, beat Rejistania
The Sarzonian Under 21 national team have made a mark for their high-powered offense and scored five goals in their quarterfinal match. But against a defensive-minded Registanian side, neither team could dent the back of the goal through 120 minutes of regulation and two periods of extra time.
But the Junior Stars finally prevailed thanks to penalties and a penalty miss by Salakerijasamenatira "Sa" Harakemindanutikejil and advanced to the final of the Under 21 World Cup on penalty kicks.
"We weren't able to get any flow offensively," Coach Terry Mangione said. "It was tight in there. Registania is a tough defensive side, no question. We were very fortunate to come away with the win in penalties."
Neither team missed in the penalty kick session and Sarzonian goalkeeper Horace Sandt was beginning to warm up to prepare for what seemed like an inevitable turn from the spot, but the player the Sarzonians have taken to calling "that guy" fired high.
"My mechanics were off. I was thinking too much," he said. "Give Sarzonia credit. They're a good team."
The Junior Stars face Bedistan for the right to hoist their first-ever World Cup title.
"It should be a great match," Mangione said.

Sarzonia falls short of glory, 3-2
After the Sarzonian Under 21 national team dealt with controversy surrounding the status of Coach Terry Mangione, the coach led the team into its first-ever World Cup finals by adjusting the team's usual attacking style to tighten up the defense. The team earned clean sheets in two of its three matches leading up to the final.
But unlike the Junior Stars, Bedistan's Under 21 team has been to and won finals before. They did it again, defeating Sarzonia 3-2 to capture the World Cup title for the second time in three appearances.
"We gave it everything we had," Coach Terry Mangione said. "But you could tell which team had finals experience and which team was making its first-ever appearance. We'll take some lessons from this match into the next World Cup but you can bet we'll be back."
The Junior Stars got two goals from John Clinton, both assisted by midfielder Valentin Kienzl, each one drawing the match level, but they gave up the winning goal in the 74th minute and despite reverting to their usual attack-oriented play, could not get the equalizing goal.
"It hurts to lose the final," Kienzl said. "But we'll be a force to be reckoned with in football in the years to come. We'll win a final before it's all over."

Bedistan defend U-21 crown, Dodgy Dave wins big
With Sarzonia beating Rejistania in overtime in the other semi-final in a dramatic overtime win on penalties 8-7, it was Bedistan vs Sarzonia. Sarzonia made their first final while Bedistan were defending champions after beating 3rd championship winners Jeruselem 1-0.
In the end, Bedistan fought off a galant Sarzonia to win 3-2 and defend their crown. Bookie Dodgy Dave was all smiles "My million shekel bet turned into a good return. Now I can go buy that island off Jeruselem ..."
In other news, the 3rd placed playoff was won by Rejistania who beat Jeruselem 2-0 to take 3rd while Jeruselem finish 4th. This means Jeruselem have made the U21 semis 4 times and taken 1st (3rd championship), 2nd (4th championship), 3rd (2nd championship) and now 4th (6th championship).

Vilita Jungle Kitties Report::For the Third time in as many weeks, a Vilitan National Team found itself full force facing the Druid revolt of Druida. It was twice in the AOCAF cup, where the Regional Cats racked up an impressive 36 goals in Eight games, for a tournament leading +31 goal differential after the group stage. 8 of those goals came against an unimpressive Druida, who Vilita easily brushed aside with a pair of 4-1 victories, before their dissapointing knockout round exit. Carmine Mbidzo was fit to return to the starting lineup, sending Riccardo Appolloni back to the bench.
------------Mbidzo quickly proved his fitness by latching on to an Inaki Soler flick-on and leaving the Druid keeper hopeless in connecting with the back of the net just 5 minutes into the match. Vilita would control the play, leaving little for the Druids to do other than clear the ball upfield, and their constant pressure was rewarded once again through Mbidzo, 25 minutes in. After some good work by Tanner Nerni, Mauro Baraza had a shot from 15 yards. The Druid keeper was able to parry the effort, but only as far as Mbidzo who easily slotted home for his second of the afternoon. As the half time whistle approached, Baraza's hard worked earned a corner for the group leaders, already assured of a place in the next round. Nerni delivered the cross which found Julio Matengu in space, the cindarella Non-League story rising to head home the first international goal ever for a player from Julspora. That would see the end of the first half, with Vilita leading 3-0.
------------------The second half was no different than the first, with Vilita seeing an incredible 80% ball possession, completely dominating the midfield in their 3-5-2 formation, with crisp passing to ensure the best opportunities. The best opportunity is exactly what they got an hour into the match, and it was Mauro Baraza of Eastal Lunar who capitalized, scoring his first of the afternoon and second in as many games. Just minutes later, Cednia Beach's Right Wing phenom Tanner Nerni burst in, rounding the defender and leaving the Druid keeper solid in his steps. Like Baraza, it was nerni's first Tally of the game and second of the tournament, looking to prove that maybe he should have been included in the Vilita World Cup Finals roster, and not 15 year old Inaki Soler. Soler had a word of his own in the matter with 10 minutes to play, however, as it was his masterful ball that provided his 3rd assist of the game, but, to the delight of the fans, the scorer was Carmine Mbidzo, recording the Hattrick in front of a prominantly Vilitan support, putting a capper on the game and sending his side to the next round.

Mangione plans changes, but will stay on
During a World Cup in which his job security was in question, Sarzonia's Under 21 national team Coach Terry Mangione largely stayed silent publicly regarding the speculation. Mangione broke the silence in a press conference following the Junior Stars' finals loss in the sixth Under 21 World Cup.
"It hurt like hell," Mangione said. "We put in a lot of work to get a team established and then try to make it a world class operation, and this is the thanks I get?
"People seem to forget how hard it is to build a quality football program from the ground up," Mangione continued. "We get just a little taste of success and we're spoiled rotten."
The Junior Stars advanced to the knockout stages in each of their first two appearances in the World Cup, but lost each by two goals. The team got outstanding offense from forward Kenny Cooper and midfielder Valentin Kienzl, but saw Cooper graduate to the senior national team after the previous World Cup. Mangione cobbled together an attack with forward John Clinton taking over Cooper's starting spot and the team didn't miss a beat offensively.
Defensively, however, the Junior Stars stood out. A club that allowed 12 goals in four matches in the previous World Cup and 13 goals in four matches in the prior Cup conceded 12 goals in seven matches in this World Cup. That figure is still "much too high," Mangione said, but the team notched its first-ever clean sheets behind goalkeeper Horace Sandt, who won the job from Brian Tawes during the group stages.
"We started playing better defensive football the further into the knockout stages we went," Sandt said. "I started gaining confidence and the team did. Unfortunately, we were one win short of our ultimate goal."
"We knocked on the door this time," Clinton said. "Hopefully, we'll bang that sucker down next time."
The Junior Stars say they will continue to play the attacking brand of football they have played through each World Cup, but would continue to work on tightening the defense, especially as the knockout stages approach.
"We can't be something we're not," Mangione said. "That will doom us. But we can use our offense to help our defense become better. We'll likely play more possession football next time around with more short, one-touch passing. Defensively, we have to hit upon a combination that's going to work for us. But we've served notice that this will be a good football team in the years to come."
Fortunately for Mangione, that future will include him prowling the sidelines.

Bedistan had done it, two time champions. They joined the very select few, Brazillico, Europa Brittania, Eauz as the only teams to lift a World Cup trophy twice. Of course this was only the Under 21 competition, which wasn't as fierce as the "grownup version". Nevertheless it was still an achievement, likely to be equalled by one of the third place playoff participants in the near future.
We are in the Insane Dome, home to all the Under 21 World Cup Finals. On the pitch are this years pride of Bedistani Cubs. Their captain has in his hands the trophy; perhaps it was a premonition that it was a Lion this time around. He holds the trophy up to a massive roar of the footballing fans as fireworks explode overhead. Surely nothing could spoil this perfect moment...Yes something could, and don't call me Shirley. Klaxons began to blare and jets started flying overhead. War had started. Mistaking the extremely loud fireworks for an enemy attack, the Insanician Airforce had scrambled. A retaliatory strike mission was already underway. The navy had begun moving towards the Chemical Engineers. Anti-Battleship missiles were being launched in there thousands. Submarines stationed near the enemy fleets began torpedo runs. Navy fighters and bombers began launching from the mammoth Day-Class Carriers. The fighting was fierce. Although the Insanicians suffered losses the toll on the enemy was much worse. There was panic and confusion. As the smoke cleared ampimbous landings were made...

As the smoke cleared ampimbous landings were made...
A slightly distressed man in a suit sprints down the corridors of the 'Audioslavian Society for Systematic and Immediate Response to Insanician Taunts or Aggressive Terrorist-esque Incidents Or Nastiness' (ASS-IRITATION). He runs through the door of an office
Person At Desk: JESUS CHRIST BILLY YOU JUST DESTROYED MY DOOR
Billy: I'll pay for it Bob, look, theres an emerg... what are you doing?
Bob (tucking something away under the desk): Nothing.. nothing.. that door was locked for a reason... christ how did you just run through it like that?!
Billy: Hurry. No time for knocking
Bob: No time for opening the door either by the looks of it, strewth thats gonna cost a fortune
Billy: Look NEVER MIND about the fucking door, we've got a code four-ten
Bob: A code four ten? Theres a welshman in a ginger toupee with his willy out in the changing rooms?
Billy: what? no, sorry a four-eight, weve got an immediate code four-eight.
Bob: four-eight? The ginger welshman is in the canteen?
Billy: Ah shit, no sorry i meant a four-nine, definately a four-nine
Bob: Oh.... TnUI are intent on murdering everyone
Billy: YES thats the one, theyve just done an ampimbous landing
Bob: Holy shit, where?!
Billy: In TnUI
Bob: Theyve done an ampimbous landing in their own country? Are they insane?!
Billy: Well... yes they are, but thats not the point, the point is that a Pimbous has been deployed somewhere
Bob: The Pimbous... the most devastating weapon known to humankind...
Billy: Yes.... say Bob....
Bob: Yes Billy?
Billy: What exactly... you know... what exactly IS a Pimbous?
Bob: Its the most devastating weapon known to humankind, young'un
Billy: Yes but... what is it?
Bob: Its a bus load of pimps. Pimpbus. Pimbous. It makes perfect sense in TnUI and Aquilla
Billy: ah fuck...
Bob: Do you know their intended target?
Billy: Well its been deployed outside the Insane Dome where Bedistan have just won that tournament thing
Bob: Tournament... thing?
Billy: Yeah, you know, the one we won without trying and now just send a load of footballing-lepers to take the piss
Bob: Ah... but... wait a second, some of those footballing lepers go on to play for the national team
Billy: Yeah, its cos we get them cured when we play Jerusalem
Bob: Lepers are cured by a Fat Les song? Jesus christ...
Billy: No Bob, not the song, the country, Jerusalem, its holy
Bob: Its holy something alright... so tell me, who was playing in the Insane Dome?
Billy: Bedistan and Sarzblaydia, no, Starzonia, whatever, one of those newish teams who keep beating everyone yet somehow never do well in tournaments.
Bob: A team that does what?
Billy: You know, imagine Snub Nose 38, keep the 'never doing any good in tournaments' part but replace the bit about being talentless and past it with being talented and up-and-coming
Bob: Ah... so the Pimp-Bus was deployed outside this stadium
Billy: Yessir
Bob: Billy..... what do Pimps do?
Billy: They sell time-shares in diseased slags to people
Bob: What sort of people Billy
Billy: umm, i dunno, desperate losers, and the desperate losers always get horrible STDs
Bob: Desperate losers... and who was playing in the stadium?
Billy: Bedistan
Bob: And Bedistani football supporters are...
Billy: Desperate losers...... OH MY GOD
Bob: I think you've cracked it Billy
Billy: THE INSANICIANS ARE TRYING TO MAKE BEDISTANI PEOPLE'S WILLIES GO FUNNY COLOURS, THOSE BASTARDS!
Bob: So what do we do?
Billy: We cant send anyone over it'll be too late, in about ten minutes those Bedistanis will be all over the pimp-bus like scallies to a TK MAXX
Bob: We'll warn the Bedistani authorities
Billy: Oh yeah, and one other thing, before the pimbous, the insanicians attacked an Enemy with loads of ships and planes and stuff.
Bob: oh.. which enemy?
Billy: It didnt say, although the attack was provoked by a firework
Bob: A firework? Whats a firework?
Billy: oh it doesnt have any set hours, just works until theres nowt to burn
Bob: Right....
Billy: I think we should go to bed and hopefully it'll be all right in the morning
Bob: Good idea Billy, g'nite bitch

Prospects For Next Time
So, another tournament over and another disappointment for the fans of Maserratian football. The question on many people's lips is 'Where do we go from here?' This tournament has shown up some underlying problems with the game in Maserrat: the inefficiency of the current FA, the difficulty of changing the team's style of play, and (now) the upgrade of many of the U21 squad to the full squad. The suitability of current manager Slobodan Gresko has been severly questioned, despite his success in bringing the team from obscurity to tenth seeds in the U21 world. It is, however, likely that this simple fact will be enough to secure Gresko the post at least until after the next tournament, but if he is to continue, drastic changes will need to be made to the team. Not only have striker Qostaze Ubuloy and captain Ferevarco Ferenitzin moved on to better things, but a string of complaints by top domestic teams such as Rakasta Trespor, Trone Poskit and Tyrodespor, have led the FA to enforce a new 'three-day' rule, in which domestic clubs can now refuse to allow players to travel to the tournaments if the squad is announced less than three days before a domestic match day.
"Domestic clubs are hereby permitted to submit a formal refusal of travel to the Maserratian FA over players selected to compete in overseas tournaments, on the proviso that the squad is announced no earlier than three days before a round of domestic fixtures is to be played."
From the new Maserratian FA Rule Book
This new rule means that some of the U21 team's best players, such as Boris Bolonitzin and Jarenko Kostinxe, will probably be unable to play in tournaments. This leaves Gresko with the huge task of creating a superb team from a group of less-than-superb players. However, Gresko feels he is up to the challenge:
"I am not a footballing cowboy. I know how to manage a team and I know how to get the best out of my players. I can form a motley team out of any eleven professional players I am given, I can promise you that. I will prove this in the next tournament."
Which brings us back to the original question: 'What's next for Maserratian football?' Well, the answer seems clear enough. Gresko needs to get together a new team, and get them some match practice. Indeed he has already set up soem friendlies involving teams from the real world. These friendlies begin with a trip to sister nation Montserrat, then moderately good Afghanistan, followed by Iceland, Latvia, Chile, Germany and finally the big match against Brazil. The games are set to increase in difficulty, to test the team to the fullest, and guage just how good they are.
After this, there needs to be a reform in the FA. Main man Klaus Oppenheimer just doesn't cut the mustard anymore, and needs to be sacked, along with all his cronies. Finally, we need to enter the full World Cup! Maserrat are scheduled to make their debut appearance in WC20, but if they are to survive it may need to be sooner.
Whilst it all may seem like doom and gloom at the moment, it's not all so bad. Maserrat are 10th seeds in the U21 world, with major prospects for the next tournament, whilst money has been flooding in after the recent NIL tournament hosted by Maserrat, which will be used to improve training facilities. What's next for Maserratian football? Watch this space...

OOC: In a word, "Huh?" Domestic Matches and an Under-21 Championship have precisely what to do with each other?

OOC: In a word, "Huh?" Domestic Matches and an Under-21 Championship have precisely what to do with each other?[OOC: Sounds to me like what he's saying is that his domestic league's club teams have the right to tell the national team no when they try to call up a player. That's a direct violation of FIFA guidelines that say the national team has priority over a club team.
Hey, if he wants his U21 team to go the way of the U.S. Olympic men's basketball team, who are we to stop him?]

You know, I was planning for the FA to change the rule again, thus prompting the resignation of several senior members and leading to happy, happy Maserratian peoples just before the next tournament. It's just something that needed to happen - a purge of the system - it's not a call for beneficial handicapping, or footballing suicide, it's just an RP (for which I expect no recognition in the RP bonus thingy, and probably wouldn't get anyway).
