Syskeyia

Since this is my thousand post (now that I elminated a useless #tag# post ;) ), I've decided to give a bit of detial on something that I have spent a good time working on, namely, the whole storyline behind the Syskeyian Civil War of 1300-1303 and the establishment of the Republic of Syskeyia.

While it is well known that Syskeyia is currently a Republic, this has not been the case. Until 1225, what is now known as "Syskeyia" was composed of a large number of quarreling fiefdoms, which were united after defeating a Chinese invasion that year. When that happened, Duke John I Williamshire of New Nicaea was crowned king of Syskeyia. He then founded Syskeyiapolis for his capital, and all was well.
Until his grandson came to the throne.
Coming to the throne in 1277 as Adam II, the third Williamshire to hold the Syskeyian throne was a Christian only in name, for he had secretly gained a perverted interest in the occult and psuedo-mystical. Eventually shorning his Christian image, he took on the name of Achilles and attempted to undo the work that Anselm Williamshire, late archbishop of Syskeyiapolis and "Apostle to the Syskeyians," had done.
Mindful of the effects that the Christian martyrs had, Achilles did not persecute his former bretheren in faith at first. He included "Christ" into his syncretistic(sp?) pantheon of gods, including Buddha, Vishnu, Moses, and Zeus.
He also discriminated against Christians, doing his best to keep them from the royal court.
But there was one Christian he just would not fire.
