I am curious as to how to start a role play such as Jedi Academy where players respond to sign up. Are players given passwords when the role play starts? What is the difference between open and closed role plays?

((Nope, signing up just means that the host will know to expect you; there's no passwords involved. Open means that a anyone who cares can participate, whereas closed means that only certain people can.
There's some really swell stickies addressing these and other topics in the NationStates and International Incidents forums. I'd check them out if you haven't all ready.
