Pogo Alliance sends out call for aid against terrorists and potential civil unrest

The Pogo Alliance

During its brief existence, the Pogo Republic and its allies managed to make several enemies. This, historians agree, was mostly due to the fact that the Republic's President had the diplomatic tact of a sledgehammer. So it was no surprise when tactical nuclear strikes annihilated several major cities and a significant proportion of the population. Certainly it was no surprise to the President, who took an extended holiday a week before the strike, leaving his tragically inept Vice President in charge.

--------------

Tim Haines, currently the acting-President of the newly formed Pogo Alliance, stared morosely at the report. Sixty deaths, at least a hundred wounded, and extensive structural damage. And this was a relatively small attack.

It was almost a year after the nuclear strikes, and the Alliance was in the grip of a series of bombings against prominent buildings. So far, no group had admitted responsibility for the attacks, and most suspected it to be the work of the Republic's former allies, who had been indiscriminately targeted in the wake of the Republic's indiscretions.

Haines had never wanted a position of responsibility. He was nephew of the former President of Pogo, and had had the position of Vice President granted to him as a birthday present. When the President vanished, and the country was plunged into anarchy, Haines was accelerated into power by default. Somehow he had kept his position, but there was a growing demand for a less corrupt, more competent government. The chances for a violent coup were growing daily, and the constant acts of terrorism did not help. In desperation, Haines had sent out an international call for aid. He had no standing army to speak of, and no allies. He could only hope that his uncle's reputation was not too widely known.

(OOC: I'm fairly new at RPing, so I hope I haven't fouled this up too badly. Please point out any mistakes I've made. By the way, if anyone who was associated with the original incidents that led up to the annihilation of the Republic wants to join this, feel free to do so. I hope that this doesn't resurrect any animosities, as that's far from my intention. I simply want to build off what I feel was an interesting chain of events, even if it did get a little out of hand.

To everyone else who has no idea what I'm babbling about, I apologise.)
