Stargate RP Sign-up (BETA)
Mercenary Soldiers
23-09-2004, 02:35
Serious roleplayers only!
This is a joint effort between myself & Tarlachia, for fans of the 'Stargate SG-1' & 'Stargate: Atlantis' series from the SCI-FI network. It'll have an NS-style twist, though.
The storyline is still in limbo at the moment, but it'll be something along the lines of an exploratory mission focusing on the discovery of alien technology with military applications.
Another point still up for debate is for the composition of the team(s)
Option 1 is that there be a single multinational team comprised of up to six individuals from participating nations.
Option 2 is for each nation to have their own 4-6 man team, with an SG-# designation for communication purposes.
I personally would like a modern-tech-ish tech level, at least initially. This could be a single RP, or a whole series of 'em, that's up for debate as well.
Other races besides humans could work, for example an Argonian lizard-man (Wandering Argonians), or some breed of elf. I'd like magic & uber-heroes to be left out of the equation, for example no hurling of magic fireballs or double-fsiting high-recoil weaponry (i.e. Those of you who like that twin SMG or dual Desert-Eagle thing are SOL).
Basically I'm just trolling for interested RP'ers, then we'll all discuss the finer points of the RP.

Sounds interesting. Are completely fictional nations allowed, those not based on RL nations?
The Resurgent Dream
23-09-2004, 03:47
I'm interested but I really can't figure out how to work anyone from my nation into it. Didn't there used to be nations based on the Stargate universe who interacted with all the other nations outside specialized settings?
I would want to do this, would help my developing nation, just to put some of my men out there, or one. I just like the idea of having one team of people, instead of a whole bunch of teams.
Assington

Definitely interested.

Obviously, I'm going to be participating in this thread, and being that this was both mine and MS's idea, I'm obviously going to take the exalted title of Co-host once again for the records...
I'm kind of leaning toward a single team myself. I think it becomes too complicated with multiple teams...
Also, as for the technology, I agree, use basically modern weaponry, and weaponry gained from other races as we RP, but nothing so godmoddish. If it was in the stargate series, Atlantis series, or the movie, then I'd say it's ok to use here. I'm going to stress the following:
JUST KEEP YOUR TECHNOLOGY REASONABLE.
I've got some ideas on new tech and stuff...
Other than that...let's have a great time, and remember that this is NS style Stargate!
Assington
23-09-2004, 16:18
I'm leaning towards the one team. And please tell me we can use those awesome little green zappy guns the Go'ould have... :rolleyes:

Well i'm interested in R'ping the bad guys :). I assume your gonna have bad guys.
Tarlachia
23-09-2004, 21:31
Fortestan, Fictional nations are allowed in this thread, after all it's NS.
The Resurgent Dream, Yes, there is at least one nation I know for sure that derives its name and history from something of Stargate.
Assington, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about in regards to that little zappy green gun, but as long as it isn't something that outright owns anyone who opposes the user, it's accepted in my book to be used in this thread.
The Resurgent Dream, no magic will be acceptable in this thread. MS made that clear when he started this signup thread. However, I would say that having some characters with mind powers such as telepathy, telekinesis would be acceptable, so long as its held in moderation. No 'Professor X' kind of character.
Unified Sith, of course there will be bad guys...what's the point of having a military/sci-fi thread without the bad guys? :D
I'll collaborate with MS soon to get down the specifics of weaponry restrictions, character stat retrictions, etc. Look for it.

I'm interested, multinational team certainly, though the number of people who actually go through the gate as part of the expeditionary teams should be restricted to my personal preference of six at the most, with four being the ideal number. That's purely based from what I've read about current preferred team sizes for the SAS.

I think I better put down a list of people so far who've asked to join this thread.
1)Mercenary Soldiers
2)Tarlachia
3)Fortestan
4)The Resurgent Dream
5)Sinear
6)Assington
7)Lord Atum (???)
8)Golden Simitar
9)Unified Sith
10)Tom Joad

Upon review of this, I suggest that we put a cap on the number of RPer's in this thread MS. Maybe allow another four more RPers to enter, but close it after that.
I think I shall pull rank here and state that it would be best in the interests of all to have a single SG team. I have currently counted 5 definite votes for this option. That is nearly the majority vote (11 participants at this point in time).
After that, we can split the entire list into three groups: SG team, Friendly forces(on other worlds), Hostile Forces(on other worlds). I suggest everyone start stating what they would particularly like to RP as.
I'll be part of the SG team, preferrably the captain.
Unified Sith

Of Course I want to rp as the bad guy, as I do in every other thread. Well its really up to you guys. Who do you want to face a Ga’ould system lord such as Anubis or how about an Azgard sect. It is really up to you guys. I would like to rp as Anubis though.

Despite my initial wish to be a member of the SG team, actually I'd prefer to carry out the role of one of the base personnel. Afterall if the SG team screw up the bad guys always end up attacking the SGC.
The Golden Simatar

I'll play a SG team member.
Mercenary Soldiers
28-09-2004, 01:01
OOC: We may need to divide up into two multinational teams, for the sake of not cluttering & confusing all involved.
I'm thinking Atlantis/SG-1 style where there's a central hub (SG-1), with multiple teams out at one time (Different mini-threads per mission).
Weaponry-wise, I have a few sites where you can go pick stuff out.
www.securityarms.com
Anything & everything firearms related, complete with pics, but lacking stats & such.
www.colt.com
Comprehensive database detailing Colt's line of handguns, revolvers, and assault weapons, including the M16A4/M4 series & its 9mm SMG variant.
www.glock.com
The gold standard in semi-auto pistols. Contains pics & specs for the entire Glock line, as well as the world's smallest SMG, the Glock 18.
Character-wise, I'll have to send in my staple badass, Dekker Bray.
Bray's an ex-Navy SEAL who specializes in unarmed combat & small arms use.
I'd put him as a shooter on the team roster.
Phalanix
28-09-2004, 01:28
Heh sweet I'll use a new guy Chester Knight he is a ex-S.W.A.T. sharpshooter with demolitions and basic compter skills. I'll put him as a demo/shooter.
I'll be using Ben Kirth, fourteen year officer in the military, but a scientist as well. Is smart, and has a good aim.

ok...I'm gonna compile the list so far:
SG Team #1:

Techon:
SG-Central:
Tarlachia: General (name)
The Evil Badness:

Offworld Friendlies
None so far...
Obviously this list will be edited as I get more information...
I'll be using Lieutenant Mary Beth Henderson
Tom Joad
28-09-2004, 12:36
Jared Plisken - Originally a shooter he found his true calling to be in a command role, an adept computer technichian he's been waiting patiently for something to go wrong which will require him to jury rig the system.

((OOC Info for you))
Lord Atum is a Goa'uld based nation hence his ooc comment and interest. Pity about the no Magic thing, as currently I am in a Roleplay with Lord Atum that is moving on with some planned events. It would have been nice to tie myself into this but Giltheran is Magic heavy since we have no tech above Sword and shield.
Ahh well, see you out there, looks like Giltheran will just have to establish it's own program independent of your own :p

OOC: Sorry I'm late in replying...
Pvt. Harry Mills is a regular soldier, with fairly good shooting skills with an assault rifle (five bullets within 50mm radius, using an unscoped SA80, at 300m), and a capable shot with an SMG (he generally uses an FN P90 (the weapon of choice for SG1)). He doesn't have much hand to hand training, but is physically strong enough to hold his own in a fist-fight.

I'll get my character specs sometime tonight or tommorow morning.
Allied Alliances

I'll do it as well. My favorite show of all time. I'll be Colonel Harpor. Main weapon is a 7.96mm machine gun, and P-90 as sidearm. Commands a tactical SG team. Very skilled at hand-to-hand combat.

On the show, there's always Airmen instead of Privates as it's an Air Force, and not an Army, base.
I'd like to join, if it's not too late, as a friendly alien race.
Which raises the question: would I RP the whole race, or just one member of that race?
Allied Alliances

Also, I should compile a list:
Team:
Colonel Johnne Harpor
Lt. Colonel Jeanne Paske
Major Omewhey Jin
He'Ja (the Goa'uld System Lord turned Taari side)
Commanding General:
Major General William Hawkings
Offworld Allies: Asgard, Nox, Tolans, Tok'ra, and Ancients.
Enemies: Goa'uld, Megerians, Freiters.

Very well, Airman Harry Mills. By the way, isn't a side-arm generally a pistol?
Technically, a sidearm is a weapon that can be easily drawn and fired should your primary weapon run out of ammo, break, jam, etc. Most of the time this is a pistol, or very small SMG (like an MP7), but I guess a P90 could be small and light enough to be considered a sidearm.
I am not parcipitating, but here's a VERY good link for both weapons and pictures for guns: http://world.guns.ru/main-e.htm

29-09-2004, 05:22
This is the more complete list I have compiled. I have arranged the teams to be two in number, no more. There is also going to be a SG-C group as well...(we've gotta have a home SOMEWHERE... lol). Also, I will spearhead the SG-1 team, and MS will spearhead the SG-2 team. I will also RP the General in SGC, so that MS and I will have the executive positions to make sure that the thread continues as we want it to.

SG Team #1:
Tarlachia: Colonel Travis Clarke
New Utter Madness: Private Harry Mills (reg. soldier)
Emanara: Lieutenant Mary Beth Henderson

SG Team #2:
Mercenary Soldiers: Colonel Dekkar Bray (commander of SG-2)
Techon: Colonel Dr. Ben Kirth (14 year military officer-scientist)
Allied Alliances: Lieutenant Johnne Harpor
Golden Simatar: Civilian: Dr. James Crandle

Tarlachia: General Jack Billa
Tom Joad: Jared Plisken (computer technician, soldier)
Ageaol: Alvax Lovad (genius, technician)
The Evil Badness:
Unified Sith: Anubis (Goa'uld)
Assington: TBA (support character)
Fruity Loops: Replicators
Offworld Friendlies:
Cairmia: TBA
Unified Sith: Tokra race
Asgard Hegemony: Azgard race
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As you can see some spaces are still needed to be filled for various positions. I'll leave them open, first come, first serve.
Allied Alliances, I'm sorry, but I can't allow you to have your own SG team. I've placed you with the second team though, so just deal with it.
Cairmia, you may RP as an individual leading an entire friendly alien race, that'll fit best with the thread. The same idea goes as well for the hostiles.
Once we get the open positions filled, I'll converse with MS and get our plans for the thread ironed out some more, and tell you all here.
29-09-2004, 13:53
given that I am an Asgard nation, I'd like to sign up for the spot, but I'm not sure how often I'll be able to post, due to computer problems
OOC: I would like to join, but the no magic/future tech bit kina excludes the Thelas.... and also, it would be hard to work in, seeing as how Thelas has its own Stargate in operation.
Hey I've been wanting to do my own Stargate RP.
Still I'll join in this one if its possible?
Probadly as Ruskkia, a Victorian-eraish nation, which has discovered a Stargate by chance (ie during the construction of a wasteland waterway/railway).
This of course was seaveral decades ago and the Imperium of Ruskkia has a number of colonies on other worlds, so a Ruskkie team maybe be encoutered.
Also Ruskkia maybe part of conflicts on otherworlds, you know how touchy natives can be!
BTW Stargate SG1 season eight should be on tv soon here in the UK.
Altantis, I'm aware of but not sure when it will be aired over here.
Unified Sith, you've been approved to RP the Tokra.
Golden Simatar, you've been approved to be the civilian for SG-2.
Asgard Hegemony, you've been approved for the Azgardian race.
Thelas, I can't allow you to be another offworld friendly, but if you want, you can become part of SG-C, or another Evilness RPer.
Russkia, the same goes for you that I just said for Thelas.
Also, everyone please try to get your character stats up ASAP.
Just for that idea Fruity Loops, you're in, you've got the last open spot for the Evilness sector.
GS, *chuckle* think you modeled your guy after Daniel Jackson? lmao! acceptable stats...
*will update the list above*
Side note too clear things up, Techon is actually a planet of itself. So I will have his past be an SG team, most likely SG-2, have come and visited Techon once, and thats when he joined it. Techon is almost exactly like Earth (think of like the most planets SG-1 visits in the show. This one is a terran planet much like Earth.
Name: Ben Kirth
Rank: Colonel
Age: 34
Standard Weapon Choices: P90
Hair: Dark Brown, shaggy
Eyes: Green
Bio: Born in Techon, he was raised in a estate farm outside the main capital. He was a farmer until he turned 16, where he went to college. He mastered in Physics. He then at the age of 20, joined the Techon military. At age 32 he and a group of other soldiers were sent to intercept travelers from the StarGate. It turned out the visitors were from Earth, another planet where they had established a control over the StarGate and used it to travel to other planets. Intruiged Kirth begged his officers if he could go back with the humans from Earth, they agreed and he was sent to be second in command of an SG team. He is now a colonel, and a member of SG-2.
Wick...the only positions needed filling now are personnel for the SG-Command center. All other positions are filled up now.
I'll be on the SGC if that's ok.
Name: Alvax Lovad
Age: 27
Weapons: Taser. Laser
Hair: Light brown
Eyes: Blue
Bio: Alvax was born a genius. His IQ tests gave him an IQ of approximately 210. He started reading before he started walking. He went to kindergarten at age 3 and graduated high school at age 15. He went to college at age 16 and graduated at age 19. He got PhDs in physics, engineering, and mathematics. He joined the SGC at age 24. He was given a standard issue rifle upon entrance but due to his HORRIBLE shooting, they allowed him to keep his own weapons, his taser and laser. He developed the taser at age 14 when he felt really bored. He gave the taser three settings. Stun, short, or overload/kill. He bought a laser at age 19. He then modified it to make it better. He increased the fire rate, decreased recoil, and changed it to three settings. Burn, Stun, and wound.
Rank: 2nd Lieutenant
Age: 27
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 160 lbs.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Auburn
Preferred Loadout: M4 Colt Carbine, HK USP .45
Bio: For the better part of his life, Peter Bryce knew of no home other than a U.S. air base; his father was a career Air Force officer, and that meant his family went whererever he did. Young Peter looked up to the senior Bryce and aspired to tear through the skies just as his father did in his F-16. When becoming of age to join the military, he naturally chose to become an airman and quickly rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant thanks to his uncanny abilities as a talented fighter pilot. It was not until the building of the F-302 did he become acquainted with the Stargate program; as one of the most skilled pilots in all branches of the military, he was re-assigned to test the new craft and partook in the epic battle against the Go'auld in the Antarctic. Feeling that it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to join an offworld team, he requested to be transferred to SGC. General Hammond was at first unwilling to recruit a pilot with basically no special-ops experience, but after some convincing that he would be a necessity should the need arise for a skilled pilot, he was hired right on the spot.
Lesser Goa'uld were never just soldiers. They already controlled a base (normally a world or mother ship) in the name of their Systemlord. Sometimes, but not always, they would have their own First Prime and Jaffa directly worshipping themselves, rather than the system lord. After all, the Jaffa and humans are taught that Goa'uld are gods. Can't exactly have those in the rank and file.
Name: Bray, Dekker A.
Age: 35 years
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 267 lbs
Hair: Brown, longer military cut
Eyes: Blue
Rank: Colonel
Nationality: American
Primary Armament: Colt M4A1 Assault Carbine, 5.56x45mm NATO
Secondary Armament: AMT M1911A1 Hardballer, .45 ACP
Alternate Armament: Colt Defender, .45 ACP
Previous Service:
USMC: 4 years
Navy SEAL: 12 years
Mercenary: 3+ years
Bio:
The man known as Dekker Bray is something of a legend in most mercenary circuits. A former Marine & later Navy SEAL, Bray is highly skilled with small arms & small-scale explosives. A devout practicioner of the martial arts throughout his life, Bray holds high-level degrees in Shaolin-Do, Krav Manga, Hanganah, and MCMAK. A competent team leader, Bray is cool under fire but has something of a short fuse off of the battlefield. Oddly, he volunteered for the SG-2 command assignment, leaving his position of HTH instructor & leader of RDMA Special Operations Team 1 with the Red Dawn Mercenary Army, one of the world's largest private military corporations.
OOC: An alternate weapon is your backup sidearm, most of the time it's a small revolver matching the caliber of your sidearm & sometimes your primary weapon. Smith & Wesson makes a 9mm revolver for use by patrol officers, if you're using a 9x19mm sidearm or primary weapon. There's also a 5.7x21mm Army AP for a sidearm for anyone using the pansy-ass P90.
Well. The general idea there would be that Ra was arrogant enough to do that. The populance of Abydos were instructed to think of the soldiers of Ra as gods too for that matter. And to be fair, the Ashrak are basically soldiers.
Well, this is interesting....I just started watching SG-1 this weekend, after watching SG for the first time a couple weeks before.
To say the least, from what I've seen of the show thus far, I'm QUITE interested....
OOC: As previously stated, this is a beta sign-up thread to check for interested parties. As MS & Tarlachia haven't finalized a storyline, it might be a while. In the meantime, perhaps a different thread should start, along the same lines yet with different players, an Atlantis like offshoot?
I'm also surprised MS hasn't mentioned this:
Shouldn't the teams (4-5 members) be organized like fireteams?
The order is the chain of command, along with US Army-standard weapon choices. I believe this would enhance realisum & make the teams more flexable.
Team Leader (TL): M4A1 (typically)
Automatic Rifleman (AR): M249 Squad Automatic Weapon
M203 Gunner/Grenadier (GL): M4A1 w/ M203
Rifleman (R): M4A1 (Also serves as basic medic)
If you want I could start a thread to keep us busy while they think of a storyline. I have a few ideas that could work.
Well all you have to do is start a thread for the SG team members to goof off in.
and the title is SG-RP Goofoff
Oo..interesting idea that'd be too hard to run to actuallydo, but is interesting none the less...
Two SG threads!
Each on alternate earths! And then we crossover at one point and do a spinoff series!
Damn. Its too early in the morning, I'm thinking like I'm crack.
Two SG threads...wtf is going on here...?
Right the Ruskkies' Stargate Project
Aim: To expand the Ruskkie Empire by annexing/colonizing other worlds. This however has led the Ruskkies into conflict with other races...
Command Structure: Very much similar to the SGC. Ruskkies's own base over seen by a Lord General.
Teams: Usually 10 men Imperial Army squads lead by a Sergeant. Larger forces commanded by higher ranking officers. Usual starts to missions is as follows;
1. Squad sent through the gate wearing gasmasks, one squad member carries a bird in a cage (like miners checking for gas in the old days did).
2. If the bird doesn't die, then the air is safe to breathe. Co's the bird dies, then air isn't safe.
3. One member carrises radio set and sends back a message saying if air is safe or not. If no reply is sent back, planet is unsafe. see below for example.
4. Course if the palnet is highly toxic, then it is unsafe for coloney.
5. The squad checks out the area surrounding the gate and then report back.
6. A larger force/convoy then gets sent through sometime later.
Weapons: Mostly WW2 sytle rifles, maybe artillery at a later date if needed.
Notes: Main base is quite large, large enough to launch aircarft through the gate.
Work is being done at the base for the deployment for a special 'Stargate Fighter Craft' built using captured technology.
What if the other side is an atmosphere that just doesnt contain oxygen, or has no atmosphere whatsoever?
Simple gas masks wont protect a group sent over
If you watch SG-1 you'll see they send over a probe first. It's just comon sense to send something over that can enusre that place is safe.
What I was thinking for the idea for the opener is an actual opener, like a short RP that lets us introduce our characters. Starting on Earth at the SG-C of course, I want a civilian, or the archeologist to be the start, I will have a guy call the civilian, and then a car comes to pick him up and brings him to the SGC. Then we will go from there, with that being his first time in the SGC, they will go to some other planet that will give us a way to bring in the outside Earth characters. So I will start it, whoever has a civilian and calls the spot first they will get the phone call.
I rarely check the boards b/c I hate them, I only saw this because it was listed as one of the things on the tool bar of NS home page.
Offworld Friendlies:
Unified Sith: Tokra race
Ruskkies: Ruskkie empire (humans)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ruskkie, you win the best stats submission. However, you'll have to make your group part of a civilization of humans not of Earth.
Everyone:
MS and I have decided that because of the number of RPers in this thread, it would be too difficult to try to strictly run the thread. Thus, we have decided that we will allow the thread to be almost free-for-all in the sense of what will happen. However, as I have stated before, he and I have positioned ourselves as the leaders of any of the "good groups" so this will be controlled in some respect.
Everyone on the "good" side (specifically the SG teams/SGC of earth) should have some sort of intro post that explains why they have been chosen (do a short story or something).
MS will start the thread. He will leave a link here for all of us to use to get to the thread. Enjoy, and remember, its only a storytelling game!
Cheers.
Anyway the Ruskkies are Victorian era-ish people who don't have the luxury of a probe. With the planet having no oxygen or atomsphere, this is covered by No.4

fine by me MS.
I've found quite a problem in this, the fact Ben is from Techon which is on another planet, and in his bio I said he joined the team after they took the StarGate to Techon on a mission...MS said in his post this was the first time that they opened it, so either we have to change it, or we can have the first RP be them going to Techon.
Tarlachia
11-10-2004, 18:54
ok...I guess to fix this problem, we'll just have to have a couple of expenditive soldiers that will be replaced by Ben and anyone else that claims this similar problem. For now, just wait until the opportunity for you to enter the thread comes.
Feel free to do a couple of posts that explain what's going on on Techon, before SG-1 and/or 2 arrives.

alright, thank you
I thought that I might as well let you guys know what planets the Ruskkies have conquered since Private Earnest Whittleton stepped through the Stargate some 50 years ago;
CHIMERA
A red desert Mars like planet. Conflict currently in progress between Ruskkie forces and War of the Worlds like Tripod war machines.
GARRACK
Somewhat swampy planet. Ruskkie forces in stalemated skirmishes against native 'moth-men' armed with poisoned arrow firing 'mag-bows' and long barreled single shot black powder rifles.
BARAN
Farm world.
CREMTORIUM
Harsh, barren penal colony world.
SODKA
Newly discovered forest world, team currently investigating area surrounding the Stargate. Some 'abanonded farmsteads and towns' have been discovred so far.
SKARO
Disused factory/forgeworld. Small part now operational, currently being explored by the Ruskkie Imperial Guild o0f Steamfitters.
VALHALLA
Ice world. Underground 'cities' founded have been founded.
TORON
Penal mining world.

Hey, I know you guys already started this, but is there a way I could get in? I was thinking about doing an RP like this at some point, and this would let me springboard.
Here's how we could get someone from my nation in:
-My nation is noted for its cutting edge technology, and has a lot of high end computer research (*cough*). So, leaving out the AI part, maybe you guys used some of our systems to aid in research, and we have some people on hand to keep things running, and of course the prerquisite intelligence liason.

Kaukolostan (sorry if I misspelled, but I'm too lazy to scroll down to read it correctly lol), sorry about the delay in time for this response.
I'm not going to say that you're forbidden to enter, because I haven't seen responses by many of the people in this thread so far. I think I'll let you sit in the waiting area and see if there's an opening.
Also, feel free to telegram me with an interest to join my region 'Fatal Terrain'. It's a region that is comprised of character RPers like Assington, Valient and I. If you're interested, you'll have to TG me and let me know, then I'll send you the password to enter.
I'm planning for the Ruskkies to 'meet' the Goa'uld.
Basically a Ruskkie outpost gets attacked by 'metal huamn lizards with red glowing eyes', course the Ruskkies sends through a squad to assinate their commander/System Lord.
Anyway view the following link to get an idea of the sort of weapons the Ruskkies use;
