** BREAKING NEWS **

CBC News has received unconfirmed reports that a high-ranking member of the Celdonian delegation to the 4CACE conference in the Xikuangese city of Lhijr has been taken from the delegate’s hotel to a nearby hospital suffering from an unspecified ailment.

Officials have released no clues as to the identity of the delegate, but Bill Stevenson, Minister of Trade, is currently attending a debate at the conference.

Television and radio broadcasts throughout Celdonia were suddenly interrupted by the announcement that Mike McKay, the Foreign Minister, was about to address the nation. The news feed was offered to any news agency that wished to carry it.

The newsroom was crowed with carefully vetted journalists and broadcasters, dark suited men and woman guarded ever exit, and two very large men stood at the side of the small platform.

The buzz in the room silenced as McKay appeared from a side door and took his place at the lectern, the front of it draped with the flag of Celdonia.

He paused for a few moments, before he spoke:

“Ladies and gentleman, it is my sad duty to inform you that at approximately 7AM this morning President Clinton suffered a severe cardiac arrest. I can also inform you that the President is in hospital here in Lhijr and is receiving the best possible medical care. His condition is critical but stable.

Whilst the President is recovering it is the decision of Cabinet that I shall temporarily assume the President’s responsibilities.

I am sure you will join with me in wishing President Clinton a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with the President and his family at this time.

If there are any questions I will take a few.”

OOC: McKay is attending 4CACE ( http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=345231), and Clinton had just arrived to deliver a speech.

++ TO: ALL INTERNATIONAL NEWS AGENCIES ++

For your attention:

Mike McKay, acting President of Celdonia, shall broadcast a message in 15 minutes time from the city of Lhijr, host of the 4CACE conference, in Xikuang. The newsfeed shall be made available, under standard terms, to any agency wishing to carry the broadcast.

[15 minutes later]

Mike McKay stands behind a podium. The camera captures only upper half of him, revealing the top of the Celdonian flag draped across it. Only those observers present in the room will be aware of the very large number of armed guards.

Citizens of Celdonia and the world, I am afraid I find myself in a position I had position I had hoped would never come. However, if I can ask you to bear with me briefly I have two very important announcements to make.

Firstly, it is my sad duty to inform you that at 1:30PM President Clinton passed away in his sleep. The President was admitted to hospital just after 7AM this morning and passed away peacefully some 6 hours later. Our condolences are extended to Mrs Clinton and her and the President’s children, and on behalf of Mrs Clinton I would wish to thank the medical personnel who attended the President in his final hours.

I can also therefore confirm that I shall assume Presidential responsibility until an election is called.

He pauses for a brief moment before looking up to continue.

I am afraid I have further disturbing news, of which some of you may now becoming aware of.

I can confirm that within the last hour a series of explosions have taken place throughout the Celdonian Diplomatic Quarter. At present the full details are not known, but I can tell that four explosions have taken place: one in Revolution Park, one in an outdoor café, one near the Xikaungese embassy, and one that has completely destroyed the embassy of the Holy Emprise of the Water Cooler. The full scale of the casualties is not clear, but emergency services predict that the number may well be counted in the hundreds, particularly as the Coolian Embassy was staffed at the time.

Our hearts and minds are with those affected by this tragedy, and I give you all the assurance that we shall not rest until the perpetrators are caught and brought to justice.

I shall also be returning to Celdonia directly after this broadcast, and further information will be issued when it become available.

Thank you.

OOC: I’m tying two events up in the same timescale here so I hope it doesn’t screw up anything.
