his may sound stupid but what do we have to do? How do we affect our economy etc.? This may seem stupid but I'm not very clued in.

Not a problem. The short answer is, read the stickies. As well, the general FAQ can also help. They can give you far more information that I can.

Briefly, however, issues affect your civil and political freedoms along with your economic rank. The choice you make on each issue will either raise or lower your civil and political ranking - which also affects your economic ranking.

As for "what to do" it depends on whether you want to explore the roleplay aspect of nation states or join a region that wants to invade other regions and seize UN delegate control. You can also be a defender as well. I'll admit that I like the roleplay part more, but that's just my preference.

Others will hopefully post more information. I have to sleep now. But, welcome to NS!

edit: As well, OOC = "Out of character" which means the player behind the account is talking to you while "IC" = "In character". That means that the characters in the nation are speaking.

The roleplay aspect is HUGE in NationStates, most of your countries stuff will happen on the boards, as the days pass, your population will grow, and won't stop, just pick a tech level and go, and try not to piss off the bigger nations
