CIN: Elections in Isla De Plata....

Colerica
14-09-2004, 17:13
The United Empire of Colerica, following the Colerican-led liberation of the island nation of Isla De Plata, has -- at long last -- set up elections. The Island Republic of Isla De Plata now has the task of choosing its new leader. Here's a closer look at the parties and their candidates......

Imperial Royalist Party of Isla De Plata
The Imperial Royalist Party is considered the most powerful party currently in the Isla De Plata political scene. Their leaders have close ties to the Colerican Imperial family and they advocate a strong friendship with the United Empire. Critics say that they advocate too much of a friendship with the UEC and that they aren’t looking out for the best of Isla De Plata.

Maj. General DeClar Ramos (ret)
Sex: Male
Age: 40
Former Position: Major General in the United Empire of Colerica’s First Imperial Army. Served bravely in the Colerica-Isla Larga War. Considered a close friend of the Emperor. A strong leader.
Major Issues:

-- Strongly against abortion
-- Strongly for more military funding
-- Against personal firearm ownership
-- Strongly for a more centralized government
-- Strongly for close ties to the United Empire of Colerica
-- Strongly for the Military Conscription Act
-- Strongly for the death penalty
-- Capitalist
-- Against Free Speech Act

Freedom Party of Isla De Plata
The Freedom Party is considered an upstart group that appeals to the youth of Isla De Plata. Running a very young candidate, they have been criticized that they are immature, inexperienced, and naïve.

Spencer Rontosso
Sex: Male
Age: 24
Former Position: Political activist in Isla De Plata. Jailed by the Ma’dah since he was sixteen. Both of his parents were killed by Ayden Uraine’s regime. Passionate speaker with great charisma. Inexperienced.
Major Issues:

-- Strongly for personal firearm ownership
-- Strongly against centralized government; advocates a confederacy
-- For the death penalty
-- Against the Military Conscription Act
-- Against abortion
-- Against closer ties to the United Empire of Colerica
-- Capitalist
-- For Free Speech Act

Socialist Mend’Ravo Party of Isla De Plata
The Socialist Mend’Ravo Party is a mixed-bag of open socialists and communists in Isla De Plata. The Ma’dah regime brutally oppressed political freedoms when they had control and they were especially harsh on the nation’s socialists/communists. This party is not considered to be a strong choice among the highly-capitalistic society.

‘Comrade’ Kara Quelaan
Sex: Female
Age: 29
Former Position: Political activist that was jailed for the bombing of a Ma’dah government building two months prior to the Colerican-led liberation of the island nation. A staunch socialist, she is considered to be far too extreme for the mainstream Plataeese people. Nonetheless, she has decided to run.
Major Issues:

-- Strongly for abortion
-- Strongly against more military funding
-- Strongly against personal firearm ownership
-- Strongly for a more centralized government
-- Strongly against close ties to the United Empire of Colerica
-- Strongly against the Military Conscription Act
-- Strongly against the death penalty
-- Socialist
-- For Free Speech Act
-- Calls for a, quote, “worker’s revolution”

Ma’dah Reborn Party of Isla De Plata
The Ma’dah Reborn Party is made up of the many remaining members of the former oppressive regime. Not considered to be well-liked. Openly advocates the rebirth of the Ma’dah regime.

Brig. General Santos Briggs (ret)
Sex: Male
Age: 44
Former Position: Brigadier General in the former Ma’dah army. Calls for the rebirth of the Ma’dah. Believed to know where Mage Uraine is hiding at. Not considered to be the most popular of candidates, but has a slight edge over both the Socialist Mend'Ravo and Nazi Unification parties.....
Major Issues:

-- Against abortion
-- Strongly for more military funding
-- Strongly against personal firearm ownership
-- Strongly for a unitary government
-- Strongly against any ties to the United Empire of Colerica
-- Strongly for the Military Conscription Act
-- Strongly for the death penalty
-- Doesn’t care about the markets, so long as the gov’t gets their “fair share” of the profits
-- Strongly against Free Speech Act

Nazi Unification Party of Isla De Plata
The National Socialist Unification Party is, alarmingly, the biggest third party in the election. Hated by many, they advocate a political agenda that would make Adolf Hitler proud.

Kal Montross
Sex: Male
Age: 32
Former Position: Had no government position prior to election. Not native to Isla De Plata. Critics call him “Hitler’s Heir” and accost him for being, quote, “Nazi trash.” Advocates eugenics.
Major Issues:

-- For abortion
-- Strongly for more military funding
-- Strongly against personal firearm ownership
-- Strongly for a unitary government
-- Strongly against any ties to the United Empire of Colerica
-- Strongly for the Military Conscription Act
-- Strongly against the death penalty
-- Calls for the gov’t seizure of all national utilities
-- Calls for the “re-education” of all Jews, Gypsies, Bigtopians, and homosexuals in Isla De Plata
-- Strongly against Free Speech Act
-- Strongly for the Cigarette Smoking Ban
-- For the National Labor Front
-- For euthanasia
-- Strongly for animal rights and environmental awareness
-- Demands nationalization of all businesses
-- States that all citizens of the State shall be equal as regards rights and duties
-- Demands that all unearned income become part of the State’s treasury

So, CIN's international poll question is: Who would you vote for?

It is the Brotherhood belief that a strong and powerful government is needed to keep it's citizens safe and in line. Our favourite candidate is Maj. General DeClar Ramos.

Zoogiedom will not officially support any candidate, and will retain cordial relations with Isla de Palata regardless of whom is elected, unless dire circumstances demand otherwise.

OOCly though, I'm a bit reserved about Ramos's anti-'Free Speech Act' and centralization, though this depends on the free speech act's contents and how much centralization. I'm against Rontosso's youth and probably inevitable hotheadedness, and the fact that he doesn't want close relations to Colerica.

The rest, I am staunchly against. If the last three are elected and they follow up on their policies, 'dire' circumstances may arise :)

Just my OOC opinion though, Ramos sounds like you. Overall, I feel that given the options he is the most solid choice.

Question: Why exactly was the Ma'dah regime overthrown in the first place?

Is the name of "Ma'dah" a former political party that once controled the government?

Who was Ayden Uraine?

Uraine was the leader of Ma'dah. Don't quote me on this, but the Ma'dah attacked a cruise vessel (civilian) of Colerica and were on the whole a very oppressive regime. Colerica, Tomzilla, and Zoogiedom attacked and destroyed the Ma'dah, although the overwhelming bulk of the task went to Colerica. It was a bloody long roleplay too. I was but a newb when it started.

Interesting. Due to their policy platfrom the Nation of DeAnte endorses Brig. General Santos Briggs of the Ma’dah Reborn Party. Even if they lose we will continue to offer financial support to the Ma'dah Reborn Party and assist them in everyway to strengthen their party's influence. Good luck.

Question: Why exactly was the Ma'dah regime overthrown in the first place?

As Zoogiedom stated, the Ma'dah regime was overthrown following the sinking of the [i]IMS Montaro, a Colerican ocean liner. The sinking killed nineteen hundred civillians. My nation's intelligence agency, the Colerican Imperial Intelligence Agency (CIIA), found out that the Ma'dah regime had ordered one of their submarines to torpedo the ship.

Secondly, we overthrew the Ma'dah because of their vast crimes against humanity and pure oppression of their people (ironic, considering that my nation hidiously oppresses her people).

Is the name of "Ma'dah" a former political party that once controled the government?

Yes. The Ma'dah was the political party of the Uraine family that had ruled Isla De Plata for over forty years. Ayeden Uraine was the leader of the Ma'dah at the time of the liberation. He was killed by his own generals mid-way through the war. His son, Mage Uraine, took over as the leader of the shattered gov't and called his group the Ma'dah Reborn(e). My military cornered Mage Uraine at his fortress during the last real battle of the war, but he managed to escape due to the help of another nation (who has since left NS...go figure....)

Who was Ayden Uraine?

See above. Uraine ruled with an iron fist until he was assassinated by one of his own generals while trying to rally his officer corps.....

Hope that information helps.....

Half-IC/half-OOC: The 'Free Speech Act' calls for the complete and absolute right to free speech (ie, civillians would have the right to yell "fire!" in a theatre). Ramos is against this. He believes in free speech, but he doesn't believe in it when it threatens others......

Rontosso is both young and hotheaded. His choice to distance his party from the UEC could be his undoing in the election....or it could put him ahead of Ramos.....that's up to the people of Isla De Plata to decide.....

Thanks for that. I always appreciate it when I at least have some understanding of the country whose election I'm voting in.

How long will the voting process take place until a winner is finally decided?

The election polls close tomorrow night at nine PM. The election winner will be announced Monday morning, barring any unusual circumstances.

On a side note, to all those who are interested, I've dug up the original thread on the war....and Zoogie is right....it was one hell of a long RP......http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=304251
