Farran sighed as she waited for her crew to finish their part of thier work. She was long done with her preparation and now waited. Her father who also was a captain of an elite ship called Destiny, told her to never work with the crew, but overlook thier work. He called it a different sort of respect. The kind were the Captain knew how to do it, but didn't have to prove it. Luckily, her crew had worked under her father before and she had worked with them under his leadership, so, the respect was there.

One could say Farran did not look like her father, but her mother. Again, she was lucky because her father was much of an monster. Not that he was frightening, but he was intimidating. He stood, or rather planted himself an unusual six feet 11 inches tall. It was the norm for men during this time to be only about six feet tall. He weighed 276 pounds in mass of muscle and it bulged under the slightest motion, or potential. His face scarred by the many years he lived, was tanned, not from the sun, but by radiation. His once blonde hair now grayed with the worries of his life and especially his daughter, being the only one he had left. His wife and her mother died several years ago of an attack on their ship. Farran took the striking figure of her mother, a slim exactly five feet frame. Her slender waist curved outward at the hips and although, she was short her legs were long and fit. Her face was an almost errie replicate of her mother, creamy oval structure, framed by dark hair that was shoulder-length. She took her mothers deep-sensual black eyes. Her father always said at least you have my personality. That she did.

She was calm, but could get hot-tempered if the time be right. She took her father's respect and was granted it back, from the crew that is. Her intelligence matched and sometimes out witted her father's and her addiction to advantage was passed on to her. She had just returned from a trip through space setting up relations with other nations. She grew bored and her father could see it. It was granted that she may take the ship out once more and investigate further into space and whatever the outcome be was at her fingertips. This excited her because she had no expectations and would not be let down if something out of the ordinary happened.

"Well, kiddo, you set off again." Her father's voice bland and showing no feeling.

"I feel, father, this one will be much more different," excitement flowed with her words.

"That is what I am afraid of."

"Why is that?"

"Nevermind." With that he hugged her.

I haven't been hugged by my father is so long. But it feels good.

"Goodbye."

"Goodbye."

With that she walked away from her father onto her ship. She would have no idea that this trip would change her and the world she knew it completely. Everything was ready and with that they took off into space. Traveling at hyperspeed for several weeks with nothing out of the ordinary happening....

When deep in space the time changed, a days was year back on earth. All it the crew knew this and most were asked to come and not forced. Farran lived for it, but knew her friends were getting older and she was still the same. A few days had past and have few earth years had come and gone.

They were almost to the end of the sector when they had a strange message come across the screen. It took some time and effort to have it decoded.

---We need help---our ship attacked----we are going to die---

Farran scanned the map and located a single vessel torn to pieces. It barely was held together. Pieces of the titanium metal had been torn off and it had been split down the middle. I wonder what could have done that to this ship. It appeared to be just a merchant ship, but its way of being built was definitely not from earth.

Farran ordered several of her men to come with her onto the ship. She would investigate this herself. She messaged back that they would be boarding and would pose no threat to them. On the ship they walked. They were armed with laser dissinergarators and tranquilizers. They walked through what appeared to house the species that lived on the ship while they worked. The interior was errie, but did resemble much of their ship, with darker shades though. Each cubicle they went in was empty as if no one was there. They dug deeper to the core of the ship, by the engine, or what Farran believed would house the engine.

There on the cold black floor lied what looked like a man dressed in metal and light. Farran associated him with a computer man. They layed the stretcher next to him and placed him on it. He was about 220 pounds. They took him to the medical unit in her ship. The doctors began scanning him for any ailments or illnesses and if there was an error in his foundation. They also did a backround check in their computer to see what species it was. This man was the species of Calcuta, a now rare group who had intertwined their beings with that of computers.

Farran watched him as he slept. I wonder what happened to his other kin.? How come he was the only one and where would the others go without a fight?

Her answers would soon come because she saw the flutter of eyes and he opened to them. His red eyes stared into her black eyes and she shivered.

"Hello, I am Captain Farran of Silver Star, from AmandaTheGreat or earth. We are on an expedition to seek space beyond what we have already know. We recieved an message from your ship and came and found only you. We brought you to our ship and you are in our intensive care unit. I have several questions for you at a later time, for now though how are you?"

His dark blue lips moved, but no sound came out. His face twitched and the circuits running up the course of neck and into his skull flashed and blinked.

Farran waited in silence. She kept an eye on his monitor though to see his health and viability.

"We are fine."

"Well, I see that you are fine, but the others where are they?"

"We are all accounted for and all see in place."

"Okay, is there anything you request at this moment?"

"We would not ask the mother unless she knew. We are all fine."

Silence. Farran had not dealt with this species before and she did not know how to react to them.

"We see the future and you have much to learn."

"I am sure I do. I am young still."

"That is not the point. Your fate awaits around the corner."

"My fate? I don't believe in fate."

"Start believing."

"I think we need to have a few more tests ran on you. It is time to get more rest."

"Rest we will. Although, you may not."

Farran walked away, with goose-bumps running up and down her spine. She left the doctors to deal with him. Fate, I make it what I want it to be.

Her dreams that night left her restless and she woke up tired and couldn't remember her dreams. She walked into the medical unit of the ship to find the docter covering up the man.

"What happened?"

"He just stopped completely. There was no signs of failure or anything. I am still looking into it. I just don't understand. We are left with nothing."

"There is a team on their ship investigating."

The doctor shook his head and said, "He was doing so well, I just don't understand. It as if he died in his sleep, leaving us with a lot of unanswered questions."
