World Cup 18 Signup thread

NS World Cup
08-09-2004, 22:51
The NationStates World Cup is about to start its seventeenth instalment, and then it may be a good opportunity to start a thread for potential participants of the eighteenth to express their interest.

To sign up, post in this thread. If you are a newcomer and wishes to participate in the Baptism of Fire tournament (likely to be hosted in about 20 days' time), please state so. If you want to participate in the Under-21 tournament, this is also the place to do it (though that has to be stated separately). An Under-21 application will not be accepted unless you choose one of the four following styles: DEF (defensive), NOR (normal), ATT (attacking) or KAM (kamikaze). Puppets, i.e. nations that are controlled by a person owning another nation, should be signed up separately. As registering e-mails is difficult with Jolt, you are allowed to also state the name of your puppet nation you wish to sign up, in your sign-up post.

Anyone interesting in hosting this tournament, or any other NSWC tournaments, please also state so in this thread.

A short explanation of what the NS World Cup is (courtesy of Starblaydia):

For all players, particularly new and potential Nations.

The NSWC is a tournament for any NS nation who signs up. This World Cup is about to Start its 17th competition, and there are, at the time of writing, four places still available for 'main' nations (not puppets) who want them.

Every team is given a rank based on their performances in previous Cups, and the starting rank is 200 (the Current 'best team in the world' is Eauz, with a rank of 1)

Scores are generated using either a Java program called Leagion or through various or MS Excel sheet 'scorinators' which use random numbers, modified by rank, RP bonus and just plain luck, to produce the scores.

It is encouraged for Nations to RP - roleplay - their matches, team rosters, players and such. Good RPs will help raise your chance of winning (especially in the Baptism of Fire and Colony Cup). Please note: A lot of RPs does not guarantee goals or wins, but your chances are improved or this happening

e.g. Two debutant, Rank 200, nations play each other. One has RP'd a few times, the other has not. Theoretically the RPing nation should have the better chance of victory. That's in theory, at least.

RPs can be Team Roster announcements, fan comments, press conferences, media stories, anything about the game, as long as you've kept to the score as posted or TGd to you by the host/scorer.

NSWC Tournaments:

The World Cup: This is the big one, to decide the World Champions. The premier NS sporting event. This consists, usually, of Group Qualifying matches and the finals stage. Puppet Nations (a 'second' nation owned by a nation) can enter, but must qualify through the Colony Cup (see below)
Current Champion: Eauz

The Under-21 World Cup
A sub-competition for 'main' nations where all players are Under the age of 21 (clever, ain't it?), which helps to boost your World Cup ranking.
Current Champion: Rejistania

The Cup of Harmony
An Invitational Tournament for Nations that don't make it through the Qualifying rounds of the World Cup, but have demonstrated a high degree of interest in the competition through many or quality RPs.
Current Champion: The Belmore Familiy

The Baptism of Fire
A pre-World Cup tournament specifically for debutant Nations, in which RPing allows them to increase their ranking bonus (quite heavily) to promote RPing in the World Cup.
Current Champion: Eystrck

The Colony Cup
A tournament specifically for 'puppet' Nations, which is held before the World Cup proper, which decides which Puppet Nations get through to the World Cup. This prevents one nation signing up their main nation and all their puppets to give them a better chance of winning something. Note as of WC17: Whether this is used as a qualifier for the World Cup is up to the hosts.
Current Champion: Being decided at the moment

LE is right (wait, did I just say that?), Puppets will either be entered into WC18 on 1) A first Come First Served Basis, or 2) A Colony Cup-type competition to sort the proverbial wheat from the chaff.

From now on, I'd suggest signers-up just note that they want their puppet to try for WC18, whichever way puppet-inclusion is done, which is up to WC18 hosts.

If you're in the Baptism of Fire, that'd be the best chance of winning something quickly, as its RP-bonus that make the difference between the teams, other than just blind luck. This is because every debutant team is equally-ranked.

Hello. Sorry for the somewhat strange nature of this communication, but my Jolt account on the forums is not letting me post right now (some such about a "bug"). Anyways, I am just writing you to request a spot in your World Cup 18 and Baptism of Fire competitions for The Allied States of Allsio. I have no puppets, I am only requesting a position for Allsio in the competition within these two brackets.

Thank you for your time and help, I really like the work your doing on this and appreciate the opportunity greatly. Please feel free to send me a telegram if you require any aditional information.

Respectfully,

**Signed**

I would've thought that the Baptism of Fire should be finished before World Cup 18 starts, due to the effect it has on the rankings. Which means it might be a good idea to start it as soon as possible after a sixteenth participant for it has signed up (fifteen's not really a very good number for such a tournament).

Either way, i believed the unofficial/unwritten NS rule was that you can have as many players on the bench as you like but you can only make three substitutions. Not that it really matters of course.
Antaeus Rising
12-10-2004, 15:31
The rule is you have a squad of 23 players, and your starting 11 for all WCQ and WCF matches are taken from 'em. You can only make 3 subs in a match and have I think it's 5-7 players on the subs bench.

[EDIT]

You think if I start the U21WC7 Signup now I'll have 48 nations by the time it rolls around?

I'd say just start the WC19 signup thread a bit earlier i.e. just after the WC17 final

Noting that there are, with Maserrat, 85 entrants, the FALE will now request that Rejistania and NEWI provide some help with the searching for ex-nations.

IE, Communications Committee, it's time to get to work!

I checked the last 2 code-boxes:

Slaikau, Lykaia, Kipto-Mare, Qia on VM (inactive since 30ish days)

Kirata either on VM or ceasing (28 days)

Oceaice, Pterodactyl ceased

First code box didn't really need checking, but done anyway. No problems there.

Kirata now ceased.

Beauz are doing 82 or 92
SquoLE are doing first 82

(WC: 84, BoF: 15, Puppet count: 14)

So 84 enterants, minus

3 ceased = 81 entrants.

plus SN38 = 82 enterants. Which means it doesn't depend upon anything at all - the Hooligans are in!

So with SN38, that's 82? Perfect.

The winners of the WC18 hosting bid have not yet been announced, but in the case of a Bedistan/Eauz World Cup, all entrants after this point will be on a waiting list. Should ten more sign up between now and the start of the Cup (currently predicted to be Friday, October 22), they will all be in; otherwise they would miss out barring any ceasing of nations. If we reach 92 nations and Bedistan/Eauz are hosting, signups will close at that point.

Again, this is if and only if Bedistan and Eauz win the hosting bid. If that is not the case, please disregard this message.

I had only signed up in the BoF, but if there is room or drop outs or anything of the such, can I enter? This is a lot more fun than I had thought it could be.

Actually, you're already signed up for the WC; it came automatically with your BoF signup. So your spot is safe. :)

Congratulations Bedistan and Eauz. Im looking forward to a wonderful world cup, a Bedistani semi-final defeat, a Vilitan and Spaamanian threat of a walkout and the 'slaves getting beaten in round 2 :)

p.s. any chance of the roster thread being put up soon?

The Snub Nose 38 International Football side (The Hooligans), ever aware of recent...well, "short-comings"...cautiously begin preparations for World Cup 18 Qualifiers. Dicussions on who shall constitute the side are underway. Equipment is being refurbished. Upgrades are under consideration for the national "stadium".

A substantial number of chickens (live and rubber) are purchased...

You mean a final defeat, a la WC8, the last one hosted in Bedistan. But we better lose to somebody else this time! :P

Also, several threads should be up soon, as Eauz specifically asked me last night if he could do that if we won. ;) Later today, most likely.

Qualifying group draws will take place Friday, October 22 to allow time for the Cup of Harmony to be completed, and Matchday 1 will be Saturday, October 23. Further schedule to follow.

The Druidan FA congratulates Bedistan and Eauz on their successful hosting bid. :)

Nothing to do with the fact that it beat the bid those damn NEWI Cefn Druids put in... though it is quite funny watching them fail, and we might come up against them in qualifying now, too! Then we'd show them!

Slight change here - qualifying group draws will be Thursday, October 21. MD1 is still Saturday. This is primarily due to a lack of time on my part on Friday.

Notes that the hosts decision is final. Though, to back up the hosts (even though two of the three nations removed have been resurrected), evidence on the previous page of this thread was used.

The nation of Arjastan is 25 days inactive, my Puppet Oceaice is active and RPing, It was only ceased for a few hours and now I'm out of the cup because of it, Perhaps the two can be switched?
Bedistan
23-10-2004, 17:55
After some consultation with WCC members available at the time, and based on Oceaice's proven RP ability and Arjastan's inactiveness, I think the request is acceptable. Note that Eauz will need to confirm it, of course.

The KPB rankings in the discussion thread will be updated accordingly.
