The Grand Kingdom of Aerion today launched its first spaceship capable of interplanetary travel from the low orbital shipyards attached to its Low Earth Orbit space station. The ASA (Aerion Space Agency), and Babel Aerospace Corporation have been cooperating on this massive undertaking. King Wasterin X was reportedly very rushed to launch Aerion to the stars, and has been proclaimed "King of the Golden Age of Aerion" despite being labeled as a decadent elitist by others. The ship, christened the HMSS Wasterin after the Royal House of Wasterin, and His Majesty received its first crew yesterday after receiving special training from the ASA. It is undetermined who will have direct supervision over the first vestiges of the Royal Aerion Space Navy (RASN), if it will be an arm of the armed forces under the Lord High Marshal or the Aerion Space Agency.

The HMSS Wasterin has been built under top secret conditions. No exact knowledge of the technology, or even the number of crewmembers is known. This has been stated as for "security reasons". What is known is the 400m ship may have some form of ion drive, and fission reactor to power it.Though small by many space navy's standards, the Wasterin is massive for the first true spaceship of Aerion in space capable of interplanetary travel. The exact costs have been kept hidden from the public, but it is approximated at several trillion dollars. The extensive robotic developments in recent years have allowed this massive project undertaking that would not have been very feasible "several years ago".The stockholders of Babel Aerospace have been said to be "living well", and the King himself made a massive profit from the project owning 20% of the company. It is reported research into other ships, most likely smaller, has been completed though all resources were going toward the Wasterin .

OOC:

Interesting design - it might be basic but I could see this design heavily influencing future ships in it's line with some very nice results. Definately something to consider at least.

As far as the size - don't worry about the size. Compared to most space nations 400 meters for a flagship is extremely reasonable. The thing to remember about the 10 and 20 kilometer goliaths is that they are just that - goliaths. One good rock to the head and down they go.

Well I figured it was supposed to be basic as the nation's first ship, and such. Thanks for the advice.
