SNN SPECIAL NEWS REPORT

"Hello, I'm Rebecca Mariona, reporting for SONN. Today, at exactly 5:43 in the afternoon, at the Chaknov Memorial Hospital, in the capitol city of Thresh, the three billionth citizen of Sigma Octavus was born. The baby, a girl by the name of Jamie Mackenzie Larivo, born to Emily Larivo and Sgt. Frank B. Larivo. The baby was born with no complications, and is currently asleep in her mothers arms."

Rebecca moves over to a man in a SOMI uniform standing in the hallway. The man had obviously come here in a hurry, as he was wearing his black BDU and still had his equipment with him. On his shoulder, 'Sgt. Larivo' can be seen in gold lettering.

"Mr. Larivo, how are you feeling about this joyous event? You have the honor of being the father of the three billionth citizen."

Larivo smiles broadly and shrugs. "I don't know about the honor of being a father right now. I've only been a father for a short while after all. Hell, I'm just glad I've got a daughter now."

Rebecca laughs with Larivo for a few seconds before continuing. "And how does your wife feel?"

Larivo grins again. "Well, I'm guessing she's glad that the whole thing is over. I haven't been allowed in to see Jamie yet, but I can just picture what she looks like. She's beautiful like her mother. That's a guarantee."

A doctor comes through the door in the background and taps Larivo on the shoulder. Larivo turns around and looks at the doctor. "Sergeant, you can go in now." Larivo practically runs through the door, leaving Rebecca in the hall with the doctor.

"Doctor, how do you feel having delivered the three billionth citizen?"

The doctor takes off his glasses and cleans them. "Well, to me it's just another baby born. Nothing more."

Rebecca frowns for an instant then turns back to the camera. "This is Rebecca Mariona with SONN, back to Jack and Kelly in the SONN news center."

The screen switches back to the anchor and co-anchor. "Thank you Rebecca, and congratulations to the Larivos. Coming up next, the Sand Diver. Are they really extinct? New evidence may prove that they aren't. We go now to Dmitri Lakarov in the Sigmala desert......"

Hey Sigma, why wasn't the father allowed in the room? In, I believe, most institutions they have the father, or even a family member, or some sort of support for the mother when she is in the active stage of labor. Actually, where I did my clinical at my school, the father was there throughout the steps and the mother gave birth in her own room, being it more private. Plus, I had no prior relationship to the mother, until I observed her vaginal delivery and I am a nursing student. But I suppose then you would not have been able to have your reporter interview him if he was in the room.

It keeps with the culture of the previous civilizations in Sigma Octavus. It's a cultural roots thing.

Oh I forgot about culture variances, but most do not allow the mother to be alone. Well, anyway thanks.
