"Get the captain! Get the captain!" George exclaimed.
A few people rushed towards the corridor and raced towards the captain's room. The girl! The girl!. He ran towards the assistant, Brian and told him.
"You have to get the girl. Bring her. We need to abandon in just a second...and we can't leave without her".
"The ship...sir...the ship...we must abandon now...", Brian stuttered.
"Why? Wha' da' ya' mean?" George asked, sweating.
"Well...all engines...all engines...all engines are out!" Brian shouted.
"Then we must....we must abandon ship!" George exclaimed.
Brian's hand shook so terribly as he clicked the red button. Suddenly, lights flickered. People rushed out of every room and started down the flight of steps.
"I will check every room. You get outta' here. Take only the most important belongings..." George said.
His words trailed off. The girl. She is most important. I must get her first. He ran towards the big room, and the girl was gone. She wasn't in her bathroom...wasn't in her closet...wasn't stuck anywhere.
George frantically checked every room and when nobody was in there, he went into the control room. Few people were left...shutting down the machines.
"Get out...all of you...I'll warn the navy", George commanded.
The men and women left the room. One took a pen and a book, another took a pocketwatch, and the other just left the room. George needed to gather his belongings. A walkie-talkie screamed at him...
"George, get your butt out here...I'm freezing, we're freezing...and we need you to grab coats...The ship is sinking, and you need to make it!" Brian shouted from outside on the boat.
"I need to send the message to the navy. Wait a sec'. If I'm not there in 10 minutes...send a message to the navy that the ship sunk, and that I was still there. It is better that you carry on, and me sink. Is the girl on the boat???" George asked.
But the walkie-talkie went blank. George took it, and clicked a button, shutting down the machines. He grabbed his coat...grabbed some clothes and blankets as well as some food from the cafeteria, and rushed down the stairs. By the time he opened the door, half of it was sinking, and Brian and the boat was gone.
"Oh...my...oh...my...oh..." he said.
The boat was sinking. George made his way to the top of it, and with his suitcase jumped in the water and floated away...floating with the current. He would take a nap...a long one...possibly his last.
20 years later.....
"A man was found...he was my friend...my dear friend...dead at the age of 46...he sacrificed his life for everyone on that ship!" Brian remembered.
The civil war was over. Everyone was back to normal. A new priminister was elected. Everything was well, but not quite. Scuba divers raced to the bottom of the Green Cove Bay trying to find George Torriello...or any clues of him anyway....one of the members on the L.A.R. Undercross, in which sank at approximately 2:45 a.m. on a chilly, snowing Saturday morning.
"I think we've found something. Order them to drop the anchor here!" one scuba diver said.
The ruins of Torriello in my hands...finally, I can find out all about this man, after studying for years.
