I know most people have a thing against me here, but I have an idea and I was just wondering what other people thought. The Olympics are coming to a close now, and I was wondering if it was possible for us to hold our own Nationstates Olympics. Whilst I'm not sure about the details yet, the concept seems pretty good: nations send athletes to compete in certain events and the winners get medals. How the events would be simulated is a problem, but somebody must have some sort of idea...anyone?

Two words: Insanely Difficult.

I think the best way is to get a list of nations interested then form an IOC to organise the games.

That's a good idea. How do I get people interested though? Nobody seems to want to do anything involving me.

Starblaydia's right as well, I don't have a clue how to go about it, which is why I've posted for ideas. Some events would be easy enough, such as football and hockey, but what about track events?

That's because we don't like people who publically single out someone who participates in their RP for a VERY MINOR indescretion, when 80% of those signed up for the RP werent even participating at all.

Funny how people's respect in the forum can drop with their very first post.

And as for this idea, I agree that it would be insanely difficult. You could RP it, which would make it even more difficult. Or you could have a list of entered nations, then take it purely at random who wins each event. Which would probably upset many people.

I've been thinking of something along those lines. Problem is, just having NS Olympic Games won't be exciting enough. I would recommend turning it into a character and international relations RP with the Olympics as just the backdrop. Maybe RP the athletes from each country and the leaders of each country with all kinds of backroom deals and diplomacy going on.

Are the NS Football World Cup and associated tournaments, Ice Hockey Cherry Cup and every other successful Sporting Tournament (going back to Handball and field hockey and the like) not exciting enough on their own for you?

They do include international relations and character development, but thats secondary (usually) to the sport. An Olympic Games wouldn't need to be too far different.

I wouldn't really be possile to rp individual events like gymnastics or track and field. However, it would be cool to do the team events - football, voleyball, basketball, water polo and etc. Races would be hard to do because you would need eveybody posting right after eachother, shot put, weightlifting and javelin would turn into one-upmanship, and score based events (gymnastics, diving) would be hard to rp. You'd have to stick with games with points.

Perhaps it could be organised into something like Yahoo games? If not, I don't know how else it would work. Who wants to lose?

I have a spreadsheet that can generate Athletics results.... or will be able to soon. I know a great deal about Excel and would be happy to create sheets for he different sports if some woiuld give me a list of them and hiw the scoring works.

That's quite well organised. Maybe I should leave it to someone with a bit more experience before trying to undertake something as large as this.

This is actually an interesting idea. Having the games in the background, but focusing on the team as a story, experiencing their concerns, their joy/sorrow at winning/losing, and their interaction with other nations.

The results could be generated, and you would still get the sports being RP'd, but from the view of the people taking part. (And that would be a lot better than trying to RP all the events and making them interesting).

Just thought I would drop in my opinion.

Eh? I don't think I have, and I don't think I would be able to get it, I'm afraid - the moral issues are all too prominent. I think I'm going to put this idea on hold. I'm going to study the other olympics that are going on in the other forum and see how that's done. What's more my region is about to be invaded, so I need to make some friends to make sure I don't get kicked out.

The other Olympics is being run by people less experienced than you, at least you've run tournaments before.
