Static was all over the radios, a voice being picked up now and then. An exploration ship, a United Exploration ship, was sent out to the deepest areas of unknown space. It was a united ship due to the fact scientists from all over the galaxy, from many different nations were aboard. The nations made it easier by making sure no military personal were to go along.
The ship had reached its destination, a solar system in the heart of the unknown space, a total of four plants, and one sun. The ship was reporting in, but due to high magnetic feilds they had some static.
"Sir, this is U.E.V 1....portin...n"
A tech at a station was trying to uplift the sound quality, Joned Tarhok stood behind the tech along with several all personel.
"What are they saying?" He asked the tech.
"I am trying to boost the signal sir," The tech said. "Here we go..."
"Sir, can you hear me?" A voice asked.
"Ah, Ben Kirth, good to hear your voice," Tarhok said.
"Same to hear your's sir," Ben's voice said over the radio. "Well here is our report on this sytem, we made it here, and it turns out electromagnetic feilds are everywhere. We are unable to pick up any traces of eletronic devices or anything..."
Another voice came over the radio, this voice was more angered and tense. "Sir I have to disagree with Ben Kirth," Tarhok remembered this voice as Red McDodgson, who was more of a pain in the butt kind of scientist. "This solar system is still full of discovery, we have yet to actually land on one of the planets, the sheer size of inform..."
"What are you getting at?" Tarhok asked, cutting him off.
"We need more time out here, we have just entered the system, yes we have our difficulties, but we need to explore here more," Red said.
"Ben, I do not see any point to pull you out of there at the moment, it looks like you will be staying longer," Tarhok said.
"Thank you sir!" Red said and got off.
"Sir...tell me why you are doing this," Ben said, obviously frusturated at the decision.
"The point is, the more I put you guys out there, the more I can get rid of Red, now goodbye," Tarhok said, and had the tech hit the communications button, ending the radio transmission.

-U.E.V-1-

"Ah great," Ben said, dropping his head at the station he was standing at, the blue glow of the equipment shining on him, he pulled up the radio to the speakers all over the ship. "Alright everyone, we are staying here, just stay tight for a little bit, I will explain more later."
He hit the button and dropped the radio, closing his eyes, now he was stuck out here with Red.

[OOC: Join in as a scientist from your own nation, it will get exciting once I think enough people have joined.]

This was what Dr. David Buckman enjoyed the most about his job. As an astrogeologist, he was a pioneer among an ever-expanding field of science. Few people appreciated the importance of his job. He was solving mysteries of the universe. He was formulating the answers to centuries-old astronomical riddles. It was amazing just how different from the homeworlds these planets were, and at the same time how alike they were. He had seen planets consisting of nothing more than an endless mass of barren desert. He had seen planets where the tropics were the tundra and everything else was an endless field of ancient ice. He had spent tireless, giddy hours discovering how old asteroids were, deciphering the code in which the history of solar systems was written.

He was born aboard a space ark when warp drives were just emerging from their infancy, and his interest in other worlds was satisfied more and more as technology reached new heights. Now, every starship in his nation could travel to any known star in zero time. He had seen, in the forty-eight years of his life, widely accepted theories disproved and ridiculed. He had witnessed hundreds of uninhabitable planets become like the homeworlds. He had been in ships that sailed on solar wind, and yet he had hardly scratched the surface of the universe. This trip would open hundreds of new doors.

Ben looked around the control room, and saw Buckman, standing there looking out a viewport, he frowned.
"Hey Dr. Buckman," He called over. "Could you please go and find Dr. McDodgson, and bring him up here so I can find out why he wanted to stay here."

David shook himself from a semi-catatonic state. Staring at stars going by tended to hypnotize him.
"Yeah. Yeah, I'll do that." He looked away from the viewport and walked briskly down the corridors and into the voice-controlled lift. A computerized female voice asked him of his destination, and he thought for a few seconds about it and decided that the lounges would probably be the best places for him to start looking in.

Kasera Vailes sat in a chair in the engine room, Red McDodgson was walking back and forth all over, looking at this screen, then that screen, then entering information into his datapad. They were the only ones down there, and Red was busy with his work. Kasera was young, only twenty four, and had long hazel hair, and jet blue eyes.
She was a very pretty woman, but had gone into the scientific life to get away from her past love life. She was assigned to this mission by the president, Allana Carvas herself.
And now here she was, watching this man as he did his job, she shook her head. Then stood up, and made way for the door, and for the Lounge.

"Hey," Red asked. "Where are you going?"
Without letting her answer he looked at his watch. "Hmm, I think its time for a break, I am going to the lounge, feel free to follow."
He walked out the door, and down the hallway to the lounge, he was hungry, like usual, after his little meal he would continue to work on the engines, then on the smaller crafts, and finally maybe he could do some scans on the source of the magnetic feilds in the system.

The lift doors opened, and Dr. Buckman looked around. The computerized voice stated its next destination as being the engine room and Buckman absentmindedly murmured his approval. The computer thanked him and he walked into the lounge. He looked around and decided he might have a small glass of whiskey before continuing his search. He was signaling the bartender when he saw Kasera step through the lift doors.

Kasera ignored Red anyways, he could be an idiot at times, she stepped out of the lift and walked over to the man.

"Hey, Dr. Buckman, right?" Kasera asked

Red grabbed a few chewy bars, and then started back for the engine room, he didn't know where Kasera went, but she wasn't helping much. He got back and did two more scans on the engines, making sure the E.M feilds hadn't done anything to them, they were clear, and he walked out of the room and started for the hangar, now he had to run checks on every single ship in the hangar, this was going to be a long day. It brought up another question, why didn't Kirth assign anyone else to help him? He would have to ask him about that later on, and the chewy bars tasted weird, he would have to ask about where they got them from.

Red walked along in the hangar, he finally managed to get someone to help, a man with a Russian accent, Jorgan Vonkindle. Together the both of them split the hangar up into the sections to work on, Jorgan may not like Red, but they both had the same intelligence, which was very high. They checked on each ship, only two out of the ten they had done had problems.
Red picked up a radio. "Those aren't good odds, out of every five..."
"I know! Out of every five one has a problem, I am not a simpleton," Jorgin yelled into the radio.
"Fine, fine," Red said.
Red McDodgson was forty three years old, with a thinning head of brown hair. He was also slightly overweight, but the loose jacket that he, and all the crew of the ship, wear hides it for the most part.
"Well, lets get back to work..." Red started.
"What, you mean you have been taking a break? I've been working nonstop," Jorgan informed.
"No, of course I have been working," Red said putting away his chewy bar and continuing the job.

OOC: Whatever it was you did (it sounds like you RPed as Dr. Buckman), I'm sure it was no big deal since you deleted your post. You haven't had a nation before, so you haven't really learned the ropes yet.

IC: Dr. Buckman was asking Kasera whether her last name was pronounced "veils" or "veilies" when he heard Red's voice talking to the computer. He got up and made a quick, jumbled-together apology that he himself didn't understand and practically sprinted towards the elevator. Well, at least I know where he went, Buckman thought as the doors opened. When he made it to the engine room, he asked a pair of scientists if they had seen Red McDodgson. One of them started ranting about how nobody on the ship wore their nametags, but the other directed Dr. Buckman towards the hangar and started calming his friend down. After thanking the man, Dr. Buckman ran down three identical corridors and looked at three identical maps of the ship at the end of each corridor before he eventually found himself out of breath and inside the hangar. About this time, he noticed how large and crowded with ships the hangar was. He groaned and started looking for Dr. McDodgson.

Red walked from one ship to another, the one he just checked was fine, now it was time to see if this one was fine.
"Jorgan," He said. "Why does it seem to me that the electromagnetix feild should even exist."
"I know what you mean McDodgson," Jorgan said. "I beleive its a defence weapon to keep ships from finding something out."
"Thats just stupid," Red said.
"Maybe, maybe not, anything is possible," Jorgan said, then turned off his radio.

Dr. Buckman heard a Russian voice through a communicator's static. He gave a breath of relief and walked behind the next ship, where a plump man nibbled on a chewy bar while looking over the craft.
"Dr. McDodgson?"

Red was just sticking his head up in a hole surrounded his face with wires, he had the chewy bar in his mouth, and his hands were holding onto some wires, and the datapad. He heard his name called, he dropped down from the ladder he was on and said Dr. Buckman.
"Yes?" He asked.

Buckman thought about leaning against the ship to rest but figured he would find some way to ruin it if he did so. He knew very little about technology, it never interested him. Learning was the only important thing. Technology was just a tool to help men learn. "Never thought I'd find you, Red. Ben says he wants you in the control room. And he might be a bit testy when we get there, he asked for you to come several minutes ago."

24-08-2004, 22:21
"Ben? Testy? Not good," Red said, he then lifted up his radio. "Jorgan, I gotta go up to the control room, I will leave the rest of these ships in your hands..."
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! YOU GOT ME INTO THIS YOU STAY HERE!!...." Red cut him off, then looked at Buckman. "Well lets go, lead the way."

Ben sat in the control room, waiting. He like everyone else had the jacket on, he was young being only 27. He used to have a little beard on his chin but it was now just five o'clock shadow. His curly head of black hair was the same as everm and he still had the thick rimmed black glasses. He sat down in a seat, and looked at his watch, he had set Dr. Buckman off half an hour ago.

Dr. Buckman looked at his watch. Judas Priest, I was sent here half an hour ago! Red followed closely behind, and Buckman realized just how funny they must have looked. Buckman was wiry, with only a bit of muscle and skin tissue covering his bones. Meanwhile, the man behind him was quite plump, folds of his mass moving up and down with his feet. Buckman contained his oversized grin and held in a wheezy laugh as he jogged to the lift. He turned around just as Red made it through the doors. "We need to get to the control room now!" Buckman exclaimed into the computer. The mechanical voice replied back: "I'm sorry, my responses are limited. Please clarify your commands." Damn, damn, damn, damn, DAMN I hate all this technology... he thought as he screamed angrily: "Control room, please!" He mumbled a four-letter word under his breath and collected himself, then looked over at an obviously confused Red. He grinned embarassingly as his face burned and said: "Don't you just hate these things?"

"No actually I don't they are quite useful," Red said. "Why does Ben want to see us..."
"Control Room," The voice said.
The door opened up, and Ben looked over at them, and kinda of jumped out of his seat spreading his arms.
"Buckman, Red, what took you so long?" He asked in frustration as he walked over to them. "Its not like it takes a marathon runner to go about this ship."
"He..uh, I was...he it was..." Red started pointing at Buckman.
"Doesn't matter, now tell me," Ben Kirth asked, leaning against the elevator doorframe. "Why, is it, you want to stay here longer?"
"Oh come on, you heard all the stories from the other scientists when they went on missions like this all the technolog..." Red started.
"All the casulties they took," Ben said. "Red, I know how you think, you are brilliant, but a coward."
Red puffed up his chest, and looked sternly at Ben. "I beg your..."
Ben sighed and pulled out a gun, and pointed it at Red's face, who jumped back and let out a little scream.
Ben put the guin back away. "My point exactly."
"You..took, that was...you suprised me," Red stuttered.
"Buckman, please step off the elevator," Ben said.
He looked at Buckman, and basically pulled him off. "Now Red, I am going to hit this button, and it is going to go to the bottom floor, when it comes back up, tell me, why we are still here."
Red started to say something but Ben hit the button and the doors closed, the elevator soon started going down.

Kazim bowed once again and repeated the same sentence had had been saying the last hour. It was his weekly long prayer, and this was the 500th time he said that sentence. "Allahu Akbar". With that finished he got up on his feet and walked to the sink in his cabin. Kazim washed his face three times and then took a towel and dried it of.
He was some 56 earth years, but still had a fine body and no sign of aging since his 40th birthday. Kazim looked like a typical Arabic man, he smiled to himselfe. Allah smiled on him this day as to.
He walked out of the cabbin and looked around, it was amazing this... space travell. It never stoped to suprice him that it actually worked, it didnt matter if he had practicly grown up on space ships. They still worked!
Sciense, truly amazing.. amazing indeed.
Kazim made his way to the control room, ha had an habbit of forgetting his com-link.. though, it didnt bother him. Now he was in the hunt for some company.

Kazim himselfe was rather famous, not for his contributions to science but for his ability to support new and young bright scientists with funding and resources. Somehow, he always seemed to get just what the scientist needed for his projects, as with this project. Indeed, it would be a facinating one. He figured that if he wasnt smart enough to do all the research, he would support those who did, the faqt that he was a very religious man didnt seem to bother people. Kazim was a nice man who just did what he could do for science.

The elevator reached the control room again the door opened, and Red was looking out it, he was talking out loud to himself, Ben frowned.
"Red, have you thought up of a reason?" He asked.
"What? Oh...I..." Red started saying.
Ben hit the button again and the elevator went back down.
