What is your country's national sport?

Kochbald
24-08-2004, 18:36
It can be real or invented by you, but if you invented it, include a description.
Ours is Kochball.
You use a cotton or foam football-shaped ball. At the start of the game, the ref throws it up, and you have to hit it to one of your 6 teammates, and somehow, hit t into the endzone. 2 teams of seven players. After ball crosses midfield, all players must be across within 5 seconds, or it is an un-contested throw-up in favor of the other team (as it is if you catch it or hit it out of bounds) 3 of those not getting on sides violations, and you're out. Teams may have between 3 and 7 subs. Field is 30 feet endzone to endzone and 8 feet side to side. Two 30 minut e halfs.Clock stops when ball is on ground, until throw up at point of impact (like the throw-up at the beginning of each game) When a team scores a point by hitting it in the other team's endzone, there is a throw-up at midfield.

Our nation prides itself in having some of the most skilled unarmed fighters in history, and their skills are displayed in knockdown, dragout matches. Thin, coarse bandages run along their knuckles, and they are clothed by flimsy, rough fabric. We see a variety of different fighting disciplines, but no matter who wins or loses, it's quite obvious that they are all extraodinary fighters. Occasionally, there's scandal involved, but most of our fighters do what they do for the glory of victory. Bones are frequently broken and there is no shortage of injury, but there are very few deaths. Most fighters can only last about a year before they can never fight- or do much of anything else- again. The longest a fighter has stayed is five years. Matches are held both outdoors and in arenas. We have team brawls, one-on-one matches, and tag teams, but beyond that, there's really very little variety with the exception of the fighters and their styles. Almost any type of move, no matter how dirty, is allowed, including punches to the groin.
Monumenta
24-08-2004, 20:33
Punches to the groin? You are an evil, evil person :p ! Anyways, Monumenta engages in very few conventional sports, but the virtual reality gladiatorial games make millions of fans happy every year. Basically, they consist of a highly realistic virtual environment in which players hunt each other down with real weapons and technology. Sportscasters mix and match virtual bodies and equipment in order to give the competition variety, but in the end it's all about skill. Though we have no official national sport, these virtual tournaments are unquestionably the most popular competitions held in our nation. We also use these programs to train soldiers and the like, so they're very realistic. We've had faceoffs in thousands of different environments, from suburban cat-and-mouse sniping games to knife fights in glass cases filling with water. No one actually gets hurt, but it does get gory every now and then.

Unfortunately, a great deal of virtual reality equipment is bought by the very rich in order to fulfill certain unwholesome desires.

The undead population of the Republic of Leperflesh enjoy the National Sport, Staring Contests.

Our current championship has been contested for the last 12 years, as Blaghragh the Unwavering has glared unblinkingly into the steely gaze of Urghbagh Eyebiter. The event has been televised nationally on a special, dedicated channel which shows the match continuously, with expert commentary and celebrity guests from time to time.

I visited that one once, and it was very... unplesant. we also have problems once in a wile with hackers and people who wont come out. hackers are imideatly out into one of our convesonal prosopns for life, and the people who won't come out are forced out and stripped of "LYOKO Privlages" Ofcorse, they are then no longer legal citizans as our lyoko databases are also our way of tracking people.....
Larogera
24-08-2004, 22:01
Larogera's national sport is called dirtball [baseball with a mixture of different rules]. If the pitcher hits the batter, he gives his team an out. It takes 4 strikes to make an out, and 6 balls to make a walk. If the catcher doesn't catch the ball, the opposing team is to advance a base. As baseball uses red-dirt, dirtball uses 'sand-dirt' uses at beaches to make it a more swift running process. The teams are divided by districts. They are 45 districts and 3 sub-districts making 48 teams. The most popular are the Belkin Dankees, but the uprising team is the Shattantanium Feather-Bellied Turtles. In our game, there is no such thing as a Wild Card, and 1st place. The second place team goes to the World Series, rather than the first.

The second most popular is called raquet. Each player's goal is to get all of their raquet-balls stuck into the net. It takes a lot of concentration. They are over 3,456 competiting people, and they go to the Sub-Division and Shattantanium Olympics every year to see who is the real champion.

The National sport of ANA is Skimmer racing, where small one man high speed subs travel a ralley like course for several laps, the winner being the first one over the finish line.

Skimmer racing comes in three types.

The first type is Pro Skim Racing, where large companies and Shire Lords enter into a straight race around the track. This type is the one most publicised by the media, however it is second in popularity stakes, the public seeing it as being to commercialised.

The second type is Ridge Racing, as above, the contestants enter into a race around the course, but this time however slightly 'dirty' tricks are allowed, such as ink clouds, short out bombs etc.. nothing fatal or really dangerous, just fun. This type is the favourite of the public, and several pirate channels are devoted to showing it.

The third type is Death Racing. As the name implies, the skimmers entering the race usually do so fully armed, and combat is alowed on the course. Only for the hard of heart, this level of the sport is banned by the government, and can only be found in the outback of the rim shires.

For a list of some of the racing skimmers, check out the top of this page!

Our country plays many games and different people like different games. One way to pass time is trebucheing. Where a wall is built out of strong but recyclable materials of varying sorts. Players are given catapults set at random angles and have to work out the angles of elevation and power needed to demolish the wall. Of course wind speed is also a factor that needs to be taken into consideration. Points are scored through accuracy.Walls are built by people with too much time on their hands and the winners usually get contracts as ordinance firers in our army.

The national sport is championship surfing as our coast has some of the best waves in the world. Events draw massive crowds and are great ways to generate revenue with the profits going the government to help improve day-to-day life.

With such a sporty population this makes our country's population quite fit meaning we have low obesity levels and high tourist immigrants who come to see the local teams they support.
Tadjikistan
26-08-2004, 21:39
football(soccer), The Tadjik Tigers play in the NS World Cups.

Offcourse we have various other sports but none is as big as football. The only sport that comes close is Kozbashy: Two teams of horse-riders try to get a dead goat and throw it in the opponents goal. Quite violent and accidents happen constantly but everyone loves it.

Kaze Progressa
30-08-2004, 08:32
Kaze Progressa are one of the most sports-crazy nations in the world. The national sport is soccer, which is known as football just as in other nations where it is the national sport (American football, popular but less so than soccer, is known as gridiron). Soccer crowds have been consistently enormous since a massive stadium construction programme prior to World Cup 12, which the nation co-hosted; in fact, top-flight club Chedar-Edma have recently struggled on account of having 'only' a 60,000-seater stadium, while the Progressair Stadium, home to the nation's top club Kaza X-Teem and the national team, consistently fills to its near-117,000 capacity. Even teams in the third-highest league in the country often attract 40,000-strong crowds.

Field hockey was once a highly popular sport but the demise of the World Cup in that sport (which Kaze Progressa hosted twice) has seen its popularity decline, though the enormity of the country means that the insular community remains significant in size. Cricket, basketball and ice hockey are also popular at different times of the year, while athletics is less popular as a competitive sport but draws significant crowds (the Progressair Stadium is usually close to capacity for the annual National Athletics Championships). Many track and field athletes are drawn towards other sports, especially football, owing to the greater opportunities for national and international prestige; most famously, Raq Failez started as a 200m runner but later was snapped up by Chedar-Edma and became one of the most popular footballers in the country.

Indigenous sports have come and gone (and are created by creative sportspeople at such a rate there is an annual Festival of New Sports that draws a sell-out 60,000 crowd to the versatile sliding-roof Daurama Dome) but few have lasted. One popular one that has is Rush Hybrid, a seven-a-side game on a 60x30m pitch that is a hybrid (hence the name) of American football and rugby. The game works similarly to American football, with four downs to advance 15m; however, play continues smoothly through the four downs, with a tackle ending a down. (This is similar to rugby in that respect; indeed, in Rugby League each attack is formed of five downs without regard for distance gained). Like in American football (and unlike rugby), forward passes are allowed, and scoring is as per American football; the main peculiarity is that instead of kickoffs, teams always start attacking from their own 15m line. Rush Hybrid's smaller field was so four games could be played at once in the Festival of New Sports; now, Rush Hybrid stadia are being built around the country including a 40,000-seater national stadium in Kaza.

Mostly football (soccer) and rugby. We tend to like the competitive, team-based games that don't require a whole lot of equipment. However, unarmed fighting is also very popular. The person who is not immobilized is declared winner, but points are awarded based on the ability of the winner to subdue their opponent without physically harming them. The martial arts styles that have evolved from this borrow heavily from the aikido and jujitsu defensive styles, but most are familiar with the more aggressive arts. Less common is armed fighting, though this usually uses practice weaponry that is dulled or padded to prevent serious injury.

Baseball's probably our favorite, but football (real, not American) and hockey have special places too.
Kensium
30-08-2004, 20:39
The national sport of Kensium is Ultimate Ice Softball. (this is a game ive actually played)
The game is played on a hockey rink (frozen lakes are in short supply in Kensium), and is like a combination of hockey, soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, and softball. The game is played with a softball sized ball, and teams are divided into two. Goals are set (slightly enlarged hockey nets) at opposite ends of the rink. Players wear sneakers on their feet, since ice-skates would risk injury by cutting players.
Each team throws the ball to their teammates in order to try to score on the other goal. After catching the ball, each team member is allowed three steps and a slide; then they must pass the ball. If the a team drops the ball, it is free-for-all; whoever gets it first off the ground had possesion. Same goes for missed passes. The game is played in 4 10-minute quarters. Each goal counts as one, and the highest score at the end of 40 minutes wins. :D
Phalanix
30-08-2004, 20:46
