Ministry of Transportation Press Release; July 27th, 20??
Edolian Ministry of Information
---“Negotiations between transportation ministries in Edölia, the Island States and Hattia concluded today on the issue of a transnational hyper rail line connecting the Union of Socialist Republics. Representatives from Lietuveska were also present in some of the later talks, with the fourth nation agreeing to allow the USR to construct rail lines through their territory in exchange for hooking the network up to Lietuv cities. The rail line will start in Edolian Tetelburg, snaking down into Riannen and then Lietuveska, where it will connect with Hvittsted, Laurelus and Itaros. From Hvittsted, it will continue South into Akiros and then Terra Malus, finally penetrating into Hattia, where it will connect with Leningrad, Haton and then Severnaya, where it will turn West into the Island States finally ending up in Freeport. Talks have not yet been made with other Haven nations, but it is expected that they will agree to allow the lines run through their nations, and may also wish to include their cities in the rail lines.

The rail lines built have been used in Edölia for some time now, but are only now being used to connect the Scarlet Empire with its neighbors. Maglev rails are built in tunnels kept at near-vacuum, allowing a train to move forward with almost no resistance, propelling it at speeds similar to that of a jet plane. These lines offer a fast, comfortable and cheap alternative to flying. One major advantage is that once they are built, they are run at very little cost.”---

Ministry of the Economy Press Release; July 29th, 20??
Edolian Ministry of Information
---“An agreement has been hammered out in the Union of Socialist Republics Parliament that will change the currencies of the three member states to a single united monetary unit. The Socialist Union Monetary Unit (SUMU) as it is called was ratified this morning by the Edolian Parliament and will begin being phased into circulation over the next year. Edolian economists speculate that the change of currency will initially bring a shock to the Edolian economy, damaging it slightly. However, they speculate, the damage will repair itself shortly and overall growth will ultimately be increased

This has been another sign of the continuing and increasing closeness between Hattia, the Island States and Edölia and has been nearly universally welcomed, hailed as ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity.

There are some who prefer to see Edölia keep its old currency however. Mark von Plüx of the Edölia First Society, a nationalist organization had this to say at an anti-USR rally today in Blätterschplitt:

‘We’ve given up our sovereignty, our flag and our national identity to the USR. Now they want us to give up the populi pecunia? What’s next? The gerbil?’

The assembled crowd then burned colored strips of paper representing the SUMU. Our on-the-scene correspondent assured us, however, that no actual currency was damaged.”---

Session of Congress Brief: July 27, 20??

Bill: Adoption of SUMU and international Hyperrail line

Majority Opinion: "While this move may hurt our economy initially, the payouts will far outway the costs. We will enter into a new age of prosperity with our comrades in Edolia and The Island States"

-Provincial Congressman Vladimir Anronov Bakunin (LibCom)

Minority Opinion: "Hattia traditionally has kept to itself, I see no need why this should change. Increasing international relations leads to increased attention towards our nation, and therefore some tinpot dictatorship may see the need to attack us."

Session of Congress Brief: July 27, 20??

Bill: Adoption of SUMU and international Hyperrail line

Majority Opinion: "The Island States cannot remain in the dark forever, and we need to establish stronger ties with our USR allies. While our economy may hurt from this, the employment of workers and future strengthening of the SUMU may benefit us in the long run."

- Chairman of the Communist Party Jake Pullman (ISCP)

Minority Opinion: "This move only further brings our country into alignment with the evil communists and the dark influences of regionalization! We must stop this bill from passing, and stop us from losing our national identity and values to those who inhabit Haven!"

"We thank our Terra Mali allies and wish to enquire whether or not they would be interested in hooking any of their cities up to the rail line."

After a thorough study of your proposal, it is the opinion of our engineers and urban planners that the Transnational Hyper Rail Line is incompatible with our current transport infrastructure. It would be too expensive to directly connect our cities to the THRL. But the benefits of safe, high-speed travel cannot be ignored so we have come up with a compromise. We will build transfer nodes along the THRL which would then connect to our existing rail and transport lines.
