A Footnote in History

ADK Mars

OOC: I was busy the day Allanea got his ass kicked, obliterated, and pwned. But you see, a group of people on Mars, the Khanate of Mars and/or Martian Khanate(formally the Clans) are citizens of Zero-One. They also have a limited number of combat spacedyships... So this is sort of a quick retelling of their involvement. Yay.

IC:

It was the first time in a long time that any frigate had launched from the former territory of the Martian Confederacy. It had been several long years before any nation that had made up the Confederacy had been granted any form of freedom. But recently, the Clans(now know as the Khanate of Mars), had become citizens of Zero-One, and were free from being opressed by the Duchy of Kajal Mars.

So, by order of Kitab Il-Abar, the clansmen had prepared four frigates for launch. These four frigates had been rechristened for the occasion and their names were: The Mars, The Khanate, the R-Dripping Talons, and the BigScarehMechThingie. The crews were already inside the vessels and beginning the boost sequence when Kitab Il-Abar stepped up to the podium placed in front of the R-Dripping Talons.

"My fellow Clansmen, members of the Khanate of Mars, citizens of the Queendom of Zero-One! Today is a great day for all of us, today signals are returning to the stars that we left over five years ago when our great Confederacy was subdued. Now with the aid of the mechanoids from the Queendom of Zero-One, we will be once again able to go forth and explore the universe for ourselves and make ourselves into a great nation! These four ships and their forty crew members shall revitalize our dreams. Like the mythical Phoenix we will rise once more to the stars."

The frigates rose, their engines once again active and their anti0grav drives in full working condition. Their thrusters fired, sending them high into the atmosphere until they were in low Earth orbit. Then the vessels gravity generators came on and their engines accelerated them foreward.

Little known to the Martian Khanate was the fact that a battle raged over the North Pole. Soon though, they saw evidence of it on their sensors and comm frequnecies and engaged their FTL drives. They would come to the aid of their new mother nation, Zero-One.

As they arrived they sent messages to the QACF vessels identifying themselves and engaging the Allanean fleet. Their pulse lasers and plasma cannons fired at the Allanean capital class vessels. They dodged enemy fire and debris and supported the Zero-One vessels, although they knew that the QACF needed little help.

Soon though, the battle was over, and three of the frigates had taken heavy damage and fourteen crew members had been killed. But they had died reviving the dreams of a people and ridding their planet of a meanace.

This action of the Khanate would go unnoticed by most, and unrecorded by most history books. But one thing was for certain, it was a footnote in history, and would not be lost to time...
Zero-One

...and even if not a massive deployment of hundreds of ships and thousands of soldiers, it is still appreciated. The Sirenum human population--the Khanate--was something of a rallying ground for the hopeful in the Queendom who wanted evidence that Zero-One could be more than just the escape it initially was, more than just a mechanoid-only club free from the oppression of the organic.

After all, mechanoids hardly hold a monopoly on being oppressed, and the Khanate's willing acceptance of the Queendom's helping hand was something of a symbol. While some in the Queendom and many elsewhere snickered about the mechanoid's "pet organics," their willing acts of sacrifice on behalf of the Queendom showed the doubters and verified the thoughts of the believers that they did not see Zero-One as an occupier--at least, not as much as previous--but as an adoptive nation.

Some wondered why S.H.O.D.A.N. decided to adopt the Khanate when international recommendation was universally supportive of deportation or extinction... those who knew her best, rare as they were, still never got a straight answer, but two theories remained prevalent. Firstly, the moral high ground--proof that mechanoids can give others the choice to follow and are willing to lead as equals, something many organic societies still have not achieved. Secondly... perhaps a level of atonement, for she certainly had much to atone for.

And it was a time to bond. Five fleet-minds were lost in the fighting, so the mechanoids perhaps understood the feelings of the Khanate towards their lost soldiers. They offered to attend and assist with the inevitable services, came when their offers were accepted and made themselves scarce when denied. They assisted in the repair of frigates--as was only appropriate for the defense of the Queendom--and went the extra step of compensating the families of the dead for their loss.

They tried. Perhaps did not always succeed, but they did always obviously try.

It is said that those who fight together come closer. The mechanoids certainly felt so, and those who were more open in their bigotry were humbled. Objectively, it was a good thing, and the Queendom was proud of its new citizens. It was... validation of a risky choice.
