The bourbon helped to cut the fog from the big man's mind, and he considered the invitation before him. While he had never heard of Daily or this "Royal Family", Steele realized that this was an event not to be missed. Royalty drew politics, and politics drew targets: targets drew shooters.
Tapping quickly into his mainframe, Steele quickly cross-referenced the location of Daily with the last known locations of some of the nastiest criminals in known space. The numbers were enough to convince him that his particular skills, as well as those of his company, may come in handy during the crowning of the Prince.
He hoped that this would be a civilized and joyous affair, one where he could just sit back and drink on someone elses tab, while enjoying the taste of a fine cigar...or a finer lady. Darius needed some down-time, especially considering the way his last mission had gone fubar on him. He didn't blame his team for that...they were never trained to fight an enemy who not only wielded a sword that could cut through spaceship hulls, but could also clone himself into two seperate beings instantly. The worst part was that the new being was a...space bunny. Darius REALLY hoped this would be a peaceful evening.
He would be there to ensure it was.

End of message.
The Crowning Ceramony will Begin momentarily just waiting for more guests to arive.
The sleek shuttle kicked up a wall of dust as it settled, and it's landing bay door was opening before it had finished touching down. Through the dust came Darius Steele, striding quickly towards the ornate wooden doors of the Imperial Ball Room. Two large guards stood there at attention, eyeing Steele as he approached them. As big as the guards were, Darius was even bigger still.
After verifying that he was indeed invited to the Royal Event, the guards opened the doors and let Darius enter the large hall. He walked along the plush carpet, stopping only to palm a drink from a passing servant. He quickly scanned the great room, noting where the security junctions were, and the best lines-of-fire. He saw at least 3 places an assasin could safely hide and still get a clear shot at the Royal Family.
After this party was over, Darius decided that offering a long-term security contract to the new Prince could be beneficial to both parties: Darius would make money, and the Prince would stay alive.
Steele spoke quietly as he lifted his glass as if to drink: "How do you like the music so far, Rafe?" Immediately, Darius heard the reply from the small speaker surgically implanted in his ear. "Boss, I think you do this to me on purpose...our connection is great though, and I have visuals and audio at 97%. Power conduit is linked to your exo-unit, and we can give you full juice at anytime..."
Steele took a sip of his drink before replying. "Let's hope it won't be needed."
The Red Squad Leader of his Holiness's eleate force steped out of the darkness and headed over to the new arival to the ceremonies and said "Mr Steele I presume Welcome to the Imperial Ball Room" he added "His Holiness was expecting you"
The scanner in the Room started to go off and 15 Red Squad Troops aimed there Phase Lances at Mr. Steele. The squad leader Said in a camanding voice "STAND DOWN MEN HE IS HERE FOR EXTRA SECURITY".
Just then the anouncer broke the silence and introduced the newest arival "Her Hyness Princess Mella of the Royal Family of Dailey Sister of His Holiness has just arived. She is wearing The Antensen Royal Red Albarian Dress.
The Red Squad holstered there phace lances and returned to there posts.
The test worked out much as Steele thought it would: he had worn some of his personal weaponry just under his coat, and though the fabric was created to baffle most security sensors, more sophisticated scanning equipment could detect it. When the sergeant-at-arms greeted him, Steele stepped forward and was immediately rewarded with a warning in his ear...he was being deep-scanned. A moment later, a cadre of heavily-armed Palace guards surrounded him, deadly Phase lances pointing in his direction, humming with restrained power. "Not bad," thought Steele,"but not good enough."
After complimenting the sergeant on his well-trained troops, Darius Steele continued into the Great Hall, replacing his empty glass with two full ones. He drank one quickly, and closed his eyes briefly, savoring the burn of the synthehol. Reaching into his jacket, he withdrew a slim cigar case and lit one of his trademark cheroots. The thin cigar's were made personally for him by an old master on Cubanista IV, and shipped to him on a regular basis. He drew deep, and let the bitter smoke trickle from his nose.
There was a lot of money and power in this room...the smell of it was thick and cloying. Beautiful people abounded, and Darius let his eyes linger on a group of laughing debutantes, and saw some appreciative and interested looks returned his way. Finishing his drink, he looked around for a refill. As he was about to flag down a servant, Darius stopped suddenly. Standing across the room was the a presence that commanded his complete attention. Clad in a flowing robe of red, the young woman had a regal bearing about her and Darius knew she was was more than just a guest here tonight: Rafe confirmed it a moment later:
"Boss, you can stop staring now...we've ID'd her as Princess Mella Daily, uploading pertinent data to you now. Can you scan the rest of the crowd for us? Boss?"
Darius did not reply, nor scan the crowd as Rafe had asked...instead, he strode rapidly to where the Princess was chatting happily with a group of young women, friends and handmaidens both. Darius came to a stop a few feet from her, and when she turned to see what the other girls were staring at, he bowed slightly to her, then straightened and smiled at her.
"It is an honor to meet you, your Highness. My name is Darius Steele, and I thank-you and your family for inviting me to share this special day with you."
Some of the girls were smiling openly now, and a few looked at him with interest and admiration. Darius smiled at them all.
"I know you must be very busy now, your Highness, but I'm hoping that after the coronation of your brother, perhaps you would do me the honor, and pleasure, of sharing a waltz with me?"
His Holiness watched as His sister cached the eye of the security expert. He wached with great interest considering the last person to ask her to dance ended up with a black eye and a busted nose. he hoped she would not ruin His Son's celebration.
To the Atonashment of His Holiness His Sister did the exact oposite of what he was afriad of. She said to the gentelman "Yes i'll give you that honor".
She then smiled and looked at The King saying "oh there you are Brother were is that litle nefue of mine?". The king Replied "He's got butterflies in his stomack he is in back working up the curage to come out on stage" Mella Replied "hahaha Just like you were at your ceremony dear brother" she then added "Like father Like Son" and most of the ladies around her let out a laugh.
The anouncer broke in Saying Prosinting The Camander in Cheef Of the Danland Regional Ground Forces General Makivily of the TBA Defence Alliance.
General Makivily came into the room wearing the uniform of a high up official Of the Great Danland Army. Not only being one of the founders of the TBA but also being a great ally in the alliance and a true friend of His Holiness Jonathan Antensen I King and Ruler of Dailey. He was greeted by the king saying welcome my friend enjoy a dance with the ladies hence I see ones again you have come without a date.

After leaving the Princess with a bow, a smile and an assurance that he would be waiting for the dance, Steele made his way over to a quiet oasis in the middle of the hall. Activating his communicator, Steele dialed into the Victory-class ship that was currently monitoring the planet while hidden behind its moon.
"Rafe, gimme a sit-rep: are we clean?"
"Yes sir," came the voice in his ear, Rafe sitting hundreds of miles above him. "No unauthorized activity, just the regular traffic. All ships coming in are expected, and have clearance. We are scanning them, just in case."
"Good work...maintain Beta-level security protocols, and let me talk to Tanis."
Tanis Raydan was his navigator, long-time friend and part-time lover. Steele had saved the young Elfling from certain death at the hands of a slaver, and she had stayed loyally by his side for many years.
"How can I help you, Romeo? Need help figuring out how to unsnap the Royal Corset?" Steele could hear Tanis smiling.
"Keep your claws retracted, Navigator...I just want to make sure you have the ship ready to intercept at a moments notice...I don't want any unauthorized visitors to slip by."
"No worries, Big Guy, we have it covered. You just go hobnob with the high-society folks, and let us grunts do the work."
Steele paused. "Hey, don't forget. I'm working too..."
"Yup, working on your fourth drink. Call us if you need us!" Tanis disconnected, letting her little dig at Steele be the last word...for now. The big security man looked around for another drink, waiting patiently for the Coronation to begin.
the King's adviser Wispered in his ear "Me lord What will happen if General Insane gets into power in the RB elections?" The King Replied "Then we do everything in our power to find out if he got into power legaly or not if he did we moniter his actions and if he did not we help J.L. with all the might of the eleate". The Adviser replied "Yes me lord as always you are right." he then asked another question "Sir this Mr Steele guy is he trustworthy?" The king Replied "he wont do anything to harm us he is security they have a code of honor just like we do" he then added "I think...". the Adviser said "I Hope so to Sir". he then added "I've noticed that Mr. Steele wispers to himself alot do you think he may be crazy sir?" the King replied "You imbasil he is talking to his security ship" he then added "dont you ever think before you speak Mike".
General Makivily came over to the king and said "sir As far as i can see it Mr. Steele and the Royal Phase Lancers have everything under contrall with security so I'll just go see if your sister would like to dance" just as General Makivili was walking away the king shouted "Dang it man Remember last time you asked My dear sister to dance" he then added "you Fool your going to end up with your nose busted again".
The anouncer Declared in a loud voice " Atention Atention all the king has an anouncment to make and then the ceromonies will begine"
The king then starts to speak "Ladies and Gentelmen, Honored Guests and Allies Welcome to my Son's Crowning Ceremony In this Ceremony My Son Will be named Crown Prince of Dailey and future Ruller of The Empire. As you all know the TBA alliance will soon loose there founder to be replaced by a new leader My son. I may be Old but I wont be Leaving this life just yet I'm only geting my afairse in order." he continued "And now without furter adue I introduce Arch Bishop Peter Millers who will be crowning My dear Son. I may add that Peters Father Arch Bishop Danial Millers is the one My father chose to Crown me some 56 years ago and it is my Honor to have his son crown my son".
Arch Bishop Peter Millers started to speak "It is my honor and joy to be able to stand in front of you all today to begine the Crowning ceremony of Crown Prince Jonathan Antensen II Son of King Jonathan Antensen I and the future king of Dailey. As it was in the past so be it here if anyone wishs to chalenge the Royal family's Blood right let them speak now!" The Bishop Stops speaking to give the people a chance to respond.
after waiting for a few minutes the Bishop started to talk again "Bring in the honor Guard and the crests of the Royal house" with that camand 40 Honor Guards and 60 Flag Carriors entered the room and cleared a path down the midle of the room. ones all the honor guard and Flag carriors were in posision the Bishop continued to speak. He said "Me Lord and Me Ladies and honoured Guests It is with great pride that I introduce prince Jonathan II of the Royal house of Antensen Ruleing Blood line of Dailey for the past 30 generations". With that statement The Royal Trumpeters sounded and The Prince Started to walk down the Honor Guard Coridor with 4 Phase lancers escorting him 2 in front of him and 2 behind him. He saluted His people and the guests that have come to the ceremonies and continues to walk to the ceremony stage.
When the Prince gets to the stage the 4 phase lancers break away from him and form up around the stage. The bishop Starts to say to the prince "Prince Jonathan Son of his holiness Your father Jonathan Antensen I do you Swear on your honor and the honor of your father that you have followed the code of the Knights to the best of your ability?" The Prince Replied "Yes Me lord I have Brout Honor to my Family and have not Dishonored my Father in any way" The Bishop continued "Do you swear Loyalty to the Lord on High and to The People of Dailey Before your life?" the prince replied Yes Me lord I swear Loyalty to the Lord on high and to the People of Dailey." The bishop then continued "Who in here has objectioons to this lads blood right?" The croud went silent and the Bishop Continued "As of what the people beleave and know is truthfull By the power Of the Lord I hearby Crown You Prince Jonathan Antensen II Crowned Prince of Dailey and Future Ruler og the Empire" he then added "As It Was In The Past Let It Be Here. In God We live and in God We Rule" The people in the room let out a great Chear of joy and the honor gurad salutes there future King.
The ceremony went off without a flaw, filled with the pomp and circumstance expected of an event such as this. Steele stifled a yawn, watching the crowd more than the ceremony. Everyone seemed enraptured by the moment, so Darius slipped away from the crowd. When he was alone, he activated his communicator.
"Rafe, any change?" asked Steele, lighting a cigar.
"No sir...we were watching for power spikes or comm signals, and nothing came up. Looks like you can actually have a good time for once, Chief...all the bad guys are busy, I guess..." replied the young security officer.
"Lets hope it stays that way." grumbled Steele.
As the ceremony ended, Darius looked for the lovely Princess Mella. She was surrounded by her attendants, and visiting dignitaries. She was radiant, and her natural command of people made her a joy to behold. Steele waited for a break in the crowd, but the Princess seemed to be very popular at this moment. He decided to make another round of the Ballroom, double-checking the security details.
General Makivili Walks up to the Princess and asks her "Me Lady Will You give Me the honor Of having the First Dance of the night" With that Statement The Princess Said in a Camanding voice "Sir I would Not Dance with you If You were the Last Man Alive Be Gone you fool Before I Bash Your face in" Makivili Replied "But Me lady...."He was stoped in mid sentence my the princess's Fist plowing into his nose and yet again She had broken His nose. The King Broke out in a Laugh Saying "I told you. You Dang fool when will you learn that she has hated you ever sence We were Kids". Makivili Replied "Ya Ya I know But You got to admit she is the Bell of the Ball". The king laughed again "HaHa thats my sister you nut". He then added "And Besides She alredy Has her Eyes set on that Mr. Steele".
Just then the Camander of the Royal Guard Came running over to the King Saying "Sir The Dragon Lord Space Fighter Alcadia is here Camander Praxton is with the Pilot Asking for clearance to Land in the Capital" The King Replied "Let him Land" The Royal Guard Camander let out a order on his Radio to the Air Camand Center "let Mr. Praxton land and send him to the Imperial Ball Room" The Air Camand Radio man Replied "Yes sir"
25 Minutes later Camander Praxton Enters the Imperial Ball Room and heads to the King, Bows and Says "Me Lord I have Grave news About our lands in Sector G of the Concured Country of Socialistic Chockroachs" The king Replied "Well Then Spit it out Man What is it?" The Camander Replied "As You know Sir We are Having Truble With the Power Distrubration system and This Evening at 4:52PM We had an Explotion In one of the Power Distrubration Centers. The power Grid Went off line 10 minutes later We are having Masive Power Falures all over the sector". The king Replied "Ok Be gone We will Deal with this Tomorow Right now We will Celebrate My sons Crowning" The Camander Replied "But Sir All AA and MG42 Turents are offline" The King Said "Our Nabours in that region Are peaceful They will Help Defend the Region untill We Can Fix the power problem" He then Added "That is all Be gane"
Steele had not laughed out loud in over a decade.
Now he found himself almost buckled over, holding his ribs and wiping a tear from his eye...and the scotch that flew from his nose when he saw the lovely, dainty and very feminine Princess Mella deliver a haymaker that would do a heavy-weight champ proud. The man she levelled - a military boy of some sort - crumpled to one knee, holding his nose, blood seeping from beneath his fingers. Darius watched Mella turn and walk away, surprisingly retaining her regal air. He had just taken a step to intercept her when his ear-comm crackled.
"Chief, sorry to interupt yer evening, but we just picked-up a bogey entering Daily airspace at high velocity...we're targetting now...waitaminit, it's one of their own ships! Scan indicates a large fighter-class vessel, level 3 threat, weapons and shield systems are powered down." Rafe paused, and Steele could hear other voices in the background. "Sir, they've gotten clearance to land in the capitol: instructions?"
Steele took a puff of his cigar and let the smoke drift out slowly. Turning his back to face the wall, he spoke quietly:
"Passive scan only, boyo...lets not let them know we're probing them. Get Tanis to find out why these jokers are in such a hurry to interupt the Coronation." Steele looked around and saw the Princess in the distance. The band broke into Voldoferosky's "Waltz of the Eventide", and Steele decided he he suddenly had higher priorities.
"I'm going offline for awhile, Rafe...red alerts only. I need to do some...surveillance work."
"Sure Boss, whatever you say...try not to step on her toes!" Rafe laughed, cutting the comm link. Steele smiled, then straightened his coat and began to walk towards the Princess. His path took him past the point where Mella had dropped the poor sap with a great right-cross, and overheard a group of party-goers laughing about 'that damn fool Makivili never learns!'. Steele filed the name away for a later time. He had more important things to do...
Stepping up to the Princess, Steele bowed down low, sweeping his large arm across his chest and indicating the dance floor.
"M'Lady, I have come to claim the boon you so graciously granted me before: may I have the pleasure of this dance?"
The Princess Replied "Yes of course I Remember now I Did accept a invatation to a dance" She looked at her Hand maiden and said "Ha Ha Told you he wanted to Dace with Me and Not you" The Hand Maiden Replied "Ya i knew he would Me Lady But i was more interested in Mr. Makivili" The princess let out a laugh as she walked away And said "Margereat I dont see what your all worked up over it's just that dweeb Makivili". Margereat Replied "You take that Back you Royal pain in the...." The princess Interupted her saying "Royal Pain In the What?" Margereat desided not to finish her sentence and the Princess went out to the dance floor and shouted to Mr. Steele "Well What are you waiting for? GET OUT HERE".
As beautiful as she was, Steele could not help feel a tang of hesitation as the Princess yelled at him from the dance floor. People who spoke to Steele that way usually regretted it seconds afterwards, but Mella WAS Royalty, and a hot little number to boot. Sighing inwardly, he strode towards where she waited, his most neutral smile plastered across his face. He took her hand, noticing the bruising and slight swelling on her knuckles. He brought her hand to his mouth, and lightly kissed the wound.
"You do me a great honor, m'Lady." Steele lifted her in his arms, and began to move with the music. They danced silently, closely, the smell of her seeping into his soul...Steele realized that he was enjoying himself, and settled back to enjoy the waltz.
Wile all His Guests Were dancing with eachother The prince desided to go for a walk around the Palace Compound. He told his date that he could not hear her over the music and asked if she Would like to go for a walk and talk insted of trying to talk over the music. She Said to Him Why Yes Me Lord I shale go for a walk with you". With that statement the King Pulled His son Aside "Dont you Danm well Do anything With that peasant Girl Remember You are Betrowled to the Princess of the Dragonlords". The Prince Replied "HaHa that witch Like i would Even Think of Even Hnoring a deal that was made even before I was born" The King Barked an Order out at Him "You Will And you must You have taken the oath you cant turn your back on the Safty of our people. You Know What will Happen if you dishonor the Family in the sights of The DragonLord King. He will Declare our Blood line false and Start a War Between Our People And his. You Realy Want that my Son?" The Prince Replied "No father".
The Prince's Date Over Heard The Conversation the Prince and the King were having and she started to Cry and Ran out of the ball Room. People looked At her for a momment then continued to dance. The Princess Who Was dancing With Mr. Steele said to him "I wonder What's Up with my That Girl....I Hope My Nefue the prince has not broken her heart or anything".
The dance was smooth and sexy, but the Princess seemed distracted by the argument between her father and brother. When the peasant girl ran out of the room crying, Steele stopped dancing.
"M'lady, I feel obligated to find out the cause of this young maidens sadness...please be not insulted by my actions, for I shall return to you shortly..."
With that Steele smiled and bowed, and hurried after the crying girl.

You are more then Welcome to attend but the Ceremony has ended it's just a bunch of people talking and dancing now.
The Peasant girl saw that she had been fallowed out of the ball room. She was now siting on the curb crying and saying to herself "How could i be that stupid to think the prince would ever be able to be mine damb The Royal Code of Honor and Damb me for ever thingking the King would change his mind about the Deal He made with that Scum bag Dragon Lord King". she continued to cry.
She then looked up to see if the Man that was fallowing her was comeing out the doors of the Imperial Ball Room then looked at the ground and continued to cry.
Sadness always touched his heart: sad, beautiful women affected other regions of his anatomy. Steele approached the young lady, and offered her his silken handkerchief so she could wipe away her tears. She looked up at him, red-rimmed eyes filled with wetness.
"Now, now, little one, a stunning creature such as yourself should never be so unhappy....tell me, what can I do to make your sadness go away?"
Steele knew that her problem would never be solved: he had seen the way she looked at the Prince, and the way he looked at her. Steele had overheard some of the conversation, and realized that the young girl was destined to live her life with a broken heart. She was low-born, and the Royal family would never accept her.
The girl Looked at him and said "You'll never understand The Royal Honor code It's been years and I still dont understand but i know for sure that i'll never be happy again The king is Stubern in His Ways. He will Never alow his son to break a betralled arainged merriage He'll have me killed before he alows his son to break it". Shge continued I know it was foolesh to think the King would ever Except me but the Prince and I Love eachother i Hoped that The King would have a change of heart but no not him he is to honor obaying to see the truth." She then Said "This Must be Boring you Sir. May I Ask your Name Kind Sir?"
Steele smiled gently down at the young woman.
"Darius Steele, at your service, m'lady. May I sit?" he asked, indicating the curb. When she didn't object, he sat down slowly beside her. Pulling a cigar from his silver case, Steele lit it and puffed thoughtfully for a few minutes. Finally, he turned to her, and his eyes found, and held hers.
"You must understand that you cannot change the Monarchy, little one. The Royals have obligations that simple folk like you and I, never have to face." Darius continued to smoke, blowing perfect smoke rings effortlessly.
"Let me ask you two questions, and you must answer with your heart: First, do YOU truly love the Prince, and second, does the Prince love YOU?"
She Replied "I do love The prince with all my heart. I beleave he still loves me the same i am just heartbroken that he is stuck in a fight between love and honor". she went back to crying
Steele pondered this for a moment: he was a man who solved problems, and who made things right for those who had been wronged. His mind was looking for solutions before he realized it. Then, quite suddenly, he had the answer:
"Well, it seems to me that the only way you two can be together is if he gives up his family name and crown, or if you were also of Royal lineage. I can't help with the first solution, but..." Steele smiled, "...did I tell you that I was also "King" of my homeland?"
The girl averted her eyes, customary for peasants when in the presence of their betters. Steele reached over and lifted her chin, looking her in the eyes.
"I've always wanted a daughter...mind if I call you "Princess"??

Your Friendship is looked at with honor. And you have the permision of the Empire to enter our Great land by sending your representative.
the Girl Replied "No sir i dont mind. but what do you mean always wanted a daughter?" she smiled and continued "you dont mean Adopting a poor Pesant Girl like Me? do you?" she continued "there is alot of stuff the Dailey governing Family would have to aprove before that could be posible but other then that All I Can Say Me Lord is WoW."
When he saw the hope that blossomed in the servant-girl's eyes, Steele knew he had done the right thing. He continued to smile warmly at her.
"Yes, little one, this IS what I am saying: adopting you so that you can be considered as Royalty!"
She looked shocked, and incredulous. As well she should for this was no small matter.
"Now, first off: I need to make this official, and a quick call to my office will settle that matter. You let ME talk to the King, and explain the situation. I think a formal union between Daily and Gawdly would be very appealing to His Royal Majesty."
He looked at the tear-stained face of the young girl. She was very beautiful, and Steele understood why the Prince would have noticed her. He brushed a few loose strands of hair away from her cheek.
"Go get yourself cleaned up, and I'll get things rolling. Oh, and I think you should wear this." From beneath his tunic, Steele removed an ornate amulet on a platinum chain, a sigil of the Realm of Gawdly.
"This shows that you are of my Royal Family...wear it well." Steele had never had any real use for the title "King of Gawdly", but it DID get him invited to a lot of parties and grand functions. Helping this love-struck maiden appealed to Darius Steele's sense of honor and romance, as well as his wallet. A "blood" relationship with Daily could potentially be very beneficial to both planets.
"Oh, and it may be a good idea if I knew the name of my new daughter, don't you?" Steele smiled at her, his new daughter, the soon-to-be Princess of Gawdly.
she replied to the Question of her name saying "My Name is Samantha". with that she got up and walked over to a bathroom to wash her face wile puting the amulet Steele Gave her around her neck and went to tell the Prince what had happened. When the Prince Heard the news He smiled and said to Samantha "I have to find Mr. Steele and Thank him for this".
"Princess Smantha of Gawdly...somehow, that sounds just right." Steele said to the young peasant girl, smiling in a way he hoped was fatherly. As she started to run off to spread the good news, Steele stopped her with a mild warning:
"Don't say anything to anyone EXCEPT the Prince...I need to clear the way with the King, ok?"
Darius walked off, speaking quietly to Rafe who had been listening into the conversation via Steeles implanted comm-link.
"Get the paperwork done for Samantha, and let me know the trading status of Daily." instructed Steele, looking around for a sign of the King. He saw him speaking with some foreign dignitaries, and the big security man began walking towards him. Rafes voice crackled in his ear.
"Sir, are you sure you want to do this? I mean, making her a Princess is a BIG thing, no??"
"Don't worry about it, boyo...this is all about true love, and in the end, true love is what we fight for." Steele was a few feet away from the King, and could only smile in reply when Rafe spoke again.
"Hmmm...you think you need a Prince anytime soon, boss? I'd look great in a crown..."
The King Looked Up and saw that a guest wanted to speak with him he said to his Dear Friends from allied nations "Sorrmy ladies and gentelmen I truly must see what this Guy has to say". With that the People around the king looked up and saw Mr. Steele then they walked over to the food bar and started to talk amoungst themselves. The king Asks Mr. Steele "What May I Do for you Mr. ......... ummm I dont beleave i know your name. He laughed "I see my Camanding officer knows you but who are you if you dont mind My asking?" at this moment The prince was watching with Great interest to see what his father would Say To Mr. Steele's Plan.

Serconea

In Sercon City, President Alexei Tuomas sat at his desk reading the invitation.
"I'm too busy to go, but I'll send them a message anyway".
Message to Prince Jonathan:
Your Highnes,
The Republic of Serconea wishes you a long and happy reign. We have links with Dailey by one of our Princes being a second cousin of a former King and will welcome any members of your family to our country.
Yours,
Alexei Tuomas
President of the Republic.
OOC: Serconea was a principality many years ago.
Steele approached the great and noble King of Daily, towering over him in size. The King's personality made up for his lack of stature, and the informal way he greeted Steele bespoke of the Kings wisdom, patience and good humor. The big security man bowed low.
"Your Majesty, it is truly an honor to meet you. My name is Darius Steele, ruler of the planet Gawdly." The King looked at Steele, silent yet urging him on with his eyes.
"Highness, I do not wish to seem forward, but I must speak with you privately of matters that are of great import for both our nations. It concerns your son the Prince, and my daughter, Princess Samantha."
It sounded weird saying the word "daughter" for though Steele had many women sharing his life and bed, he had yet to sire any children. The memory of Sam's warm look of gratitude strengthened his resolve.
"Your Majesty, I believe that our two whelps are in love...mad, blinding, all-encompassing love...I'm sure you remember how THAT feels?" Steele smiled at the King, who was nodding his head in agreement.
"It may be of interest to discuss how both our Kingdoms would benefit from a union between these two love-birds...what are your thoughts?"
Steele waited as the King digested his words.
The King Looked at Mr. Steele and Said "fallow me to My office" he then added "We will figure out a way to avoid a War With the Dragon Lord Family"he continued "ones we figure that out My Son is free to mary any royal girl he likes to". He stoped to wait for Mr. Steele to reply
"Your Majesty, I believe it would be best if I attend to my matters of State, which I'm sure you understand...I'll take my leave, conclude my obligations and return to speak of this later." Steele tipped his head to the King and turned and walked away. He hoped the King would take this time to deal with Dragon Lord family on his own.
If Steele got involved, all bets were off.
Dailey, Airspace Boundary Line
At the outer edge of Dailey-controlled airspace lay an object of unusual shape and proportions.
Elegantly designed, sleek as the curved body of the stickleback, with the deadly air of a scorpion leant to it by the shape of the forward swept 'wings' - they look more like talons, almost meeting at the far front of the object.
She is sleek, however, and her shape changes constantly, flowing from one tiny modification to her hull to another; her very hull sometimes seems to ripple, as if made from liquid. Any observer would no doubt assume a mere visual effect caused by the scattering of photons upon impact with the hull, which is probably very hot. Or something.
She is also hovering. At twenty-two thousand feet. And she's nearly fifty meters long, with no obvious propulsion system.
It's clear that ICEL has set out to impress.

This is 3rd Ambassador Víressë of the ICEL Diplomatic Corps, speaking on behalf of the Imperial Defence Air Force Aircraft Negotiator, on a peaceful diplomatic mission to Dailey from the Iluvauromeni Commonality of Everlasting Light. Our gunports are sealed, and we carry no offensive weaponry. We request permission to proceed to whatever designated co-ordinates the Government of Dailey have pre-assigned for our arrival.

Víressë sighed as she finished speaking, turning to the Captain.
Quietly, she asked, "Reckon they'll open fire at us?"
The Captain shrugged. "I don't even know if they have the capability to fire at us," he admitted.
Víressë was shocked - but she didn't let it show. "Why not," she asked calmly, only just putting enough inflection into the soft question to make it a real question, and not just a statement of disappointment at his lack of knowledge.
The Captain flinched slightly at the slight; he was merely a Citizen, she was a Noble. A slight such as that, just two centuries ago, could have cost him his social status for his entire life; thankfully, times had changed.
Still, it was too deeply inbred in his culture for him to be anything but worried at her response. "We cannot quite have eyes and ears everywhere, my Lady," he responded very softly, "but I could request the movement of a MISAT into position above Dailey, as we do not have the requisite coverage to watch every place all at once. Currently, Dailey is not flagged as a 'situational state', so we aren't spying on them."
He paused. "Also, as we do not know their capabilities, we did not wish to set them... ill at ease... with regards to spying activities. We may well merely wish to have as complete a knowledge of them as possible, but what good would that do us if they see it as an insult that we need spy on them? Not all civilized nations see things our way, after all. That spying is a necessary evil, that privacy is only a right when other rights of other people are not abridged... and so on."
Víressë was irritated by his lecture; he had said nothing she did not know, except the reasoning behind the lack of observation. "Why was I not informed of the decision not to enact the usual observation?" she demanded.
After all... this was her job. First contact with other civilizations was important, whether they were Humans, Elves, flying sentient dogs with rhino tusks, or whatever in Eru's name else there was in this insane universe.
"See that I am properly informed in future," she ordered - having the authority on 'contact issues' as she did - and spun on her heel to head down to the observation deck, to stare out at the land which they were visiting...
Or, rather, what she could see of it from here.
Central Camand, Dailey Capital
The Radio man opened a Com chanel to the Object in orbit.
"Your message has been cleared and you are welcome to land at point bravo of our Embacy Island. You will be escorted by 4 of our Elete Hover Ships to point bravo do not deveate from a derect course. They will fire at any signs of agretion so be warned."
He closed the chanel and waited for a reply.
Bridge, IDAFA Negotiator; Dailey Airspace, Dailey
The Captain snorted - for the second time - as he listened to the translation, murmouring to the Ambassador, who had arrived, "Trigger-happy lot, they sound. I think you'll be needing that IDSF escort after all, m'Lady."
She nodded slowly. "And possibly my m-blaster, I think," she agreed, before composing her response.
{RF Comm Burst}
We require no escort, and we are disappointed that one would be assigned; it will no doubt greatly delay our arrival. However, if this meets your comfort requirements, we will comply. We will make no aggressive moves, as we are not on a mission of war but of peace. Were we intending to enact aggressive action, we would not have announced our presence. We will therefore strive to fail to take insult at the insinuation that we might have aggressive intent.
{RF Commburst cessation point}
The Captain issued the order to follow the 'hover' ships in; he also gave the order for the Tactical Division to enact passive scans... just in case. He heaved a breath into his lungs and stared at the visual of the ships sent to escort the ICEL pocket cruiser to its destination, and, as he scratched his chin, he idly wondered if they had point defence grids or not - or if they knew that this particular class of ship only opened its gunports right before they fired, unlike other ICEL warships.
Indeed, he wondered if they had any intelligence on ICEL whatsoever; did they know more about us than we know about them, he wondered?
Perhaps that was the reason for the escort; they were aware that this ship was not of a class typically assigned for diplomatic duty. What they didn't know, however, was that all the DCT - diplomatic conveyance type - warships were engaged in other duties. Hence the use of the more nimble, combat-orientated Tyelca Tuo class dual-role air/space pocket cruiser. The Captain of the warship in question wasn't too pleased with the assignment, though. He had been due to join the 5 Stellar Squadron at Vilya Elenosto for redeployment to EMH patrol duty, but this requirement has scuppered that.
Sending anything but a warship for a first contact situation with another civilization was out of the question, the Supreme Commander of the Commonality Space Force had informed him. The Council wanted a warship, and a warship they would have.
He had grumbled anyway, though. It would probably cost him later on...
Quietly, he leaned over to his XO, and muttered, "I hope this Embassy Island isn't too far away, and I further hope they don't use chemical propulsion. It could take forever to get there, if they do."

End of message
Steele was looking for the men's room when Rafe's voice crackled in his ear:
"Sir, we have a bogie just appearing in range...patching through their radio transmission NOW - 'This is 3rd Ambassador Víressë of the ICEL Diplomatic Corps, speaking on behalf of the Imperial Defence Air Force Aircraft Negotiator, on a peaceful diplomatic mission to Dailey from the Iluvauromeni Commonality of Everlasting Light' - ...sir, we're scanning them now, passives only...boss, you ever hear of peaceful diplomats that travel around in a warship? She's a big'un sir, though she looks powered down in the weapons department..."
"Looks can be deceiving, boyo...keep tracking, no actions, keep me updated. Find out who these "diplomats" really are." Steele cut the commlink, and remembered that his bladder was still screaming at him. He went searching the large hall for some relief.
The Negotiator slowed to the prescribed speed as requested. The passive scan by Gawdly hadn't revealed an awful lot: the ship appeared not to have a chemical-based propulsion system; it was projecting an intense electromagnetic field of extreme complexity; and it was clearly designed to give off the least amount of emissions possible: it's not easy to tell whether her point defence systems are powered up, assuming that the sentient(s) behind the scanners even assume she has PD systems.
Furthermore, she bears the same marking that old EOTED warships used to bear, the blazing blue-and-white Three Star Sigil; that may or may not make her more familiar to watching eyes.
On the bridge of the vessel, the Captain was trying not to scoff at the velocity at which they were approaching. He felt as if his ship were on a leash, and he had the urge to respond with humour - albeit humour that wasn't particuarly amusing. The Captain wasn't really the best humourist in the Galaxy. Nor the Solar System, for that matter. Far from it.
In fact, if you gathered all the people who were funnier than him, he reflected, the line would likely reach from here to the 'edge' of the Local Galactic Cluster.
Maybe he was overdramatizing a touch, but he really didn't feel he was very capable of being funny. That hadn't stopped him from trying - when he was younger. Now, however, he had greater discipline.
Therefore, he waited patiently, having ordered his comm officer to send back a simple 'Acknowledged' response; there was no need to involve the Ambassador in the minute matters of landing protocols, after all.
And when the ship did land, he tried not to wince at the fact that his pilot had fouled the landing by causing the ship to bounce slightly on its seals. Usually they came in at far greater velocity, and most of the path in was pre-planned - this time, the pilot had been forced to plot the course all the way, a maneuver which wasn't as easy as one might think, in a ship that usually depended entirely on sub-sentient artificial intelligences for navigation, with the directions merely being given by the 'pilot'.
He wondered how long it would take the Dail.... Daileans? Daileyic? Daileyans? Whatever. He wondered how long it would take them to put their armoured units in place and train their guns on his ship; he estimated that they would have been preparing from the moment that his government made contact, so, they would probably either be waiting for the ship outside, at a distance...
Or they'd arrive shortly after.
He bet on the latter, silently.

The skin of the ship appears to harden once it touches down - small tubes drop out from beneath the ship and clamp to the ground, somehow.
One section of the hull, however, appears to dissolve down into a semi-liquid state, flowing down to the ground and hardening into a ramp of sorts; from the opening come three men wearing jet-black armour, with small tubular objects that could be weapons strapped onto their forearms. The cold-faced soldiers - who bear the letters 'I P G' in Nenyan script upon their left breasts - sweep the area, then stand aside.
The guards are both rather tall, rather slim, and extremely elegant in their movements; they might as well be dancers, with that level of natural grace.
But the woman who steps out behind them is even more graceful; she is clearly not Human, however. It's hard to tell with the guards; their faces are obscured by that odd-looking lumpy black armour - the helmets look more like medieval helmets than modern ones, but they are clearly not medieval helmets.
The non-human woman has pointed ears, gracefully so, and soft green eyes, with long black hair that reaches way past the lower reaches of her back. She wears an entirely white shift, which just so happens to reveal every single curve of her perfect body.
If there were ever a woman made to distract, she was it.
"Greetings," she speaks out in a surprisingly strong, vibrant voice, striding towards the grouping of Daileyans nearby, "I am Ambassador Víressë. The Commonality thanks you for such a warm and pleasant welcome. May all our future dealings be as amiable."
Her guards, wary - as is the norm for soldiers, anyway - follow closely behind. They are careful to maintain a non-threatening posture, however.
[OOC: Gawdly: Your intel would likely indicate that ICEL is a power not to be screwed with, for starters. Historically, they've shown that they're willing to use force when necessary to defend an ally or their own honour - or to protect the lives of the innocent. They're big on honour (although they have a very specific honour code that can be confusing and intimidating, in its complexity, to foreigners). They're known to have observation satelites in critical positions around the globe, apparently giving them around 9x% coverage of the globe at all times. An extensive cislunar satelite grid also gives them pretty good advance warning on shipping entering Earth space. ICEL is known for several things: naval and aerial prowess, MI (a technology currently still unique to us), the invention of Artificial Semantic Intelligence, and for being a triple-species state that enjoys a great deal of internal stability. It would also be well-known that ICEL is anti-lethal arms - the ICEL military pretty much only uses lethal weapons against naval or stellar targets. There are no mechanical lethal arms inside the Commonality that belong to civilians; all of the lethal arms are in military hands. They're also known to be former members of the Triumvirate of Yut, but left under 'interesting' circumstances (to say the least), and were also SATO members before that organisation was disbanded. They are known to be interested in setting up a 'neutral' Alliance (ASH - Alliance of Stability and Harmony) intended to 'replace' the mostly-irrelevant United Nations, with the Treaty of that Alliance (already published and available for reading) being largely based on the old League of Nations. Movement on the ASH Treaty largely stalled when ICEL, formerly known as EOTED, entered into a period of silence during the recent Constitutional Congress. ICEL, under the banner of EOTED, is known to have fought several wars, most of which involved nations which are current members of Metus. ICEL is believed to be extremely hostile towards much of Arda, but is known to desire normalization of relations with those states. It does indeed have relations with several Ardan states, despite the tension caused by the Ardan invasion of the Commonality almost two years ago.
Admittedly, there's much more info I could give, but I'd be here damn near all day long...

The landing Pad at Point Bravo
The guards looked at the stuning Ambassador Víressë in amazement. Merry Brator looks at then men in her Cammand and snarls at them in dibeleaf knowing fulheartedly that The King would not alow any member of his elete guard to google over a lady.
She Says to The Ambassador "Hope your trip was without problems?" She was thinking of the Dragon Lords that were thretening war on the Empire and looked up to the skys thinking it must have been fun avoiding all those Dragon Lord Ships. She continued " We have Embacy hall 281 ready for you to set up an embacy if you are inclined to do so. The king Will Be here from the Capital in a few hours".
One of the Elete Guards Ran up to Merry Brator Saying "Miss Brator! We have Dragon Lord forces just off the Embacy island coast. Me thinks You and the Ambassador should get to the Embacy hall now. The Hover Car is waiting".
Merry Brator Replied "Alright dismiss the guards as we leave to the embacy i'm sure the Ambassador's guards are good enuff" she continued "I have been informed By the TBA alliance minister of Diplomatic Relations that The alliance is extending a hand of friend ship to your great nation".
The Ambassador listened carefully to the exchange, and hiked up one of her eyebrows in the most amazingly delicious manner. "'Dragon Lord' forces?" She frowns, just slightly. "We didn't encounter any hostile forces on the way in... but we did come in from orbit. But I shouldn't worry - I doubt anyone would be stupid enough to attack whilst a Commonality warship is at anchor here. Were they to do so..."
A slight smirk forms on the face of one of her guards, but it's quickly removed.
The Ambassador continues to frown slightly, however. "I was not aware, however, that you were in a state of war. That could alter things drastically. We have a policy of non-interference unless our assets are directly threatened, you understand. - Still! Nothing stops us talking, of course."
She turns to one of her guards and makes a small circular motion with one finger; the guard nods ever so slightly, and his lips move gently for a few seconds, but no sound can be heard.
"If security is an issue, however, we could travel the distance in my ship, the Negotiator, as I sincerely doubt that anyone would be foolish enough to attack a neutral party. She requires no special equipment or terrain to land."

She continued "Well with that all and said a transport will arive soon to pick up the rest of your guards we can take 2 guards with us in the Hover Car".
She stoped to wait for a responce From the Ambasador.
The Elete troops around the area begain to pack up there Equitment and the Leader of the Elete troops Went towards the ship in search of the Ship's Captain.
The guards don't react, but certainly are not happy to hear the Ambassador say, "It matters not. I will take two of my guards with me; the other will return to my ship. I don't need three guards, anyway."
She carefully does not comment on the internal dispute... yet.
"I am rather anxious to move on, however. Will the transport be long in arriving?"
* * *
The leader of the Dailley guard would notice immediately that the 'hatch' - although, to be fair, it's more of a circular hole in the side of the ship with no obvious way to shut it - is still open. The visible segment of the inside of the ship is actually darker than the outside world, so nothing can be seen inside but a hazy shadow near the entrance.
Quietly, the shadow asks, "Were you wanting to come aboard, sir?"
Merry Brator replies to the question of the Transport Arival "Umm... I think this rute runs on a 5 minute time interval so the transport should be here withing the next few minutes".
The leader of the Elete Guard Says to The Shadow "Ummm.. only If the Captain is able to speak I got to derect Him to the Docking port We got other Landing craft coming here soon and we are going to need this Landing pad as soon as we can get it". He continued "What is this metal that liquifies and hardens so fast? I've Never Glimpsed a Ship Like your's Before". He looked at the hull of the ship with great interest. He turns to his men and says "You all are Dismissed Return to the base and await orders from the King" He turns to head to the ships entrance to speak with the Captain.
OOC:Glimpsed is Daileyian For to see something and glimpes are eyes.
Steele had finished with the men's room, and after refilling his scotch, stepped outside to smoke a cigar. He watched the disembarkation with interest, noting the interesting composition of the ship. He was surprised he hadn't heard from Rafe yet, to update him on this craft and its occupants. He activated his internal comm, sending a message to his ship. Strangely, there was no response. He tried again, with the same results. Very strange. Checking his power levels, he realized he was good for 24 hours, as long as he didn't exert himself.
He continued to watch the ship, but his thoughts were of his own.

The shadow becomes quite visible as the leader of the Elete Guard's eyes adjust to the difference in light. He is a normal-enough looking Human with grey-blue eyes and jet black hair; on his belt he wears a bulbous looking weapon that looks more gentle than vicious, somehow. "I will check," he replies briefly, to the earlier statement. His lips move, but no sound is heard from his lips. "It's a device we use," he explains after nodding to thin air for no obvious reason, "that allows me to speak without others hearing what I say. The captain will see you. Please follow me, sir."
There are no visible doors in this corridor, except at the very end of the curve; there, a single door stands. It's the traditional kind, with a handle, and it appears to open outwards. It does so, and a young-looking black-haired man with amber eyes smiles amiably. "Greetings," he offers, nodding crisply to his inferior officer. The other man slips quietly away as the captain beckons the Elete Guard officer into what appears to be an office; at least, there is a desk. There are no doors in here, either, aside from the entrance; how anyone gets around on this ship is an utter mystery.

The Elete Gaurd starts talking to the captain:
"Good Afternoon Sir. My Name is Camander Simons of His Holiness's Elete Guard. I have orders to Derect you and you crew to a docking Bay and have also been gevin permision by the Grand Comand To Invite your crue to have shore leave in our many small food courts. All food and suveniers will be paid for for by the Royal Family Of Dailey. up to a maximun of 300,000 crowns worth of suveniers and 40,000 crows worth of food and drinks."
He stops to wait for a responce from the Captain.

Widely-known: ICEL is known to be quite powerful, having fought in several conflicts and having been on the losing side in none. Her military is known to be exceptionally efficient and effective, but highly dependant on rapid deployment and rapid engagement principles. Further, ICEL is known to prize non-lethal weapons above lethal ones; they prefer to incapacitate an enemy whenever possible. Politically, ICEL is a free and open society operating with an odd combination of socialist and capitalist ideals; the recent ratification of the ICEL Constitution is seen as a breakthrough in the Commonality, as it ensures and guarantees certain rights rarely found anywhere else, such as the right to housing and shelter. Most foreign citizens are allowed into the country without a visa, dependant on that nation's IDFI rating. For example, a citizen from a nation classified by IDFI (Imperial Defence Force Intelligence) as a 'rogue state' would not be allowed entrance without a visa, whereas one classified as 'stable' would be.
Furthermore, ICEL is unusual in one particular respect: it has a society with three seperate species. Humanity, Nenyankind, and the Quendi all live in the Commonality; both Humanity and Nenyankind have, in the past, made efforts to exterminate each other, but a comfortable peace is currently in effect, although there is unease and prejudice in some segments of the community.
ICEL used to be known as EOTED, the Empire of the Eternal Dawn, until it made the transition from an Empire to a 'Commonality'. ICEL is not a true democracy in the usual sense of the word; instead, they operate a dual-system, with roughly (overall) half of their government officials being elected and half being selected at random from the population above a certain age. The Executive Council, responsible for foreign policy, defence, and the general safety of the Commonality, is not elected or selected at random, but is selected by the Emperor or Empress. The current Empress is Rialla ux-Rihad II, who is known to be far more appeasing and friendly than her often aggressive father - who lead the old Empire in its early days - Si Ling I. The Empress has little power beyond that of the other members of the Executive Council in theory, but is still a strong power in the Commonality in practice, in part due to tradition.
Technologically, ICEL is not exceptionally advanced in all fields. However, ICEL scientists have shown particular capability with regards to electromagnetic manipulation and, thusly, nanotechnology. Although there are - as yet (OOCly speaking, I can safely say that there never will be, either, although it will always ICly be 'just over the horizon' for realism purposes) - no truly military applications of nanotechnology that are prevalent through the CEL military, it is known, excepting the development of a special variety of armour used on the Tyelca Tuo class warships. ICEL 'flying ships' (including spacecraft and atmospheric warships, and those ships capable of both) do not usually have any armour, as armour would interfere with their EM propulsion systems (the highly-secret and closely guarded propulsion system is referred to as magnetic impetus), but this particular class of ship is known to be capable of taking several hits. This is achieved by making the armour 'semi-fluidic'. Of course, the metal isn't really fluidic at all; it's just composed of very tiny parts - nanobugs, if you like, although they're so simple in operation that really, they're just specially designed little bits of metal - that can be moved over and against one another to reform the shape of the hull in a limited fashion. This allows the utmost level of control over the EM fields that move the ship, as well as allowing the 'armour' (which is also the 'engine') to be thicker than would otherwise be possible.

This room has no doors other than the entrance, either. It's a mystery, an utter mystery - until a young looking officer walks through the western-facing bulkhead. He hands over a flexisheet, which the captain presses his thumb against after offering an apology for the interruption, and then calmly walks through the wall again.
"Security measure," the captain explains, as if that says it all.
"That is a most generous offer indeed," he replies with a smile, "and I'm sure all eight of us will be most glad to take you up on your offer. Do you have the co-ordinates for the landing bay? I'll relay them to the bridge now, if you wish?"
Steele had finished with the men's room, and after refilling his scotch, stepped outside to smoke a cigar. He watched the disembarkation with interest, noting the interesting composition of the ship. Inside the small ship, Rafe looked over nervously at the beautiful woman sitting in the Captain's chair. The lights on the bridge were orange, indicating high-alert status. Rafe whispered to her.
"What now, Tanis?"
The young woman looked at Rafe briefly, then returned her gaze to the small screen in front of her. The moment the dataflood on the ICEL had come in, she had ordered full stealth, effectively making them invisible, but still vulnerable. Communication had been cut with their boss, Darius Steele, who was now stranded on the surface of the planet. The arrival of this powerful nation was puzzling, and Tanis didn't like puzzles. Until she could safely guess why the ICEL would bother with a backwater like Daily, she had to assume it was for nefarious purposes.
The main problem at this point was time. She had less than 24 hours to decide her next course of action. Steele's life depended on it.

Bridge of the Negotiator
The four bridge officers - half of the total crew - shared confused looks at the report of the SensOps officer as she spoke;
"...and then it just vanished. Sat surveillance in the area is non-existant, so I can't do a proper search. We wouldn't have seen it, but we happened to have a cislunar surveillance satelite in just the right position as we arrived; it reported the presence of... a ship, perhaps - but I didn't have time to confirm. And without the full sat survey capability we usually enjoy, I didn't have a chance to try to get a visual on them; I can just tell you that there was something there as we arrived, and then it vanished. It's probably still quite visible to the right scan, but without an eye in the sky, our sensor resolution is severely limited, sir."
The commanding officer at the time, Commander Teleth Dth'gar, sighed heavily. "Squirt the data back to the CSF and IDFI - grey encryption, eyes only, please, Mister Selef - and see if either of them have the silhouette of that 'ship' on file. - Weapons, I want you to look at ways to enhance our response, should we come under fire while gunports are sealed. Firing up the gunport motors could cost us several hundred milliseconds, and although this is a diplomatic mission, I know that the captain would be concerned at this... turn of events."
The WeapOps officer nodded, and turned back to his station to begin conferring with the ship's ASI.

IDFI Command Centre, IDF High Command, exact location unknown, ICEL
"Sir," the officer opened with, trying to catch the attention of his supervisor. The woman finally looked up; it had taken her at least seven seconds. In his opinion, that was terribly inefficient. He caught a whiff of disapproval from her, but the her mind shut tight - and he tried not to interpret that as an insult. Empathic communication was, by IDFI regulations, to be limited to essential communication only during on-duty hours.
Even so, it was hard to smother his reaction.
"What is it, SatOp 227?"
He tried to ignore the formality of being referred to as a number; it was annoying, even after six months in this position. "We have an IDF AF warship requesting data on a silhouette they noted on arrival in... a minor country called Dailey. They're on a diplomatic mission, so they don't have full sat surveillance capability, and they wanted to know if we have the silhouette on file."
He handed over the flexi. "I don't have authorization to access those files," he added, needlessly.
"Of course not," she agreed haughtily as she read the report. After a few long moments, she added, "Is there a reason you are still here, SatOp 227?"
"No, sir," he responded, a hint of irritation in his voice.
She sniffed. "Then please," the emphasis made the word distinctly impolite, "return to your station."

Once the underling had left, she set about securing authorization to begin active surveillance of Daily. She clicked open a comm channel to her Controller, who took nearly twenty minutes to get back to her. He then informed her that the Commissioner was looking into the matter, and why hadn't she just passed it on via Sarah in the first place?
She sighed. It seemed, these days, as if you had to do whatever it was you hadn't already done, just to get things right. Returning to her work - supervising thirty SatOps operatives was not an easy job, and required infinite patience, as the day could pass with nothing of interest to do whatsoever - she was surprised to see a flashing light soon appear on her terminal.
She clicked on the trimensional 'visor, and was heartily surprised to see the Chief Commissioner of NIOUA appear on the cubicle wall before her. She stood, immediately.
"Sir," she responded, saluting with left hand to right breast.
"At ease," the three-dimensional image told her, before going on, "you have authorization. We do have something similar on file, but the fact is, we don't know who that ship belonged to, either. MISAT 41-c-7 detected a vessel using extremely efficient stealth technology not that long ago; that particular unit is not far from the position of the Negotiator, the ship that called in this anomaly. I'm giving you authority to move MISAT 41-f-9 into a magnetosynchronous 90 degree surveillance position immediately; she's a MISATmk1b, so passive use only. Chief Commissioner out."
She stared at the screen. Why was so much interest being focused on this, she wondered?
* * *
Near Earth Orbit
A type of automated satelite unit, what ought to have been named a MISATA was always referred to as a MISAT - a Magnetic Impetus Surveillance Asset for Tactical Applications. The MISAT network gave ICEL quite extensive coverage of the Earth - but nobody can watch everywhere, all the time. That coverage is usually referred to as '9x%' coverage; meaning that more than 90% coverage of the globe is ensured by the network. In actuality, however, not all of the satelites were watching different places all the time - some focus-points required several units to handle the total load; so the real figure, at any one moment, was probably closer to 70%.
This meant that either you had to launch a new satelite every time something new cropped up where you didn't have one before (the old policy, before the current swarm of satelites was in place) - or you just moved one. As it happened, the network was designed with this in mind; each satelite could be moved at will, powered by a microwave power beam fired by its nearest neighbour - indeed, these beams could well be shot all the way around the planet, sometimes, when one satelite or another ran a little low on juice. This meant that no solar panels were required: all power was provided on a weekly run by a single vessel into orbit, which stored the electricity in superconductive coils, and then fired microwave beams at several satelites, which then distributed that energy throughout the grid. The advantage to this system was also that nobody could keep running the satelites for very long, even if they did capture them: nobody knew the specific frequency of the power beams - not even ICEL. The entire operation was automated, and no data on the proper frequency was stored: it was just built into the delivery systems.
This particular satelite, a MISATmk1b, is a larger variant of the smaller, original MISATs - the old MISATs now referred to as the MISATmk1. The mk1b is designed primarily for passive surveillance, and, as such, comes fitted with a vacuum-sealed mercury lens-and-mirror system - giving it such high resolution that the sensitive telescope could count the hairs on a flea's back from Lunar orbit.
Naturally, they're very expensive. Naturally, that means there are only so many to go around. Further, they're also used by civilians - so the movement of the satelite isn't even hidden from the public. Questions, no doubt, will be asked...
Why is a high-resolution surveillance satelite moving into position over Dailey?

"Thank-you," the captain responds, keying in the co-ordinates and hoping his NavOps officer can make sense of them. He hasn't a clue what they mean, but then, he wasn't in the NavBranch. "There is an access terminal on the wall just here..."
He taps the wall with a finger, and a small cabinet opens. It's a normal opening, and once it is open, it's plain to see that there's actually a faint outline there: it's just disguised cunningly by careful colouring, so you only know what to look for when you know what to look for, and not before.
Definitely a security-conscious bunch, these Iluvauromeni.
The man smiles, after tapping at the console a little; it looks surprisingly primitive, actually, with toggles and switches on one side of the flat display and a more modern keypad - if bulky - on the other. "There; it's in privacy mode, which means it won't record your keystrokes. - If you enter the frequency you wish to transmit on here, and then hit this button," he indicates with a finger, "then you just speak or enter your transmission on the pad. Then hit the 'execute' button to send. - That's the one with the F on it." He pauses, before adding with a pointing finger, as if realizing that the entire language structure is probably different and that these people don't use the Nenyan alphabet.

The Noldorin lady is first out of the vehicle, even though this causes her guards no amount of distress. Not that they show it; but their tough demeanours and clear discipline indicates that they wouldn't approve. No soldier given the responsibility of the security of a delegate would.
Still, it's a display of trust that is no doubt not lost on the Crowned Prince. "Your Majesty," the beautiful Víressë greets, bowing her head to what would be called the Fifth Degree back in the Commonality - the second-highest symbol of level of respect. Her chin does not touch her chest, but it is not a large gap that is left; she holds the head-lowered position for precisely one and a half seconds, then raises her head and smiles openly. She looks the man right in the eye, having decided that any insult caused will probably be mitigated by the odd reaction that Human males seem to have to female Elves.
Must be the ears, she mused, at the same time noting that this Royal Family seemed to dress in a way not too disimilar from the Imperial Family back in the Commonality: white seemed popular amongst these Sovereign-types.
"I am 3rd Ambassador Víressë et Finwë, Cultural Officer of the Commonality Diplomatic Corps, representing the Iluvauromeni Commonality of Everlasting Light." She winces slightly, realising that that may make her sound more important than she is: the sheer number of words involved in stating any position one held in the Commonality could be misperceived as overimportance.
The Elete Guard gose over the the panel and types in His Security Code and hits the send button.
Meanwile the Prince looks at the the Ambasador and Smiles. he turns to the Dailey Diplomatic minister and says "No one told me the Ambasador was a lady" he continued "I would have worn a better uniform if i have known"
The captain smiled slightly; that the foreign officer was willing to trust his word was a good sign. He doubted that the Ambassador would have any difficulties; which was good. It made a pleasant change.
"Are you heading the same way as us? If you are, I'll give the order to move out right away."
* * *
The Ambassador smiled softly, and decides to take a minor risk. "Whyever would you wish to do that, Majesty? You look rather dashing in that one besides."
the Elete Guard Replies to the Captain saying: Yes I am heading to the same area. I only live a block away from the Docking yard in a military Houseing complex. And I would be grate full if I did not have to use public transport to get home.
_________________________________________________________________
The Prince replies Saying: "Because a Antensen Wears His best outfit In front of a Lady. But ya This is a Good outfit for were I Just came from." He continues by asking a question "What do you think of My Father's Empire so Far?" he stops and waits for a reply.
"Perfect," the captain smiled, moving to flick open a contact on the terminal. "Commander, make haste, please. - Not too much haste," he rectifies, smiling wider, "I don't think these people would be too pleased if we smashed every window within a hundred miles."
A faint chuckle is heard down the comm line. "Aye, aye, sir."
"It shouldn't take too long to arrive, even at subsonic," the captain offers conversationally.
There's no sensation of movement; it's impossible to tell whether or not the ship has actually lifted into the air or not.
* * *
The Ambassador continues to smile, but decides that that is perhaps amongst the most difficult questions she's ever been asked; it's always difficult to tell what's expected, and what ought to be said, considering the vast differences in culture that often are discovered. How to answer? She considers for a moment before responding, "I'm afraid I really haven't seen that much of Dailey yet. Your land did look rather fetching from the air, I must say, however."
The Elete Guard Says to the captain : "Well yes it should only take about 30 minutes Embacy Island is not that big most of the embacies are under ground". he continues "If you look due west ouch a window you will See Donsk Dailey's Capital and Home of His Holiness the King" he adds "I've only been to the capital one time in my intire life I plan on going back when I retire From the Army" he stops to see what the Captain says
_________________________________________________________________
The Prince Says to the Ambasodor: "Well When you have time i would be Honored if I could show you around the Empire". He looks at the door man of the Embacy and says "What are you waiting for? Open the door for the Ambasodor" he Continues " Ah Forget it I'll do it My self". He desides to Open the Door himself and waits for the Ambasodor to Walk into the Embacy.
The captain idly hoped that his NavOps officer didn't screw up on the co-ordinates, but said nothing of his concerns. Instead, he merely raised an eyebrow curiously. "You would have to take public transport?"
* * *
The Ambassador smiles as she enters through the door, casting over her shoulder, "Why, I would be most honoured, Highness."
the Guard says to the Captain:
Yes i sort of sent my ride away before i came to talk to you. my only hope if I could not get a ride from you guys is to use the tram system and that is just a over crouded pain to get on and off of.
_________________________________________________________________
The prince smiled as He heard What the Ambasador Said. He Walks into the building right after the Ambasador.
The Building is finely decorated intirely of oak and cider and pine furnishing and The walls are all made of fine Cut Marble it's Hard to beleave that on the other side of the walls there is Just Dirt and Rock. The windows are false windows with macanical senery that makes the rooms feel like there above ground.
As the Prince Came into the Building his Younger sis came runing towards him and takled him to the ground. She was wearing the school cloths of a Elementery school kid. She wispers in the princes Ear. and the Prince says outloud "No that is not true". He then blushs and says "go play with the lions you pain in the rear". he continues to walk as His sister walks away with a Sad Face and tears running down her face.
The captain lets out a quiet ahhh sound. "I see. Well, it shouldn't take long. - May I ask a question?"
* * *
The Ambassador, what with her pointy ears and excellent Elf hearing, tries exceptionally hard not to hear what is whispered. It's actually quite difficult, but she manages to listen to the quiet sound of the wind washing over the walls of the building outside, instead, which muffles the sound in her mind just enough for her to hear words but not understand their content.
Were she Human, she would no doubt make some comment along the lines of, "Sisters, eh?" but she is not. Instead, she pointedly - it's clearly intentional - ignores the encounter and merely follows the Prince on their path. She does give a quick glance towards the upset child, though, and a wistful expression passes over her face just for the blink of an eye.
He was not one to panic.
Darius Steele plastered yet another politicians smile on his face, and shook the limp hand of the diplomat in front of him. He'd already forgotten the man's name, because his mind was working overtime. What had happened to the ship? What about Rafe and Tanis? His comm-link was still dead, and his exo had just gone on battery mode....Steele was on his own. He had about 22 hours to change that.
Theoretically, he should be just enjoying himself, savoring the free-flowing bourbon, feasting on the gourmet foodstuffs and wooing the beautiful maidens...and he would have been, but then the Elves arrived.
He could feel them now, in a way that was new yet almost familiar. Steele was still learning to cope and adjust to his increased abilities, but he knew instinctively when one of the "High Races" were around...Elves, Vampires and the like. Normally, this would have posed no problem for him, but the circumstances for their presence tonight were puzzling. The High Races were not known to be social creatures, especially outside of their own kind. For them to be here, on this relatively young world, caused Steele's paranoia to rear it's ugly head.
The porky diplomat was still talking and had drawn a small crowd, so Steele politely excused himself, heading towards the bar. On his way, he scouted out the hall, not seeing the man of honor around anywhere...where WAS the Prince, anyway? Darius made his way across the polished marble floors, aware of the looks he was drawing. Even in the natty and very expensive, custom-made suit he was wearing, he didn't look like a diplomat. He resembled exactly what he was: a warrior in designer duds.
Arriving at the bar, he lit another of his cheroots and ordered a drink from the lovely serving girl, who seemed to be of legal age. He smiled at her swaying hips as she walked away to fill his order.
The captain lets out a quiet ahhh sound. "I see. Well, it shouldn't take long. - May I ask a question?"
The guard Answers: Ya sure Whats the Question?

He said to the Ambasador "I cant that sister of mine. she is so embarasing" he stoped to wait for the Elevator and said "Going Down!" he then explains that for safty reasons for all diplomats from other nations the Embacy Halls were built intirealy under the ground. not for safty from the Diplomats but for the safty of the diplomats.
The guard Answers: Ya sure Whats the Question?
"I was wondering," the captain begins, obviously in full diplomatic mode, "what the name of your capital city is? The capital of our land is Nenya, which is nestled at the edge of the Aelinenya, a large lake. To the north are the Tumnorean Mountains; to the east, Ax-turath, a province of the Commonality; and to the west, Tek, the capital of the Ma-tek province."

"I see," she smiled. "In our capital city, Nenya, the embassies are built in the Foreign Quarter - they, too, are underground, but much of our workplaces and living quarters are beneath the surface in the capital. This is mostly to protect Nenya Forest, inside which the capital is built, rather than for security concerns. Most of the buildings on the surface are either old government buildings, or entertainment centers, such as..."
She gives a small laugh. "Such as cinemas and the like." This was obviously not what she was originally going to say.
The Guard Replied to the question: Our Capital City is Donsk. It lies some 50 miles west of Embacy Island it is the only City in the empire that is built above the water. all other cities were built to be under the Daileyan Sea.

"I see," the captain replied. "We have not yet built any submarinal cities, but we have several underwater facilities in the Bay of Turath. There has been talk of constructing a domed city in the Bay for many years... but somehow the funding is never made available, or the process for allocating resources stalls. The will just is not there, yet. - But tell me... what made your people decide to build underneath the waves in that manner?"

Víressë tried not to giggle; it was obvious the man was staring at her, and to her way of thinking, she could not quite understand his whispered statement to himself. Why shouldn't he stare?
"I understand the pressing urgencies of state," she replies softly, unable to resist adding, "there's no reason for you not to stare. Indeed, I am greatly complimented, Highness."
She lifts a hand and touches one of her elegantly pointed ears. "Excellent hearing," she says by way of explanation, an amused glint in her eyes.
the guard replies:
Well Our people are desendant of the Human Vikings and we wished to go back to the sea. so after the great Galatic War of 2032 the Population of the Holy Empire of Dailey formerly known as Colony alpha 2 seperated from Earth and for a defencive mesure went under the seas. it was our only hope you see the Empire was at war with the Earth forces from 2032 till 2105 earth Years. our cities were being bombed almost every day and the King's Great Grandfather John Antensen VII desided to give the order to build the first under water city named at the time Last ditch Efort but now known as Point Bravo. He stops to wait for a responce to the info he was geving.

The prince Says to the Ambasedor:
"Umm did not mean for you to hear that" he then blushs and continues " well 5 more floors to go and we will be at the asigned floor for your embacy. Floor 18". He smiles and wispers to himself "Hope she likes this place"
the elevator Reachs the floor and opens to the main entrance area of the Embacy. It is ritchly decorated with bright flowers along the marble walls.
he waits for the Ambasedor to say something about the Main entrance and head to the Embacy door to show the Ambasedor the Area her Embacy staff has to work with.

"I see. Please, do go on; I am very interested in the history of foreign nations," the captain replied, pausing for a moment before adding, "and of course, it is the officer's duty to be an... intellectual... as well as a soldier. More so, should they enjoy learning."

The Ambassador's eyes widen at the mention of the word 'Embassy'. "Highness," she begins slowly, "I do hope you have not allocated the Commonality anything more than several rooms, for we do not maintain an active staff at any of our foreign embassies, save the one aboard the CSS Valiant, and new International ICEL Embassy in International City."
She pauses for a moment, taking in the entrance room a little more. "I must say, the architecture is splendid. - Further, though we are honoured that you would wish us to open an Embassy, I can only offer several varying priority diplomatic channels to the Commonality at this first visit. I did bring several specialist communication devices, known at trimensional viewing 'visors, however. They will allow you to make direct contact with the Iluvauromeni Diplomatic Corps Compound in Nenya. We do not see the need to be physically present, you understand, except on specialist visits. Even our allies do not have an ICEL Embassy inside their border that is staffed with organic Sentients."
The guard Continues:
the only parts on the Empire civilian wise above ground other then the Capital City are the industrial islands and the Old Diplomatic Districts. just north of Embacy island you can see the former Earth Camand compound it's just over 900 square miles in area and is the bigest museum in the intire empire. but back to the topic of the cities. Each city holds around 5 million people and new cities and underwater tunnels are built as the population grows. Right now we have over 900 Underwater Cities. he Stops to wait for a responce

it's only about 6000 Square feet of space to work with. hope it's not to much space

OOC: Is it too late for people to join? This sounds cool, and I haven't developed my leaders much, so it'll give me some incentive for it.

ooc: cool, but don't expect it immediately because my computer is screwed and i don't have access to my files - maybe it'll spontaneously start working again tomorrow, who knows, it's happened before.

"I see," the captain responds. "We have relatively few cities, but they are very densely populated. Even so, over half of our population lives in rural areas. Yet our most populous city contains over a third of a billion Sentients; I see were are both highly urbanized, yet in different ways." He smiles.

The Ambassasor grimaces ever so slightly, producing a small circular object from a pocket. "This is all we'll need space for, I'm afraid, Your Highness," she offers softly, holding the device up in the light. It has odd etchings on it, and is about seven centimeters in diameter; it is almost flat, but not quite.
The Elete gaurd says:
"could I use that Radio again? I need to check in with my Camanding officer." he then continues about the city disigns "The Capital is designed to be intergrated into the forest suroundings to help defend from being found. all biulding have a tree garden on there roofs and all streets have camo neting suspended above them. most on the roads are for foot trafic there are only 2 main roads for Cars. As time paces the Empire might deside to turn the Capital into a museum as well and move completly under water but for now the capital is safe from danger. the Empire Signed a peace treaty with Earth forces near the end of 2105 Earth Years. tensions have slowly been rising again between Erth and the Empire but the Empire is now stranger then before and earth has seperated into many factions. making it weak and pitiful compaired to the Empire. the underwater cities are designed with a main park and a farming area withing the city hydroponics is a major industry in all the cities. all of them can be self sufitiant if at any time the tunels must be closed."
