Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of all who Threaten it
Introduction:
Agrigento became a single, unified state when the four separate kingdoms of Varisca, Manascala, Giordanelli, and Castrolo were united under King Umberto I. This Monarchy lasted for just over two centuries, with several parliamentary reforms throughout its history and one unsuccessful revolution during the rule of King Umberto III. For the subsequent years the Kingdom of Agrigento thrived under the reign of such notable monarchs as Umberto VI, Emilio III, and Roberto IV. With the coming of Industrialization the power of the royal family slowly died. Umberto VII, the last king of Agrigento, established the first tenets of Republican Democracy by relinquishing the majority of his power to hands of the recently formed Senate. Just prior to his death, in 1896, his two daughters and only heirs graciously abdicated the crown, ending the long rule of the Variscan Royal Family.
In the Fall of 1902 the Senate of Agrigento created the first Constitution, and announced the separation of powers. Ubaldi Pianelli was elected as the first President of the Republic in 1904.

It is home to San Marco Airbase, and San Giuseppe Naval Base as well as large resorts and beautiful beaches. Sicily, at one point in Ancient times, was home to more Greeks than Greece, earning it the name Magna Grecia. Sicily has been conquered by Carthaginians, Romans, Persians, Moors, French Knights, Viking Raiders and assorted others.
