Space Tech? (OOC)

Not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, but hopefully it is.
I'm thinking about starting up a Future-Tech nation, with equipment based on Homeworld, Homeworld: Cataclysm. But I've noticed that a lot of Future-Tech nations are considered God-Modders...I was wondering if there was any way to Role-Play sort of realisticly (no Planet-Destroying uber-guns or 1,000 ship armadas with 100 billion and one super soldiers)?

I haven't encountered this much myself, save for the obvious cases of godmoddery and crappy RPers which all genres here have.

It's also easy to miss judge what's feasible in future tech, and especially space tech, what with it being based far less solidly in reality than modern or near future.

Thanks for the link, Blackwolf Order, it was very helpful. This is just an idea I'm tossing around...I'll probably start up a Future-Tech nation, but wait several weeks (if not months) before bringing it to the "internati-...er...intergalactical (I suppose) spotlight. This'll give me time to work out issues...I want to make it so that my nation can build its own ships that can produce them in reasonable numbers (not an insanely high amount)...but I may need a little guidance on that.

I just don't want to end up being labeled a God-Modder, heh...and have a Role-Play of more than: "Nation A sends 2,000 mega-super-duper capitol ships with 1,000,000,000,000 to endz yourz lifez!!!11!"

I have a dislike for future tech, but there, my skaven can run around with warpstone devices that need not exaushtive history explanation. But when I first started, I had fifteen armed merchant ships.....wow, how time flies and armies grow.....

Go for it, but start with only small craft, also try not to limit your forces to a game, movie or tv show that everybody hasn't seen. Come up with your own vessels, it's fun and it's easier to come up with something powerful that isn't out of the price range for your nation. There are lots of FT nations out here.
