It was announced today by the First Republican that the Republican Council would expand to an additional two seats in time for next years elections. This is the first time in 30 years that new seats have been added.

The First Republican explained the plan to reporters earlier today.

"As we all know the Free Republic has had unprecedented growth over the last ten years and this has meant an increased workload for all members of the Republican Council, but two in particular. Because of the increase in the economy the Minister of Economics has been hard pressed to deal with internal economic development and regulating foreign investment. That is why the first new office will be Minister of Foreign Trade.

The second will be an office to help the Minister of Internal Affairs, who has had to deal with roads, new housing, enviromental management etc.. It ws decided that we would peel off the single largest area of expansion, housing and development and give that to a new Minister, the Minister of Housing and Development.

The new Ministers will be decided by majority vote of the Republican Council, and in the next elections they will be fully elected by the people. It is my hope that we will be more flexible and more responsive to the needs of the People as the Free Republic continues to grow and prosper."

The First Republican announced that debates and nominations for the Ministerial positions would begin tomorrow. The new Republican Council will be made up of ten Ministers and the First Republican.

After week long debates the Republican Council had finally hammered out the format for adding two new Ministries. The Ministers had all gathered in the dining hall of the House of the Republic to sign all of the final documents and legalize the entire process before making a statement to the press.

The First Republican sat looking over some documents " Right, the constitution states that adding unelected officials to the Council cannot change the majority attained through the vote so, 1 new Minister from the V.L.P. and 1 new Minister from the R.O.P. will solve that........" he pauses and looks up, the Ministers nod their approval.

He looks to the Minister of Defence "You are the ranking member of the V.L.P. you had expressed that your party wished to head the Ministry of Foreign Trade?"

The Minister of Defence nodded "We feel that Dr. Ali-Shah with her experience in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and background in Economics would be suited for this position."

The First Republican responded " And if we appoint her, the V.L.P. will back the Council unanimously in creating the new Ministries?"

The Minister of Defence nodded and smiled "Of course."

The First Republican nodded "Okay, then the R.O.P. would want Tyvim Davor, the current assistant to the Minister of the Interior to head the Ministry of Housing and Development." He paused waiting for any reply

The Ministers looked at one another but they had already agreed to most of this.

The First Republican nodded "Okay, then tomorrow, we meet in open session, have the official vote and then announce the appointees, let's go and let the new Ministers know to be here tomorrow and get everything going."

With that the meeting adjourned and the Ministers all headed off to their offices..............

Republican Council Completes Expansion.

Earlier today the First Republican met with reporters and announced that the Republican Council had added two additional Ministries in accordance with earlier plans. The addition of two new Ministries brings the number of seats on the Council to 11, with 10 Ministers and the First Republican.

The new seats added are the Ministries of Foreign Trade and Urban Development. The Republican Council now consists of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economics, Technology, Defence, Judicial Affairs, Education, Technology, National Security, Foreign Trade and Urban Deleopment.

"These new posts will help future Republican Councils to act more quickly and more responsively to the needs of the people. In next February's election the current appointed Ministers will be replaced with popularly elected Ministers.

I am pleased that we were able to create these new Ministries unanimously in the Republican Council, it is indeed vital that the Council expand as is necessary to keep pace with the development and expansion of the Republic."

Stated the First Republican.

It is almost certain that these new Ministries will fall under intense scrutiny in the run-up to elections.
