The first colony ship had reached the planet they had 'discovered' and settlers were being shuttled down. The Dyellians were thrilled that nobody had colonised this place, the reality of course was that nobody would want to colonise it.
The Planet now named Morland, had taken two weeks of travel to reach and while the air was breathable, if maybe a little thin on oxygen, it was however, in essence one giant desert wasteland with very limited natural resources. There was one exception to this, in the South there was an Ocean of sorts, it's salinity was such that nothing could live in it. It was surrounded by the "green veldt" where some strange trees grew and insects dwelled. This area varied slightly in it's makeup, from festering swamp to dense jungle. It did however have some decent soil.
The other major problem on the planet was the temperature. Around the sea the temperature varied around 10 to 30 degrees celcius, while on the equator it varied from about -50 to 70 depending upon the time of day...
Governor Nairn had been given this new planet to administer. He was a balding man, in his mid 50s, with years of military experience under his belt. He breathed in the thin air and grimaced, this place was a shit hole, but they had at least managed to get away with colonising it without the JDF breathing down their neck the whole way... with any luck it would stay that way.
