I plan to start a RP set in a massively multiplayer, multi-genre virtual world. More information on how it all works will be available as soon as I can dig out my text floppy.

Until then, questions can be asked and people can sign up. I'll start the actual RP topic when I've got 5-6 participants.

Hrrm. This reminds me of Tad Williams' Otherland series (If you haven't read it yet, go do so now!). It'd be a good thread for Rei-Sarenghai, actually, since they've already got wireless terabyte connections for VR. Could be good; I'll keep an eye out for more info.

I am always interested in any work of Khrrck's, so I'd like to join this when it gets set up. A good idea, yes, yes.

It's close to direct sensory, but there's a "action layer" between you and the game.

The "action layer" helps you with certain actions; for instance, you might not have the skill to use a sword effectively in real life, so the action layer helps with that. The better you get at a certain action, the less the action layer helps you. The action layer also helps if your character has physical limbs or abilities you don't have in real life; for instance, if your character was a dragon, the action layer would help you with quadrupedal movement and flight.

A player performing a action on his own will always be more effective than a player performing a equivalent action with the help of the action layer. This encourages players to learn to do things on their own.

Great care has been taken to keep the action layer unobtrusive, while still making it possible to tell if you're using it or not.

Also, do you have a plot involved in this, or is it totally freeform?

I plan to have a plot, but I'm not exactly sure just what the plot is going to be as of yet. We'll see how things go, yes? It may end up going in a completely different direction because of one of you. This isn't a novel, you see. It's flexible.

[OOC: What exactly prevents you from participating, Padmasa? If it's your tech level, be aware that you don't have to RP someone from your nation. You can use someone from a more technologically advanced nation instead.]

OOC: It's the sheer number of other RPs and other things in the works that prevents me from joining in and giving it the attention it deserves. When you are in something like 3 other RPs, are redesigning your army/space fleet from the ground up, and have another couple of RPs in the works well... Also, about a not using one of my citizens, I'm futuretech so tech is no problem.

EDIT: I might actually get into this, it seems a major player in one of my RPs (and most all of those that are in the works) is having problems with the forums. We'll see if he can get it fixed soon or no.

I snitched the title from a Peter Gabriel song... One of the lyrics in the song is "It's a knockout." Now I know why.

Be aware that GWF does some sanity checking on character abilities. You'll find there's some things you can't get away with. However, you can do pretty much anything in one area... but I'll let Josephine explain that.
