Masters Football I : Scores & RP Thread

Krytenia
13-08-2004, 03:13
After much waiting, the Masters Football Tournament is set to begin. The draw will take place on the #sport channel on irc.esper.net at approx. 11am BST (6am EST).

The seedings are based on the KPB rankings, however will have no bearing on the rank scores - RPing will make a BIG difference.

Here are the Masters Rules:

*The squad is made up of 10 players, made up of one goalkeeper and nine outfield players. (Please re-post rosters accordingly) Substitutions are rolling and unlimited.

*The game is 16 minutes long, split into two halves of 8m apiece. The clock only stops in case of major injuries.

*The game is played on a carpeted ice-hockey rink. The Rules Of The Game are the same as normal football with two exceptions:

1) There are no offsides, and each team must keep AT LEAST one player in their opponents half at all times.
2) Kick-ins replace throw-ins/corners/goal kicks, and are only used if the ball travels over the side walls.

There will be four Masters Groups, three of five teams and one of six. Each team plays their peers once. The winners of each Masters will meet in the Masters Final, made up of four teams playing each other once, a total of eight match days.

Cockbill Street
13-08-2004, 11:49
1 Jorn Axewielder - keeper, aged 45, legendary for performances from the World Cup 10 Big Change till we got knocked out by Liverpool England in World Cup 12
2 Helen Carpenter - central defender, aged 42, the first human female to play for Cockbill Street, she captained the team until World Cup 14.
3 Calcite - winger, aged 46, another troll in the side, however, this one is actually rather quick and nimble
4 Greg Pollock - striker, aged 42, Tungsten-carbide's usual mate up front, went to Giant Zucchini after World Cup 12 and has earned his money there since
5 Tungsten-carbide - striker, aged 51, heavy up-front striker that might not be useful in ten-a-side. But a legend nevertheless.
6 Harald Axewielder - winger, aged 40 - yup, he's here too.
7 Niall Johnson - central defender, aged 37 - played for Harewood FC for ages, was a useful partner to Carpenter
8 Calcium-carbonate - full back, aged 44, legendary defender who was offered a contract abroad, but decided to stay in the Street. True patriot who never missed a tackle.
9 Bjorn Hammerhock - winger, aged 46, solid right winger with some real talent
10 Thomas Lehrer - midfielder, aged 42 - his free-kicks are legendary.
---
11 Johnny Rowan - sub keeper, aged 42 - substitute. It's all he ever was good for.
12 Tor Stronginthearm - striker, aged 43, useful top man along with Pollock and Tungsten in the old days
13 Bjorn Axewielder - winger, aged 38 - Harald's younger brother, completing the Axewielder trio. Won't play a lot, though
14 Simon Quier - forward, aged 41 - will be called out of Giant Zucchini's apparently never-ageing league to sit on the bench.
15 Adam Petisha - defensive midfielder, aged 47, the defensive alibi of the team.

The Street is likely to employ a 3-3-3, to be changed to 2-3-4 or 2-4-3 in desperate situations (i.e., a defender getting tired)

Cockbill Street will be placed in a group along with Kaze Progressa, a fearsome Masters side due to tons of experience in the World Cup and their best period being about 15-20 years ago, Svecia, a team which is an outsider to a finals place, Starblaydia, who have no players older than 35, and Finrods, a nation closely allied to the secretive Lovisans.

International Retirement? You lying b*****ds!

Fresh from calling time on their International Careers, some former Starblaydia players have entered themselves as a team for the Krytenian-hosted Masters Football Tournament. The ten-man squad, who must have youth on their side, if anything, is as follows:

Boaz Myhill, 36, GK
Experience: WCQ15, WCQ16, CoH15, IRC1, AOCAF2
Record International Cap holder and Starblaydia's Number 1 up until retirement after the World Cup 16 Qualifiers.

Ryan Garry, 36, Defender (Captain)
Experience: WCQ15, WCQ16, CoH15, IRC1
An automatic international captain for his whole career, left-footed Garry is one of Starblaydia's legends.

Matthew Kilgallon, 35, Defender
Experience: WCQ15, WCQ16, CoH15
Cool, calm and collected, Kilgallon is a cultured centre-back

Stephen Asante, 35, Defender
Experience: WCQ15, CoH15, AOCAF2
Not a man to anny, as Stephen's disciplinary record shows.

Tim Deacy, 35, Midfielder/GK
Experience: WCQ15, AOCAF2
Really a 'keeper but employed to fill out the midfield, Deacy will be useful if Myhill hurts himself.

Matthew Young, 36, Midfielder
Experience: WCQ15, AOCAF2
An all-round midfielder who has been the back-up for squads since Starblaydia began competing

Enrico Bigon, 35, Midfielder
Experience: WCQ15, CoH15, AOCAF2
The first Starblaydi to play abroad, Enrico moved to Kingsford side Elders after the WC15.

Charlie Lambert, 48, Midfielder
Experience: None (Played before Starblaydia entered the KPB rankings)

Guylain N'Dumbu-Nsungu, 36, Forward
Experience: WCQ15, CoH15, AOCAF2
Big, strong and powerful, Guy is a hulking brute of a stiker with 4 international goals.

Colin Miles, 43, Forward
Experience: None (Played before Starblaydia entered the KPB rankings)

Reposting w/mods...

18 - GK Proximus Excipelo (35, Nidola FC) - The veteran keeper for the League's runner-up team, he is expected to be named to the WC17 Roster as a mentor to 22-year-old Melet Bælükas.

15 - DF Longaevus Aluta (37, Chalybs) - Another player likely to make the WC squad as a reserve, he is retiring after this year's tournaments.

3 - DF Trodor Pervica (41) - Retired 3 years ago after one of the greatest careers by a defenseman in Aquilianian history.

40 - MD Gry Ingenii (38, Nova Malta) - Has played 15 years at the top level without losing more than a couple of steps. He's still one of the top 10 midfielders in the country.

13 - MD Clunes Clipeus (44) - Won the scoring title 10 years ago, and while he may not be in great condition, still has a great set of skills.

10 - ST Salve Maria (42) - Now working as commissioner of the League, he's returning for one last competition before he goes to full-time business.

00 - ST Ranius Pertica (43) - Was forced to retire at 31 with a torn ACL. In those days, the surgery was career-ending, but 12 years later he feels better than ever.

5 - DF Amaracus Trucidatio (40) - He was the most physical player in League history, and is a menace to any team at 107 kg.

50 - MD Senectus Immanis (49) - He certainly doesn't play as well as he did when he was 23, but still plays every tournament he can to keep in shape.

23 - ST Complures Peritias (45) - His speed was his greatest asset, but due to his age, he doesn't have the skills to start for this squad. Unfortunately, due to the rule changes he will have to anyway.

Audioslavia
14-08-2004, 18:12
1: GK: Andy Davies, 48 years old
Ginger and slow, but one of the better Audioslavian goalkeepers of recent times in terms of technique. Played in most of Audioslavia's World Cup 9 matches but was a reserve in world cup 10 behind Matty Pedder.

2: DF: Lee Branson, 46
For twelve years Lee Branson captained the Audioslavian team, between world cups 9 and 12 he was a regular in the side, as well as managing it in World Cup 12, taking his team beyond the second round for the first time and on to the final. Old age made him give way to young prodigy Ben Pearce in world cup 13, and some questionable decisions made Lee resign from the managerial position three games into World Cup 15. Lee finished his playing career at Melmondian high-flyers Melmond City Blues.

3: MF: Sean Jenneson, 37
A late starter in the 'slaves team, Sean broke through into the national squad at 29, just in time for the 'slaves World Cup 13 campaign. Jenneson was a mainstay throughout the tournament until the second round match-up with Spaam which he missed due to a shoulder injury. Audioslavia lost the game 2-1, and Sean would never play another game in an Audioslavia jersey. Another Holloden player, Jenneson retired from the game three years ago, and now runs a pub in Holloden.

4: DF: James Reid, 36
Until recently James was a mainstay at the back for Audioslavia before losing his place to young Jens Rep. James retired from international football after the 'slaves crashed out of WC15. A Holloden F.C. player all his life, Reid looks like going on to be a pundit for Channel One.

5: MF: Nicky Shearer, 46
Vice captain to Lee Branson in the WC9-12 period, Nicky is another survivor of the World Cup 11 TnUInsurrection. The Phoenix player retired at the end of World Cup 12 and now works abroard.

6: CF: Aaron O`Malley, 37
For years the star-striker/pin-up boy of Audioslavian football, O`Malley's career started stumbling after his goals put the 'slaves in the WC12 final. His partnering with newly-zombified Jonny Willow is thought to be the problem behind his troubles, as well as the pressure that came with his 3.5million quid move to Giant Zucchinian football. O`Malley was in Audioslavia's WC15 squad, but failed to make a proper impact despite two match-winning goals in the qualifiers. O`Malley has now retired from international football to concentrate on his Giant Zucchinian team.

7: DF: Freddy Winters, 52
Substitute right-back for the 'slaves in World Cup Seven, came on to score a header against Liverpool England in the first round but never made too much of an impact in the national side. Freddy is now a door-to-door salesman.

8: CF: Wayne Bury, 44
'The Wise Man' Wayne Bury (a double-edged compliment if anything, as the maestro striker he partnered, Jonny Willow, had the nickname 'Morcambe') was a formidable figure up front for Audioslavia between World cups 9 and 11, before losing his place to a certain Aaron O`Malley. Another survivor of the TnUInsurrection, Wayne now plies his trade as a painter.

9: MF: Bambang Pinto, 39
The defender got his debut for the slaves during World Cup 11, after the TnUFBI had taken out most of Audioslavia's squad. Although born in Tanah Burung, Bambang is the illegitamate child of an Audioslavian football fan. Bambang always dreamt of being a footballer just like his dad, whose name he was brought up to believe was '10 Second Charlie'. Bambang won only one cap for Audioslavia, but won the hearts of millions back home

10: CF: Clyde Dunhill, 50
Played for the 'slaves in World Cup 8 as a striker, but soon gave way in the national side to messrs Willow and Bury.

Obviously one (the second) will be forced to play in the field, as with Blade's Second Goalkeeper. It's either that or only have 9 players, as those are the only 10 over-35's I have :)

The Bedistan Senior Lions

The team that took Bedistan to the World Cup Final in WC8 is back! Though these players are by far the oldest in the Masters (that we've seen so far, anyway), they've all managed to keep their skills strong playing in Bedistan's amateur over-50 and over-65 national leagues. With the exception of the 67-year-old Richard Weiss, who suffered a hip injury about two weeks ago, this is the full starting lineup used in World Cup 8 thirty-two years ago.

Defenders
19. Laura Johnson (age 64, Graceville O50s)
22. Mike Thomas (age 66, Columbia O65s)
27. Mary Nelson (age 58, Hampton O50s)

Midfielders
1. Ken Sierra (age 63, Albany-Ilium O50s)
15. Sally Myers (age 66, Graceville O65s)
26. Phil Rivera (age 61, Port Lusambo O50s)
32. Claire Briscoe (age 55, High Mountain O50s)

Forwards
8. Johnny Lewis (age 66, Columbia O65s, former Bedistan national team manager)

Falcons Win! Falcons Win!

In quite a shocker, Aquiliana defeated Vilita in tonight's Masters mtach by a score of 4-2. Not many people expected the Falcons to do much in this tournament, given that their national team is not even ranked.

The game started off quick-paced, as both teams were able to generate a lot of shots, but the smaller goal proved to require some technique adjustment, as neither team scored until O'Toole put in a long shot at 5 minutes. However, Aquiliana came storming back with some very physical play and in the 7th minute, Clipeus got so close that to not score would be impossible or very stupid, and the halftime score was 1-1.

The teams remained equal at the beginning of the second half, but in the 10th minute, Price went down hard and came up favoring his left knee. Vilita would never be the same as Pertica came up with 2 more goals, and Maria closed out the game with the 4th. Vilita made a valiant effort near the end, but Excipelo showed why he should be on the national team, stopping 5 of 6 shots in the last 2 minutes, only allowing a rebound off the endboards for Camacho to put away.

Final Score:
Vilita 2 - 4 Aquiliana
(O'Toole 5, Camacho 15) - (Clipeus 7, Pertica 11, 12, Maria 14)

Senior Cats Ring Changes

Port Hall Centre, Remires, Krytenia-------Following the 4-2 defeat to Fellow Atlantian Oceanian's Aquiliana, The Vilitan Senior Cats look set to make wholesale changes to their starting lineup. Defender Mark Price is likely to miss the rest of the tournament due to the knee injury he sufferred in the Senior Cats opening match defeat. Permission has not yet been granted by Masters officials, but Vilita hope to have Utility Player Riccoi Mani, formerly of Marine Coast United, now 39 years old, cleared to fill the 10th roster place in Price's absense. Goalkeeper Jutaoi Linuao has been re-registered as a Defensive Midfielder, and will swap in regularly with Mataak Otieno, but now will not be eligible to play in net while Rory Issah is still healthy.

------------Vilita Midfielder Baron O'Toole, the Player- Manager of Marine Coast United in the Vilitan Stellar Division, Opened the scoring 5 minutes in to become the first recorded goalscorer in Masters History. From there it was Downhill for the Senior Cats, who conceded four straight goals, and lost Price before Alikki-Corra FC Player-Manager Julio Camacho scored a late consolation with just one minute to play. Vilita now look to re-group and take points from their remaining four matches en route to a place in the next round of the competition.

------------The Senior Cats will be up next against the tournament hosts, the Senior Celestials of Krytenia. Krytenia will be tough to overcome, and will be motivated to find victory after they too were downed 4-2 in their first match, although to the much more respected Bedistan team. The Senior Cats would like to Start with a lineup that would see Rory Issah in goal, Ekelim Cairns in Defense, Riccoi Mani in Attacking-Defense, Baron O'Toole and Lee Bruce in Midfield and Julio Camacho as the Target Man. However, if Mani is not cleared to play in the next match, it is likely that Cairns will switch to the Attacking-Defensive Role with Kenter Surf playing the role of the Full Defender.

Final Score:
------------Vilita 2 - 4 Aquiliana
(O'Toole 5, Camacho 15) - (Clipeus 7, Pertica 11, 12, Maria 14)

Turori Masters Roster and News

Gisterfred Q. Disterfred (GK) 35
------------------------G.Q Disterfred has been Turori National Team Manager since midway through the World Cup 15 Qualifiers. He has twice led the team within one game of the World Cup Finals, and now looks to re-prove his ability ON the field. He also plays in the Vilitan League, formerly Player/Manager of FC Almintora, he now plays for Kionao Locals, one of 3 Turori-Based teams in the Vilitan Stellar Division

Oswaldo Alegre (D) 70
------------------------Oswaldo Alegre has made 1 career International Appearance for the Eels after being used in a trial by performance system looking to recruit Defensive-Minded players to the Turori National Team during World Cup 16. Alegre, a product of an artificially inceminated Kingsfordite, Answered the Call and had his moment of fame before other Trialists, like Martika Ecspo and Rikko Ambama were eventually given the full-time roles

Lled Maratoa (M) 42
------------------------Lled Maratoa never got the chance to compete international for the Turori Eels, as by the time the FA was formed he was too old to be considered. However, He snapped at the chance when he heard his Nation was sending a team to the Masters Tournament in nearby Krytenia, and has duelly earned his place in the starting lineup. Despite is lack of International Experience, Lled is one of the most technically talented players in the entire Turori Squad and could very well be the difference in The Senieels Campaign.

Mauritus Banda (F) 37
------------------------Maritus Banda has recently been named Turori u21 Head Coach for the upcoming Fifth World Cup Under-21 Championships. Banda is the older brother of Vilita Jungle Cats All-Time top scorer Callum Banda, a title the elder Banda held with Turori, for whom he qualified through the pairs grandmother, until passed by Akamoari Liano during the World Cup 16 Qualifiers. Banda's International performance was almost legendary as he captained the Eels to Silverware in their first ever competion, the Pre-15 Baptism Of Fire Cup. The legend continued as the Banda-led Eels lost just 2 matches in their World Cup 15 Qualifying campaign, before a draw on the final matchday left them 1 point out of the World Cup Finals in the first attempt

A wella wella wella HUH!
Four-twoitious victory for 'slave OAPs

Goals from Wayne Bury, Aaron O`Malley (2) and Nicky Shearer gave the Audioslavia over-35s a 4-2 win over Wella yesterday.

1-0 down after a few minutes, the 'slaves rallied to produce two goals for Aaron O`Malley before Wayne Bury grabbed one with two minutes left on the clock. Wella scored again shortly, but a last-second on-the-feckin-hooter goal by Nicky Shearer gave Audioslavia's OAP's their first win of the Masters Cup

Tell me more, tell me more, will you get very far?

In other news, Starblaydia played Kaze Progressa in their first Masters Match and lost 3-2, despite a well taken N'dumbu-Nsungu goal after he chested down a high pass, as well as an Enrico Bigon goal, which may be the first time he's ever put the ball in the net during a professional football match.

We're checking our records, but he never scored for Peningworth United, nor for his country at senior International level and though we don't have the figures for his time at Kingsford club Elders, we believe it may be his first ever goal. And he's 35. Great.

The only other time Starblaydia have played Kaze Progressa was in the 3rd Under-21 World Cup, where Starblaydia won 4-3, with goals from Olaf Vikerman, Ricky Torino, Simeone Di Bradini and Moses Brown to record Starblaydia's first win in any international football tournament.

There may be hope...

The Aquiliana Masters Team came away from Tuesday's game with yet another positive result: a 2-2 draw with favored The Belmore Family.

3 minutes went by without much action, but the Belmorians were the first to get hot. Their mids and forwards began dribbling through the Falcon defense, and 4 minutes in, they had their first goal.

But the Aquil team came storming back, and just a couple minutes later, Aluta was left open just above midfield, putting in a beautiful shot that bent in, bounced off the corner of the post, and fell into the goal.

But Belmore wasn't through yet. Only 30 seconds before the half would end, a defenseman put together a beautiful pass off the wall to a streaking striker, who easily put away the goal to lead the game.

The second half didn't see quite as much action, as the defenses were very strong throughout the period. But with only a minute remaining, Ingenii was able to break free and rush straight to goal, only to be taken down just outside the box. The Belmore keeper was able to deflect the free kick, but wasn't able to stop Peritias from putting away the rebound that would keep the game tied.

Old Boys turn up the heat
Svecia get out of the kitchen to avoid N'Dumbu-Nsungu

Guylain N'Dumbu-Nsungu rolled back the years as he smashed two goals past Svecia to take the lead and give Starblaydia three points.

Guylain scored first, then Svecia got two back, before Ryan Garry equalised and Guylain put the Old Blades (or the'Rusty' Blades, as they were called by the more witty Progressa fans) in front to win 3-2. The next match is against Finrods, with a much-needed rest match before the final Northern Group game against Cockbill Street.

A 5-5 draw with Finrods and a 3-2 loss to Starbladia have been received by the team as "very good results" in the words of Francisco Carati. They could be considered good results since the team is missing their starting goalkeeper in Matt de Fijts, who is with the Svecikan national team in Rejistania, coaching in the World Cup.
