Ships of the Robotic Galactic Flotilla

I thought that I should make a thread that tells about my fleet inventory, for the record.

Each Robotic Galactic Flotilla Fleet is equipped to perform a multitude of missions, mostly combat but with science and exploration as secondary tasks.

Each fleet consists of:

10 Slowhand class line cruisers
2 hospitalcruisers
100 Line Frigates
100 Missile Frigates
100 Drone Frigates
15 Robert Johnson class gunboats

Line Cruisers

Designed to be the primary RGF fighting ship, the Line Cruiser generally combines speed, manouverability, and firepower into a relatively small (1.5km) package. The newest class, the Slowhand class, is a deviation from this regular template.

It is very heavily armored and shielded, and therefore can take a lot of fire and still continue to fight. It is also more heavily armed than usual, carrying six antimatter cannons as primary anti-capital ship armement, mounted over the frontal arc. The class also carries many smaller ion cannons, for engaging smaller ships, and a comprehensive point defense system for engaging torpedos and fighters. The Slowhand class is considered by many to be the best vessel produced by the LRR government armory to date.

The Slowhand class is extremely fast, but not very manouverable at speed. Each ship carries a crew of 120, as well as several AIs to help run the ship's systems. A large ventral bay is included, which houses the ship's corvettes and mining vessels, and can actually fit a frigate internally for repairs. Several frigates can be repaired at one time externally by the ship's mining vessels.

Science/Hospital Ships

The David Byrne class is a variation of the Slowhand template, which replaces all the weapons systems, besides point defense and shields, with a 4,500-capacity medical facility.

Line Frigates

The Aqualung class line frigate is a 450-meter vessel that might be described as a scaled-down version of the Slowhand class. It is armed with ion cannons and PD systems, and is meant as a smaller combat vessel with lower repair costs and the same performance (proportionally) as the larger combat ships. The majority of line frigates are unattached to fleets, and employed in exploratory, scientific, and other tasks that do not necessitate an entire fleet but where a capable and strong ship is an asset.

Missile Frigates

The Keith Moon class missile frigate is a lightly armored, fast, manouverable vessel of 350 meters designed to be a light combat vessel, with high firepower in the form of 10,000 missiles stored in the foreward compartments, which can be shot out in as little as one minute at the maximum firing rate. The missiles are usually of the anti-capital ship variety, and give missile barrages a little bit more oomph, more than they would have if it was just the cruisers firing.

Anti-fighter and anti-torpedo missiles are held on pods on the sides of the hull, and flak cannons are included as a deterrant to fighters and torpedos. The crew of 10 is confined to the rear of the ship, as the foreward areas are packed with missiles. If a Keith Moon is hit before it empties its missile load, things can be quite dangerous for ships in the vicinity.

Drone Frigates

The Drone Frigate is perhaps one of the most innovative RGF ship types. Existing solely as an escort vessel, the Drone Frigate can launch and retreive a total of 36 drones, each one armed with a high-power ion cannon. In combat, these drones are deployed in a sphere around the frigate, corresponding to the limit of the frigate's shield.

The drones can swivel and track almost anything, and are a powerful anti-fighter and anti-missile weapon. The only major drawback to the design is the fact that the drones, while able to track faster than anything else, are left exposed to enemy fire, should it breech the shields.

Gunboats

Gunboats are platforms for heavy plasma cannons, used to bombard enemy fleets from afar. The Robert Johnson class measures 600 meters in length, and is armed with two heavy plasma cannons (think seige cannon, Homeworld fans), with the range for the ship to stay well outside the fray and still deliver devestating fire upon enemy ships.

But the Gunboat is left exposed by the fact that its heavy guns take up much of the ship's power reserves. Therefore, there are few PD systems, and while the ship's armor is heavy, its shields are not. The gunboat is actually a somewhat obsolete design, but is valuable because it can operate inside many atmospheres and is therefore a good fire support platform for planetary infantry.

The RGF operates a total of 25 fleets, and has thousands of unattached ships, mostly freighters, line frigates, and mobile shipyards.

Any comments?

Fighters

The RGF operates wings of 75 fighters from Line Cruisers, mostly the Hurricane III, which is an excellent fighter. They are used in support of the cruiser, to attack bombers and enemy fighters.

Wow.........lotta letters.

And I still can't believe you got rid of the Luis Borges! Those ships rocked!

Well, there still are a couple in the frigate force. There's actually no one class that forms the LRR frigate force. There are tons of different ships.

And I think I'm gonna get rid of the fleet organization system. So I guess this thread is moot as far as fleet reorganization goes. But it does provide an interesting LRR tech reference.
