ASIC Scarab, 2'nd System Fleet, Regulus
The ASIC Scarab streamed through the Void, it's various sensors probing for the tell-tale sign of an approaching invasion or secret smuggler. Of course, with the sheer mind boggling size of space, even within a single Stellar System, the odds of finding any unwanted intruders weren't even worth calculating. These patrols were a mere formality, designed to sooth the populace who feared invasion and still remembered the days of the Draconian-Rossian Alliance with terror.
Unfortunately, the odds can often be thwarted by pure dumb luck. Or the lack of luck, depending on your viewpoint. Because when the massive Fleet simply popped into the system the Scarab was right there waiting for it, outnumbered and outgunned by a ridiculous degree.
"Shit," Goes the Captain.
"Shit," Seconds the First Officer
"Shit," adds the Navigations Officer
"Anybody got a spare pair of pants?" finishes the Weapons Officer.
The Scarab, in an almost comedic maneuver, quickly turns around blasts towards the interior of the system. A lone Interception Cruiser might not be able to do much against a Fleet of that size, but the 2'nd System Fleet of the Associated Systems was another matter entirely.
