This is the OOC thread for the foundation of Klatch RP. If you are interested in joining you can make yourself known here. Just remember the year is 1799, no 10 million man armies, no tanks, no planes no machine guns.

This is the Organisational Structure of the Djel Kingdom's Army

Infantry
1 File = 10 Men led by a Corporal
1 Half Company = 3 Files led by a Sergeant, there is also an Ensign for each half company.
1 Company = 2 Half Companies, led by a Captain. Each Company also has a Lieutenant and a Company Sergeant Major.
1 Batallion = 10 Companies, led by a Colonel or Lieutenant Colonel. Each Batallion also has 2 Majors and 1 Regimental Sergeant Major. A Normal Batallion will have 2 Companies of "Cazadores" and 8 Companies of Regulars. An 'Elite' Batallion will have 2 Companies of "Cazadores", 2 Companies of Grenadiers and 6 Companies of Regulars. All Batallions also carry the regimental colours and have a regimental band.
1 Regiment = 2 Batallions Usually one Batallion will remain at base, training and recruiting while the other is in the field. However, in periods of invasion whole Regiments may be fielded. It is led by the same man who leads the Batallion.
1 Brigade = 3 Regiments/Batallions led by a Brigadier.
1 Division = 4 Infantry Brigades, usually a Brigade or more of Calvalry and an unspecified number of guns. Led by a Major General.
1 Corps = 5 Divisions. Led by a Lieutenant General. Each Corp contains one Division of 'Elites'.

There are 5 Corps in Total. All are under the Command of the country's only full General, General Reton Hinoalos.

This means the Djel Kingdom will usually field 176,000 Infantry, but at a pinch can double that number.

Calvalry
1 Troop = 10 Hussars, 15 Dragoons, 25 Cuirassiers, 35 Lances or 35 Guard. It is Commanded by a Corporal or Lance Corporal in a Guard Unit.
1 Squadron = 4 Troops commanded by a Lieutenant or Corporal of the Guard in a Guard Unit.
1 Wing = 4 Squadrons commanded by a Major or Captain.
1 Batallion = 3 Wings. It is Commanded by a Colonel or Lieutenant Colonel. It also has a Regimental Sergeant Major. Each Batallion has a Regimental band and Colours party. Similar to the Infantry.
1 Regiment = 2 Batallions (read infantry note to understand this.)

In total there are:
20 Batallions of Hussars - 11,840 Horsemen.
7 Batallions of Dragoons - 5,824 Horsemen.
2 Batallions of Cuirassiers - 2,624 Horsemen.
1 Batallion of Lances - 1,792 Horsemen.
1 Batallion of Horse Guard - 1,792 Horsemen.

In a similar manner to the infantry, this may be doubled in times of crisis by deploying whole regiments.

Artillery
Dyelli Beybi has in the field;
20 24 pound cannons.
70 12 pound cannons.
100 8 pound cannons.
40 6 pound cannons.
10 12 pound howitzers.
20 6 pound howitzers.
20 12 pound mortars.
20 6 pound mortars.

In excess to this;
York houses 30 12 pound cannons.
Welles houses 40 12 pound cannons.
Bath houses 40 12 pound cannons and 40 8 pound cannons.
Cyro houses 10 12 pound cannons and 20 4 pound cannons.
St Guinefords houses 40 12 pound cannos.
Jesuitlem houses 20 12 pound cannons and 20 8 pound cannons.

10 guns = 1 Battery
On average there are 10 men per gun commanded by a Sergeant with a Corporal to assist. Each Battery is Commanded by a Captain.
In total there are 560 guns with 5,656 crewmen. There are no guns or crewmen in reserve.

Is there a historical map in the process? I'm thinking of getting involved, not with my whole military or anything (which would be thousands of kilometers away), but with a trade fleet or something making stops at major ports and maybe getting caught up in the action, accidental-like.

Something seems very familiar about those uniforms..... Should I perhaps be using pale blue with white trousers?

Basically it's very similar to the existing Klatch map. Shrink Vrak (I'm guessing up to the peninsula but you'll have to ask Vrak). Dyelli Beybi is basically T shaped. It runs up the river and along the coast. The Empire in the Gonad is basically where Jiggardy is except it doesn't extend to as many of the islands in the South.

Hmmm. Most likely, I would be occupying the coastal areas and quite a ways south. But, let's say that the Nef area and south to Dyelli's borders is still wild. I like occupying the northern areas of present day Vrak since the walruses came from over the polar caps and had their interactions with the Polar and Orcas in what now is basically uninhabitated lands of the Klatch. In some ways, present day Vrak is very "south" on the point of the view of the walruses. Some of their human allies and friends I've drawn from Inuit and Eskimo examples.

If you want, Santa, we could do something like this; you and I have some form of trade contact but we would view your lands as "very far away". That is, reachable by sea but would take months or even years. Perhaps early Vrakian corporate organization borrowed a few ideas from Santa Barbara? :)

Hmm, that would work. I wouldn't say it'd take years, maybe just 3 and a half to 4 months.

And yeah, the whole tusk-goring aspect of Vrakian business does remind me of Santa Barbaran corporate politics... although without the tusks. And probably the goring too. Heh. But we started very early with corporations so thats definitely possible.

DB's uniforms are identical to those he has painted his 1820s south american hypothetical wargames models in. Mine are, you guessed it, pale blue with white pants. they look very stylish, especially as all officers are in dess white with scarlet sashes and gold braid.

Brief previous history of the Domain: After over a millenium of first inter-kingdom and then human vs. dwarf warfare, NW Liang has finally been completely united. As a form of showing off, expanding military might, and making colonies, the huge Grand Fleet, whose 450 foot long behemoth longkausi (dragonships) make up the backbone of the fleet.
Now, unknowingly, they have stumbled upon a warring Klatchian Coast.

Uniforms are typically sky blue with red helmets.

Current Liangite military tactics:

The ~40,000 additional troops on the Grand Fleet are a mixture of cavalry, infantry, and of course artillery.

As Liangite tactics were mostly focused on cracking open and exploiting elite infantry squares, the cavalry and artillery are the prestigious, elite services, with the infantry being of less quality.
Infantry are armed with a light rifle, with a special bayonet known as a sarido. The sarido is a long, curved bayonet, used in a slashing maneuver in hand-to-hand combat. Infantry use concentrated volleys, in concert with artillery and cavalry volleys, to break and shatter enemy formations, which a cavalry charge then exploits. In a pinch, an infantry charge may be employed.

The most honorable position on the battlefield is to be charging in the cavalry in that critical moment. Gaps formed by artillery barrages are exploited by repeated squadron charges, and when a wide enough weakness is found, a full-out charge. In a pinch, cavalry can deliver pistol volleys. Most cavalry are armed with sabers, though some may have rifles. A larger percentage of cavalry is found in Liangite armies than is usual.

The artillery of the Grand Fleet is used to create large gaps in enemy formations, breaking them apart and weakening them so the cavalry can deliver the deathblow.

Haven't finalized the organization yet, might come soon.

Uniform: Infantry wear Medium green Jackets with white shirt and crossbelts and charcoal pants. headwear is a bell shako with a regimetal plume. Officers have braid.
Cavalry wear yellowy tan tunics, charcoal pants and cloaks or pelises that vary in design with regiment. helmets are very ornate.
The green is farely pale, sort of like lightish tree leaves.
Artillery and navy wear charcoal pants and pale grey shirts and jackets, except the officers who wear hornblower like blue sea uniforms.

Liang you might want to consider giving the majority of troops muskets. They're less accurate but much faster firing meaning they tend to be better in most situations bar skirmishing....

Well being as we're talking about tactics...

Dyelli Beybians naturally regard their Calvalry as more 'honourable' than their infantry, and they tend to be made up of wealthier individuals (who can afford the horse) however on the battlefield the infantry tend to play the dominant role, while the calvalry tend to be somewhat unruly and have been known to charge without orders and often succeed in overextending themselves.
Infantry generally are high quality and well drilled at rapidly collapsing their formation into a square and are relatively steady under fire. The usual tactic is to position Regulars in a line of battle with Calvalry on the flanks and 'Cazadores' (Riflemen) providing a screen in front. Some units of calvalry will also usually be positioned between infantry units to chase off enemy skirmishers. When there is a lack of enemy artillery, the Dyellians will often opt to attack in column rather than line.

Uniforms and Equipment
Regulars: Red knee length double breasted jacket with blue trousers. White webbing, black boots and caps. Brass badge on cap denotes unit. High ranking officers have silver epaulets while all have a silver cap band.
Soldiers carry a musket and a bayonet. Officers carry a sabre.
Marines:Identical to regulars except carry a carbine.
Cazadores: Blue knee length double breasted jacket with red trousers. White webbing, black boots and caps. Brass badge on cap denotes unit. High ranking officers have silver epaulets while all have a silver cap band.
Soldiers carry a rifle and a sword-bayonet. Officers carry a sabre and usually a rifle as well.
Grenadiers: blue tailed jacket with white fronting and white trousers. White webbing, black knee high boots and black, highly decorated bell shako. Trimming on sleeves denotes unit. Officers have gold epaulets.
Soldiers carry a musket, bayonet and grenades. Officers carry a sabre.

Hussars: Pale blue overalls with white frogging, pelise in similar colours. Black shako with feather to denote rank and unit. Black knee high boots. Officers have a bigger feather.
Soldiers carry a curved Hussar's sabre and one or two have stolen carbines from the dragoons.
Dragoons: Pure white overalls with pale blue webbing. Officers wear a red sash. Black knee high boots and black bicorn hat. Feather again denotes rank and unit.
Soldiers carry a straight edged sabre (similar to infantry officers) and a carbine.
Cuirassiers: Red overalls, black knee high boots. Cuirass and helmet with black horsehair. Gold epaulets worn by officers.
Troopers carry a straight edged sabre or occasionally a lance.
Lancers: Green trousers and jacket with yellow waistcoat. Red stripe on trousers. Black bell shako. Officers have gold epaulets.
Carry a lance.
Guard: Look much like mounted Regulars, except with a shorted coat, less webbing and a black bicorn instead of a cap.
Carry a sabre, a few units also carry carbines.

Artillery: Blue jacket with gold frogging and grey trousers. Black boots and raupe helmet. Officers have gold braid.

I only have three frigates I intend to be using in this, unless a long time such as years go by. These are really explorative vessels since no one from SB has gone to this region before... or at least never came back. So we only have rumors about the ice-things (Vrakian talking walruses!) and know that there are human nations somewhere out here.

They're not particularly well armed, but they've got lots of goods and gold. Hmmm...

Anyway, if we meet any Vrakians, it will be awkward since a majority of the crew are Catholics and will not believe Vrakians to have souls or sentience, and will either freak out or reach for the nearest weapon or both. Victorio (the captain of the main ship) will be more understanding but... hmm well it'll be interesting.

Ah, you will be meeting an all-human crew. I'll have to start digging around for some background research here.
