Klonor

George Shemls, Representative from H-Epsilon Pegasi in the Klonor Assembly, stared across his desk at the hologram of the Duke. His mouth was gaping open, as he knew the rest of the representatives must be doing as well. The entire Klonor Assembly was staring bug-eyed at their respective screens, shock barely even registering on their faces. Or rather, the former Klonor Assembly stared bug-eyed. For the name must be changed soon, since it was no longer solely a Klonor organization. Guanyu had burst inside the formerly exclusive club.
R. Shemls, for one, refused to simply stand by and accept it.
"Sir, is there no way to prevent it? There must be some loophole! Don't the Representatives need to be Klonor citizens, or reside in a Klonor colony?"
"Technically they are Klonor citizens. Tau Ceti has been a Klonor system since before SR-2091 was even dreamed, the people born there were born on Klonor soil. They're legal. I've checked into it."
"Well.......what about national security? Surely we can't allow people from foreign lands to reside beside us in the Association!"
"Lest you forget, Representative, I am from a "foreign land." Unles you claim that we rule the Sol system."
"No, sir. But.......but........"
"But nothing. You know the Association Constitution as well as any man. Every Inhabited Planet gets a Representative in the Klonor Assembly, and every System gets a member in the Executive Office. That's the law. Unless suddenly non-humans aren't worthy of being granted the same rights we are. I'm sure your neighbors in Epsilon Pegasi would be very interested in your thoughts on the matter."
Shemls blanched at that, the horror of the brief but violent Human/Elven Civil War still fresh in his mind. Epsilon Pegasi was still recovering from it.
"No, no, of course not. But........but.........but....."
"Oh, do not start that 'but' thing again. Just be thankful there's only 3.5 million Guanyans in Tau Ceti and they only get 3 Seats in the People's Assembly. They'll still be outnumbered several thousand to one."
"Yeah.....well........"
"Oh just shut up already! Doesn't anybody else have something to say?"
The rest of the Assembly was deathly quiet, none quite sure what to say. Throughout all the history of Klonor, from the struggling Duchy back on Old Earth, to the first colonies in Deneb, Regulus, and Epsilon Pegasi, to the Klonor Empire, even onto the shattered nation that had existed for the past several decades, Klonor had always ruled itself. Never had a foreign nation had a say in the leadership of the proud Nation. The Assembly just didn't know what to say.
"So, it's settled then. We'll need to send a transmission to Tau Ceti, they need to elect their leaders."
