War Questions....

I think I've asked this before here at the 'Gameplay' forum, but I want to find out more. I've read the stickies and everything...is this how you start/end a war?:

You declare a war on a country because of some reason, and state it in the 'International Incidents' section or you notify the country you want to declare war on via telegram. Then, you communicate between posts telling the country what you have done??? They choose to ignore it??

I'm not sure if the concept of this thing is surely advanced. I want a button feature that allows you to 'Declare War' on a certain country, but it seems you have to play by roleplay rules...free will on the roleplay...meaning you can do anything??

Thank you for answering! But, I think I need more of an explanation. I would like you to explain how do go about doing this and what godmode is....Thanks in advance!

look in the current nationstates war is impossible because the nation you declare war on either ignores, godmods(does things that are totally impossible), and never admits defeat.

99.9% of all wars are ignored, something which is really gay. I mean I dont remeber Churchill sending a telegram to Hitler reading "The great nation of britian sends a formal ignore to you."

theres no fesiable way to do war, i mean if they do a simple system in nationstates 1/2 with numbers there will be no stratgy. plus people arent on all the time to take care of a war.

all in all war is impossible in nationstates.

Read a thread in the NationStates forum or do a search for "Pantera" or "Automagfreek" or "Menelmacar" or "Scolopendra" or "Melkor Unchained." Read their threads.

I believe there's a sticky about godmoding, let me see if I can hook you up with a link.

What you're doing is assuming the role of someone/something and writing a story to accomodate it.

Wrong. Put together two good RPers and you get a good war. Pussy ignorers? People get ignored for cheating, never accepting losses, or doing pretty shitty roleplaying (one line posts like 'I shoot you with tanks' for example).

So, you just come up and choose some country to declare war with, without a purpose??? Or come up with a country that you think has invaded you (even though they haven't)??? Thanks!

Do some non-war RP first. You can declare war on anyone as long as it's an IC (in character) reason.

Why should there be a reason for war? But then I forgot the people on this game think that a reason is needed for everything. WRONG, there has been lots of times in RL were war wars were fought just to gain control over that nation or stretch of earth.

War and trade are not simulated by the NationStates Game Engine. All questions regarding roleplay should go to "NationStates".

iMove http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/images/icons/icon2.gif "NationStates".

That IS a reason, that reason is called "Imperialism".

Okay, my short breakdown, because I'm hungry.

Bad War Style:
A: My tanks attack you.
B: I KILL THEM ALL!
A: NO YUO DONT!
B: Y3S i D0
A: I INGORE YUO

Numbers Style: (I don't like this, but, meh.)A: As you storm the beach from the east, I order the 1st Armored to attack from the north, while the 2nd Mobile Infantry sweeps from the south, and the 7th Artillery keeps you from advancing with constant 120mm and Vought MLRS barrages.

The First Armored contains:
-500 M1A1 Abrams MBT
-700 M2A3 Bradley IFV
-2000 Support Crews in:
---100 HMMWV
....so on and so forth

B: I take losses in my Panzergrenadier units, but Fallschirmjaeger units are now landing behind your lines. Moving slowly, the Second begins to close on the 7th Artillery.

The Second Fallschirmjaeger Unit Contains:
-2000 Paratroopers armed with:
---1500 G11A1 Sturmgewehr
---6000 Mk23 Steilhandgranate
---500 Panzerfaust 120s
....and so on...

[i]This style is respectable, it's hard to read or play without intrinsic knowledge of the weapons and logistics of a real life military, and is not commonly seen.

Story Style: My favorite!
A: The maps were spread over the briefing room tables, and soldiers milled about the room, abuzz with the rapid flow of information. The war was not going well, and it showed in the gaunt and weary looks that flashed from soldier to soldier, or in the amount of alcohol bottles emptied in the officers quarters, or in the fact that even the Commissars had stopped complaining about "defeatist talk". The room shook again as another mortar round struck the bunker, and the air sirens wailed above.

In the flickering lights and shaking floor, Colonel Banks stumbled down the short gangway, gripping the rail with white knuckles. The barrage ended, and the lights returned, soldiers watching the ceiling as dust drifted down. Banks reached out to touch the cord bracelet on his arm, thinking of that place, so long ago, where he had... etcetera en etcetera

This style is the "most respected" in NS, IMHO. Done well, it's the easiest to read, has solid basis, and can be reread later without being dull. It also allows more freedom of RP, as you don't need the in-depth knowledge of RL military to succeed, but you can use it if you have it. In this mode, it's all about the people and their relations... just like a story.

A small amount of self-publicity: An example of Story RP (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=329597)
