"Defcon 2" is a historical RP based around the only time US forces went to Defcon 2- the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. Essentially, we are going to RP it, but we do not have to follow actual events.
Instead of playing their NS countries, players will play one of the RL countries at the time, such as:
US (Brydog)
UK (I'm a Brit, I'm taking this one)
West Germany (Halibris)
East Germany (Me)
Cuba (Draconis Nightcrawlis)
USSR
France (Draconis Nightcrawlis)
Hungary
Italy
Turkey
Greece
(any other countries can be added as you wish)
Other rules:
1. Unless stated otherwise or obviously not secret (use your common sense), everything will be secret IC.
2. All posts will have to have the time in, in both local and GMT time (it is DST at the time, but London time will be treated as GMT).
3. At this time, the hotline does not exist. Members of NATO and France can talk to each other in real time (as can those in the Warsaw Pact), but a telegram sent between Washington and Moscow will take twelve hours to get between them).
4. Note regarding nuclear forces: Most of the US and USSR nuclear forces, and all the British ones are in bombers not ICBMs.
5. Note to the US: All the CORONA spy satellites are over the USSR, not Cuba. You can however get images with U-2 spy planes.
6. We are starting this RP on Tuesday 16 October. The Cuban-based SS-4 missiles will be unfireable until the 27th.
7. Try and avoid godmodding.
8. The aim is to get the other side to back down while not losing face yourself, not to nuke each other.
9. Note to the Sovs: The US has medium-range missiles in Greece and Turkey.
10. Note to everyone: The US President is JFK, Khrushchev's in charge of the USSR and the UK Prime Minister is Harold Macmillian, a Conservative.
