We will welcome its arrival. However, you should probably send it in surfaced for safety reasons.

So, anyone else want in on this?

Yeah, sure! I haven't talked to you in a long time, if ever!

Rowboats will be featured in the review as well. There will probably be quite an assembly of LRRN landing craft, from LCUs to pole barges.

And, fitting with tradition, the great liquor vaults will be opened. Let the ale run in the streets!

We will gladly send Admiral Contadino, CINC 1st Fleet, and member of the Admiralty, as well as three military contractors from the AgCorp Martitme division to represent our nation in this conference. Hopefully we will be able to open diplomatic relations with your nation, and learn a bit about your navy first hand.

Ok!

This looks good. You can RP the entry of your vessels into LRR waters any time. The review will actually be held off the coast, so there's no crowded harbor to worry about. But crews can come ashore at Damogran and sample its many pubs.

The ARSB wonders if it can deploy a few naval vessels to this review. The vessels sent would include two Kasatanov advanced ballistic missile submarines, three state-of-the-art Zlatoslav-class guided missile destroyers, and a single Admiral Vinogradov-class medium assault carrier.

We would send our lone Premier-class super-carrier, the RNS Chlevenkov, but that is currently conducting operations in the south Atlantic.

The large flotilla was already en-route to LRR well before the official diplomatic conveyances had been dispensed with. While the fleet was quite a formidable sight, the signal flags were arranged in such a way to indicate peaceful intent, a detail almost certainly lost on the casual observer.

The ships that would be foremost in the showcase would be the Invictus class Battleships, both types of Arsenal ships, and the various varieties of Catamaran warships.

When the fleet was within contact range a message was sent on open frequency to the LRR ships already in place to identify itself.

Greetings to our hosts. This is the 1st fleet of the Marina Militare d'Agrigento, currently entering your waters. It is indeed a pleasure to be here. Is it not impossible for us to arrange a person-to-person meeting of formal intent, to discuss these proceedings in the interests of diplomatic relations?

The celack pulled out of harbour at Etteradi and turned towards LRR. en-route it was met by it's escort, the Indefatigable. The indefatigable was a Thadsa class destroyer and was chosen for this trip because of valiant actions in the recent actions against hill ville. A telegram is sent to LRR saying

"We wish to send a recently decorated destroyer to escort the Celack to the review and then have the crew take a shore-leave. They will behave like the highly disciplined members of the Celackian navy they are. If they misbehave they will be punished. If they break any laws we will turn them over to you for your law to deal with them. Is this acceptable?"

The Sea of Japan, northbound

Comrade Captain Kim Il-Koshiaro could barely see over the windowsill as the sea gave much pitching to his 1,400ts of Al Khals-built Omar Class frigate, modified and created a Kurosian I Class on arrival in the CPRD a few weeks since. The typically little Drapoel man was considering the breadth of the term, "open" in regards to invites of this nature.

Ah well, all of his 127 officers and men were fully prepared to go down with the ship, should the enemies decide to take advantage of their unescorted approach. The cruise diesels drove the Andong Liberation's twin shafts to give the boat a steady eighteen knot cruise through its coastal voyage from the Najin Unified People's Naval Base, the boost gas turbines never engaging their 42,000shp.

As the frigate drew closer to LRR waters, the Drapoel wheel of life and revolutionary progress was joined over head by a white flag as first experienced by the Drapoel during the recent Crusader and then more recently Unification wars. The 100mm gun, quartet of 30mm cannon, trio of 14.5mm machineguns, dual DRAR-19-SAM mount, ASW mortar, and sextuple Qian Wei anti-ship-missile tubes were all manned so keenly as the Al Khali air-search radar and the sonar as Andong Liberation cruised to an uncertain reception, several compartments crammed with charges sufficient to make doubly sure of any order to scuttle.

To Celack:

Yes, you can send the indefatigable with your fleet. It is always a pleasure to have a decorated ship in the proceedings.

To Agrigento:

A message is relayed back, which reads:

"Yes, that is certainly possible. An LRRAF sea king will come and pick up whoever you decide to send."

The fleet is greeted by an echelon of Spike missile boats and Son House corvettes. Some Nimrods overfly the huge flotilla.

Meanwhile, the Andong Liberation, coming up from the south, is quickly picked up by LRRN radars. A Nimrod flies low over the frigate, and in its wake comes a missile boat squadron (5 boats).

Noticing the flag, the Spikes pull alongside.

"Attention Dra-pol vessel, you are entering LRR waters. But since it appears that you come without malicious intent, welcome. Where are you making for?"
Dra-pol
02-08-2004, 03:43
As the Nimrod flew over, the DRAR-19 SAM made no obvious attempt to acquire a target lock, though the IR-guided weapons might in theory have done so only after launch.

In the end, nothing happened.

The Drapoel frigate indicated its intent to join or at least to observe something of the review, in line with the openess of Kurosite thinking.

The Omar-class frigate (the LRRN doesn't know the Dra-pol designation) is escorted to a point off Damogran by the Spike squadron.

The frigate is greeted with an impressive sight. Hundreds of missile boats, flying their flags high in the wind, stand in neat lines, organized by group. Son House and Howlin' Wolf corvettes lay moored in pairs near the missile boat formations. Surfaced U-214s, Kilos, and Alukas are covered in colorful flags. Quadrophenia class missile frigates are also present en masse, moored in a pair of neat lines.

The centerpiece of the fleet, the Kirov-class missile cruiser Pinball Wizard, sits surrounded by Sovremennys and Krivaks. And this is just the LRRN. The advance elements of the other attending fleets also sit moored, with flags flying. It is quite an impressive display.

The Andong Liberation is escorted to an open mooring in the back of the Quadrophenia line, which offers an excellent view of the assembled ships.

"Such a huge part of the enemy fleet, moored in such tight proximity, and so few thousand kilometres from the Northeast silos." Captain Kim Il-Koshiaro snapped out of his contemplation with a horrid thought, and looked about at the young men and women under his charge. He couldn't help picturing them blotted out in a brilliant white as he'd heard described by his friend, comrade Hozaro.

Kim shook himself from the consideration a second time -it was of the remotest sort, he supposed- and ordered his vessel into its moorings.

Before long, a small, wooden motor launch comes up alongside the frigate, carrying an LRRN captain.

"Permission to come aboard?" calls captain Weissman to the officer of the deck in Korean.

While Drapoel may be significantly different to modern Korean, after centuries of isolation, the crew of a military asset on foreign deployment are amongst those with at least a fleeting familiarity with the modern tongue of the opposition.

Weissman is helped on to the 300ft long 1,400t vessel, amongst the northmost 128 Drapoel on earth. Several of them carry 8mm pistols or sub-machineguns (Drapoel origin weapons born of the Soviet PPSH family), but none are postured in an especially hostile manner by Drapoel standards. The captain approaches down the side of the vessel, having departed the bridge, and greets Weissman with a crisp salute, welcoming him aboard, "The Kurosian I Class Missile Frigate Andong Liberation, East Sea Fleet."
The Tobans

out: I'm in a rather intense rehearsal period right now, but I'll try to post every few days. Consider the Tobans...

In : An extremely ordinary looking DC 9 lands in a restricted area of the Damogran International airport. A debarkation stair is quickly moved to the door and a small group of low level LRR dignitaries and a military band assembles at the base of it.

The door to the DC 9 opens. A large cloud of acrid blue smoke wafts out of the door followed after a brief interval by what looks like several disheveled middle aged glam rockers. The first through the door, a tall emaciated man of indeterminate age wearing a suit Elvis might have opened a Las Vegas act with, stumbles on the first step, missed the next couple of steps, grabs the left side of the railing with both hands, and successfully steadies himself as the band starts to play the Toban national anthem (which sounds remarkably like All the Young Dudes).

The Tobans have arrived.

The leader of the LRR delegation recognizes the tall emaciated man from his briefing as being the Toban Chief of Military Protocol, David Bovie. He ushers the entourage to the waiting limos and, being familiar with Toban customs, brings them to the nearest pub.

"We're hear for the party," said Bovie. "Is this a coronation, or a wedding, or what ?"

Before the LRR delegate could answer, Bovie was sound asleep.

This would not be an easy assignment...

The military band, which had a fair number of electric instruments in it, is definately not one of the more standard pomp-and-circumstance bands. Rather, it is a band well suited to the unique repitoire of LRR anthems.

Bovie is loaded into a jeep and driven out to a set of prefab buildings near the cliffs overlooking the flotilla. He is left in the surprisingly well-furnished structure, stocked with a fair amount of liquor and music, until he wakes up.

Meanwhile, offshore, Weissman turns to face the captain. His english is actually somewhat accented, having been born and raised in Germany.

"It's a pleasure to be aboard, Captain. You have a fine ship here. I have come to inquire as to weather you would be interested in the manouvers we have planned. There is a gunnery range set up on the coast there," he points to a point on the cliffs several miles away, but still in good view of the bleachers, "in case you want to show off your ship's gunnery. There is also a race planned between the frigates, and the winner gets a keg of ale per person aboard."
The Tobans
04-08-2004, 00:30
"Naval Review !", shouted Bovie at the LRR adjutant. " I'm flummoxed ! I thought this was supposed to be a wedding or something. The Tobans is a land locked country. Of course we have a few lakes and some rescue cutters, but we'd have to air lift them to the ocean if we were to join the regatta. I don't think they can handle more then 5 meter waves anyway. No that wouldn't work...

"Oh well. Since we're here, you might as well chopper us out to the ships. I've never been on a battle ship before."

The closest Bovie gets to a battleship is the Kirov missile cruiser Pinball Wizard.

It is quite a sight to see, with all its colorful, pretty flags flapping in the wind. They had really overdone it, and just about every flag aboard the ship was flying, forming a message that, unbeknownst to the somewhat inept crew, reads "Go stick your head in a pig."

Bovie lands on the ship's helipad, which is surprisingly small given the size of the vessel. The Sea King that brought him out is tied down to the pad, looking somewhat out of place in its yellowness.

"Wow, a real Sea King ! How retro.", said Bovie, in his formal fuchsia spandex uniform with blue/green and silver sequins, and matching sun glasses. "The Tobans used to use Sea Kings; I think we decommissioned ours in the early '70s."

Upon arrival on the Pinball Wizard, Bovie's protocol assistant, a large middle aged woman named Ms. Joplin who was dressed in a slightly less gaudy but equally form fitting outfit, pointed at the brightly coloured flags.

"Excellent ! Luau !" exclaimed Bovie, confusing the LRR adjutant. "Do you keep Bacardi on board ?"

I mean were going to get together with the other captains, right ? We're not just going to sail around waving at each other, eh ? I mean if we get all the pooh-bahs together, then at least we can pretend the party serves some higher diplomatic purpose, right ? OOC: Not previously, but i think that WA will be adding a second small nonnuclear attack sub to it's fleets. Ummm, can we order 2-300? (probably more like 140).

IC: After sailing for a little under a week, the Western Asian show fleet was outside of LRR waters, just opposite the port. This would be the first time that some of these vessels were ever seen publicly outside of Western Asia. The IDF Naval Corps had sent an array of vessels: a medium carrier, two shore bombardment-oriented heavy ships, a destroyer and a frigate for general group defense, and a half-dozen smaller vessels (most of which are simply being towed by the larger ships).

The flotilla halts as the commander awaits confirmation of the Western Asian request to enter the harbor.
