Klonor manufactured ships and weapons are legendary throughout the galaxy. They survive and even triumph against seemingly impossible odds, supporting war-torn nations in their times of need. Yet ships have only limited abilities, they can only be in one place at a time no matter how many emergencies there are; and if they go to deal with one emergency they leave another one untended.
Yet many emergencies don't require the use of an entire vessel. Many situations don't need the powerful engines of a Destroyer or the massive fighters inside a Carrier, all they need are the weapons that the ships lug along. Unfortunately, the rest of the ship has to come along. Well, we are now one step closer to moving beyond that.
The newly designed Orbital Fortress shall take the place of the dozens of ships needed to defend a planet or vital installation. They free up those ships for offensive actions, rescue missions, deep space combat, or any of a dozen other such situations. A bare few Fortresses shall take the place of dozens of Cruisers and Corvettes, keeping the security of a planet intact and greatly increasing the offensive capabilities of any nation.
