Well here we have it! After two weeks of preparation, the NIL starts here! This is an exciting moment for all of us, as I reveal the first fixtures of the first season of the NIL. Well, here goes nothing:

Round 1 Fixtures (to be played on Wednesday 28th July 2004)

Bedistan Stars vs. Pottersk Wanderers
Hersfold NFL vs. Audioslavia XI
Halfassed Heros vs. Tothampton FC
West Pacific Nationals vs. AFC Westleigh
Racculli Ravens vs. Brotherhood NST
Squornshelous Pschychoes vs. Vilita Travel Cats
Dinamo Maserrat vs. Jerusalem United
The Belmore Family Reserves vs. Graham City FC

If anybody not participating wants to pledge their allegiance to one of these teams, this is the place to do it.

Remember once the games have been played, I expect to see a match report, or at least some acknowledgement from the participants. If over a long period of time no such acknowledgement is given, points will be docked from the team (ruthless, aren't I?). I wills en details to each team's nation via telegram, as to the main points of the game, from which you can tell a story. Well, that's it for now, I think. I'll be back tomorrow to announce the first ever results. A final good luck to all teams involved. Go Dinamo!

Jerusalem United to play first international club games

Jerusalem United, 2004 premiers, will participate in the Nationstates Interregional League. After a poor showing in the warm-up games against Middle Eastern opponents, Jerusalem United are not favourites and maybe without some star players who are now participating in World Cup XVI.

"It's bad timing Jeruselem national team and Jerusalem United need these players now. We are not complaining about our best players going to the World Cup, but the U-21 championship has not started so we will starting some of these players." CEO of Jerusalem United said to DotF TV.

After it was announced that none of Bedistan's World Cup XV players would be returning for WCXIV, those that weren't retiring immediately formed their own team, the Bedistan Stars. Though not officially recognized by the Bedistan Football Association, they have nevertheless gained the right to participate in the first NationStates Interregional League. The teams started off by getting some practice against Earth-bound teams, and the Stars performed well, with a 2-1-0 record. Now the time has come for the league itself to begin.

The first match occurs at home (Stephen Rogers Memorial Stadium in Yuba) against Pottersk Wanderers. We don't currently know much about the team, but we fully expect the Stars to walk away with three points from the match.
Pottersk

And in sport, Pottersk Wanderers manager, John Harwood, is planning to unveil his latest signing, Jose Antonio Gamacho, at a press conference later today. He will be in the starting lineup for tomorrow's opening day match against Bedistan Stars, and Harwood believes that Gamacho, as well as his several other signings, could easily pull off a major shock.

"Bedistan are an established footballing nation, and we are not - it's as simple as that. However, my philosophy is that there are no easy games, and with the right tactics and players, any team is beatable, even that of a pedigree such as Bedistan."

This will be Pottersk's first outing into the footballing wilderness, and whilst they may not know of the dangers and pitfalls lurking ahead, they are prepared to take the tournament one step at a time.

"Obviously our aim this season is to not be relegated, and if we achieve this then we can be almost certain of staying up next season, and we can set our sights a little higher. If we can just take each match as it comes, and perhaps have a good cup run, then we could pull off a few shocks."

After trying to write a few telegrams to memebers, I got bored, so I've decided to post details here and you can find the appropriate match for you. It's a whole lot easier. Sorry if you've already received a telegram, it won't happen again.

I'm going to do this in code, so you'd better know what it means. First I will do the score, such as Bedistan 2-1 Pottersk, then you'll see numbers between 1 and 90. These are the times goal are scored, and the individual teams goals are separated by a semicolon (;). If the time has a p next to it, it was a penalty, if there's an mp next to it, it was a missed penalty. Next you willsee a number with a y next to it. This is the number of yellow cards picked up, again separated by a semicolon. The numbr with an r next to it is the number of red cards picked up. Got it? OK let's go.

Bedistan 2-1 Pottersk;3,58;80;3Y;1Y;0R;0R
Hersfold 1-1 Audioslavia;81;58;2Y;1Y;0R;0R
Halfassed Heros 1-0 Tothampton;44;2Y;0Y;0R;0R
West Pacific 1-0 Westleigh;71;2Y;2Y;0R;0R
Racculli 0-1 Brotherhood;23;2Y;3Y;0R;0R
Squornshelous 2-1 Vilita;13,52;3;0Y;1Y;0R;0R
Dinamo Maserrat 0-0 Jerusalem United;0Y;2Y;0R;0R
The Belmores 2-1 Graham City;20,31;59(mp),83;1Y;1Y;0R;0R

Sorry if that's a bit confusing, but once you get the hang of it, it should be alright. Well, that's it for now. I expect to see some reports when I log on next.

United draw blank and see yellow

Jerusalem United drew it's first game in the NIL series with 0-0 draw with Dinamo Maserrat. It was not pretty game and both teams were not at their best. United picked up two yellow cards with youngers Yasser Aramad and Guy Lusan the cuprits from crude tackles. Some Dinamo players got away with similar behaviour but were warned by the referee instead.

Our favourite comedian commentator Crazy Dave will sum up the game for us.
"What do you expect from Eastern European and Christo-Jewish state fighting it out in club championship tourny? Lots of goals and good spirit. No lots of agro and little enterprise! A bit of fighting and some biff, that's football. All we need is some acting!".

'slaves XI drop two points

As the nation waits for World Cup 16 to get underway, the eyes of some of the more anally retentive fans have turned to the Nations Interregional League, a round-robin of various teams representing various countries from around the world. Audioslavia is represented by a team containing retired footballers, players from the lower reaches of the Audioslavian leagues and ex-international World Cup Eight star Iwan Riot.

Broadcasted live on Channel Six, The match was watched by less than half-a-percent of Audioslavia's population (although that does equate to roughly one hundred million people). Audioslavia's XI were playing a team called 'Hersfold NFL'

The first half was drab, punctuated only by some flashes of skill by the older Audioslavians and the more adept of the Hersfold team, and also by the odd yellow card, notably Iwan Riot for diving outside the Hersfold penalty area.

The game picked up the second half, with Jack Megan hitting the bar before nineteen-year old Derren Darbie rasped a volley past the Hersfold goalie from a corner.

Audioslavia retained the lead until ten minutes from time, as a tiring Audioslavian defence were caught napping, and Hersfold equalized through the number seven.

HNFL kept the pressure up to the last, but the 'slaves ten-man defence held firm

Tothampton FC slumps to 1-0 defeat by Halfassed Heros.

This came as n suprise as much of the team is away on national duty and mostly a team of youngsters was presented to play. Restricting the opposing team to only scoring one goal is something to be proud of.

The score could have easily been 4-0 but the Tothampton keeper was in fine form.

OOC: Havnt got down to doing a roster myself, hopefully will have enough time tomorrow to do so. RL comittments and all..

It was supposed to be the rematch after the game in the U21 Championships between these two teams, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Fans of Dinamo Maserrat were disappointed to see that a similar result was achieved, despite Jerusalem United lacking some of their top players, still away on international duty. The match started brightly enough, with both sides having opportunities to score. However, both goalkeepers were up to the task, keeping out shots which would have been impossible for the average superhero. Soon after the thirty minute mark the game turned into a stodgy midfield affair, the ball spending a whopping 80% of the game in the centre circle. Dinamo manager Slobodan Gresko was not all that pleased with the result.

"We should have got three points from that game. Jerusalem were weakened, and we should have taken advantage of the home crowd. I suppose the good things to take from this game are the improved defense line up, and the fact that we picked up no yellow cards - not the easiest of tasks."

After this, the reporter's mobile phone started to ring, and in a Gordon Strachan-esque fashion, Gresko stormed off to the dressing room where he bellowed at the team for a full forty-five minutes, after which he requested some Strepsils. One gauges that he expects more from the team, and indeed more will be needed for the next game, opponent yet unknown.

Win the Perfect start!

A team made up of former footballing greats was put together to represent Halfassedstates in the newly formed Nations Interregional League. The 'Heros' as they were dubbed by the Halfassed media struggled in their warm up games managing only one narrow win in the 3 games.

They went into the opening match without much form, but luckily, their opponents Tothampton FC had lossed all their warm-up fixtures and had were stuggling even more. The lack of self-belief was evident in the play of both sides early on, only the keepers seemed to be playing to standard.
Jon Stun summed things up when he horribily missed timed a challenge on the #8 just outside the box, giving away a needless free-kick and collecting a yellow card. The Tothampton #9 blasted the kick over the bar.
Just as most of the crowd began to head for a half-time pie, the deadlock was broken. Al Bundy broke down the wing and crossed the ball in for Sherwood. The strikers header thumped the bar and was half-cleared by the #5. The ball however fell to the onrushing Perfect, who struck it on the volley and watched as it flew into the top right of the net. As he went to celebrate, Perfect took off his shirt and was promptly booked by the ref.
Sadly for the capacity crowd in the Commonwealth Stadium, the goal did not inspire the sides, and the second half continued along the same lines as the first.
Final score: 1-0

I know why this doesn't seem to be a big hit! Most tournaments play games everyday, and that is why hey are so popular - because there is something new everyday. Therefore, starting from Monday a round of matches will be played every day, meaning each season lasts just over a month (including the NIL Cup games, which I 'll talk about later). I'll post tomorrow's fixtures later on.

And in sport, John Harwood, manager of the Pottersk Wanderers team has stated in no uncertain terms that it is unlikely the team will not be rlegated from this season's NIL. In a press conference after the teams 2-1 defeat to the Bedistan Stars, an unscrupulous reporter asked what their chances of staying up are. Harwood replied with the phrase 'very unlikely', thus putting his future at the club in jeopardy. He is set to issue a statement apologising for his comments in the near future, but it is clear that the club is in turmoil, and defeat to Halfassed Heros tomorrow will only mount the pressure.

United fight off Graham City FC

Jerusalem United beat Graham City 1-0 in a testy game with 4 yellow cards, but only one to United with GC responsible for 3. A lone strike by James Goldsmith who scored in the winning goal after beating off the entire GC defense by himself.

United's defense held off GC and held on for a solid but lucky 1-0. The cost of victory was some injuries due to aggressive tactics by GC resulting in three yellow cards.

How did I go off on a different tangent??!?

Let's review Vilita's first match code:

Squornshelous 2-1 Vilita;13,52;3;0Y;1Y;0R;0R

Now let's review what Vilita said:

The always potent Baron O'Toole put the Travel Cats ahead just 5 minutes in, but to no avail, as the Scoreline was 2-1 Squorn at the half and thats how it would end up. Lee Bruce was Yellow Carded while conceding the Penalty that awarded Squorn their second goal.

Two points. Can anybody see them?

1) Vilita scored after three minutes, not five. I realise that this was perhaps a generalisation, so I'm not really bothered about this one as much as number two.
2) Do you see the letter 'p' next to any of the numbers in this code? No? Then Squornshelous did not score from a penalty. There are plenty of ways to get a yellow card, such as throwing the ball at the referee, or pulling somebody's shorts down.

This may seem a bit picky, but it's really so that everything is fair and lawful. OK? Sorry to single you out Vilita, but you were the only one who did it, so really it wasn't singling out, as there was only one person to select from...never mind.

Sorry Tothampton Loose Again

If the pre-season world tour is taken into consideration, Tothampton FC have not won a game in 5 outings so far. Calls for changes have grown louder after the team found themselves dead last in the table without scoring a single goal.

Manager Brown commented, "This is crazy, things are bound to change. The opponents always appear to have a great day against us, that cant continue for long."

Hello everyone. Sorry I wasn't able to RP the first game, I will try to get this one done. BTW, Masserrat, if you want to make it easier to read the stats for the games, use the [ code ] tags like you see above in Turori's post. Here is what to do:

Type the word "code" in between brackets ( [c*de], only replace the * with an o) Then, all letters and spaces will be the same width until you place the closing tag, which looks like this: [/code] Use the "preview post" button to be sure that it is correct. For example:

Again, be sure to replace the * with an o.

Other tags to jazz up your posts:

bold text = [b]
underline = [u]
italics = [i]
color changes = [color=red], [color=blue], whatever. Available colors are red, green, blue, yellow, purple, orange, and maybe teal, but I am not sure on that last one.
size changes = [size=#] with # being some number usually from 1 to 9. the bigger the #, the bigger the text. Too large of text, however, can cause resolution problems.
Font Changes = [font=impact],[font=arial], etc. Available fonts are Arial, Times, Courier, Impact, Geneva, Optima.
An [IMG] tag can be used to give a link to a picture on the web. Unfortunately, this forum does not go so far as to actually put the pic in the post.

In order to activte these tags, they must be spelled correctly, and eventually followed by tag that will look similar to this:

[/"root tag operator"]

Replace "root tag operator" with the operator, the letter or letters you typed in the starter tag. In the case of the size, color, and font tags, you only need the word "Font", "color", or "size" in the closing tag, not the number, whatever. If a tag is typed incorrectly or not closed, it will appear in the post as normal text, and look very stupid.

Disclaimer: I have not personally tried all of these tag options here on the Jolt forums. The options come from Invisionfree Boards, and may not in all cases work here. This is not my fault and I am sorry if they don't work right.

Now before I RP Saturday's game, one question: Does a Red Card/send-off result in a player's ban from a certain amount of games? This could greatly affect how I type up the article, so if you would... Thanks!

Hersfold: Thanks for that, even though I don't quite understand it - I'll read through it again later. In answer to your question, yes - a red card means automatic suspension for one match, just like in the new FA rules.

Vilita: Look, I have enough on my plate as it is at the moment - my region is 'under threat' from some inferior region and I'm at war with some nation calld Ace Land. On top of that I have to think of a new title for my nation because I've reached 500 million population (I think I'll have Weimarical Constituency) AND I have to do this league as well as the East Pacific League. I don't have time to argue, so I'll let you have this one. Just remember that the only reason you're in the league is out of the kindness of my very own heart.

Spurland: Tothampton have changed their style of play to attacking

Racculli Ravens vs. Pottersk Wanderers
Squornshelouys Pschychoes vs. Audioslavia XI
Dinamo Maserrat vs. Tothampton FC
The Belmore Family Reserves vs. AFC Westleigh

Jerusalem United vs. Vilita Travel Cats

Despite the fact that this match was played at midnight, nobody fell asleep during it - except that it is for a lone Brotherhood player, who completely lost concentration when he gifted Dinamo Maserrat a goal from the penalty spot, bringing down Ubuloy when he had absolutely no chance of scoring and nobody to pass to. Despite this slightly fortuitous goal, Maserrat were far from lucky to win. They dominated possession in the first half, and were rewarded with a goal on the stroke of half time from a superb thirty yard strike from midfielder Anastaze. On the other side of forty five, Brotherhood played the better game, bettering the Maserrat efforts all over the pitch. They finally broke the Dinamo defense on 69 minutes, and were off celebrating when the referee whistled to restart the game from the centre circle. Maserrat took advantage of the lax defending from Brotherhood to carve out another chance, but tpo what seemed to be no prevail. However one defender panicked, and upended Ubuloy on the wrong edge of the area. The referee imediately pointed to the spot. Jarenko stepped up, and calmly slotte the ball in the bottom right hand corner, completely wrong footing the goalkeeper. Brotherhood had chances to equalise, but maserrat sat back to defend the lead, and played it to the end.

Sorry, Masserat. I would have made that a little clearer, except that I couldn't do any actual closing tags because they wouldn't have shown up... never mind.

Also, I do see your point in trying to provide goal times, etc., so that we don't end up with conflicting match reports, but you did leave it up to us to write the acutal RP reports, so the way I see it, if Vilita really wants to do something else, then they can. But it's not my place to say anything, so I will shut up now.

Anyway, back in character...

Hersfold NFL fall back in NIL; 2nd match tied
Hersfold tie 2-2 against Bedistan at home

VULCAN - National Football League fans witnessed an exciting match yesterday, but were not happy with the result. Hersfold scored the first goal in the 14th minute, but after that, things began to go downhill. The away team, the Bedistan Stars, scored immediately afterward. Defender David White was shown the yellow card shortly afterward for arguing with the referee over the legality of the play. Things quieted down for a while, until Hersfold scored again in the 56th minute, off of a free kick awarded after a Stars defender was cautioned for an illegal tackle. As the match was drawing to a close, a handball from a Stars defender recieved the away team another yellow card. However, Midfielder Ron Martin and previously cautioned Defender White seemed to think the handball "prevented them from scoring and should have been a red card." After a violent argument, two more yellow cards were issued to Martin and White, resulting in White's expulsion from the match. Bedistan scored 5 minutes later, bringing the final score to a 2-2 draw.

After the match, Manager Brett Reynolds confessed his fellings about the tournament so far. "I do not believe we are playing as well as we can, and certainly not as well as we were during the world tour. I am ashamed that one of our players would be so belligerent toward a referre, so as to get expelled for it. In addition to the one game-ban being imposed by the NIL, we will withhold him from the match after that as well. I hope we will be playing better that this soon, as we should have easily won both of those games."

Hersfold NFL plays it's next game against West Pacific Nationals later today.

Jeruselem [112] - [0] Vilita

--Haiaiafaafaa, Jeruselem--Despite their opponents having already withdrawn from the competition, the Jeruselem Select Team arrived in Jeruselem at the orders of Interregional League management, whether their opponents showed or not. As expected, the Vilita Travel Cats were home in Vilita with no intentions of taking the trek to Jeruselem for the NIL matchup. Despite requests from the referee that the match be abandoned or forfeited, the NIL Hierarchy insisted that the match would go ahead as scheduled, with only the Jeruselem Select 11 on the field. With no Resistence whatsoever, and rules already being broken to the maximum, Referee Kevin McGregor agreed to move "Center Circle" to the edge of what would have been the Vilitan Penalty Area, and allowed Jeruselem a makeshift Practice Session. Throughout the 90 minutes of play, the Lowlands Clan referee recorded 112 of the goals planted by the Select side and submitted them to league management to be recorded in the history books. However, going back on their earlier rulings, NIL officials chose to award the match as a lowly 1-0 Victory in the record books, hardly anything to be remembered by.

----However, after speaking to the McGregor, we were able to get a copy of the full list of goal scorers and goal times, which included would would have been the fastest hat trick ever, Mimi Goldstein hitting the netting three times in the 36th minute of 'play'.

----Jakob Fieldstein led all players with 18 goals, followed by Harry Kewell at 13. Hat Trick Hero Mimi Goldstein was one of 3 players at 12, along with Mohemmed Al Oldnar and Manny Jones. Joe Hapsgold was all alone at 10. Goalkeeper Abdulla Mohemmed teamed with David Becks and James Stuart at 9 a piece while Rabbi Goldstein's 8 was the least of those who scored. Striker Christian Hemma was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, as he was elected to be opposition goalkeeper first, but received two consecutive yellow cards for handling before being asked to leave the field, the only of the Jeruselem Select 11 to walk off goal less.

(Before I begin, can I just say to Vilita that neither 112-0 nor 108-0 is a record. I do believe that the largest scoreline ever recorded was 149-0, set in Madagascar. Apparently a team, in protest to a refereeing decision, scored 149 own goals, which is rather extreme if you ask me.)

Two wins and two draws sees Dianmo Maserrat rise to second in the table, with the Bedistan Stars ahead on goal difference and Jerusalem United behind on goals scored. No doubt this seemingly innocent but highly competitive game had something to do with that. Pottersk opened the scoring on 26 minutes with an excellent free kick from recent signing Jose Antonio Gamacho. However it was clear that Dinamo were on top, and soon after the restart, star striker Qostaze Ubuloy equalised after Jarenko was brought down in the box. The Dinamo fans hadn't even sat down when the second goal went in a few minutes later, an unlucky deflection of a Pottersk defender the culprit. Unfortunately, this game signalled the end of John Harwood's reign as Pottersk manager, who resigned after the match. He will be missed, but not sorely enough to plant a memorial tree.

I'm hoping that the competition's a little different to all those others. Indeed the Amsterdam Tournament, although usually involving teams that have underachieved (not this time round, thank God) and Ajax (who win every year somehow - does anybody else remember that Barcelona-Ajax game? Weird!) is a one of a kind competition, due to its unorthodox point system. For all of you who don't know (!) points are awarded as normal for wins, draws and losses, but you also get a pointfor each goal scored. So in this tournament, it's better to lose 3-2 than it is to draw 0-0 (for example). It makes for unpredictability and excitement all the way.

By the way, why has Turori posted here? Are they interested in the Yamsterdam Tournament?

Stars doing fairly well in NIL

WEST PACIFIC -- The Bedistan Stars improved their record in the NationStates Interregional League to 2-2-0 after taking care of West Pacific with a 2-0 win. As usual, the forward pair of Nathan Cooke and Kai Hancey were on the attack all game, though the West Pacifickers were certainly able to keep plenty of defensive pressure on the team. Disaster nearly resulted when Kurt Mumm executed an ill-timed tackle early in the first half that netted him a yellow card, but West Pacific was unable to get anything out of their free kick. Hancey would be the one to open the scoring with a tap-in on the stroke of halftime. The 1-0 would be kept for most of the game, but late in the game a West Pacific defender brought down Cooke about twenty yards from the goal, earning himself a yellow. Cooke took the resultant free kick, which curved nicely into the net for 2-0.

The next match is against Racculli.

Final score:
West Pacific 0
Bedistan Stars 2 (Hancey 45, Cooke 83)

Hersfold: I believe that in the rare situation that two teams has exactly the same stats, the team first alphabetically gets the higher position (in this case Graham City). If the season ends with two teams at the top of the table with the same stats, there is a play-off to see who wins the championship, as it would be a bit unfair to give somebody a trophy becasue there name comes first in the alphabet.

Turori: So WHY did you post? Was it just to make a comment? I think that the Yamsterdam Tournament will be a lot more readily recieved than the NIL (except, of course, by Liverpool England, who denounce everything).

I think I've realise where the problems are coming in. I'm being too strict wth timings and penalties and what-not, so from now on I will just tell you the scores and you can make up what you want.

In their match last night against The Belmores in the Nationstates Interregional League, previously high-spirited Hersfold National Football League failed to take home another victory. Losing 2 to 1 against The Belmores, the team is now in even lower spirits than they were in what is now nicknamed "The Draw Days."

The game began in high spirits, fresh from their victory against Squornshelous. The two teams fought hard up to the 27th minute, when Hersfold Midfielder Ron Martin finally broke through the Belmore defences and scored the game's first goal unassisted. However, after halftime, Belmore quickly struck back with an excellent corner kick in the 51st minute. Continuing on through the game, the ball kept switching possession and generally remaining in the middle of the field until a foul brought down Martin in the 80th minute. Martin was carried off the field in a strecher with an ankle injury. With the new weakness in the Hersfold defences, The Belmores scored the final goal in the 87th minute.

Manager Reynolds feels that the team needs a few easy games over the next few days in order to hopefully lighten their morale. "We have been challenged with some difficult teams, and haven't been able to keep up with the hard pace they keep. We need another several wins in order to stay alive in this tournament. If the team's morale keeps dropping, we will have a very hard time getting goals. Worse yet, we do not know who we are playing next, and so do not know what to expect around the corner." Ron Martin will be out for the remainder of the week with his strained ankle.

Yesterday was a bad day, so sorry for not bothering to post. Hersfold, sorry but I don't think you'll be getting some easy games for a while (nothing to do with me - it was the fixture program). Well here's today's results:

Squornshelous 1-1 Bedistan
Racculli 1-3 Maserrat
West Pacific 1-0 The Belmores
Halfassed Heros 2-1 Graham City
Hersfold 0-1 Jerusalem
Pottersk 0-3 Vilita
Audioslavia 1-0 Brotherhood NST
Tothampton 1-2 Westleigh

Now according to my calculations, Bedistan and Maserrat are join top (Bedistan top on alphabetical order), which makes the next game rather important for both teams:

Bedistan vs. Maserrat
The Belmores vs. Squornshelous
Graham City vs. Racculli
Jerusalem vs. West Pacific
Vilita vs. Halfassed Heros
Brotherhood NST vs. Hersfold NFL
Westleigh vs. Pottersk
Tothampton vs. Audioslavia

AO Select [ 3 ]-[ 0 ] Pottersk

Select Take home first points in Pottersk.

National Stadium, Pottersk - Turorian Trialist Tika Poloni, a Left sided midfielder from NEWI Cefn Druids Conference side Vilitan Exiles, starred in a recent Interrigional matchup of an AO Select side against a team from Pottersk. Poloni, the 30 year old Turori National Prospect, scored 1 and set up another to earn a deserved man of the match award. Poloni's teammate, Goalkeeper Trevor Ungata also made a big impression, with two key saves in the second half to keep pottersk off the scoreboard and the AO Select in control of the match, allowing a late goal from Xile's Versace Bulga to finish off the home side. 70 year old Turori Trialist Oswaldo Alegre from Kingsford made an appearance late in the first half, but the outspoken Vagabundo player went off with a hip injury and had to be replaced on the half. Other players in the squad included Starblaydia-Based Trialist Duncan Jacob; Stralphi's Hest Teritis & Seld Karino; Lamoni's Ivan Bubov; Pedriana's King Malinky and Vilitans Sublé Tonic, Lai Otieno and David Leacock.

It was set to be a game of few chances and few goals (due to the defensive nature of both teams). However it turned out to be Dinamo Maserrat's game of the season so far, playing some brilliant football, and finishing clinically to run out 3-1 winners over the home side. Whether it was the downfall of their bitter rivals Pottersk Wanderers, languishing at the bottom of the table, or just something put in their breakfasts that morning, all players played above expectation, and looked almost Brazilian in style (although not in colour - the white shirts with red/blue cross being too white for yellow). It could have been difficult to pick a man of the match, had Jarenko not played out of his socks to get a deserved hat-trick, the first ever recorded in Maserratian history. A goal in four minutes started things off, but an equaliser inside two minutes settled things down. It was not long however before Maserrat upped the tempo and soon Racculli were being run ragged. A goal on 34 minutes made fans pleased, and another on 68 made them ecstatic. Jarenko was so happy he did seven backflips followed by a somersault, a la Nigeria-style.

West Pacific wins, 1-0 over The Belmores!

Sydney Hammermill Scores in 79th minute to give West Pacific the win.

What was a close game almost went into a draw today as West Pacific narrowly escaped with the win, 1-0 over the Belmores. Both teams Goal Keepers had a very good game but ultimately it was the 4 attackers that finally got to the Belmore's goal keeper. Said Jake Featherstone, coach for the West Pacific Nationals: "I was getting really nervous, it seemed like their goal keeper would never get tired, then in the 76th minute I thought I saw some fatigue in him and 3 minutes later we finally scored, giving us the win, this game could have gone either way though, our Midfielders did a good job of keeping the ball in front of them and our forwards kept the goal keeper moving."

Next the West Pacific Nationals will be playing Jerusalem, who is a strong team and will be looking to rebound after a 3-0 loss to Hersfeld.

I think West Pacific may be slightly mistaken in their evaluation of Jerusalem's last match. Before I begin, can I just say that I am not cheating to make my team win. I have no control over the program that produces the scorelines, so it's not my fault that my team is now top of the table.

Bedistan 0-1 Maserrat (got you this time)
The Belmores 1-0 Squornshelous
Graham City 0-1 Racculli
Jerusalem 3-2 West Pacific
AO Select 1-5 Halfassed Heros
Brotherhood 0-0 Hersfold
Westleigh 3-2 Pottersk
Tothampton 2-0 Audioslavia

If I were AO Select, I would change my aggression level fast - it's part of the reason you're doing so badly.

If there is one aggression level that makes you do badly all the time, then you must rethink how you are considering aggression levels.

It's not just the aggression level that makes you do badly. I offered this choice for the person who wants to pick up few cards and concede few penalties, which I do believe has been the case for you. The down side of this option is that the opposition gets more chances, although I have to say you have been extremely unlucky so far. I'm sure it will pick up, though.

Jerusalem United breaked losing streak in NIL

After a shaking start in the NIL series with only one win, it seemed after a draw with Westleigh (4th game) and loss to AudioSlavia XI (5th game) all was lost. United played well, but Audioslavia's win put the campaign on shaky ground.

Never to give up, United won the next two games (6th and 7th) and are still contenders to win the NIL series. The coach was very happy with change in form and wants more wins from his team "Apart from the Vilita siesta, all our wins have been close. There are no easy games in the NIL series"

game 6 - Heros 2 Graham City 1
A win at last! Al Bundy gave the Heros an early lead. Crewgar extended the lead on the hour, before Joe King got sent-off for a professional foul. City pulled one back but the Heros held on.

A Sherwood hat-trick coupled with goals from Gunnet and Ducks gave the Heros a resounding victory.

Well those of you who summarised your tournament so far did good, because from now it will be a straightforward knockout competition (a nice little twist, don't you think?). I didn't mention it in the beginning because, well it makes it interesting, doesn't it? So why, you may ask, did we play those seven games if it was going to count for nothing? The answer to that is...they do. The position you currently are in the table determines who you will play in the first knockout stage. The top team (conveniently me) will play the bottom team, the second team will play the second bottom team, and so on. So if you are bottom, there's still a chance to win. This may seem a bit weird and out of the blue, but I do like to spring surprises on people - it's so much fun. The knockout stages start tomorrow, so we will be finished in just three days times (if my calculations are correct).

West Pacific wins! Upsets Westerleigh 2-0! Advances to second round!

West Pacific was a big underdog today as they went into the first round of the NSIL playoffs but they came out winners defeating Westerleigh 2-0 to advance to the second knock out round. The coach had this to say: "Everyone thought we were the underdogs, nobody gave us much of a chance to win, but we knew we could do it, we defeated Westerleigh 1-0 on our first matchday, we remembered that, watched the game films and capitalized on their weaknesses once again. Our boys played hard and they deserved this win after so many heartbraking losses." Russ Miller scored in the 27th minute and Raymond Colbes, who was put on the starting squad at the last minute, scored in the 68th minute to put it away for the Nationals.

Next West Pacific will be playing Tothampton FC in the 2nd knock out round, my we wish the best of luck to our boys, go get Nationals!

Halfassed Vs Bedistan (again!!)

After rescuing their ex-manager, it seems that Bedistan and Halfassed are destined to meet at every possible opportunity. 2 games in the WC qualifiers and 1 in the NIL in the past few months have lead to these nations knowing quite a lot about ech other, and the trend is set to continue.
After edging out Racculli in a sudden knock out round introduced to the NIL event, the Heros discovered that they were to face the Stars once again.
A 1-1 draw in their previous outing gives no real clue of who may edge this fixture, and with the WC matches between the two nations finishing 3-4 and 2-2, it looks like being a good game to watch.
All we can say is ggggoooooooo HEROS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as the teams were seeded correctly that is the tournament so far. You know, best playing not the best (don't want to be mean.) and it should be designed so that if the higher seeds always win the first and second plce team meet in the championship. What Were You Thinking?!
McGuire's decision to fire WC15 squad called into question after WC qualifying, NIL performances

HALFASSEDSTATES -- Right now we won't talk about the World Cup qualifying group that both Bedistan and Halfassedstates are in, because that would be way too depressing for this article. Instead, we turn to the NationStates Interregional League, where the Bedistan Stars, composed entirely of our nation's players from World Cup 15, are doing significantly better than the current squad.

The Stars' quarterfinal matchup was against, interestingly, the Halfassed Heros (is it just me or are we seeing a lot of Halfassedstates lately?). Regular time in the match proved to be somewhat unexciting, with neither team making much headway until the middle of the second half, when Halfassed opened the scoring and the Stars retaliated just two minutes later. At the end of 90 minutes, the 1-1 scoreline had not been broken, and thirty minutes of extra time wouldn't do it either. Thus we came to the bane of international football players everywhere: the penalty shootout.

Simply put, it lasted for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time. So we'll spare you the gory details and just post up this handy-dandy chart:

HALFASSEDSTATES 9 - 10 BEDISTAN

R. Sherwood X X T. Touchstone
F. Crewgar X N. Cooke
W. Wallace X H. Miele
P. Perfect X G. Abair
J. Soap X H. Vallecillo
J. Stun X X R. O'Hare
T. Thumb M. Edelman
J. King X X J. Matz
V. Jones X X A. Crooks
R. King X X K. Greenwell
R. Sherwood X X T. Touchstone
F. Crewgar X X N. Cooke
W. Wallace H. Miele
P. Perfect X G. Abair

So finally, 10-9, the Stars won the match on penalties after an extremely long battle.

Our semifinal opponent is Brotherhood NST, who defeated Graham City 3-2.

So after several weeks of preparation, a rather revealing World Tour, which ended in a trophy for the Nationstates World, an intense group stage, and an exciting knockout stage, the NIL comes down to this; two teams, one match. The winner goes home with the trophy, the other, a whole host of whatifs and maybes. Who wins? Place your bets!

Now, just to hold the suspense for a bit longer, we're going to go through the match highlights!

1: The match kicks off, with Bedistan starting from the centre circle. Already they're pushing up the field, trying to get an early goal, but the Tothampton defense is holding out.
12: After ten minutes of Bedistan pressure, Tothampton finally get hold of the ball. They're keeping possession well and are slowly making their way up the pitch. A cross from the left flank is headed just wide - the best chance of the game so far.
16: After that Tothampton chance, the game has become much more even, a lot of the ball being seen in midfield. Tothampton have converted to long ball play, but the Bedistan defense is far too experienced to have problems with it.
24: Bedistan go on the break - it's three against two, and it's now one on one with the keeper...brilliant stop by the Tothampton keeper. Made it difficult for the striker to get a shot off.
31: Bedistan have a corner, that is hit towards the far post. The keeper goes for it but misses. There's a goalmouth scramble. The ball's gone out of the sight. Where is it? There it is - in the back of the net! The referee's allowed it - it's now one-nil to Bedistan.
45: Half time, and Tothampton will be disappointed to go off a goal down. Their defense has been excellent apart from that one mistake by the keeper that led to the goal.

Half time: Bedistan 1-0 Tothampton

Having fun? One of these teams is forty-five muntes from the title. Who will it be? Let's find out...

46: Tothampton start the second half off, but give it away immediately. A shot from 30 yards completely misses the target. Poor control from the Bedistan player.
49: Bedistan's offside trap has failed, and now Tothampton are one on one with the keeper. The striker's been upended by the keeper inside the box. The referee reaches for his pocket...it's red for the Bedistan keeper! He's immediately surrounded by protesting Bedistan players, but the keeper walks straight off the pitch. The replacement keeper is ready, and now Bedistan need to decide which outfield player to sacrifice. One of the strikers is coming off, and the keeper comes on. His first job? To save a Tothampton penalty. A player steps up and places the ball on the spot. He turns his back on the keeper, walks three yards from the ball...turns and runs! It's in! Completely wrong-footed the keeper! Excellent penalty! One all!
56: After the equaliser, Bedistan go to all out attack. They look the more likely to score, despite the one man deficit. A shot just trickles wide, whilst the Tothampton keeper makes another excellent save. At this rate, it's only a matter of time before Bedistan retake the lead.
68: Tothampton are finally making that extra man count. They're beating Bedistan all over the pitch, but just can't seem to make it count. Another shot blocked by th defender. They'll need to score soon, or risk regretting it later on.
90: The referee blows the final whistle with the teams still tied. Will be going to extra time.

Full time: Bedistan 1-1 Tothampton

So, now that Bedistan are down to ten, can they still win? What do you think?

91: Bedistan start the first period of extra time. Remember we're in golden goal mode - the next goal wins the match. Both teams are going for it...the tackles are flying in. It's a wonder the referee hasn't produced a card yet - apart from that red.
97: Tothampton win a free kick on the edge of the box. Will they finally make the breakthough? The ball's been skied! What a waste!
101: Tothampton win another free kick. Can they do any better this time? Incredible save by the keeper! It looked to be sailing into the top right-hand corner, but somehow the keeper got there and punched it out for a corner. The corner's about to be taken...poor corner - straight to the defender.
105: The whistle signals the end of the first period of extra time, and still no breakthrough.

Be honest - you're wetting yourself with excitement, aren't you?

106: Tothampton restart the game. They're immediately on the prowl...Bedistan can't get back! The ball's been crossed into the box...and it's in! Excellent header by the Tothampton player! The golden goal is their's...wait, the referee's disallowed it! Offside according to the linesman. I think that's a poor decision. How important could that be!
109: Now Bedistan are on the offensive. Tothampton are defending well, and have riun the player with the ball into the corner. Surely he can't do anything with that! Nope, it's gone out for a goal kick.
117: We're running out of time here - will this match go to penalties, again, in the case of Bedistan. They got to the semis and the final on penalties. Will they have to do it again? I say we've got time for one last attack for Bedistan. They're being patient, but they're running out of time. It's crossed in, but it's been headed out by the defender. It's fallen at the feet of a Bedistan player, who lets rip with a shot from 25 yards...GOAL! The ball sails past the keeper, despite his best efforts. The Bedistan players are going wild. They've run to the corner flag to celebrate with their fans. The Tothampton players can't believe it. How important was that disallowed goal! Unbelieveable, this game! So, it's a happy ending for Bedistan, who have won their third trophy in as many tournaments - surely the kings of Nationstates football here. Tothampton, never really expecting to get past the first round of knockouts, got here with a 3-0 win, an amazing 8-1 win and a 2-1 win over hosts Maserrat. They may not have expected to win, but no doubt they'll be thinking that they could have done. Despair for them, joy for the opposition. Final score, Bedistan 2, Tothampton 1.

Well there you have it. Bedistan are deserved winners of the NIL trophy. They were top of the table for a long time, until that final game against Maserrat dropped them to sixth, but they rose again to win the championship. Commiserations to Tothampton - they fought valiantly, but in the end, the better team won. The NIL is over - don't forget to come to the reunion barbecue later in the year!

Bloody brilliant that we finished 2nd.

Never would have thought this was possible after failing to win a single game in the friendlies, and lounging about around bottom place in the league.

Our nation is very proud.

It's always good to be appreciated. Just a shame it doesn't happen too often.

All right, more good news!

My apologies for not having time to RP anything with regard to the final match, but I have family visiting this weekend and don't have much computer time for a couple days. Nevertheless, the fans back home are definitely proud of their team.

An U21 trophy...the NIL...what's next, the World Cup itself? Stay tuned. ;)

I don't know - a lot of people seem to have gone off of me now, so I probably wouldn't get the same amount of interest as before. If you're interested, the Yamsterdam Tournament is open for business, and I will probably do one of these every so often, so you could become an honourary YT participant, and take part in every one.
