One thing I couldn't find answered in the stickies
What happens when a nation loses a war? As I said, I didn't see it when I was reading through the stickies.

Dunno, you role play losses and move on with your foriegn policy like nations do in RL.
I don't RP, btw, so I really don't know.

In the good (bad?) old days you were to hand over the password to your nation to the victor...In reality I haven't heard anyone doing that anymore...

That would be exceptionally silly, now, wouldn't it?
(Especially in wars such as the one I've just embarked upon, since a tiny colony with a population of 3,000 is all we stand to lose. I don't know why all wars must be total! Really! It looks like it's going to be fairly good, people should skirmish more, rather than trying to 'win the game' or something.)
It's up to those involved, I suppose.

Actually, that was never a rule...

No but it was a tradition that was actually upheld for some time. It actually made a good deal of good RP. A country was invaded, they handed over the password. If they fought back and got it back, the password was returned. Unfortunately there were bastards like Marathon who decided they were above tradition and tore it down.

Rule or Tradition, the loss of the password is was what used to happen when a nation was defeated.
Which was the question I was attempting to answer. I personally came in when that rule was slowly dying. Personally I think it was the multi-conflict fiasco called World War (five or six) which just sort of made things a real mess. And the noob invasion of April 2003 wouldn't stand for losing their nation to anyone...
