Fresh off Sarzonia's dominance during the Baptism of Fire Cup tournament, Coach Bryan Marshall already began to worry.

"We're going to go straight into a tournament against world class competition and we have no idea what we're up against," Marshall said. "Not only that, but we're going to have to assemble a 'B' team to compete in the AOCAF tournament since our priority is the World Cup."

The Stars finished the Baptism of Fire Cup tournament as the only team in the field not to lose or draw a match and outscored its six opponents 17-2. Stellar performances by young Sarzonians, goalkeeper Troy Perkins, forward Brian Wilson, and team captain and midfielder Bobby Convey led the way for the team.

"We're nervous, but we're also excited," Convey said. "Darwin (Russell, an attacking midfielder from Nicksia) may get transferred if NEWI Cefn Druids approves his work permit. This can only do wonders for Sarzonian football."

The team announced that it would employ the same roster for the World Cup that it used in the Baptism of Fire Cup. Assistant coach Dave Wilson said the team gave little to no thought to changing the roster.

"When your team is on a role, why change what worked," Dave Wilson said. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

The team is 6-2 against current World Cup teams, with the only losses being to regional rivals Krytenia and Vilita. The Sarzonians avenged their 2-0 group loss to Krytenia with a 3-1 win in the third place match of the AOCAF tournament. The Stars lost to Vilita in extra time in the semifinals, 1-0.

"We realize that some of the matches we played were against teams that also were newcomers to the World Cup stage, but that doesn't mean we can't compete on the international level," midfielder Darwin Russell said. "Crystilakere isn't exactly a novice to World Cup play, you know. Neither is Krytenia. I think our match against Vilita proved we could play with anyone even though we lost."

[OOC: I'll post my roster later tonight.]

Home Kit: White with Purple Trim
Away Kit: Purple with White Trim
Manager/Head Coach: Jean-Paul Georges-Ringeaux (53 years old)

Starblaydia coach Jean-Paul Georges-Ringeaux has not yet announced his 23-man World Cup 16 sqaud for the upcoming Qualifying Competition. Starblaydia were certainly the Dark Horses of their group in World Cup Qualifiers 15, managing to beat all three teams who Qualified (Dance 2 Revolution, Lemmitanita and Vilita). Starblaydia scored more goals than anyone in their group too, a massive 31.

A fantastic home record but Abysmali-style away record gave the Blades a W6 D6 L6 record and made them finish a rankings-predicted 7th in the Group. More is expected after a 10th place in the recent Cup of Harmony.

Hopefully, of course, Starblaydia's record of losing the opening match in five straight tournaments will end this time. Is being listed 13th some kind of unlucky omen? We'll tell you when WC17 starts...

Oglethorpian football; too violent?
The Bureaucratic States FA raises concern over the modern game

By Bill Christmas

OGLETHORPIA (BT) -- Within the Bureaucratic States Football Association headquarters, the topic of violence in football has become a hot topic. The last few seasons of Division 1 football in Oglethorpia has both observed a rise in violence in recent telecasts of matches, as well as a rise in the number of those injured each year. Fans have voiced their opinion that it makes the game more interesting, exciting -- while critics ask, "if everyone's injured, what's left to watch?"

But even television viewers, fans of a more contact-happy version of Oglethorpian football have to admit that Torrence Black's career ending injury that resulted in him breaking both legs was a grisly sight to see when caught on live television. Those in opposition of "the new Division 1 football" (read: more violent) make the point that something must be done to protect the players.

"It's very simple," suggests Betty Howard, President of the Association To Make Football Safe Again (AMFSA). "We just put padding on them; that way there wouldn't be a total of four people on the field after only 20 minutes of football. It may look goofy, but what good is Ruben van Mistletoe on a stretcher?"

The more eccentric Carl Brown demands institution of on-field restraining orders. "If everyone has to stay five-feet away from each other, then no one ends up cracking anyone else's skull. It's the solution to all the problems."

The BSFA has expressed concern with any of the proposals suggested by independent football monitoring-groups. "If the domestic game is a world apart from the international game, then how are we going to succeed against the world?" quested BSFA President Mel Green.

Betty Howard only has a puzzled face in the light of Mel Green's comments when we spoke to hear days later. "He says 'how are we going to succeed' as if we were already succeeding. I pose a very practical question to Mel Green at this point; 'were we ever succeeding against the world?'"

Even with the very real proposition that changing the domestic game may hamper skill in the World Cup, many seem still intent on making sure players stop trying to break each other's legs. "Otherwise we won't have too many players left to represent the country -- and that may be a bigger problem," says Carl Brown.

Coach Talio Aefnen retires to become head of TEN FA.

Star striker Josh Adams retired 6 months after WCXV and was named coach of the Cup team for WCXVI. Adams' offense will be missed this time around as he averaged 12.4 goals a campaign in his 4 cup appearances, but it was evident in XV that he was getting too slow to play at the speed that today's players needed.

The offical TEN Strike Birds Roster has been announced and turned n to the Roster center.

Zuka (Eauz) -- The officials of Les Bleus have announced that they will enter the qualifying round in hopes to continue their great success since wc13. Les Bleus though will be posting a whole new team which might prevent them from continuing their success. Players such as Yeuseuv, Joseuf and Rousseau along with many others are retiring leaving Les nouveaux Bleus. Coach Gregory Voloski though will be staying with Les Bleus who has since taking over Les Bleus won 1 World Cup and finished 3rd and 4th.

Officials of Eauz football warn that there could be corruption in World Cup 16 which could prevent certan teams, among whom are Eauz and The Eagles Nest from possibly making it to the first round of World Cup 16. One official noted:

"Look at the teams who are in this list, they are the same two who hosted World Cup 15, and in that cup, Rejistania was eliminated early. It is not our fault they performed poorly, like the Italians usually do in every international event"

Tdajikistan prepares for WC16

Murgab - The Tadjik Tigers currently reside is Murgab where they are on a special height training, teamdoctor Khrylov explains," the higher you go, the less air there is to breath. This training will improve the players inhalation, their heartbeat will be better cotrolled resulting in a better performance on the field". Triandafillov hopes this training will help the substitutes to adapt to the international football scene much faster since most of them have no international experience at all.

Triandafillov also anounced his team for the WC16 qualifications. His basic team has many known players while he chose to use a number of new and young players with promise. Among the players we also notice Suvorov, who played under Yakir in WC14 and as Yakir predicted would make name in the national team. Suvorov replaces Zhukov who has quit football at the age of 35, Zhukov will now be travelling with the team as assistent to Mr Triandafillov. Zhukovs job as captain of the team was given to Pliiev.

WELSH KILLER STILL NOT FOUND
Wayne Ottgunn-Irwin reports on the murder mystery still haunting Druid football.

The Druids were nearly there. A result in their final game of qualifying would get them to the World Cup Finals. Then a shot came out of the crowd, killing their manager instantly. The most shocking and deliberate of murders in front of 78,000 witnesses. Yet over three years have passed. There's a new board in charge of the FANCD, joint managers in charge of the team, even a new president. But still, nobody has any idea who killed Tim Welsh....

Meanwhile, the joint managers, Trevor Kallins and Simon Greaves, chose the core of the Druid squad from which the team will probably be picked from for the up and coming World Cup 16 Qualifying Campaign. It is as follows.

VILÄMNA DAGENS NYHETER

NEW COACH, NEW CUP, NEW RESULTS?
Recent poor offensive performances hoped to disappear

VILÄMNA, Svecia - The national voetbal squad has reported back to the Rijkstadion for practices leading up to the World Cup. The team just recently returned to Svecia after participating in the Cup of Harmony held in Melmond. The team's lack of offensive output against the host Fearless Farmers meant that they were bumped into the bottom nine, but ended up winning the championship of the bottom eight and took 9th overall.

A new coach took over for the tournament after former head coach Tim Sveers resigned following the team's dismas qualifying performance. Critics claimed that his 3-5-2 formation was no longer working now that his star player, Fransisco Carati, retire at the end of World Cup 14.

Sveers' replacement, Matt de Fijts, former goalkeeper of the Lightning team which won third place twice, has switched the formation back to the 4-3-3 formation which he played behind during his tenure as keeper. Hanan Belagt, who recently returned from the Melmond Premier league, heads up the powerful front line as he nears 75 caps. He leads the team in goals with 37 international goals.

On his left is new addition Benelux Maalerski who was added to the team roster in place of Fransisco Carati. The right forward is former midfielder Mikael Solskjaer who leads the team in career assists with 53. De Fijts decided to move Solskjaer up to the forward position because Solskjaer ended up playing most of the game in an attacking position anyway and even though was a midfielder, still is second on the scoring list behind Belagt with 21 goals.

The midfield remains anchored by oldtimer Arnold von der Rein, who at 38 years old is the oldest member of the team. To his left and right are first year players Sven Laursen and Jochim Mendel. De Fijts believes they can cover the entire midfield . Von der Rein is a work horse that is true, but it remains to be seen whether Laursen and Mendel can keep up with the pace of the game on the international level.

The defense, the strongest part of the Lightning during the Cup of Harmony, is held together by the experienced Tomas Kristiansand and Karl Mayha. The other two newbies, Hans Larsson and Mehmet Bayern showed their strength and desire to win during the Cup of Harmony.

So despite the team's rather lackluster performance at World Cup 15, the Lightning fans all over the world are looking forward to the new look on the field of the Svecians. The roster changes were embellished this year by the team's announcement that they will have a new look in the jerseys as well. In honor of the 300th anniversary of the reign of King Willem of Orange, the liberator of Svecia from the Vikings, the Lightning will be wearing jerseys, shorts, and socks that are bright orange and accented by black for their first kits. Their second kits will remain the usual yellow tops with blue shorts and socks.

AMISSVILLE -- After what the Bedistan Football Association has referred to as a "disappointing" performance in World Cup 15, which resulted in the Bedistan Lions being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Squornshelous, BFA president Javier McGuire has stated that there will be "drastic changes" in the makeup of the Lions squad for WC16. Among the rumors is yet another new manager and a starting lineup that consists of absolutely nobody from the previous Cup. McGuire has refused to comment on such "speculation", but a press release should be forthcoming in the next several days.

Jill Numbnuts here in Abbott as the Union gets ready to particpate in the World Cup once again. Head coach Jim Young has said that he is trying to go father and maybe win the whole thing. "I know that will be a hard task to acomplish. There are many good teams in the tournament. However I know that we do have the experience." Of course the team is not the only one who is optmistic. "We are proud of what they did and I hope that they go far" Alex Rich, a citizen of Diamond City said. There have been massive reservations for hotels in Diamond City, where the Union will play their home games. Also some tickets are almost sold out already. "We hope that we will not disappoint our fans" Young said. I hope that he is right. This is Jill Numbnuts for KNN, signing out.

WOODSTOCK (ASP) -- Coach Bryan Marshall looked out without the usual exasperation that Stars' training sessions usually bring him. This time, the team's training was crisp and sharp, which players attribute to the team's recent performance in the Baptism of Fire Cup.

"We just finished one cup tournament and we're gearing up for another," midfielder Darwin Russell said. "We also are beginning to assemble a "B" team to compete in the AOCAF tournament if it takes place during the World Cup. I think our problem in prior practice sessions was getting used to playing as a team. This time, we already have been playing as a team."

Marshall said some of the U-21 national team players would be named to the "B" national team that would compete in the AOCAF tournament. He also said Mark Tanner would be called up to back up goalkeeper Troy Perkins with the "A" team, dismissing concerns about inexperience behind Perkins.

"Mark already was the starter on the U-21 team so he's not totally green," Marshall said. "Besides that, we want Kerry to be sharp and playing behind Troy is not a way to get that done."

Marshall said that striker Kenny Cooper and midfielder Valentin Kienzl would also be called up to the "B" national team if necessary.

"They played best during the U-21 tournament and we want to see what they can do against top-rate competition."
